    The view from my room.
    Jody K.

The good: This Holiday Inn isn't too far from Hocking Hills. As others have said, their breakfast is much better than the standard make your own waffles and assorted other breadstuffs. They have hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, premade omelettes, the usual variety of bread, doughnuts, bagels and muffins, fresh fruit and a very cool pancake machine where you push a button, it drops batter & bakes them on a conveyor belt. The room has both a microwave and a large refrigerator; I've never seen one this big in a hotel before. There's actually a produce drawer, the freezer compartment was cold enough to freeze bottles of water, and a small pizza box fit in the refrigerator. The not so good: I got a room right under/behind a sign, so I had virtually no view. I was going to ask to be moved, but I figured it would keep the room cooler, as it was a humid weekend and there's no shade around. Right by the window is the air conditioning unit -- and a wet carpet. I called to tell them about it but they apparently chose not to do anything about it while I was still here. (I told them it didn't matter to me, but if it were MY property, you can bet that I'd want to take care of a leak.) I got a late start on the 2nd day I was at the hotel and it probably wasn't until 11:00 - 11:30 that I left the room for the day & removed the tag from the door. But, I saw people cleaning the rooms across the hall, and I even greeted one of the housekeepers. But to my surprise, when I returned around 3:00ish, my room had not been touched. When I told the front desk about it, the young woman said that they have one person who does "stay-overs" and she probably left before I removed the tag. I thought that was odd; I've never been in a hotel when the room wasn't made up routinely (except for extended stay type places. I was excited that the hotel had a pool until I saw it: It's a tiny square pool that's ok for kids to play in, but not for actual swimming, so I skipped it. When I was checking in, the woman in front of me asked if there was a hot tub. The desk person said they used to have one -- as well as some in some of the rooms -- but they took them out. (They also apparently took out drinking fountains as well.) The beds are comfortable, the pillows are ok, and there's a good amount of space. I stayed alone, but I think if there were 2 people, there might not be enough plugs to recharge things: there are 2 on one lamp but only one on the other (I switched the lamps, as they had the one with only 1 outlet by the bed), and there is one wall outlet. All in all, this hotel is fine.

Positives: location, refrigerator and microwave in every room, the front desk staff is very friendly and there is free breakfast. Negatives: This hotel is in immediate need of a remodel. Everything is old and outdated. I had a light out in my bathroom, the tv remote didn't work. This whole hotel gives me a 1970's vibe. Very overpriced for what it is.

What is that brown stuff in the pool?

Excellent location for Hocking Hills parks. Rooms are a bit tired and worn but very clean. Breakfast was amazing!

(See my review of them, as well.) They serve continental-style breakfast which was quite welcome to us when we were trying to get an early start for hiking.

Got it. A quiet corner to have a drink and relax? Yup. A main open area to be around groups of people? Check! We loved walking around and exploring the different areas and seeing the views! The flight of ciders was a treat and we enjoyed trying 4 different ones and comparing which we liked best! (Lemon ginger was a BIG hit!) The staff were all friendly and helped narrow down our choices. There's a separate part of the property where they hold weddings and events, which would be beautiful! Looked like they also have food trucks and music in the tap house regularly too. Looking forward to visiting again when I am back in town, gotta try the new seasonal flavor!

Dylan had wanted to show me how beautiful this place has become and also wanted me to meet Matt. Im certainly glad I did! Matt spent some time with us and let us explore the property. Matt is great! Retreat21 is lucky to have him as we found the landscaping to be wonderful. From the patios, to the right amount of gravel on the road, to their gorgeous, landscaped pond and event center and OH! can we mention how they incorporated a 100+ old oak to serve as an altar in their woodland sanctuary. Perfection!!! There is a large guest cabin that can be rented, plus seven other ones and a handful of geodomes. Each cabin has a private hot tub and fire pit. The geodomes just have a fire pit. At the front of the property is a large barn that has been converted to a tasting room. They have several house made craft wines and ciders. You can take those out to enjoy on one of three nice sized patios... one has hanging swings! They serve charcuterie, boards, and flatbreads... I'm on the weekends. They have food trucks. They also have yoga on the weekends that you can do in their vineyard -pretty cool along with other events This is a great addition to the Columbus area and Marysville. I think it's gonna be very successful. Definitely worth the trip to visit.

Event Source fulfills some kind of strange, sick need within my soul…read more I'm one of those people who daydreams about setting tables. Weird but true! In Event Source, I can play with the table settings to my heart's content. Whenever I have cause to be in here, I literally look at the options and try to dream up events where I can employ my fantasies. Those are some pretty strong feelings about tablecloths, eh?! Tablecloths, napkins, flatware, china, serving pieces, chairs, tables, the list goes on and on. You'd be really surprised what you can rent for your event! And boy, do I. For our wedding, I liked the linens that came with the venue, but we punched up the tables by adding a different napkin and a table runner. For the more "VIP" tables we changed out the tablecloth and napkin, and added chargers. Doing the whole room would've been a little too spendy, but with Event Source, we could very effectively make our wedding look above-ordinary. I also used Event Source when I hosted Thanksgiving for 22 people at my house. I ordered all the china (I have some nice china, but man, who has 22 place settings?), which was super fun because of course I went with something I wouldn't have BOUGHT in that kind of quantity. Gold filigree for everyone! (Also, bread plates, gold handled flatware, gold rimmed water goblet and wine glass.) Napkins and tablecloths, too. A plate is, like, less than $2 to rent. Totally worth it. The best part -- didn't have to wash dishes! Yep, ES asks that you return them "dirty" (we rinsed at least). Same goes for linens. Just put 'em in the provided laundry bags. Do you know how long it would've taken me to launder and iron all those table linens?! It may have never gotten done. You can rent things in sets of 10 (some other items may have different quantities... Ask!). Think beyond the wedding. ES is a lifesaver (and a dreamscape) for other events as well! Customer service is top notch. Next time you're headed to ES, can I come?

Our photographer had a 10am reservation and we were there about 10min early. Building was locked and staff couldn't get in with their key fobs. They had to call and "wake up" the owner to come unlock the building. We weren't given good communication or how long the wait would be. Waiting with a baby on the side of High Street was less than ideal with her getting fussy being strapped in a stroller. Owner shows up almost 30 minutes later, doesn't even acknowledge us as she walks by and opens the door for the staff. Once inside one staff member realizes that we were the 10am reservation (not sure why that took so long? the building appears to be an old abandoned warehouse otherwise...). He apologizes for his unprofessionalism up to this point shows us around and promises our photographer a discount on a future booking for the inconvenience. Seemed the least they could do especially because a 20 min delay completely messed up our session as we had a staggered 20 min arrival of different family members to participate in pictures with our baby. HOWEVER, upon leaving photographer tells us staff member texted her during our shoot to say owner will actually not be offering any discounts now or in the future and he apologized for the miscommunication.... so I had considered coming back but DEFINITELY NOT for us or the photographer.
