I was at Providence Hospital March 5th (2021) for CT scan and bloodwork, March 8th for bloodwork and Covid test and paperwork and March 12th for a surgical procedure on my heart. Each and every visit was met with empathy, concern, and a great attitude in everyone I met. The people I came into contact with in the offices, the labs and the surgical suites went above and beyond to take care, inform, make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. My stay there was among the best of any procedures I have every experienced and unfortunately I have had several in the past. I commend all the employees and personnel for the care they gave me and for making me feel as comforted and content as they could in any situation. read more

Resident Evil. Do not have your baby at this hospital! My wife gave birth to our first daughter in 2011, and yes, it's taken me this long to write the review. There are some things that happened at this hospital which continue to haunt me and were only further revealed after we had a great experience here in Austin with our second daughter. The nightmare starts right after the actual delivery when the nurse who takes the baby took our new daughter to be weighed. I was a first time dad so I was still in shock at this point; the woman who took my daughter treated her as if she was a piece of meat at a butchers shop. She did not gently put her on the to scale, she dropped her down, never having a tender move about her. This was only the beginning... Then I proceeded to watch as she moved her around to the other stations as she was literally a piece of meat. Each time she slammed her down, never having a caring or tender move about her. Never once was there a smile on her face. She needed to do something under the baby and I watched her grab her by one leg to lift her up, then release the leg to drop her back down after she was done. This lady was either on drugs or possessed by the devil. As a new dad I was confused by this, I thought that maybe this was something that you were supposed to do with newborns to wake them up or something.... I was clueless. One of the worst parts was after she had wrapped up our daughter and hurriedly went to my wife to give her to nurse. The problem with this was that she just had a c-section and couldn't move very well from the anesthesia (her arms were shaky) . She literally dropped off my daughter on my wife's chest like she was a pile of dirty laundry, immediately turning away to go do whatever else she was doing and left her there alone! I later found out that my wife was absolutely terrified that our newborn would fall to the ground because she could not use her arms very well to hold the baby (during our second experience, there was a nurse there 100% of the time guiding my wife through the process and making sure everything went okay). I remember seeing this and thinking it was kind of weird, but again, I thought to myself that this was somehow normal for deliveries; after all, us men always hear that deliveries are stressful. The one thing that got my attention was towards the end of that horrible day, I noticed one of the other nurses in the room watching how this lady was treating our newborn and she looked absolutely shocked, she couldn't take her eye's off of her, but she didn't do anything so I went back to sticking with my original thesis. I will never forget her face. The real contrast came when we gave birth to our second daughter here in Austin. The atmosphere was almost angelic. They treated my daughter and wife as if they were angels fallen from heaven. Everything was so gentle, so soft, so loving. The experience at Providence was almost one of hate. Not sure if she hated her job, hated our child, or had some other issues, but what happened that day was a nightmare. I'm only writing this now b/c our oldest daughter has some major personality things that she is dealing with and when we try to deal with them my mind always goes back to that day. My second daughter had a very peaceful and loving entrance into the world and it seems to show by the way she is developing. Unfortunately, our first was greeted by a demon and must have had a nightmarish entry into the world. To Providence Hospital: we have a grainy photo of this lady, but I'm sure that her participation in our delivery will be in your records. I'm not able to upload the picture on Yelp, or I would. Until it is verified that this clearly negligent person is no longer in your employment and has been replaced by caring and loving nurses, my recommendation to everyone in Waco is that no one deliver their baby at this hospital! Desire Linch was working on 7/6/2017 at Providence on the 3rd floor and she was so caring to my friend while her grandpa was sick. She was very informative and kind. Hands down the best nurse I've ever seen at any hospital I've been to, and I've been to PLENTY. I can't thank her enough for making my friend and her family's bad week a little easier. read more

Delivered my baby here. Well they delivered, I had a failed VBAC. I'm rating the hospital setting and nursing services, NOT the Waco Women's Clinic staff. The Labor/delivery floor, is remodeled, modern, and doesn't feel like a hospital at all. Wonderful atmosphere. There is an elevator at the entrance of the hospital, that only goes to the 5th floor (L&D) The recovery area is also modern, with a Murphy bed, pull out table, lots of sitting area. The shower is a little cramped, but otherwise serves it's purpose. The nursing staff was absolutely wonderful. Kind, patient, and attentive. Even when I was in labor, we had to bring my daughter with us, and they watched her while I was in the end stages of labor and when I went in for my c-section so my husband could be with me. The food was great too! I was in a lot of pain, and I wish they had brought my meds before they started to run out. They gave out a lot of diapers, receiving blankets, and stuff for mom to take home. Anything I needed, they were glad to help, even if the nurse wasn't assigned to me. read more

On Thursday April 11, 2019 we took my 83 year old mother to the ER with severe stomach pains. We got there at 4pm and did not get to the back to see a doctor until 10pm? She was told she could not have any pain meds until she has seen the doctor. People were walking out and going to Baylor Scott and White, but we had to much time invested to move her plus I dont think she could have made it. This was a NIGHTMARE and will never ever go back to that place. They acted like (6) hours in the waiting room wasnt all that bad?????????? My mom could have died in that waiting room. After the 6 hours the doctor said she had a sever UTI and that her small intestines were wrapping around her hernia. DO NOT GO TO PROVIDENCE! If your insurance pays, go to Premier Urgent/ER they are professional and fast at getting you back there! read more

