Staff was not the friendliest and there was a resident who needed some assistance by the smell. Coming to pick up family is a happy day but when the facility is not prepared it's disappointing. There's many good and outstanding employees there, but they're being silence by silence by the nursing supervisors that are lazy and incompetence. This facility is being operated under the guideline of race and discrimination, or one can look at as reverse discrimination. There's a heavy occupation of African employee supervisors in the management staff. So all the bad habits, incompetence, negligence performance commit by African staff is covered up by the African administrator, the African director of nursing. While the piss poor behavior of the African staff is condone and covered up by the African management staff, this same management and supervisor treat the African American staff like dirt as if they're beneath the African employees. it's the typical operation that's ran by nepotism, favoritism. Please, seek out other facilities before chosen this poorly ran facility, they're collecting checks from Medicare, social security, and Medicaid and giving nothing in return other than the lowest quality care one can imagine.

I would give Genesis LaPlata Center on Magnolia Drive five stars, I'd do ten if I could. My mom who…read morehad her leg amputated in September was admitted into Genesis LaPlata for exactly one week ago and I am amazed at the level of care and attention she has received and her progress in such a short time. The facility itself is not brand new but it is neat, very clean, welcoming and has no bad odor that some facilities have. The nursing staff is friendly and attentive, they engage mom in ways that are kind and respectful. She arrived late Wednesday evening the day before Thanksgiving and her designated nurse was named Richard and he was particularly detailed oriented as he accessed the situation on all levels. By Friday morning when we arrived before 10am Mom was bathed, dressed, sitting in a chair (for the first time in over a month), brushing her teeth and ready to go to therapy. We were able to accompany her to OT and PT and were astounded how the therapist interacted with her and kept her motivated. For the first time since her amputation and despite three other unproductive stays in rehab facilities this was the first time that we could see her turning around, making progress and to getting back to her old self. Our interaction with the front office staff has been wonderful. Renee Grubbs who I believe manages the Skilled Nursing Wing is a consummate professional, she made certain that our family knew everything that we needed to know about what to expect. Renee encouraged us to ask any questions and to notify them of anything good, bad or otherwise, she has kept us up to date and won our confidence by her genuine care. Camille Cutchember handled the main part of the admission and it was so smooth. Late today I received a call from one of the staff named David who went through an extensive list of questions in order to create a "custom program" of activities for Mom based on her abilities and preferences. I will tell you that it is clear that this facility is concerned with the welfare of its residents/patients and makes every effort to create a home environment. I can not say enough about this location and the people who run it. I would recommend this facility to anyone who loves their family and wants them taken care of with skill and compassion.

The current Administrator of the faculty Mr. Dickey is so arrogant and had the nerve to tell me that my dad that has dementia behavior is so bad that he don't want him in his facility. This explains why each visit my dad sits in his room in urine and nets flying all around his room. They don't bath him, he had no clean linen or water. They barely feed him so I started taking him food and cases of water. He is being ABUSED AND NEGLECTED.I've filed complaints with Charles County healthy and Quality that has an investigation in progress. As soon as you enter the building it stinks of urine. The staff specifically Ms Carroll is very rude to the family but I realize it stems from their leadership Mr . Dickey. My dad is in a room that the running shower doesn't work and his phone has not worked in his room for over a year. Items in his room are missing. He is an amputee and sits in a wheelchair that is soiled with poop and urine. Every time I visit I bring room fresheners and sanitizer wipes. I'm going to warn as many people as possible until this facility is investigated to the fullest and equipped with staff that cares for the elderly.

With…read morethe exception of one tech, everyone that I have encountered should not be in the health care industry or caring for the elderly. I am sickened by the attitudes and conduct of those working in Genesis of Waldorf (MD). Patients are left to sit in urine/feces for hours. In my case, our loved one took off the diaper and put on floor. I rang for assistance upon arrival and it was 26 minutes (yes, I timed it) before anyone came in. the food is terrible, no diabetic menus available and I wonder if there is an nutritionist on staff. Easter dinner consisted of cheese pizza and a salad, you are not offered alternate food choices, you are brought a tray and either eat it or starve. One day we went without breakfast and had to ask for lunch and dinner trays, that day the dinner consisted of a stale dried up chicken salad sandwich, that I would not have fed a dog. A new patient was brought into the room and staff failed to complete a COVID test, new patient was COVID positive, exposing my loved one resulting in being quarantined for 5 days. I have never seen such a badly managed facility. Run down and smells, absolutely atrocious care and conditions. Please do not consider this facility for anyone you love - you will regret it from the very first moment you walk in. Parking is also a nightmare, if you are handicapped to not expect parking close to building entrance, the two (2) designated handicapped spaces are taken by vehicles driven by the staff working inside the facility.

