when your doctor pulls out his phone to Google your symptoms it's a good time to look for a new hospital to go to

I was seen in early December 2020 at Aspirus St Mikes ER for severe chronic abdominal pains & went back 7 weeks later in January & the staff jerked me around again & sent me home w/no treatment or diagnosis! I was seen 7 weeks later on the 3rd friday night in 'january 2021, got there about 6 pm, sat in a room for 5 hours or so, kept hitting the button & staff was real snotty & rude & kept telling me to be patient, then finally gave me a Toradol shot for pain & sent home & got home around midnight! The Doctor was real rude & kept repeating: "What do you want from us?", "Why do you keep coming here?" & "If the VA can't figure it out, what do you want us to do about it?" & I told him the VA is screwing Veterans up on prescription drugs & screwing them around! Then he gave me a Toradol shot for pain & sent home! I am 100% VA connected & get bills every few weeks & 4-6 phone calls every week for a year to a year & a half! Block the number & it changes to another number & starts up again! And pops up on my credit record & drops my credit score 35 points or so for every visit! The VA is responsible for the bills & they should put them on the VA's credit record, not mine! read more

The word hospital is a joke and I wish I could file an official complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. I'm half a mind to do so. The "work" here is borderline negligible. No one here does anything- oh sorry Except when it comes time to hound you about your bill. It's hilarious that I was sent to the ER, the 'doctor' barely took a look at my back No test, nothing She literally told me "I dont know. You'll probably need a physical therapist" Said she would call one DIDNT. (I had to contact one MYSELF) They did NOTHING But they find the time to constantly hound me for the 600 dollars for doing literally nothing. Funny how suddenly they're so active! Every time I have to go to the hospital I dread it. Not for health reasons- but because I know they won't help. They never help. Woops sorry it feels like your back is broken! Sucks! Here's some muscle relaxers, have fun seizing on the way home! 600 dollars please! How anyone can work here in good conscience is beyond me. I really wish we had any alternative. If whatever board members who work for St Michael's ever see this Shame on you. Your community dreads having to use your services. Do better. Your community NEEDS you to do better. I am not one to report or review any business because I believe that we all have "bad" days, but I have to let others know how awful my elderly Dad was treated by a Medical Assistant named Denise A in the Internal Medicine Facility at Ascension St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, Wisconsin She assisted Dr. Kay Czewerski, forgive my spelling.. My Dad was treated horribly. She was impatient, rude, disrespectful, scolding, loud, treated him like a bad child! My Dad is a 91 year old Marine Vet, Hardworking Father of 7 and married to my Mom for almost 70 years! To see him humiliated made me sick. She kept interrupting him as he painfully tried to talk to her and explain what was going on with him. Appalling.. She had absolutely no compassion or couth. I pray we never have to see her again. If, for some reason we do..I will personally take him to another Facility. read more

Worst hospital I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. My 82 mother admitted there with covid and they let her, no encouraged her deatv. They told me and her well , some patients make it some don't! The cow that called herself the head nurse kicked us out of her room while we wanted to hold her dying hand ! She called the police to force us out! Do NOT ever ever use this hospital for anything EVER! These people are worse than horrible! read more

This is the most TRASH hospital I've ever been to. I've been here plenty of times growing up and have never once had a good experience. Nurses seem miserable, doctors are decent, but they do the bare minimum for you; especially if you're in the ER. read more

I became Ill in the spring of 2020. I went to urgent care with the symptoms of Covid-19. The nurses attended to my distress and with mild mocking they had me deficate into a bucket. I was then made to wear a diaper. They refused to test for Covid-19. All they did was laugh at my COVID symptoms and send me home. This is now St. Maybe! Maybe you live maybe you die. Warning! This may be a but graphic but this was my experience. Dr.Weiss was the doctor who took care of me. Unfortunately I do have a history to miscarriages. I was informative at the clinic that same day after my ultrasound. I was alone because my husband was working and I did not expect this outcome. As he told me the only thing I could hear was the words "we see no heartbeat". He held my hand as I was sobbing and stood with me as I asked him questions. This unfortunately isn't my first rodeo, in my mind I am just another patient to him. What changed my mind completely was 2 days after I going into the hospital and DR.Weiss came in to talk to me before my D & C. Then they took me back started to put me to sleep DR.Weiss was right there I asked in a soft voice "can you please pray for me" He took my hand and started praying, that moment I knew I wasn't just another patient, he cares, he actually cares. I give him the highest recommendation best DR. EVER. Thank you so much DR. Weiss!!! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Your urgent care visit will be billed as an out-patient hospital stay at Ascension St. Michael's! I came into the doors marked urgent care and asked specifically if this was urgent care when I entered since it was attached to a hospital and the staff said that it was urgent care. The nurse and doctor who saw me were very nice and tested me for the flu. When it came back positive she told me my options and offered medication which I took. When it came to billing, my insurance would not cover most of it because Ascension codes urgent care bills as out-patient while labeling them urgent care. Insurance companies can only cover what is coded, so now I am left with a $500 bill for an urgent care flu test!! I have contacted Ascension billing twice and they have not changed the coding. Long story short the staff are nice, Ascension is not. Urgent care will be billed as a hospital stay. read more

