This place has really gone down hill. Is it under new ownership? Last time we ordered bento box they didn't include salad. This time we order sushi for two. Don't do it. Should have asked what was in it. There was one box of nice sashimi but the other box had disgusting cream cheese glop sushi. Inedible. $43 down the drain. Don't know who they think would like to eat this but it is not sushi lovers. And certainly not us. Two thumbs down. Ambiance is nice inside but really need to know what you are ordering first. read more

Grew up in the area and was back visiting family. I was having a real sushi craving so we went here. Wasn't sure what to expect since I live in the city and can find great sushi everywhere and this didn't exactly feel like 'sushi country.' It was great! I had 3 rolls. All were nicely prepared and fresh. I had a tuna avocado roll, rainbow roll and a 'my best friend's roll.' They happily brought us more pickled ginger and wasabi. I had a 16 year old hungry teenage nephew with me--- he devoured a strip steak habachi lunch with noodles and our full order of pork fried rice (which I suggested would mean we'd have some to take home for dinner--yeah right) was also devoured by him. I tasted both and they were also very good. We got some fried dumplings as a shared (ha!) starter-- very fresh and crispy. His came with a salad and clear soup. I enjoyed the salad and he enjoyed the soup. He topped off the feast with a couple strawberry mochi that looked quite tasty. The restaurant was clean and service was good. It was a little pricey esp for lunch since they didn't have any 'pick your own' sushi roll combo offerings. And the rice was $15. It was a good pile but that was a little expensive. They are currently adding a food price 'surcharge' given generally increased food prices. I'm not sure if it's a flat fee or a percentage but it added about 5% to my bill. I missed the sign on my way in so when I asked about it I asked if it was a gratuity. The waitress said yes but I think she didn't understand. I feel a little badly since I only tipped about 10% because I thought part of the tip was factored in. Maybe they are doing this surcharge to avoid re-printing the menus?? Weird. But otherwise enjoyable. And their habachi room looked great. It wasn't open at lunch time but we saw it on the way to the (very clean) bathrooms. read more

Place is clean. Bathrooms are clean. Food is great. Typical hibachi experience, nothing extra special. Prices are fair. Sushi is great. Service is ok, sometimes they are under staffed. Smaller more intimate environment compared to loud wide open Mirakoya. read more

This is the only sushi restaurant I know of in the Dallas, PA area so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Lunch. It's a little pricier than other places in the valley but it was still very reasonable. The white tuna was very creamy and delicious. The salmon was pretty good but the yellowfin was out of this world. I could have eaten just that. The fish on the sushi was fresh and had great flavor. Definitely will go back when I'm in the area. read more

I went with my friends and family and it was 4 people and we ordered 1 plate each and it was 255 doll for 4 people and also when I went this was about a week ago and my daughter ate 1 mini mint and she got food poisoning hours later these were the mints in the picture.I am so disappointed this service was horrible I'm not coming here again read more

On the fence about this place. I ordered take out for lunch one day and got the spring rolls, a spicy salmon roll, and My Best Friend's roll. Positives: The fish seemed of good quality and the specialty roll was loaded. Cons: These 3 items (at lunch nonetheless) cost $30... yowza. The eel was less than great. I've noticed some sushi places do not get the best eel (odd color/texture and fishy tasting), and unfortunately this place has joined that list. May or may not go back. read more

Oh man, I feel super guilty writing a negative review but I know when you're in a mood for good yummy food and you don't get it it super sucks. This place is no Katana-- I know they're closed and won't open ever again but there is no comparison. Asaki doesn't get much credit. Most people I mention it to doubt it's quality because of its small plaza location. However, they have great sushi and hibachi! The plus side is that you can usually walk right in a sit down with no wait even for hibachi unless you are there for Friday/Saturday night dinner. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The sushi and hibachi are worth 5 stars - always delicious, fresh, and enjoyable. Just LOVE the food. The service on the other hand... The dining-in experience at Asaki is 1-2 stars MAX. It takes forever to get seated when the place looks entirely empty. There is never any music or heat on so you sit in cold silence awkwardly waiting to get the attention of the server. The past 3 times I've gone the server was friendly but you basically have to spear her down to get her to bring you water, utensils, etc. I prefer not to have to creepily hunt down a server for basic dining essentials, so this always bothers me and makes me regret just not ordering To-Go. I recommend that the management speaks with their servers and tries to coach them on their quickness and efficiency. And for the ambiance, why don't you put the heat on in the freezing cold winter so we don't have to eat with our coats on and maybe play some music so we can't notice when your staff is chatting around the bar as we wait to order drinks. read more

I can't speak for the hibachi, as I've never ordered it, but the sushi here is great. The inside is very nice, and the waitresses are good. However, the prices are a bit high and there are other restaurants in the area where you can get sushi for much cheaper. The same people who own Asian Cafe own this restaurant (or perhaps the owner of Asian Cafe's brother does) and they serve some of the same rolls. Again - try the rock and roll. It's great! Also, the green tea tastes like frosted mini wheats without the frosting (which I happen to kind of like). read more

Big fan of Japanese food here. However, this is the last place I would go for it. Since this restaurant has opened, I've gone 4 times, each time hoping that something has changed, but regrettably it has not. Besides having an alright atmosphere and the restaurant being clean. There is really nothing else positive to say about it. I'm not trying to be harsh in this review, but there is really nothing memorable about the food. I also think that most things on the menu are over priced for the quality of food that you're getting. Also in today's world most Japanese restaurants have a sushi special on Sunday or at least one day out of the week. It is to my knowledge that this establishment does not provide such special. In my opinion there are many other Japanese restaurants in the Valley area that you could have a better experience at. As far as the Dallas area, at least they tried. read more

In my opinion, Asaki is one of the better Japanese eateries in the area. Although it is primarily Japanese, the cuisine is a mix of various Asian regions, which is pretty commonplace in NEPA especially. My favorite lunch item is the Asaki Fried Rice or the Bento Boxes. read more

Considering that Asaki could be considered out of the way by Wyoming Valley standards (it's actually closer to Dallas than Luzerne), it is really a gem of a restaurant. I have had the hibachi, the sushi, and the Asian menu, and I all are good. I was especially impressed that the sushi, as I have not really found good stuff when I have been up in the Valley. I'm not a big fan of hibachi, but when I went there the day after my father's funeral, it was fun enough to take my mind off things for a bit. This place is definitely worth trying. read more

Asaki est omnis divisa in partes tres: a sushi bar, a separate hibachi room with "samurai chefs" and a quiet, nicely decorated restaurant with a full menu that includes the hibachi menu. We ordered seafood dishes from the 'Asian Menu" that were tasty, ample and well presented. For the advernturous, the big menu leaves lots of room to experiment. Definitiely worth a try. BTW, the location is the Shavertown shopping center - not Luzerne. read more

Decided to try this place out after being disappointed time and time again in the back mountain (except connor's as of late). Ordered a few drinks and edamame, which took forever to arrive. Edamame was cold and the salt tasted like they bought it next door at the food town market. Ordered the crispy tangy chicken and it was super bland - not tangy, not quite crispy, moreso chewy and un-appetizing. After telling our server that the chicken was bland, i watched what appeared to be a manager or owner verbally berate a different server. Ugh, on to the sushi. The seaweed nori had a slimy texture and our sushi was covered in "special sauce" which appeared to be a mayo of some sort. Overall, a weak experience. Bland food and absolutely 0 atmosphere. At least we got our grandkids some nice toys next door at a delightful toy shop. read more