Saint Catherine's is the nursing home affiliated with this hospital. My mother told the nurses on the 4th floor that she felt bad and they ignored and neglected her. I wouldn't put a rattlesnake in that facility. My mother died from the flu and pneumonia on Monday ( yesterday ). They neglected my mother and they would take 2 hours to answer her call button. Horrible Place!! All that shines is not gold??? How do you give a Zero! read more

Do not go to providence if you go to more that 1 hospital for the same problem the er doctors will tell you that you're out shopping for pain pills some of those doctors suck if i could give 0 stars i would read more

My mother is in the hospital for some type of bowel obstruction. She is 83 years old, and we are concerned about what the diagnosis is, and what they are going to do to treat it. They have been pumping her stomach out for several days now. My wife and I went to visit her this evening, and were told that she could only have one visitor at a time. The other visitor would have to go to the ER waiting room and wait their time to visit. Are you out of your mind???? Why would anyone that is healthy want to go to the ER waiting room to be exposed to who knows what? What's wrong with the waiting rooms on the floors. I suspect that it is laziness and they don't want to pay someone to wipe a chair down. Nobody wipes the chairs at any other place. Who ever came up with this idea needs to see a Doctor. The Governor of our great state has opened up our state for business. Lets get with the program. I've read some other reviews, and it's not good. When you go to the hospital you expect to receive quality healthcare. And for what it costs, you damn well deserve it. I am very disappointed because I didn't get to talk with my mother about what the plan is. I just hope and pray that she comes out okay. read more

ER Gets a big ZERO, but Nurses on 3 South were amazing! My husband had major back surgery. He was 6 days post op & was in SEVERE pain as well as VOMITING profusely. He wasn't able to stand or sit long. The drive was excruciating. He desperately needed to lay down so that he didn't pass out. He was in so much pain that he just wanted to die.(HIS OWN WORDS) I've never experienced this kind of pain, but from caring for him & seeing him, It was awful! I stopped at the entrance to the ER, left the car running, belongings inside - this was the severity of the situation. Gentleman at desk was very nice. Checked him in & I let him know the back surgery situation. He then looked at nurse & said can we get him a bed. Nurse was extremely agitated & said "he will just have to sit and wait like everyone else." I tried to explain that he couldn't sit bc of the back surgery. Nurse said "she didn't care, that's the policy." "We have no place for him to lay down" The desk attendant offered us a wheel chair. By this time, my husband just wanted to lay or try to sit somewhere. He told me to forget it that it's no use to try & get the nurse to help us. We went to a corner & waited. A gentleman of the same race as the nurse comes in the front doors & the same nurse that would not help us, went straight to him with a wheel chair taking him back to triage. Each person in the waiting room that saw this, all literally verbalized it by saying "Oh my word", I turned around to that nurse & said, "what are you, racist"? These kind of words have never in my life come out of my mouth. No excuse for saying it other than my husband was wanting to die & that scared me! Once it was said, it got extremely worse for us. The attendant said maybe that gentleman was having a heart attack. I calmly said, excuse me, I'm sorry, but my husband could be having something just as serious. The guy said, "you are correct." There was no need for her not to help you first. The nurse then called security on us, treated us as if we were criminals after that. Her nurse partner that checked us in was very rough with my husband. Told him to stand or else she couldn't help him. I tried to tell her he was weak from the pain, vomiting & dizzy. She turned to me & said, "AlI I want to know from you is why would you say that to my friend" I said because she would not help me, but immediately helped someone else. It seemed very evident to me. The police came around the corner & said "is there any trouble?" I said, no she asked me a question. I should be allowed to answer her. I also said that he didn't need to hover, all I wanted was help for my husband. The police officer stated in a not so polite manner that I needed to mind my own business & let the nurse handle her business. I realized at this point, it didn't matter what was said, we were going to be treated poorly. It is obvious that these nurses deal with a lot. But isn't that their job? They shouldn't be in this profession, especially the ER if they're not compassionate or even maybe just a nice professional. Fast forward 6 hours, while still in the ER with little to no concern by the professionals in the back, Wouldn't give my husband phenergan bc they said it made you crazy. The other nausea meds were not working, nor the meds for pain. He finally asked for something stronger & the nurse said she would have to see.Did blood work & since the dr couldn't really determine what was wrong, was going to send him home with more nausea & pain meds(which we already had). I can't fault the Dr for listening to the nurses as to what he THINKS the truth may be about the unruly couple wanting help in an ER, WOW! Who wouldn't expect help with a 6 day post op patient in this situation! In between this & waiting on the Dr to come back, I went & found the 1st nurse that talked to us upon entering the hospital & asked her if I could speak to her. She rolled her eyes & said "I guess", I said please forgive me for my comment, I am not like that. I had tears streaming down my face as I apologized to her. My heart was truly in the right place, her response was very short (while still rolling her eyes) she said thank you & turned around to leave. I felt better. I wasn't going to let her attitude take away from my concern for my husband. I returned just as the Dr was entering, I asked the Dr to please not release him until we could figure this out. Obviously there WAS something wrong. He agreed to get an internist to look at him. The internist wanted to admit him for observation. We started this process about 10 AM, went to a room about 9 PM. After 4 days in the hospital w/amazing care by the professionals on the floor. He was dismissed. Still in lots of pain, Went to the surgeon, the culprit was determined to be a severe spine infection that need 12 weeks of antibiotic infusions, central line & home healthcare. Was off work for an additional 6 months. Life altering situation indeed! Wonder why the ER couldn't figure this out? read more
