Talking with Andrea, I knew that she was astutely understanding what I wanted, what I needed, and what I didn't want in the treatment. My second visit included a seaweed wrap followed by a massage. Saying it was wonderful is an understatement. The seaweed wrap was a unique experience of several different textures and temperatures. It was great to just relax and experience the process up until the final blanket and wrap. Even though one can feel vulnerable being nearly naked and covered in goop getting wiped down, I never once felt uncomfortable or overexposed with Andrea. Her professionalism and mastery of the process made me feel completely at ease and fully taken care of. The massage was exquisite--and i so wish that i had opted for the loner session time! She seeks out and works through knots and tightness in a relaxed and purposeful way. More thank being kneaded on a table, she moved limbs and used the weight of them to fully articulate the massage techniques. I felt a release of muscle tension like I have not experienced before. While the waiting area of this multi-therapist center is a bit on the business office side, her spacious treatment room is right in line with what you would find in a destination spa treatment room. Appropriate lighting, a well-appointed table with comfortable attachments, and a thoughtful area to place your personal items. This is a home-based business, but I am used to such arrangements in this type of work and for a small fee she is willing to travel as well. The space was cozy and private feeling. She started by asking me what I needed worked on, and then allowed me the time to undress and get on the table. The massage was very nice, and it was clear that Eileen really knew what she was doing. The pressure was not too soft and not too hard (most of the time!) and ultimately it was very effective at removing all the sore and tender areas of my musculature. The one thing that I wasn't crazy about was at the beginning and end of the session, probably a total of 10 minutes (of a 90 minute session) was utilized in some sort of energy thing? Maybe chakra or something? Basically she held her hands over an area, not touching, and kinda hovered there for a few minutes. I don't know what that was all about, and I don't believe in energy transmission in that sense or in chakras or whatever. So while it didnt hinder the experience really, it did seem somewhat of a waste of time. But it really was only a minimal amount of time spend on that, and the rest was quite effective. Some of the music playing was interesting...and a couple times she would skip to the next song in the middle. I didnt really mind but it was slightly distracting. At the end, I was given water. A check in on yelp gives you a decent discount, and that is much appreciated. Eileen is very good at what she does, and the enjoyment of my experience went much further than just removing my ailments (which she did quite effectively as well). Upon entering I was welcomed and offered water. They have local goods including Maya tea and essential oils they use for sale as well. The massage itself was fantastic- the hot stones and essential oils were so relaxing. I was able to note that I am not chatty during my sessions and she was perfectly respectful of that. The pressure she applied was perfect and I was a pure puddle of relaxed goo at the end. They offer subscription programs that can be shared with friends. I have gone to many, many massage therapists over the past 40 years looking for relief from neck and back pain caused by a car accident. Lara's Thai massage is the only massage (the only treatment actually!) that gives me more than temporary relief, my body is actually healing. I've noticed two main differences in Lara's bodywork that I think give me lasting benefits. First, she is dialed in during the entire massage and she works in response to whatever is going on in my body at the time. Other massage therapists tend to have routines for each part of the body that allow them to check out during a massage. Secondly, Lara does a lot of bodywork on the areas leading to and opposite of my pain points. I think this balanced approach is key to helping my body continue healing after the massage.
