Stumbled upon this with my friend, I got the regular iced matcha latte and she got the blood orange matcha latte. The iced matcha latte was perfect~ the blood orange matcha latte was interesting in a good way! You taste both the orange and the matcha, it was a perfect balance of the two. Decent but not amazing milk tea. Does satisfy the craving, though! I got a regular black milk tea, 75% sweet, and this wasn't sweet enough. Luckily the boba was sweet and chewy, so that helped. The milk tea itself was pretty watery and lacked the tea flavor. I also got to try the hong kong milk tea with regular sweetness, which was definitely the better drink but still eh. Probably wouldn't come back as there are many other milk tea spots that I would want to try! read more

Ordered: Iced HK Milk Tea w Grass Jelly (~$7) Aya's take: Convenient location with a few tables/chairs making this an easy spot to stop by if you need a caffeine boost. We got the Iced HK Milk Tea w Grass Jelly. It was pretty lackluster for me; it was fragrant and spiced but I wonder if it's because I asked for reduced sweetness. The Grass Jelly was also too big to comfortably sip on. There's plenty of other boba spots in the Bay, and maybe this one just wasn't for me. read more

Asha, you're still one of my favorite Bay Area tea places. 5/5 every time! The only trouble I ever have is either the wait because the lines are so long, or me being unable to decide between all the good flavors. This is my favorite season (Feb-March) with Asian pear and blood orange. It's super refreshing and not like other places where they use syrup. Here they use the real fruit and it shows. Since I'm diabetic I appreciate the ability to have no added sugar in my drink, and they always do a great job of listening to me about less ice. Worth the $7, just take my $$$$$!!! read more

Travel days always call for a solid caffeine stop, and this one came through in a big way. While on a work trip to SF, I found Asha tea house near my hotel and was immediately taken cared of. The cashier was super kind, walked me through some popular teas, and even pointed out a few underrated seasonal options. I ended up ordering the blood orange matcha with oat milk, and wow... heavenly. Blood orange matcha is a such a fun and unexpected combo, but it worked so well. Prices were great for the matcha quality which made the experience even better. Loved it enough to come back the very next morning for the same drink, and I'd happily do it again next time I'm in the bay. read more

March 2026 Weekday 2pm: milk tea with boba did not have much tea flavor! :( It's been some time since getting from Asha, their matcha is better than the teas. Order at the one kiosk or front counter, the order came out pretty quick. There's a couple tables inside. But all tables were occupied, luckily SF has some other public table spaces. Unfortunately there is no wifi. For $6.75, the tea flavor was not present, it tasted watery. The pearls had a great chew. Given that this is tea shop, I was hoping for better tea flavor. I been here a max 3 times already. Once for Matcha and the other times for ginger honey for 5.50 currently! I like the searing it's warm inside each time I visit while it's cold outside. Today closes at 5pm. The service is wonderful and the air is pure! I love this spot near Montgomery Bart. I'm sure I'll be back to try other things! read more

The iced chai with boba at Asha is my go-to drink that always picks me up!! The warm spice of the chai and light sweetness of the boba (at 50%) make it the perfect weekly treat. Unlike some cafes that use a chai concentrate, I'm pretty sure Asha brews theirs in house which makes it pack a ton of flavor. I love sitting at Asha and soaking in the vibes as well -- while busy, it's often easy to get a chair and watch the open kitchen and Kearny Street outside. read more

Stopped by here in the afternoon before checking into our hotel. The shop is small with limited seating and was pretty busy but we managed to snag a spot to sit down for a bit before leaving. Cute and modern decor inside! We ordered at the kiosk (they only had one) and the bobaristas got our drinks out in under 5 minutes! What we got: -Hong Kong Milk Tea: pretty decent drink, and very high quality tea. It was not too sweet even with 100% sweetness (from our standards anyways) -Roasted Oolong Milk Tea: I could taste the really rich roast on the tea leaves in this drink! Not watered down at all, and tasted even more roasted the next day in the fridge. They have a lot of seasonal offerings so the menu that you might see from a couple months ago might not be on the menu. Overall solid spot that emphasizes the tea in milk tea! read more

