We decided to stop in Olympia on the way back from Long Beach and try a new sushi spot. I'm so glad we did. 100% a 10/10!! It was fabulous. The service was exceptional. The Uni and Asahi Tower stole the show. They were both incredible. The Albacore Special Roll was bland and just lackluster, I wouldn't order that one again. The hand rolls were delicious and super fresh. Next time we are in Olympia. We will definitely be stopping here. Asahi is a hidden gem! read more

Having visited in Japan, China, Thailand and Korea, we keep looking for the authentic flavor. Five years in Beijing gave us a taste of China. Tea, hot tea, is served in every single meal in China. Ordering a cup of Jasmine tea was only natural for us to do. It was delicious as it was pretty. My wife ordered a bento box with a selection of tempura veggies, gyozas, fish, chicken, and some sushi. It was plenty and delicious. I ordered tempura sushi and a California roll. Both were outstanding. Neither of us could finish what was served so we too the leftovers to go. I have no issue having lunch leftovers for dinner. The restaurant's ambience is quiet, contemporary, Japanese to a certain extent. The music that was playing was quiet jazz covers for familiar songs. Not too loud, not too distractive. The server was welcoming, very polite and very efficient. Not overbearing (my personal worst). She was attentive, showed up just on time, with a smile. INCREDIBLE FOOD! Incredible vibe! The service was so fast and friendly, it was an incredible experience all around. Trying a new spot can be nerve wracking but this was well worth it. We visited this place for the first time because we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary so with two grown children with us, we ordered largest plates, Udon, tempura, and lunch box for my daughter who doesn't do sushi. First of all, as a Korean, I could say that we know sushi very well. This place is far better than anywhere I've been to. Even exceeded Las Vegas in terms of best services, ambiance, and the food tastes exceptional. The freshness of the fish says it all. 3 stars is honestly for the fresh avocado carrying the entire order. The miso soup was flavorful but it was only broth and 1-3 thinly sliced scallion pieces per bowl. The veg gyoza and spring rolls had chunks in them that smelled, tasted, felt like meat and I could not eat it despite the staff promising it wasn't but could not tell me what it was... The rice on all rolls was undercooked and seemed not so fresh- though if it had been properly cooked and fresh it would have been a decent rice to filling/topping ratio which is hard to find. read more

This place was such a lovely surprise! We order the 24 piece sashimi, Asahi tower, and a few others. I think the asahi tower was my favorite! My boyfriend really enjoyed the sashimi, it was very filling and so so fresh. Mrs. Lee, the owner, was also present and it was such a pleasure to talk to her! Such a cute little eatery! Been here 2 or 3 times now and each time has been better than the last. The last time was a date night and the staff put us to the back so we were able to chat and enjoy the experience more. The waiter we had was so enjoyable. She was an older lady that just gave off a fun aunt kinda vibe and even ended up giving us a free sample of a sake after we picked our drinks and food. A lovely apple sake with such a light flavor to it. I'll need to order it next time. The food was alow on point. The fish is always fresh and the tempura is always hot. I always end up ordering to much but enjoy it all. I think I love the cute Peach tea the most though. My new favorite sushi place in the Olympia area! I loved everything about Asahi Sushi - the decor, ambiance, the outstanding service, and most of all, the high quality delicious sushi. Their menu is amazing - huge selection of sakes, wide ranging selection of all types of sushi, all the standard Japanese offerings in addition to sushi... even the tea was served with care and quality. Very great food and service. The food was fresh and fast. I was so impressed with how fast we got everything. The only thing that fell short is the portion sizes. Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing, but the portions are just smaller than we expected. We got two big rolls and an appetizer. We were told we would get 4 avocado bombs and only got 3 which we were like okay, whatever. Nice place but unsure if we will return. read more

Wowee, I was not expecting the food to be this good. We got the avocado bomb, this is a must! For some reason, good miso soup is hard to come by but the flavoring here was perfect. Not too strong or salty, and not watered down. The baby lobster roll with sweet mustard sauce was surprisingly delicious, and the crab Rangoon was not over fried. It was a nice soft crispy crunch. It was all so good my fiancé did not breath the entire sitting, he inhaled it all. I would take .5 off for how long it took to take our order, but they made up for it by bringing the food out super fast! read more

