If I could give zero stars, I would.
Living at Ascent has been one of the most frustrating renting experiences I've ever had, and the biggest reason isn't even the neighbors--it's the complete lack of meaningful management.
For months I've dealt with neighbors who scream, argue, blast games, and play music at volumes that can be heard throughout neighboring units with absolutely no regard for anyone else. This isn't the occasional apartment noise that comes with shared walls. This is near-daily disruption that regularly destroys any expectation of "quiet enjoyment" of your home.
Management instructed me to report everything through them. I did exactly that. I documented incidents, called security multiple times, submitted detailed emails, attached photographs, and even provided evidence showing what appeared to be windows opening far beyond the normal limit, allowing noise to carry directly into surrounding units.
They responded once, told me to continue routing all future complaints through management, and then simply stopped responding.
On June 16, I sent another detailed follow-up requesting action and a timeline. No response.
On June 17, I had to send yet another email because I hadn't even received an acknowledgment of my previous complaint while the disturbances continued. Again, I requested confirmation that my complaint had been received. Nothing.
And today, June 27th, I was forced to send a third consecutive follow-up, this time including video evidence of my neighbors blasting extremely loud music, because despite months of documentation, security reports, photographs, and repeated emails, management still has not provided any meaningful follow-up or resolution.
The problems don't stop there. If you live on the first floor, get used to regularly walking past fresh dog urine because irresponsible pet owners apparently face little to no accountability. It's disgusting that common walkways in a "luxury" apartment complex are routinely treated like a dog bathroom. There's actually people that pee on the first floor too as can be seen per car security cam pic attached.
Now that summer has arrived, the situation around the community amenities has deteriorated even further. Large groups of unsupervised teens have been flooding the pool and other common areas, leaving behind piles of trash, food, drinks, and a general mess for residents to deal with. The amenities that residents pay for are increasingly unusable because they're left dirty and overcrowded. The level of frustration has gotten so bad that residents have taken to Nextdoor trying to organize solutions and bring attention to problems that management has failed to address.
The recurring theme at Ascent is simple: problems are reported, residents are told to use the proper channels, documentation is provided, and then... nothing. Complaints disappear into a black hole.
What makes this especially disappointing is that I wasn't looking for confrontation--I was looking for management to do their job. I remained respectful, documented everything, complied with their requests, involved security, and gave them every opportunity to resolve the situation internally. Instead, I was rewarded with ignored emails, nonexistent follow-up, and months of ongoing disturbances.
Don't let the polished tours or marketing photos fool you. They sell the image of a luxury community, but what you're actually paying for is poor enforcement of community rules, deteriorating common areas, and management that becomes increasingly difficult to reach once you've signed the lease.
For the price they charge in San Jose, you can--and should--expect far better.
1 positive thing is the maintenance guys who always show up quick and finish work requests quickly as well but their slight positive is very easily snuffed out by all the aforementioned issues. read more
