You might have a different experience from what I had at depending on the time you go! For starters, the worship building was beautiful! Walking around this campus was super overwhelming though. I got lost trying to find my friend here because it's HUGE. I got here about 10 minutes before the service started but did not have trouble finding a good seat. Worship was about an hour long; 15 minutes of singing and about 45 min of preaching. I really liked Ben Young's style of teaching; I truly felt like I was being taught rather than the propensity preaching that most megachurches present. Their bible study sessions was also great; I could be there all day listening to the lady teach. I really regret not bringing my bible and taking notes. Although this was a great church to attend, I personally don't think it is the right fit for me. I found Corpus Christi Catholic Church unique and easy to major thoroughfares. I can hop on the loop, get off at Stella Link and church is just right there. Parking lot is easy access during the ordinary days. That's how I always find a parking space. That may well be different during holly days. I also found street parking on Cheena Drive is closer to the church entrance than the parking lot. The parishioners are very diverse and younger than other churches I've been. I learned how they greet you with palm to palm rather than shake hands. Holy water dispenser is also touchless. The church interior has high vaulted ceiling and it is clean and smells fresh. The choir is always a big plus during its service. They have several outdoor speakers to broadcast the beautiful sounds to the outdoor space. The ground is well kept as well. Overall, it's a serene place to be. Other parts of the church ground are schools and facilities for the community. Google Maps GPS sent me to the kittycorner of this lot initially. That is a different church and different religion. I think it's because there's another entrance to the parking lot connected with a sports field that belongs to the schools.

We all agree that it just felt right when we found St. T. We did not know a single soul when came here but now have many close friends. It is a hidden gem, but worth looking for. Super location at the edge of Memorial Park. It is not unusual to see runners and golfers pop in for mass. Very diverse: students, singles, couples, young families, seniors; all kinds, all walks. All are truly welcome here. Each Sunday obligation mass has a different "flavor", so try another if you aren't feeling the right fit. Also, our pastor Fr. Phil is awesome. Check us out. You will not be just another name on the parish roll. Join a club, a ministry or a class and you will meet lots of really genuinely nice people. I really encourage runners to come by. My dream is to have a runners' mass maybe once a month, I think that would be really cool! P.S. I give 5 Stars because I love this church, but I know it is not perfect. I attended Strake Jesuit for all four years of high school. It is a gorgeous campus and is…read morecomparable in size to a college campus. There are also classrooms with Smart Boards, which use projectors and touch sensitive technology to allow an interactive way of teaching. The faculty is excellent; the teachers are willing to help in any way they can to make sure you're receiving a quality education. Additionally, the school emphasizes community service (during the summer before my senior year, the requirement for service hours was a minimum of 100 hours) and spiritual life (the opportunity to attend a large retreat every year with all of your classmates). Through the community service and retreats, I really grew as a person, as I tried to follow Strake's motto, "Men for Others." There are excellent opportunities to be involved at school, such as athletics, theatre, SJET (a closed-circuit television system), student organizations, choir, orchestra, yearbook, and several others. Also, I was able to take Latin for several semesters, a language class that is not available at most schools. The administration at the school is very accessible, and the counselors are very helpful. I never felt lost when dealing with impending college decisions, and I am grateful for the guidance provided throughout this process. I am very appreciative of my parents for sending me to a great school, and in the future, I will definitely send my kids here.

