Disappointed Service was good So many good ratings and sadly I did not enjoy my food at all. I purchased the yakisoba and the golden California roll. Did not enjoy either. The flavor profile of the yakisoba is not good. There is even a smell to the food that is off-putting. The roll, it wasn't crunchy. It mainly had one overwhelming flavor that took away from all of the other flavors in the roll. Their online presence is very frustrating when trying to find an accurate menu. In house they have a QR code that you can take with you. That is nice. Unfortunately I am throwing out $40 of food/tip as it is not edible imho. I love sushi but I'm not inclined to return. read more

I have eaten almost every item on Kamakura's menu over the course of multiple years and it is me and my wife's favorite sushi restaurant. I have found very few rolls that I didn't enjoy. A friend of mine went through multiple countries in Asia, including Japan and Tokyo, and told me the sushi at Kamakura was actually BETTER than any he had on his trip through Asia. The staff is absolutely amazing every time I've been there. They are kind, quick, and attentive. I have seen this small restaurant transform through remodeling from a cute little place to enjoy sushi to a true atmosphere where you feel like you're getting a luxury dining experience. To give some tips on my favorite rolls, the Las Vegas roll (while it has gotten a bit smaller since years ago) is such a unique and delicious roll ESPECIALLY if you like a creamy warm roll. For those who do not like cream cheese or avocado on their rolls, I HAVE to recommend one of the latest additions to their menu, the Unagi Lover. This roll has such a great combination of flavors, and the unagi on top is excellent. read more

My friend and I decided to stop in here for lunch and I will absolutely be coming back again! It's a bit of a hidden away restaurant and was full of people even in the middle of the week. I am particular about my sushi and Kamakura left me impressed with a very happy belly! We ordered gyozas, chicken katsu, avocado rolls, spicy rolls and a plate of nigiri combo. Words can't even begin to describe how impressed I was with the entire experience. From the perfectly executed food (I'd argue the best sushi you can find anywhere close by) to the warm, inviting and close eating environment that made for a very nice lunch. It was clean, the waitress was wonderful and I just can't rave enough about the perfectly fresh and tasty food. This was a 10/10 experience for me and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some tasty Japanese cuisine. read more

Nice little place that my friends chose to have a girls' lunch at. It was a dreary day and we were all freezing and I feel like the restaurant itself wasn't heated up at all because I ended up getting hot tea and ramen, just to get some warmth in me. The rolls we all got looked well presented, and at least mine was tasty. They're nothing super special, but if you're in the area, it's a nice place to grab some food in. read more

I ordered miso soup, avocado bombs, dragon roll, and yummy yummy roll. The avocado bombs were...interesting. A lot of textures and flavors, but overwhelmed by the spicy mayo. Kamakura had been one of our go-to spots for lunch and dinner! The ambience is relaxing and moody, and the staff is always friendly. The food is consistently delicious, and the fish quality is excellent. We usually go for nigiri and sashimi-especially the unagi and ika (squid)-and our favorite rolls are the Spider Roll and Caterpillar Roll. The Avocado Bombs are a must order appetizer too. Really loved the extensive vegetarian and vegan options; I feel like it's hard to come by this extensive of a menu and you can get classics all the way to fancy rolls - what a treat! I liked the vegan crab but would probably get the spicy next time for more flavor. Also tried the vegan gyoza, which I think is more bread than traditional gyoza, so I probably wouldn't reorder! Great option for a crowd needing fish / veg and vegan, and the roll size is great! I feel like one roll was a great serving size for me and just ordered a starter to try something else. read more

My family is sitting here happily eating across from me, and I'm just wondering what obsession with Krab with a K is in this place. It's in almost everything. It's even in my Godzilla roll that I ordered because *it didn't advertise that it had the dreaded krab in it* - and yet it DOES have krab in it and I'm not eating it because ew. And yet the prices on rolls are the same as comparable rolls in Seattle that are made without krab to bulk them out? It's confusing. read more

We found the food that was served was not what we expected from reading the menu, e.g., menu advertised "shrimp and scallions". Does one shrimp (bait sized) and one scallion qualify? ate here with Nathan because we both live in Lacey and this is perhaps the best Asian food spot in this surburb neighborhood omg got a couple of sushi rolls and curry that was really yummy. was impressed for the quality of food and the curry was very filling. not that much in price easier. probably the best thing that we got from the menu, so I highly recommend that you order this one for the table. the sushi rolls were good, especially the one with the tempura flakes. sushi did not easily fall apart! however, not much wasabi and ginger provided with each roll. smallest amount of wasabi and ginger that I ever seen served with a roll ... I liked tha the kitchen was open so you could give the chefs. absolutely killing it with their job, thank you!!! Service was good, too. I wish that there was a better orientation of the table because the soy sauce is a bit camouflaged to the shelf with the little baby saucers. staff could do better attention to ensure that cups were filled, especially if they know that they are serving a spicier dish to the table, but I am just not-picking. the staff was very kindhearted and would cater to your requests...you just have to take initiative to ask super duper dim place and there are stairs that lead up to the platform where you will eat, so watch your step. I wish that there was more lighting there so you could easily see where you are going, but at least staff is there to help guide you. parking is tight at the front of the restaurant, but note that there is more parking at the rear! read more

