We had such a wonderful first experience at Koibito! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere immediately made us feel comfortable. Fun pop music played in the background, the lighting was perfect, and the whole vibe was relaxed and welcoming. We were seated right away and greeted with bowls of complimentary miso soup that was genuinely delicious. My fiancé ordered the fatty tuna hand roll and tuna maki roll, while I went with the chicken katsu. Everything arrived together and surprisingly quickly. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious--especially impressive given how reasonably priced it all was. We left completely satisfied and are already planning our next visit. Very poor service. Visited today for kake udon and other dishes. The kake udon was extremely subpar and funky. When reflected to our server. she rejected our complaints and stated that there's nothing wrong with thier item instead of asking what was wrong with our experience. We then later found a piece of hair in the sushi roll as well. When reflected to the same server. She rejected our complaints again and stated that it was absolutely impossible to have such strand of hair in sushi. Manager did come out at the end to take the kake udon off the menu. However the attitude of the server was not acceptable as she cannot accept criticism or flaw in food. For future customer references, just eat your food and don't complaints if it taste bad. Just to start off: I have been here multiple times over the years, every time that I come and visit Olympia, I would voice that I'd like to come and visit this restaurant. That being said, I obviously used to really love this spot. But today, I ordered Kake Udon and the broth was way too sweet and not to my liking. My friend also found a piece of hair inside his sushi roll when he pulled it out, it was short, black and curly. We voiced that I did not like my udon and my server proceeded to stare me down and tell me "that is our recipe, it is made this way, why are you complaining?" I said I did not like the taste, and she said "we like it this way" and then we told her about the hair inside the sushi roll, she stared at us and then rejected that it was impossible for us to find a curly black hair inside our roll since none of the sushi chefs have curly black hair. It's just upsetting that they are arguing and not even admitting to the fault. We also explained that the goal was just to let them know so they can be more aware of the hygiene problem, we were overall happy with the rest of our food. I can't speak to sitdown service but if it's anything like takeout, it's worth it. I've been here a few times now. Each time the staff are great and the food is on point. I usually go in randomly and grab food on my way home so I end up sitting and waiting. It honestly makes me want to come back for a sitdown dinner because the atmosphere is very nice. Lots of wood and a traditional but homely feel. Very warm and welcoming. As for the food. It's always fresh and crisp. No soggy sitting around being refried. It's obviously freshly made and worth a bit of wait. (It's never lot for take out. Conpleatly understandable for fresh food). I usually end up with Chicken katsu, tempura, udon, and teriyaki. Staples that are always fresh and crispy. The teriyaki isnt overly sause-y. The Udon is flavorful and has lots of veggies. The katsu and tempura is crisp and juicy. My experience is limited to one chicken/beef combo bento box. It was enough food for two moderately hungry adults, $27. The iceberg salad was very disappointing as it was dripping with cold water, and the dressing was almost flavorless. The box came with six small California rolls (the other option was spicy tuna roll) and a generous helping of shaved pickled ginger, that didn't have the sulfur taste that pickled ginger sometimes has. The tempura was impressively good: not greasy, and I liked that the vegetable slices were larger than usual-- giving more vegetable flavor. The grilled chicken would have been delicious-- not dried out, and had a good smokey flavor, but WAY too much sweet teriyaki sauce poured on top. Next time, I'll order it with the sauce on the side.. I was staying with the little sister in Olympia and suggested sushi takeout for din. She insisted we order from their tried and true restaurant only a dangerous few blocks from their place. The order was not only ready when I arrived, it was also correct with gluten free items separated from those that were gluten full. They even included packets of gf soy sauce which was a first for me! The dining area is small but cute with beautiful decorations and a low lit relaxing environment. Back at the sister's patio we devoured our avocado, spicy tuna, and rainbow rolls. The sister's boyfriend loved his nooodles and there was nothing left of our meal for her pups to scavenge. All in all it was an easy and enjoyable dining experience. Gluten free ordering was no problem and the sushi was fresh and flavorful. I still like the food from here, it has seemed a little less finessed than before, but as someone who has been a patron over the last sixteen or so years, it feels like the original owners and chefs have changed. We live two hours away, so we generally don't do sit down service. When we did the service was great. It's been some odd years since we had a sit down meal. Ambiance is the same as how it always has been, small joint, comfy if you're not pretentious. I miss the old crew, that we used to bring Dungeness crab to, and they would add an extra roll or two with our two/three hundred dollar order, and actually recognize us when we would come/call in with an order three months later. I have to say though, a lot of people keep saying the "Fish tastes like it was frozen".... Most sushi fish IS flash frozen. This kills the parasites that might be present, and makes it viable for transport. read more

After looking in the area for a Japanese restaurant to get my lunch at I picked Koibito because of the reviews and hoped for the best. I got my order to go and got the seaweed and cucumber salad and a veggie roll. When I called in and asked for a vegetarian option they said that's the only roll they had. The staff were friendly and greeted me when I entered and my food was ready. The inside looked neat and there was a lot of seating. As I was leaving I noticed a lot of people coming in for lunch - seems to be a popular place. I was so excited to sit down and eat and as I opened my boxes I was left extremely disappointed. The seaweed and cucumber salad was bland and I had a few bites and couldn't eat it anymore - it did not taste good at all. The "veggie roll" was nothing more than a kimbap (which is a Korean dish). There was only like six pieces and not worth the price. You can get made to eat kimbap at H-Mart for like half the price. This is not how a Japanese roll is supposed to look like - it felt like false advertisement. With the lack of taste and vegetarian options I will not be going back to this place ever again. read more

The sushi selection was plentiful and had many options for rolls. I ordered a Tempura shrimp roll with salmon row outside and nice sized tempura prawn stuffed inside. Also ordered chicken teriyaki which came with rice and salad. I was surprised by large quantity of chicken served, so much I didn't finish. My meal could have feed two people so make sure your hungry. Other menu items were UDON Noodle soup, beef teriyaki, katsu and Benton Box's. Many choices for the Asian lovers to feast on. The food is usually ok, sometimes delicious. The service is not good. They pressure us to pay a tip. Today when we ordered takeout, everything in our order was wrong. It was obvious that the person taking our order was not listening to what we wanted. We also wanted to pay part with cash and put the rest on our card. Again she wasn't listening. She presented the card machine and we assumed that she would have taken off the cash part. I told her we had $45 dollars cash, but she charged the whole thing on our card. Great customer service and upon arrival, we ordered and they brought miso soup and bowel of edamame as a complimentary starter. I thought, wow free stuff? Most sushi Restutant will charge you extra if it is not included in the food you order. I ordered roll and sushi combo meal. Rolls were great and hey, sushi cut on nigiri was not perfect but the thickness of sushi to rice. It was generous and tasty. Sushi house may have more perfect cut of Nigri sushi but too many times of chewing fish scale, which gross me out and I find this place very friendly and decent food. Their bathroom was clean as well. Other than, I thought it was odd that they put floor gel Matt on the booth seat as a cushion. Overall, friendly and good quality of rolls and sushi. Went there to have a birthday dinner for my daughter and her husband and the three grandchildren, very disappointed. Service was extremely slow , waitress thought it was more important to stay in the kitchen instead of checking on our needs. Sushi came out first for three people but the food for me and my two grand children showed up later cold and was completely not worth eating. Place was not clean, was more like eating in a soup kitchen. And from the outside of the building you could see showed no pride of their business.