In our "me" focused culture, sacrificial love can appear unintuitive and not particularly cool. Many attend church to be filled with theologically uninformed promises of personal prosperity if you love Jesus. Real Christianity offers no such thing. If you're currently looking for a Church that truly acts on the tenants of "Love God; Love neighbor", you may wish to check out Memorial Drive United Methodist Church (MDUMC). Found just West of the toll road on the West side, MDUMC offers many opportunities to serve others including: - Support a Community Center in the Larkin area of town that includes day care and an emergency food pantry - Volunteer at a soup mobile in downtown Houston - Participate in prison ministries - Mentor children at a local elementary school - Share your talents to aid those in need in many mission trips scattered around the country and globe - Volunteer to work with hundreds of teenagers in large-scale work camps that transform communities around the State of Texas - And the list goes on and on... The other all-girls' school recruit team showed up withdrawn, and resigned. SAA is a place for ambitious girls, or to make one. Peers are COMPETITIVE. The '-' and '+' to your 'A' will matter to them. They'll make a stink when they outperform you, or sulk when they didn't perform as well as you. As a student, you'll get accustom to so many girls being smart, pretty, AND rich. To restate, if you're simply both pretty and rich, this won't be enough for status. High intelligence/high academic performance is valued here. Know that none of us alumn regret attending here. When I went onto co-ed undergrad, grad school, and the working world, we're all dismayed and astounded by our female peers, who evidently didn't attend an all-girls' college prep run by feminist(s) ...nuns; They'll lower their performance, not go for things, or simply question themselves in moments of alpha male posturing, and such guys' conscious and unconscious inferences to themselves being better than any of us. F*ck that sh*t! [Ahem.] Your daughter won't be naive to sexism. We get to more lucidly see how sexist boys and men (note: not all boys and men are sexist) get in the way of our own productivity, and ambitious aims. Because of SAA's relationship w all-boys' prep schools, there's a stark contrast of experiences --5 days a week you're with ambitious, talented, fearless young ladies who enjoy the pursuit of accomplishments. There's no contending w unconscious favoritism invested toward the success of boys in the classroom (wc studies have revealed are present in all manner of teachers). There's no teen marathon to display physical perfection; Cluttering our time --bc exposure to guys is confined to particular classes, lunch, and outside school hrs. I only applied to U.T. Austin. Luckily I got in. I do regret I didn't pursue my school counselor's recommendation that I apply to Sarah Lawrence College. The ways of public school peers, at U.T. Austin, was a shocker. Including those IB tracked! I ultimately pursued art, so I'll present what unfolded, thanks to being immersed in the culture of SAA. After finishing my Psychology degree at U.T. Austin, I worked for a yr at the State Legislative Council. The sexism (and racism) was high that legislative season. Despite all that drama, it wasn't in the way of my work. Their data showed I was 99% accurate (a.k.a. highest performer). I forgot the next highest performer, but I know it wasn't 98%. Three of the straight women were threatened in some way (mostly job security) by the wounded egos of our male colleagues' unrequited love. For me that was the first conscious moment that I knew no SAA girl would plead for understanding from juvenile, unprofessional men. We handle such people differently. After that job, I pursued a Fine Arts degree at U.T. Austin. On my arrival, I found that the department's art stars were only guys. I remember noticing all their well-rendered paintings of phallus pleasures and hyperbolized woman-child imagery. Needless to say, I was unimpressed w the ruse of pornographic fantasies contextualized in high art materials. ...I made art that employed my psych. degree and (minor in) sociology, as well as the skills I picked up at the Texas Legislative Council (i.e. reading legalese). By my second yr I won the first unanimously-voted merit award (the most prestigious Fine Art department award at the time). Same semester, I got published into a book that my then-professor also got selected for. I went on to be a Skowhegan Resident, which at the time was the top international art residency in the world. Just under 1% of applicants were accepted my yr. I got to study w Janine Antoni, Glenn Ligon and Kerry James Marshall. --To reiterate, SAA culture positions you well. I graduated from my dream grad school, Pratt (was #1 pgm att). I also made first cut for the Whitney program, Yale grad pgm, and full acceptance to Columbia U. ...So my four stars for SAA is bc 1. I wish the counselors informed us of the unfair details of an Ivy League. I only declined Columbia bc it was the first yr of a grad art program. I had no idea the cache of "Ivy League" would yield too many benefits to mention here. Also know, there has never been a year I regret not going to HSPVA. I would choose SAA for every young female in Houston. So would my alumn peers. SAA's also missing that last star for two more reasons: 2. It is extremely odd that nearly all my peers (and I) married white men. What are we not learning? 3. We need better brother schools. WHY were SJ boys allowed to chant, "TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP...!" at SAA girls, leaving many in tears and most feeling shocked, wholly betrayed and unsafe. Now my cousin and her SAA alumn peers are politically active college women. Well-versed, intelligent, and ambitious.

My daughter was previously enrolled in two different daycares, both of which were difficult…read moreexperiences due to the lack of care from the caregivers. However, at Mariner Montessori at Galleria, she has had the happiest moments and a wonderful time. She is currently in the Infant 2 class, and her teachers are incredibly caring and loving. They always show genuine empathy for my baby's feelings, and I feel completely comfortable leaving her in their care. The growth and development I've seen in my daughter since she started with them has been remarkable - I'm amazed by her milestones every day. I'd like to extend a big thank you to Ms. Daniela, Ms. Ester, Ms. Moraima, Ms. Tania, and Ms. Alaguthayammal for all the love, care, and dedication they show my little one. I couldn't ask for a better environment for her!

As much as I wanted to like this school because of the initial tour (which is gonna be the only…read moretimes that you might ever see a director or the owners) and the proximity to us, the experience for us was disappointing on many levels. We left three years ago after several months of enrollment, yet I STILL have negative feelings about our time there and unfortunately, I continue to hear from others about some of the same issues. I was initially very enthusiastic about Mariner and even recommended it to two friends, both of whom stayed And were quite happy. In my case unfortunately, things did not work out and turned unpleasant quickly. In my son's class, one wonderful teacher left, followed shortly by the other. Within a short period of time, the class went from a teacher-to-child ratio of approximately 1:8 to 1:22 children. The replacement teachers who showed up over night were very young, no native English speakers and without credentials or experience I would expect from teachers responsible for so many young children. More concerning to me were the safety issues. On two occasions, my son came home with unexplained bruises. The second incident ultimately led me to withdraw. I received him back with a huge bruise, and no one at the school could explain how it happened! Two days later was then told that he 'had a habit of rubbing his head against the carpet'--something he had never seen before and I have never seen since. During my meeting with the director, it became obvious that someone was not watching my son and he got injured, but they were not clear about how it happened. Do not send your child here! We immediately withdrew and while Ms Jenny and Ms Pat handled the situation courteously and refunded tuition and deposit without delays, the experience left me deeply concerned. During the time my son was enrolled, there was also an extraordinary amount of staff turnover. Several teachers who had left stayed in touch with us and told us they had left because of poor working conditions and low pay ($13/hr). There was also a woman at the front door (Ms Jessica 2021-2023) who was consistently rude and made morning drop-off unpleasant for families. She was eventually replaced only after she moved to New York. Another thing that always bothered me was the overwhelming smell of cleaning chemicals. I understand and appreciate the importance of cleanliness, but my son would often come home smelling strongly of Fabuloso. It was so strong that I found myself wondering whether the school was relying too heavily on chemicals rather than using more thorough cleaning methods such as deep or steam cleaning. I genuinely dreaded that smell when I picked him up. To make a long story short, there are better options out there. After leaving Mariner Montessori, we enrolled our son at Children's Village in West University, and our experience there was absolutely wonderful year after year. Mariner Montessori was a very difficult experience for us, and unfortunately, even years later, I still have not forgotten it. I heard a similar concerns from another parent, and finally decided it was important to share my experience as well. I hope this helps other families make an informed decision. Each school has their pros and cons.