Second time here, but first review. We came here a few years ago and it was great. We never thought we'd be here again, but when we were, we had to come back. It was still great. We gorged on vegetarian sushi. The entire meat based menu is duplicated in vegetarian or vegan form and it's amazing that the restaurant does it to such detail. Service and food were outstanding. The area had a nice ambiance, and the service was great. However, the food was unfortunately underwhelming. It didn't feel very authentic compared to other Japanese restaurants we've tried, and the portions didn't feel worth the price. We came in because of the high reviews and to celebrate our anniversary, but we left a bit disappointed. My family and I weren't fully satisfied and ended up getting more food elsewhere afterward. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend it, but it was still worth trying. There are better Japanese restaurants out there. read more

Upon first arrival, it feels as if you're transported outside of the USA. The accessibility to enter this establishment is subpar with growth of dinning area coming soon! Walking in you're immediately greeted and adequately seated according to your party size. Their menus are plentiful and accommodate any sushi lovers palate. Their fish selections are fresh and taste as beautifully as they appear. As soon as we saw they offered our favorite Japanese Beer, ORION, we knew we had to order it. This beer is not commonly offered. All our dishes were delicious and fresh on taste! Came here because I keep driving past it and was curious about the 4.5 star Yelp rating. Came around 7. Were quickly greeted and seated. Servers were friendly, but a little bothersome at first. Almost like we were being rushed to order. I am not a big fan of restaurants that use a QR code menu, what if someone doesn't have a phone, or isn't good with one, or a low/dead battery? This is a pretty small place inside, with a strange set up as far as the folding table that holds their supplies. There is a patio outback, but it wasn't being used on this particular day. I asked for a straw for my water but never received one. We opted for a few rolls, avocado bomb, chicken yakisoba, and hot tea. All of the food came out in what seemed to be less than 5 minutes. Kind of weirded me out. The chicken in the yakisoba seemed to have been precooked, and didn't taste fresh. The avocado bomb was alright, would be nice if you could get a half order since the full order is supposed two whole avocados. One of the rolls contained some really bitter cucumber which had to removed to make the roll palatable. The tea pot leaked tea with every pour. The window sills and the plastic holder for the QR code could use a good cleaning. Overall, I was not impressed and am a little baffled as to how this place has such a high rating. There are many restaurants in the area serving similar fare. I don't think I would return. read more

My friend and I went here for the first time tonight. It isn't not a huge place but the employees were very friendly and very attentive. Always filling waters, always checking on us to make sure everything was ok. The food came out quick and the rolls were huge! We got the Geisha Roll, Cry Baby Roll and The Boss Roll. Food is actually not bad, but not kid's friendly. I don't mind to come back myself instead of bringing kids with. Also please be aware, when 6 and plus people dining in, they will add 20% tips, which I understand, but still feel little uncomfortable when we are 2 mothers with 4 small kids. However, they've told us before dinning, it was our choice to stay or not. Otherwise, dish wares are pretty, the server is polite and nice, and the parking is a plus! read more

Don't fret they take care of sushi connoisseurs too! We recommend all the vegan sushi along with a crisp Asahi. (I had their okonomiyaki which I cannot recommend and suggest that if you have had Hiroshima-style or Kyoto-style okonomiyaki, you will not like it. However if you are a standard American diet lover, you will probably love it and I'm talking about their vegan okonomiyaki. The rolls are tasty, but the options on their menu were things we've seen before. The miso soup was very good too. The one thing I found disappointing was the amount of shrimp tempura given being that it was $10 and we were served 5 small pieces of shrimp. I don't think it was worth ordering. Service was good and the staff members were friendly. Sitting inside the restaurant reminds me of a spa. There is relaxing music playing and a little water fountain inside. They don't take reservations for more than 5 but when you show up, they'll put you on a list and you'll need to wait ... in your car, they have no waiting area. Ambience is less to be desired. It's plain and boring. Just a place to eat, not to enjoy it. Luckily, we had a table in the end corner and not in the middle. Noisy. Visited yesterday and they have a nice patio which would have been better if dogs were allowed, but it's fine. You use a QR code to pull up the menu and there aren't vast amounts of choices, but everything we got was solid. I got the crunch roll and Sis got the rainbow roll and both were good. Remember to ask for extra unagi sauce. The edamame bowl was plenty for us three ladies and the shrimp was a nice appetizer.
