Wow! Best Sushi anywhere! Service was fantastic. We will be back many times. We made a reservation for my granddaughter's Birthday. 2 of our party couldn't make it last minute but the staff at Asahi didn't let that make a difference. They seated us at a lovely table set with a gorgeous floral arrangement and place settings. After we were settled the host brought menus, wished her a happy birthday and indicated to her the flowers were for her to take home for her special day. It was specifically arranged for her in a glass jar with a handle, by this lovely lady. So lovely and kind. My granddaughter had a specially difficult year, being a senior who did not get a graduation ceremony, no prom, no awards ceremony for her many honors, no senior trip, etc etc., due to Covid. Then they canceled in person dorm living at her college that she had been accepted into with highest honors, so she must do classes from home secluded in her room. She has been so depressed and this dinner and how special they made her feel was the brightest and happiest we've seen her in a long time. But let's talk more about the amazing food! Every dish served was perfectly cooked, hot and so delicious, with lovely presentation. The food orders were exactly right, they took time to explain what each was, and made sure the 11 year old brother was also paid special attention to get him all he needed too. Very reasonable cost as well, for all you get. We tried some new things, and had our classic fa as well. All were perfect with large portions. Each dish was brought out separately, a few were shared so they brought extra plates. Seriously the best sushi, bento, soup, tea, entrees, and many extras ever. I can't rave enough about how delicious it was. My granddaughter is half Hawaiian and grew up eating sushi, and similar dishes her whole life and she picked this restaurant- great choice. They allowed us to bring our own birthday cake and do candles and sing. At the end they brought a complimentary Macaron in a special paper holder on a plate just for her. They couldn't have known but that is her favorite dessert! We will be back many times, for the incredible food, the lovely atmosphere, but mostly for the attentive service which was exactly the right amount, asking if we needed more water, or other additional dishes- which we did order more because it was so good, not that we didn't get lots with each order, they give very generous portions and grandmother took home a to go box with leftovers. They never hovered but came back several times making sure we were doing great. They were also very safe with masks, cleanliness and social distancing from other patrons. By far the best, most authentic, Japanese food in Olympia. Quality ingredients, excellent flavors, tempura is done delicately with panko crumbs and is delivered to the table piping hot and not greasy. Servings are commensurate with the prices. My wife and I were just here 2 days ago with the kids. And here we are again 2 days later to celebrate National Sushi Day! The sushi here is solid. Compared to the places I have been and all the sushi I have eaten, It's not the best. But for the sushi places I have eaten at in the Olympic area it's definitely become our favorite. The rice is sweet and maybe a little much in some of the rolls but the fish is really good and the presentation is fantastic. Service is the best we have had in any restaurant in the area. From hello when we get in to being patient with all the questions my wife and I have to taking care of our requests for changes to menu items and all with a smile. Just great people running this place. My favorite to eat here is the Asahi Tower. It's a deconstructed sushi roll with all the favorites, crab meat, avocado, salmon, tuna, seameed salad on top of rice with 4 types of fish eggs. It's a really tasty treat. The poke roll is another solid choice as well. Tasty tuna a touch of spice and it's got a splace of seaweed as well. Philly #2 is pretty good too. And it's really consistent in the presentation and quality of the food. This place isnt extravagant and it's not an adventure in sushi dining. It's mostly standard sushi fare but the quality and flavor of the sushi is so good that I will have a hard time adventuring elsewhere knowing what I will get when I come to eat here. read more

