It was a short drive ( less than 20 mins) to trail heads at ash cave and cedar falls. We hiked a total of about 11/12 miles from ash cave to cedar falls to old man's cave and back. We enjoyed the hot tub after that! Check in and check out was seamless, as the office was extremely close to the cabins themselves. We highly recommend.

When we arrived, the front desk staff completed the check-in process and only afterward informed us that the pool was closed. Had we been told this before checking in, we would not have proceeded with the reservation at all. Because the pool was unavailable, we stayed in the room for less than an hour while trying to resolve the issue. The front desk told us they could not cancel since the booking was through Expedia, so we contacted Expedia directly. Expedia reached out to the hotel, but the hotel declined to issue a refund even though we did not stay and primary amenity we booked for was unavailable. Charging nearly $300 for a stay we could not use is unfair, especially when the lack of disclosure prevented us from making an informed decision. We would have never checked in had we been told the pool was closed. I have stay at this hotel many of times and have never had issue this time however was different. The pool was the reason i left however, i was upset already because when we arrived she said there was a 250 deposit which I have never had to pay all the other time we stayed and she was going to cancel then and I said no ill figure it out however if she would have informed me the pool was close before checking us in I would have let her canceled. A Beautiful Setting, but a Disappointing Experience I first…read morediscovered the Geodomes at Inn & Spa Cedar Springs while searching online for unique places to stay in Hocking Hills, Ohio. The domes were a little more expensive than what we would normally spend for a couple of nights, but we decided to treat ourselves to a special experience. Unfortunately, our stay got off to a very difficult start. After arriving, we checked in, booked our two complimentary breakfasts, unloaded our vehicle, and settled into the dome. The accommodations themselves are nicely designed. The dome is a good size, with a small kitchen area and a bathroom with a private toilet and shower. There is no sink in the kitchen area, but overall, the space is comfortable and the large windows provide a beautiful view of the surrounding forest. The problem occurred almost immediately after we arrived. My wife went into the bathroom, and when she attempted to leave, the door would not open. The latch was catching on the frame and would not release. I am a window and door contractor with 25 years of experience, so I spent approximately 20 minutes trying to get the door open. Unfortunately, because I did not have tools with me and the door was installed so tightly, I was unable to release it. I went to the front desk for assistance and was told that the maintenance person had already left but that they would try to get him back. Approximately 15 minutes later, he returned, and we went to the dome together. He initially tried to slide a credit card between the door and frame for several minutes. I suggested removing the handle set and asked for a Phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately, the tool kit he had brought contained a socket set rather than a screwdriver. He had to return to his truck and came back with a small jeweler's screwdriver set, which was not suitable for the job. He then left again to find another screwdriver. While he was gone, I continued trying to release the latch using the foil cutter from a wine corkscrew. When he returned several minutes later, I was finally able to release the latch by applying upward pressure to the door while manipulating the latch with the foil cutter. My wife was trapped inside the bathroom for just over an hour. Once we got the door open, I suggested removing the handle set so the problem would not happen again during our stay. The maintenance person agreed, and the handle was removed. I want to be clear that I appreciated the effort made by the individual who came to help us. We later learned that he was actually the lawn care facilitator rather than a dedicated maintenance employee. He did what he could with the tools available to him. However, the fact that a guest was trapped inside a bathroom for more than an hour due to a defective door is a serious safety concern. I contacted management the following morning and was told that the guest relations manager would call me. I eventually received the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. We discussed what happened, but the manager appeared to believe that the entire incident had lasted only about 15 minutes. I corrected several details regarding the timeline and explained exactly what had occurred. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the conversation, management offered no accommodation, discount, or other gesture acknowledging the inconvenience and potential safety issue. Even a simple offer of a couple of drinks at the bar would have gone a long way toward demonstrating that they valued our experience. Instead, the response left us feeling that the financial aspect of the stay was more important than customer satisfaction. There were a few other things worth mentioning. The water system in the dome uses naturally hard, untreated water, and the water has a noticeable sulfur smell when running. The odor can permeate the dome, so bringing an air freshener may be helpful. The on-site restaurant, however, was a positive part of our experience. The food was very good, and the service was excellent. The grounds are also well maintained. One additional concern is that the path lighting leading to the domes was not functioning during our stay. At night, this meant walking to and from the domes in essentially complete darkness, which is another issue that should be addressed from a safety standpoint. Overall, the Geodomes themselves are attractive, comfortable, and located in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the initial incident and, more importantly, by how management handled it afterward. Things can go wrong at any property. What matters is how management responds when they do. In our case, we were hoping for some acknowledgment that what happened was unacceptable and a small gesture to show that our safety and satisfaction mattered. That did not happen. I was surprised to see a Holiday Inn in this area since it isn't particularly populated, though I certainly appreciated it being here! The rooms are clean and well-appointed, and any amenity you might need is either already in the room or available at the front counter. I somehow managed to forget to bring an iPhone charger (arguably the most important thing you should bring on any trip) so I went up front to see if they had one on offer and, sure enough, they offered me one right away. I half-expected them to ask for my driver's license or at least room number before entrusting it to me, though they were super casual about it : "It's fine, you can bring it back whenever you're done with it!" Wow, that's a breath of fresh air! The complimentary breakfast here was very nice and had a variety of warm options (not just cold cereal or basic oatmeal like many hotels try to pass off as a meal), and I dutifully returned the charger to the front desk prior to departure, with them accepting it back as casually as they had issued it. Maybe that's more about the nature of people who live around here, though I appreciated it just the same! While I didn't use the pool on this occasion, it did look very appealing, as did the landscaping around the hotel. I was very pleased with my short visit here and would gladly do it again if offered the chance! The space was comfy, included all the necessities, and they even plowed the driveway after the snow. I love coming here and the Chalets are a great choice. They were renovating some of the public areas when we stayed in the winter and they have a bit of a gathering area on the second floor. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean. The breakfast was also well stocked with a staff member available if people needed anything. The two items which didn't stand out...our bathroom sink water would not get hot. The shower was fine but the sink basically never got above standard room temperature. The bigger issue was how loud the room upstairs was down to our room. I swear I could hear every step they took. As luck would have it, we got in after midnight trying to push as far as we could to balance the travel days and our upstairs neighbors were up by 5:30. That's no fault of the hotel obviously but would have been a non-issue with any amount of noise suppression. A fine stop on the road and no reason not to stay but the "ceiling noise" was a lot.