Small cafe with milk teas, fruit teas, and nice ceremonial matcha! Service was nice and quick, restroom available for customers. I got a hot matcha latte extra sweet (other reviews of it not being sweet enough taken into account) and it was good amount of sweetness and not too hot to drink. There are boba shops that sell tea and then there are tea houses that are artisan tea makers. Asha definitely falls into the latter catagory. Homemade grass jelly and fresh brewed tea. It was nice and light and refreshing. Great indoor space. Street parking. Casual. Good service. Please come and create your own experience. read more

A little more elegant than your average boba shop, but they are more of a teahouse. I think the hallmark of a good boba shop is how much of the flavor comes from tea and not just the syrups as well as the texture of their boba. This spot hits those two notes perfectly for me. Probably my favorite tea shop in SF now. read more

Their tea is soooo good! I love hojicha so when I find a shop with hojicha lattes, I will always get it and Asha Tea House did not disappoint! Their hojicha latte reminded me of something I'd be able to get in Japan and I would definitely come back for it. The drink is lightly sweetened and was the perfect amount of sweetness. Their matcha latte with strawberry was also delicious! I love how they don't add extra sugar in the strawberry, and the strawberry flavor really came through in the matcha drink in harmony. Overall, the tea was perfectly steeped, not bitter and not bland/watered down. If you like deep tea flavors in your tea lattes, this is for you! read more

Not much to say for some mediocre drinks. Ordered the strawberry matcha latte and the drinks came out quickly. The matcha itself wasn't very impressive but I wouldn't go so far to call it horrible. Sadly, the strawberry syrup tasted slightly pungent and artificial, ranking below most strawberry matchas I've tried. I will say that it was nice that they put a sticker on the drink indicating oat milk and escaping from the chilly SF weather was a plus. read more

Wow this place is so amazing! It's been around for so long and a staple in financial district. I didn't know the matcha is top tier. Stopped by Asha for a afternoon pick me up and was not disappointed! Asha is an adorable tea house with lots of options and types of tea to choose from. I went for a iced matcha latte, and the staff member working let me know that the matcha is lightly sweetened, which was helpful. After only a few minutes, my drink was ready. It was the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and earthy. Very yummy and gave me just enough energy without being too jittery! read more

I have gone to this place one or twice over the year and wasn't super impressed each time. I decided to try it again recently and got the raspberry oolong tea with minimal sugar. It came with their raspberry puree which settled on the bottom. However, the drink tasted pretty watery. There was only a faint tea taste. This is what I experienced with my drinks the other times I went there when I ordered a fruit tea so I'm not sure if this is an one time thing. I might have better luck with their milk teas but I'm not rushing to go back to try them since I have found more exciting tea places in the area. read more

I've visited Asha Tea House in Berkeley once, but this was my first time trying their SF location. I ordered a hot Hong Kong coffee and milk tea blend, which I enjoyed. I asked to adjust sugar levels if possible, but the sugar is pre-set for this drink and can't be changed. Luckily, it turned out to be not too sweet (a high compliment coming from someone who is selective about sweetness levels). This location is also quite small and has limited seating, but is cozy and decorated well. This is a safe spot to bring someone who is new to teas and Asian-inspired drinks. read more

Small, quaint boba shop in downtown SF. I came to meet my cousin during a work trip. The menu has a bunch of different milk teas, teas, and lemonade. It was more of a traditional tea shop, which I loved. I ordered the hojicha milk teas hot with boba. The bob was really good, but I wished most of their milk teas hot options came with no sugar. You can order by a tablet or at the front cashier. There's also not that much seating inside. read more

It's nice and open space. They have sitting areas for laptops, small and large groups to sit down & enjoy their beverages. They have a comprehensive menu of drink and milk tea options. They have a tea bar in the back as well. It was later in the day so the service was quick and professional. I ordered the iced hojicha latte, they hand whisk the matcha which is nice. I do think it's a lot of milk to matcha ratio can cause the drink to taste more milky than hojicha. For me a matcha snob, I give it 7/10. It's good but more matcha is needed. read more

Came here for the first time on a visit to the city. The teas here are pretty good. I got the mango jasmine tea with boba with less ice and less sugar. They didn't ask me to quantify how much sugar, but the boba tea was indeed less sweet. The sesame mochi pastry that we ordered was also pretty good but it didn't have a strong sesame taste. It tasted more like taro or something else, and it also didn't have much sugar either. There is a bathroom in the back and it was nice and clean for the city and amount of traffic this place gets. The seating area is a bit more sparse with only about 5 2-seater tables and then some bar stools in the back counter. It gets crowded here but luckily not everyone takes their drinks there. But for the people who have their drinks there it's nice that they use glass cups and are not as wasteful to the environment in that way. Would be better if they had paper or metal straws though. For 2 drinks and 2 pastries, it was about $30 with tip so this place can be a bit pricy. read more