Instantly our favorite sushi restaurant in the area. We have tried several with meh results. Asahi is wonderful all around, with a warm and genuine welcome from the staff. The kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and good about forking over hard earned dollars. Another cool feature is they had a female sushi chef when we visited, something I can't remember at any other sushi restaurant I've been to so far. The menu is extensive with plenty of options for timid eaters, to the daring as well. I was stoked to see three very solid choices for kids meals, as those are hard to come by in many Asian restaurants we have visited. Affordable and our son who is picky cleared the plate. Edamame was warm and the right amount of salt, gyoza was light and crisp with perfect seasoning, miso soup was balanced and had wonderful umami, however no tofu in mine. Not sure if it was bad luck or how they serve it, but the only thing I would change is to have tofu in my miso soup. We stuck with more basic rolls and a handroll to really test the fish and chef, and all were absolutely perfect. The salmon roll was by far our favorite (shocking in the PNW, I know), but all were well balanced with no odd flavors. The only critique I have was there was a bit too much cucumber in the yellowtail roll, but not enough to alter my opinion of this place. On our second visit we asked for no cucumber and it elevated the roll to the next level. Plenty of seating, good lighting, and a casual environment for family dining. My, mom, grandma, and I stopped here a couple hours before closing while on our way back from Portland and we are so happy that we did! Parking was a bit difficult to find and it takes a short trek to the bathroom, but the food and experience were so worth it! We ordered the sashimi & nigiri special with the kiss of fire roll and albacore special roll. Everything tasted delicious and fresh! Absolute chef's kiss! My favorite was the albacore special roll and salmon sashimi. The fish just melt in your mouth yum~ The owner was directly serving and carried a wonderful conversation with us. One of the chef gave us an extra, specially made ceviche dish on the house which my mom and grandma also enjoyed devouring (I have a shellfish allergy). The owner told us that they are creating a new menu which should be updated by now and I am excited to take my next trip to Olympia specifically to stop by! 5 stars all around. Had a wonderful late lunch here with my boyfriend. Upon walking in, we were greeted and seated right away by a super nice waitress. Before ordering I got a caffe mocha bubble tea. It was pretty yummy. For our meal, I got a cucumber roll, he got the spicy teriyaki, and we split a dragon roll. Everything was delicious. Fresh and beautifully plated. Our waitress went on break, and a man took over. He was also very nice. When it came time to pay we were given two free mochi ice creams, loved that. We went on Friday right at 5 pm. Location is right next to Starbucks. We were greeted and sit on the booth right next to window. First impress was very quite and spacious. I ordered California roll and spicy tuna roll and 8 pieces of nigiri. Presentation of the food was great especially Cali roll and tuna roll. They were both tasted great. I have noticed sushi rice was little too thick proportion to slice of sushi. Also noted that they used use medium grade rice which should using which is plus. Other thing I like about when you order combo sushi, server gave me a choice of what type of nigiri sushi I like to have! Wow, I don't know everywhere would give you a choice other than set menu whatever sushi chief want to include in the menu. On our way home from Ocean Shores to Seattle on a Sunday evening we decided to stop in Olympia for dinner. Not knowing the area we looked through reviews on Yelp and came across Asahi Sushi. What a hidden gem! We frequent sushi restaurant regularly and Immediately upon entering Asahi Sushi we felt comfortable, into a world unto itself, a beautifully appointed establishment. The hostess greeted us warmly and led us past several sushi chefs creating sushi and sashimi dishes from gorgeous cuts of fish. Our hostess turned out to be our server, and later we learned she was also the owner, Kyung. We began with green tea, miso soup, and seaweed salad. The tea was amazing. We then ordered a sashimi platter and an extra order of albacore nigiri, along with a California roll. Every dish arrived like a work of art with beautiful, uniform, cuts of fish. These sushi chefs are true Sensei's! It was so good we ordered uni with raw quail eggs, a spider roll, and ikura sushi. As the uni arrived, Mira, another server came to our table and offered us cups of three different saki's. All were spectacular. Mira was extremely kind and gracious, and her gesture made us feel truly special. What a wonderful finish to a very fun day. Stopped in for dinner on Saturday. I had been to the previous teriyaki place a couple times and had never been impressed. But the grand reopening or the new management is great! We ordered a fried app and a variety of sushi. The sushi was fresh and tasty while the fried app was hot and perfectly crispy. The meal came with miso soup and edamame, both super tasty. We even got two pieces of mochi with our check. Very generous. The sweet woman who was working the front and serving was the nicest server I have ever had. She also just seemed happy which brought up our mood. This place is in walking distance from my office and I have a feeling the lunch special might get me this summer.