My brothers travel cath bag was left on him for over 24 hrs after arrival. He emptied it himself all over the floor, The nurse cleaned it up with his bedding, left the cath still attached to his leg and him in the clothes which the urine was spilled all over. When I saw him that evening he was wearing the same cath bag, again overfilled and the attending nurse had no idea that he even had a catheter. When She came to empty the bag she looked all around the bed for the bag and exclaimed, "he dosn't have a cath." She had to be told it was still the one attached to his thigh by Tidal Health discharge nurse. Genisis is suppose to be documenting the amount of fluid being discharged and reporting it to the cardiologist. They are not doing this. This is clearly neglect and elderly abuse. There are to many patients to caregivers in this facility. The facility is filthy. The State of Maryland should investigate and shut this place down before more people die/

I am astonished by how poorly run this rehab facility is. I would think if you are an employee…read morehere, you would be competent at your job. However, this is clearly not the case. My grandmother unfortunately ended up in this rehab center during COVID after she had a fall and broke her pelvic bone and wrist. Here are specific issues we experienced. Based on the reviews, I see these things are unfortunately common: 1. Incompetence with providing correct medication to patients: my grandmother was either not given the correct medication or dosage on several occasions while at Genesis. Thankfully, my grandmother is still mentally sharp, and called them out when they either tried giving her medication for things such as heart palpitations (which she doesn't have). They also did not give her the medication her doctor prescribed, even though we confirmed the medications/dosages several times with Dr. Nancy Benjamin Jean-Marie (who I will comment on below regarding my thoughts on her professionalism and capability as an MD). I find it hard to believe that employees at this facility cannot accurately read and comprehend a patient chart, so instead I chalk this up to laziness, incompetence, and lack of sympathy for patients. I am currently pursuing action against these individuals for negligence and putting a patient's health/life at serious risk. There internal compliance department has already been informed of these issues. 2. Communication skills: as COVID has changed the protocol for how families can see their loved ones in facilities such as this one, we relied heavily on communication, either with my grandmother or the nurses/doctors. When calling the nurses station to question the allegations my grandmother had mentioned (wrong medication, wrong dosage, etc.), there was a major lack of empathy along. The nurses at station 5 were always in a hurry to get us off the phone, and sometimes even hung up on us mid conversation. Again, I have several of these conversations noted, and in none of them were we being rude or asking too much of them. We simply wanted to ensure our grandmothers safety and health. However, they were always rude and did not provide information or call us back when requested to do so. Moreover, in conjunction with the above, when we called to confirm that we could bring our grandmother's medication to the facility, I was told that this wouldn't be a problem and we can drop it off. After dropping off the medication with a receptionist (name withheld due to ongoing action being taken), we were assured that the nurses were waiting on this medication and she will receive it. I would love an explanation on how they then misplaced/lost the medication if it was expected? Either there was malicious intent, which I hope there was not, or there is an overall gross incompetence at Genesis. 3. Misplacing/losing items: I have seen past reviews regarding this matter. Clearly, the owner of this facility nor the compliance department is taking action on this, as it continues to happen (and I'm sure will be brought up in future reviews - please take note). Simple things like medication, magazines, and clothing belonging to my grandmother were been 'misplaced' and never found. 4. Food: see other reviews. Also, please refer to this 2019 inspection report: https://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/InspectionReportDetail.html?ID=215067&SURVEYDATE=10/16/2019&INSPTYPE=STD. You will see poor food quality and lack of licensed individuals to ensure a patient's dietary needs are met were noted in this report. And unfortunately this is still true as of September 2020. 5. COVID specific: please refer to this link to see COVID cases among the residents and staff at this facility: https://projects.propublica.org/nursing-homes/homes/h-215067. In short, as of September 2020, they have had 141 confirmed COVID cases and 19 deaths. 6. Dr. Nancy Benjamin Jean-Marie: see review here: https://doctor.webmd.com/doctor/nancy-benjamin-jean-marie-cd7c9c8b-9206-4506-b36c-6cb322676ad3-overview Overall, depending on the state of your loved one, I would recommend trying to get them into HealthSouth (Encompass Health). Encompass is more for acute rehab, but I have heard phenomenal things about this facility through nurses who work/worked at Peninsula. I would avoid Genesis if you can.

Maybe a hotel? Turns out, this event was hosted on the rooftop balcony party room of a...wait for it... senior living community. Huh??? This is not your average senior living community with the old carpet, weird smells, poor lighting and 1970s library furniture. No, no, no. This place is super upscale. Could easily be a new apartment building in some hipster neighborhood. Apparently they opened four months ago and they are in a marketing partnership with the Alexandria Chamber to help promote their facilities to seniors 62 and up. They have three restaurants, a game room, a movie theater, pools tables, wrap around panoramic city-view balcony, and a bunch of other stuff that would make anybody not be too upset to live here - regardless of age. The food was provided by the in-house chef, who made an appearance on season 2 of Pitmasters. He prepared some lobster rolls, quesadillas, and three signature drinks for all of us mixer guests. I went back several times for refills + more food, lol. They had a full bar too. Not that I plan to hang out here, but I wasn't mad at the networking, the views, or the food.