Back in July of 22' I was experiencing problems with my vision and balance while at work. I called my Dr's office at the Marshfield Clinic and his assistant told me, get off the phone and have someone take you to the nearest hospital ER, I think you're having a stroke! I went to Ascension in Stevens Point, (previously St Michaels). After 4 hours of test including an MRI they determined i was not having a stroke and the ER Dr told me it was likely a low blood sugar event. We stopped on the way home and got a glucometer and monitored my blood sugar every hour all weekend, but it never came close to being low. The ER visit happened on a Friday. On Monday morning I got up, tried to get out of bed and fell to the floor. I could not walk. With the help of my awesome wife I went to the Marshfield clinic at which time my Dr immediately sent me to the Marshfield hospital where they almost instantly recognized I had in fact had a stroke. After 4 months I still do not have full use of my right leg and it constantly burns from the thigh down. It has significantly impacted my life and those closest to me. I will forever wonder had they recognized that at Ascension that Friday night if this could have been prevented. I will also never forget the ER Dr that Friday night asking me to please give him positi e feedback on the survey I would be getting from the hospital because it could affect his bonus. read more

I made an appointment for a consultation, one that would require some lab tests. It took several weeks to get in to see someone. When I did, the practitioner and assistant were very professional, helpful, and pleasant to work with. After submitting my samples for the lab I waited 5 days, and then I phoned to see how long it would be before I received the results. The woman on the phone was flat out rude, and wouldn't let me leave a message for my practitioner. She said the results would be ready when the practitioner had time to review them. When my results were ready, I received a phone call from someone who wasn't the practitioner that I saw. Again, the woman on the phone was very unhelpful. She couldn't, or wouldn't, answer any of my questions regarding what the results meant. It was very frustrating. She said I was being referred to a specialist, and wouldn't say much more. I did get her to at least send me a copy of the results so I could try to interpret them myself. If I could go back to the beginning of this, I'd find a different healthcare provider. One that at least cared enough to take five or ten minutes to discuss my results with me, rather than just delegate things to someone who has no idea. I recommend avoiding Ministry. read more

If I had be able to breath I would have walked to Marshfield. But I needed to call 911 (the 3rd trip) Why did I keep going back you ponder? Well I thought it was still the same Hospital as when it was Ministry ...Don't be fooled it's NOT ...I had heard Doctors were like Rats fleeing a sinking ship as were employees from the mailroom to management but didn't really believe it ..my mistake ,I should have. I caught that TERRIBLE INFLUENZA couldn't get in to see my Doctor but they got me in to see a NP who didn't even do a flu swab and said Tamaflu would do no good since if I did have it ,,it was already going away ...well 3 ER visits later and 3 Hospitalizations I'm at home on Oxygen . I've never experienced such inept Doctors and RNs . Oh I failed to mention I then caught the OTHER STRAIN and it turned to pnemonia .... Seems this could or should have been caught on one of my ER visits Heck a chest X-ray might have dome the trick. It seems Ascension has not improved St. Michaels . When I wanted to file a complaint with a " Patient Advocate " I was informed they got rid of them and now I had to go to the head of the Dept. I had the problem with SO if I have a problem with a Doctor I go file a complaint with their Golfing Bud ? Probably outsourced the Advocates with the Billing Dept. The girl that registered us was polite and respectful. We waited about a usual amount of time. Brought my 4 year old with fevers and a headache. Finally got called back and the lady "other girl registering" walked us back. Wait let me correct that, she called our name and rudely walked away through the double doors and disappeared while I was holding my daughter waiting for my mother to catch up. She finally realized we were not behind her and came back to say, "u coming?" Than continued to walk away again. We finally caught up and she pointed us to the room and walked away. Not a word was said. No vitals, weight, height, even to look at a bracelet to make sure if it was even the correct patient. After that things did get better. The doc was very tentative and concerning. Still a bit worried bc I had to ask all questions to make sure things were done right. When do I take this, when do I stop, do I need to call for text results?...etc. on the way out the ride girl (think her name was amanda) tried to apologize but honestly, it was forced and not empathic or honest. And actually tried to walk away while doing so. So over all....best of luck because it doesn't seem promising or up to code of ethics or standards by all means. read more

