After the gate is closed if you need to be let out, you have to call the police. But there's so much to do here! Not just the swimming area! There's a hiking trail, playground and walking trails. Beautiful views and plenty of space to social distance yourself. The trails are available for no fee as far as I could tell, but the swimming area near WhoaZone is $5. They do not take cash, only debit/credit card. The swimming area has a playground and picnic areas. I think there's a spot to cast your kayaks off over there too, but I stayed near the beach and didn't explore anything else. I saw vehicles with kayaks going over on the other side. If you have water shoes, I'd say bring them and a beach umbrella as there's no shade. The sand isn't too uncomfortable to lie in, there's just cigarette butts here and there. But I definitely recommend visiting for the day or even camping if you're into it!

Today while I was at the park there was a vibrancy that was contagious. It brought the Chicago song, Saturday In The Park to mind, but I am still looking for the man selling Ice Cream! He is probably here, I just have not found him yet! Of course I have not made to the Food Truck section yet, and THAT is probably where he is at... So far I have seen people playing life-size Chess, kids playing in a dancing fountain, venders selling goods, authors selling books, people playing ping pong, and "a man playing guitar singing for us all!"

I will say the playground's pretty chaotic at times. Bunch of brats unsupervised being annoying. Saw this kid helping her little sister up one of the climbing net structures with a slide midway up and the kid was telling another kid to move so her little sister can get by. Now I get it if the other kid was just parked there not moving but the kid was moving but maybe not at the pace the brat wanted. To me, seems like a you problem and someone didn't tell her the world didn't revolve around her and her little sister. Was at another part of the playground and noticed a mom suddenly started yelling obscenities because she lost her son. She was just sitting at a bench I guess closer to her other 2 kiddos. Um newsflash. If you can't handle 3 kids, your poor choices don't need to infect other people trying to enjoy their time there. She eventually found her son but yet another story of someone who thinks the world revolves around themselves.

My last three trips were for this year's Memorial Day activities in support of Carry the Load. This park comes to a new life when there is a large event such as the very noble Carry the Load. Reverchon's beautiful greenery, powerful oaks and gentle rolling meadows are accented with the dark reddish sandstone walls and structures that soothes the soul. It is almost like a slice of Eden.To see this impressive park comfort those grieving as they remember the fallen military, police, fire and other first responders validates its role as a magnanimous friend. It fosters the catharsis and healing needed by many. The trip up and down from the Katy trail (which is high above) can be as challenging as you want to achieve and as beautiful as you want to view. I like the winding stone steps. There are observation terraces, conversation pits, and nature everywhere. It is shielded by quiet Dallas high rises just far enough away. The quiet serenity at night is in contrast to its vibrant life during the day. It retains the natural attraction whether it is a hand full of park goers to over ten thousand. It's great for the dogs, kids and oldtimers like me. There are some sport facilities for the team sport athletes. And of course there are the trails. There is a lack of immediate parking which I think helps retain its natural beauty . There are lots and streets to park if you decide not to go on foot. The adjoining recreation center has all you could want or need. The food and drink options are not too far away and some are world renown. If you need mental cleansing or some quiet reflection, Reverchon Park is the place to stroll.

This is a Dallas Park and Recreation Nature Trail, located within the Great Trinity Forest in…read moresoutheast Dallas. It's listed as 1.6-miles long, but it's unclear which parts of the trail equal that distance. The trail-head is located at the southern end of Bexar Street. Plan to go when you can also visit Bonton Farms, located where you'll park. Bonton Farms is open Mon-Fri 9:30-3:30 and Sat 9-noon. If you remember bug spray, the Texas Buckeye Trail provides an enjoyable walk through some dense growth approaching the banks of the Trinity River. There's a concrete path and a narrow, well-marked, trail that, not surprisingly, was muddy in parts. Near the river, the trail was closed (caution-taped off) because of all the recent rains, so we couldnt get to the Buckeye Grove. On the concrete path there is a barrier blocking the last part which leads to the river. (See Tim O.'s picture) When the river had one of its floods, the banks were washed away causing the sidewalk to collapse (see my photo). Potentially dangerous, yes, which is why it's blocked. Hopefully access to river views will be re-engineered and re-introduced in the near future. So let's have fun with this review on Sunset Bay! This muddy shallow bay borders Sol Dryefuss Point…read moreof White Rock Lake and shares some of the spectacular view, but that isn't what makes this bay so delightfully fun! This little vibrant bay is full of life! LOTS of feet run, walk, stroll, waddle, paddle, swim, clutch and just stand. Okay, some of the feet are paws including the dogs, cats, coyotes and bobcats. The wet feet include the many species of ducks, geese, and frogs! There are some serious raptor feet with the many hawks, owls, falcons, kestrels and we can't forget Nick and Nora's Eagle claws! Way too many bird feet to count! But let's get back to the geese (or as I incorrectly like to say, gooses). There are Chinese Whites, Chinese Browns, Canadas, Grays and sometimes a Snow or 3! Plus more quaking ducks than I care to count... Under the water are a lot of footless finny fish. There are some big catfish in this bay that like to follow the swimming fowls. We won't disgust ourselves and talk about what the catfish are eating that these birds deposit in the water... I will say these are some very fat catfish! In the evening, the frogs will croak you into submission! The bulls, tree and a toad or two. The signs say do not feed the birds and ducks and geese (gooses :) ), but I like to pass down memories I had as a kid. I let the granddaughters each toss crumpled up whole wheat bread pieces to the plumb water fowl (or very alert 5-10 pound yellow catfish). If you want to watch nature in action, keep an eye on the cormorants. When Nick and Nora, the Bald Eagles circle over head, the cormorants scatter in all directions! On wing and/or diving into the muddy water. KIDS are thrilled to come here, photographers line up, Coyotes camp out in the bushes waiting on a fresh winged meal. Oh, smile at the silent stalking bobcat who is quite silly thinking it can snatch a duck snack within a few feet of dogs, runners, and strollers!

We had the best pool day! We got there when they opened at noon- we were able to get 2 lounge…read morechairs. (You can also rent Cabanas- $50 for weekday and $200 on weekends). All the money goes to charity, since it's a Saturday it was $15 to enter (I posted a photo with the pricing for each day). And the bar and concessions were all reasonably priced ! I got a High Noon (Alcoholic seltzer) for $6 and I posted the prices for the food- overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended!!