Amazing! New Years Eve dinner was simply delicious this is our new favorite sushi/teriyaki place. I dont eat sushi so I tried there bento box the portions were perfect. The veggie tempura was great, zucchini, squash, carrot, onion,& sweet potato, 2 really good gyoza there sweet and sour chicken is good perfect amount of batter on the chicken. It's the best sushi in the small town that is Oly. I really like the Asahi roll. The quality of seafood they use is good and the rolls tasted great! The sushi rice was a good balance as well. Went down a star because there was plastic on the bottom of one roll they probably didn't see to remove but that is a rookie mistake. They also didn't gage the correct time of pickup readiness and were over 20 minutes behind the ready time they stated. They didn't ask if we needed chopsticks or soy sauce and expected it to be in the To-go bag like most places but there was none to be found, good thing I had some at home. I ordered ahead of time and was told the food would be 20 min. I came at exactly 20 min and the sushi was cold already. I also asked for extra soy sauce and even verified with the lady up front that there was extra in the bag. When I opened the bag there was 2 very small packets of soy sauce. It is more authentic than the ramen you buy at the Asian grocer and take home to make yourself. There is something different about a bowl made by someone who knows what the bowl is supposed to be. The room was not what you might imagine when you think of ramen. It was somewhere between a teriyaki place and a sandwich shop. The building was full of businesses and the room belonged to the building. There was nothing wrong with that. A man does not need much from a room when he has a good bowl in front of him. The waitresses understand this. They come by often. They look at the table and see what is needed. Water. Another thing. Anything that is not quite right. They take care of it. That matters. It is a good bowl of ramen, and they take good care of you while you eat it.

Asahi Sushi is such a gem in Olympia and honestly gives me hope that there really is good sushi around here! I've been twice now: once on a date with my husband and another time for a family outing, and both experiences have been fantastic. The prices are fair. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it's definitely not outrageously expensive either, especially for the quality. We usually spend around $100 for two orders of takoyaki and three sushi rolls. I came for the sushi, but apparently I'm staying for the takoyaki and the fantastic service. Seriously, the takoyaki here might be the best I've ever had. They're served at just the right temperature, crispy on the outside, savory, and actually have a good amount of octopus in each ball. My husband agrees, which is why we always end up ordering TWO orders. We can't help ourselves. The sushi itself is delicious and really well balanced. I don't feel like the rolls are overloaded with rice, and every roll we've tried has had a good balance between the fish, sauces, and other ingredients. Nothing feels like it's drowning out everything else. Both times we've visited, the service has also been wonderful. The servers are attentive and friendly, and good service is one of the reasons I enjoy coming back. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, especially around the entrance where you're practically passing right by the chefs. But I actually like the lowkey, humble atmosphere. During the day, it's fairly dim inside with just a sliver of sunlight peeking through, and the neutral tones make it feel cozy without trying too hard to be fancy. My only gripe has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: PARKING. Downtown Olympia parking is such a pain in the neck. You might find yourself circling a few blocks looking for street parking, but Asahi is one of those places where I'll deal with it because the food and service are worth the trip. I've been to plenty of sushi places in California, so after moving to Washington a few months ago, I've been hoping to find a sushi spot here that could compare and that I would actually want to return to. Asahi is definitely that place. It's officially my go-to sushi spot in the area whenever I can afford to treat myself, because if I'm coming here, I'm budgeting enough to try and tip the servers well too. We're serious sushi lovers who've eaten at spots all over the country, so our standards are high. We stopped at Asahi in Olympia on our way to Olympic National Park -- honestly just looking for a quick meal. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the entire trip. The ambiance alone sets this place apart -- elegant purple decor, soft lighting, clean and upscale feel. Not what you expect from a highway stopover town. Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being pushy. Perfect dining pace. We ordered the miso soup to start -- rich, well-seasoned, exactly how it should be. The seaweed salad was fresh, light, and beautifully presented. Then came the rolls: the Baked Salmon Roll and the Olympian Roll. Both were outstanding. Gorgeous plating, fresh fish, bold flavors -- the kind of sushi that actually makes you stop mid-bite and appreciate it. All of that -- two rolls, seaweed salad, two misos, a Sapporo, and rice -- came out to under $55. For this quality, that's genuinely excellent value. If you're driving through Olympia heading to Olympic National Park, stop here. Don't skip it. Asahi is a hidden gem and we're already planning to return on our way back. read more

There is a menu at the cash register for quick ordering if you know what you want (when you walk in, it's on the left). The employee also directed us to a menu with pictures and descriptions of each item (when you walk in, it's on the right). The place definitely has Japanese vibes for the interior decor with its oaky/wooden furniture and warm lighting. Our ramen arrived shortly after we seated ourselves. We both ordered similar spicy ramen, which ended up tasting fairly good. My son really enjoyed his ramen since he liked the level of spiciness and taste of the broth (spicy enough to taste the flavors and feel the heat but not enough to hurt). He also liked that the ingredients were balanced (not an overabundance of just ramen noodles). I did enjoy my ramen as well and shared similar views.