I have been doing business with St. Michael's hospital in Stevens Point, WI for three decades now. Whether I had insurance or not, they always let me make payments. Until Ascension bought them out. Along with the clinic in Plover, WI. Now without having affordable insurance because I am unemployed, I pay cash. Ascension charges me an additional $30.00 for everytime I come to their clinic or hospital. Ex: blood lab at the clinic is normally $16.00 but since I don't have insurance, they charge the extra thirty dollars, so my total is $46.00 instead of $16.00 Then, I have has always made monthly payments until my bill is paid off completely. Never missing a payment ever. Now Ascension demands payment in full. Since I am unable to pay the entire bill at once, they sent it to a collection agency, and are trying to ruin my credit. I talked with the collection agency and explained I never ever missed a single payment. They said it was wrong of Ascension to do such a thing. They are doing it to everyone. My last blood lab was June 13, 2018. It is the end of July and I have NOT gotten my lab results yet. I have called the Plover clinic a few times, but the nurses will not call me back with my lab results. Something that is also a new thing since Ascension took over. So I'm supposed to make a doctor appointment for $185.00 PLUS... $30.00 for no insurance, totaling $215.00 just to get the results of my blood lab work from June. I would never recommend Ascension St. Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point, WI or their clinic in Plover, WI to anyone. There's Marshfield Clinic or Aspirus Clinic in the area, who treat their patients with insurance or no insurance, a whole lot better. Ascension should be ashamed of themselves for their neglective policies, and piss poor billing arrangements. Go else where and get better treatment. read more

I agree with Todd. I am in the same boat but with insurance I had my gallbladder removed in March and first received the bill in July. I have sent monthly payments (not small ones either) every month and they did the same to me, collections. They think everyone can pay their bill in full. Newsflash for you Ascension, most people need an affordable payment plan. Medical costs even with insurance are expensive. I NEVER had an issue with Ministry until Ascension took over. Very bad customer service in the billing department. I go to Aspirus now and WOW they are so kind and work to set up an affordable payment plan with you. A little kindness goes a long way, you should try that Ascension then maybe people would do business with you. read more

Today at Ascension Hospital Emergency Department we received excellent and compassionate care from the registration staff Amanda, the volunteer who took us to our room, our nurse-who listened and diligently addressed our true needs, and Dr Jain who was was caring and helpful. They are terrible in the way they handle billing. We have insurance but their is always deductibles and copays. So we normally pay them monthly if we receive a bill in the mail we make a payment. Last month we received no bill so we didn't make a payment. We didn't remember to make a payment because we never got the bill. They send you to the collection agency right away. I have payed bills to them for 20 years and when I did not receive the bill in the mail due to the fact that it probably got lost somewhere in the post office. This definitely makes me think of taking our medical needs elsewhere!!! read more

This was the worst care I have ever received. I am type 1diabetic for over 30 years, I had not held food down in days. So I went to the emergency room, 3 days in a row as they sent me home with Zofran to stop nausea, which did not work. They did same blood tests each visit, cat scan and X-ray. None of the doctors talked amounts each other and they even wanted to do pregnancy test on me 2 of the 3 visits I went, yet my chart clearly showed I had hysterectomy 9 years ago! I finally was admitted on Saturday, thinking I would have endoscopy done to see what my digestive system was doing. Instead I was left alone with an in with pain mess and zofran and reglan to control vomiting and discharged on Sunday. No answers, no tests done,and sent home to deal with it again. I have never had doctors not care and so quick to blame the diabetes, when clearly there is another issue. Use caution when believing anything from this hospital, they do not care about finding the source of the problem, which like in my case was my digestive system failing thanks to a caring doctor at another facility. read more
