In…read moreprevious yearly cycles, the academy has been far more pleasant, yet as of recent times, I have found strong displeasure with the state of the institution with the price only going up yet seeing virtually no difference in anything save meaningless policies that have not a single net benefit of note. I find the principal of the upper school to be quite an insufferable individual, often refusing to deal with situations considered of an important scale especially on topics such as blatant bullying and exceptionally problematic behavioral issues, however many of the teachers are indeed wonderful people. On a positive note however, the school does have a wonderful multicultural aspect that allows for a child to gain a more whole and worldly perspective, though you must ask yourself before sending your child here: is being in a multicultural school worth their mental health? the answer should be no, so this school is in fact a great school, BUT only up until the high school, where I would consider sending my child elsewhere.

A certain snotty school pretty much passed on us because of my child's needs and I was forced to accept that we might need a "special" school. Sad and nervous, I set up an appointment for a parent tour the next day. Whether we get in or not, I can honestly give them five stars for the work they are doing. Where we've never felt like we fit in, there was a school where we could. This school is K-8 and just off of Montrose at Chelsea. Their goal appears to be to give children the ability to learn and develop skills in a safe environment with the intention of getting the kids back mainstreamed. It was crystal clear immediately that these people have the best intentions and the knowledge to fulfill those intentions well. This place is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but it is clear where the tuition goes. The ratio of teachers to kids is incredibly low and the children and staff alike seem happy. Ah, I forgot what that looked like. Best of all, the school was filled with kids just like mine. He was very relieved to finally be in the class and not stick out like a sore thumb. I don't know whether we'll be here in the fall, but I would highly recommend Joy to any parent whose child's needs aren't being met in a classroom setting due to ADHD, Tourettes, Autimism or the like. We love this school and its teachers and staff. The school definitely emphasizes its Catholic identity, which is the primary reason why I would even consider sending my kids to a Catholic school. There are several award-winning teachers here and it shows. Quality education, family-like environment and the tuition is extremely reasonable for a private school. While they may not have the fanciest things and facilities, when I see my child's development and love for going to school, I feel reassured that I've made the right decision by sending him here. I've gotten involved with the parent community, which at first was a bit daunting but it's been a great experience getting to know them and I look forward to journeying together with them as our children all grow up here.

However, I do have to say under this new principal the school has become very business driven and has lost the old Catholic school culture. She lacks leadership and has developed an atmosphere of turning the other way when issues evolve. She's very transparent of the families and student selections that have more facilitation to support economically. The bullying situation in the school is atrocious. They have nothing set in place to have any control over the situation and only have a part-time counselor so if it's her day off and there's an issue to be addressed, good luck. Again to be fair there is a handful of good hearted teachers that work hard and care about the students but the leadership. I feel well little by little deteriorate, the quality of the school. Just speaking from the heart and God willing things will change for future generations once this leadership team is no longer there.

There are lots of smart kids out there- legacy or non legacy so it must be very hard for the admission team to decide. A little luck and a lot of hard work helped! My children have been very happy here. Teachers are great and the supporting staff are amazing. The school cares a lot about students' intellectual and emotional wellbeing. This user has zero friends and only 4 reviews. I reported the review and Yelps response was that the review has been previously reported. Hmmmm.... The user states that Emery Weiner only accepts wealthy white Jewish students which is 100% false. Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending a Big Brother Big Sister event and met a lovely African American young man who is in the BBBS program. The boy comes from a low income family and is in HS at Emery and is excelling! In fact my cousin attended the school several years ago and was offered the a scholarship. The school enrolls students and hires teacher of all walks of life and income background. As for the school, the teachers are highly qualified and the facility is top notch. The school also offers West U little league and other sports leagues to use their grounds. The school is extremely welcoming to the Houston community as a whole. From what I understand is 100% of the seniors are college bound which is fantastic!