The yuzu matcha sparkler or any other fruit sparkler is my favorite drink here. On a warm day, it's the perfect refreshing drink. The hot hojicha latte is quite watered down. I had to get the strong tea flavor to taste the tea. They said they brew the tea beforehand so that might be a factor in the light flavor. The default light sweet is truly lightly sweet. There was a small convenience fee to use the iPad to order, I didn't know that beforehand and saw it on my receipt afterwards. read more

First time at Asha and very impressed. We walked in on a Monday during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. We ordered a Hong Kong milk tea hot. The entire vibes indoors is very calm and clean. The place has a nice modern setup with plenty of seating. The milk tea itself had a very nice milky flavor with floral tea notes I really enjoyed. You feel like you're getting enough milk to tea ratio. Next time I want to try an iced milk tea. read more

Asha Tea House has been my go-to boba spot for a while - the tea is consistently great. Unfortunately, the service was a letdown this time. We came with a large group and had to stand near the entrance since the inside of the shop was very crowded for a Tuesday afternoon. While I understand some of us were in the way, the staff's tone was surprisingly sharp. A bit disappointing, but still love the drinks. Just hoping for friendlier service next time. read more

I had the strawberry matcha, oat milk less ice and it was good!! Not the best I had so far but definitely not bad. Maybe because the puree was less than what I'm used to. I went with less sweet and it was perfect. I might try other flavors next time. The place was busy, I went today which is weekday afternoon and it had que. We had to wait 15mins in total which wasn't bad. The ambiance was nice. They have few seating available if you wanna sit and enjoy your tea. read more

Always pass by this spot and finally had to try after someone recommended their blueberry matcha - since blueberry isn't currently in season, I opted for strawberry matcha. Nice fresh pureed strawberry but wish there was more of it because as soon as I mixed it as had some sips, the strawberry flavor disappeared and the matcha was a bit bitter, while I prefer sweeter drinks. Overall not bad but not my favorite matcha but this spot does seem popular and has high quality ingredients. Nice cafe interior, good amount of options. really solid matcha and tea in fidi! i tried the asian pear matcha latte, but i have previously had the strawberry matcha latte. the asian pear with matcha was an interesting and subtle combination but still tasted very high quality. the hong kong milk tea is a classic. the service is very nice and friendly. ambiance is super nice and chill, but note that there are only a few (5-6?) tables inside to sit. highly recommend asha! read more

Had the matcha with strawberry purée and it was amazing! As a matcha enthusiast, this tea house is definitely up there for me. The matcha quality was smooth, creamy, with a subtle nuttiness that felt just right. The strawberry purée was definitely the highlight, adding the perfect touch of sweetness. My bf wished they had a bigger size since he gulped his down in like 4-5 sips! Only downside is the parking..it's rough, especially during peak traffic hours. Came in post giants game for a quick sip and rest. The interior is small but very aesthetic and calming. Luckily we were able to nab a table to sip and chat at. I ordered the strawberry matcha and my sister ordered the salt cream jasmine tea- both with boba. In my opinion, the matcha was not my favorite. It was on the more bitter side and honestly did not taste like much. The strawberry puree despite being a little tart sort of overpowered it. Honestly not something I would come back for. The sea salt cream jasmine tea on the other hand was delicious. The jasmine flavor was bold and tasted so good with the cream. The boba in both drinks was really nice, fresh, and chewy! read more

So glad this place reopened post-pandemic. It's always my go-to boba place whenever I'm in the financial district. The interior is small but cute with high ceilings. They have a lot of really great options (caffeinated and decaf). The drinks that they make actually taste like tea and they're also really balanced. They usually have 2-3 people working at the store and service is pretty quick. Menu items are listed on the wall but they also have a laminated menu near their purchase area. They also have seasonal drinks so the menu does change a bit month to month. read more

Asha Tea House was born from a love of tea first founded by engineers David and Diana Lau. This establishment's namesake "Asha" is Taiwanese for "someone that enjoys life", and the hope is that patrons of Asha Tea House will enjoy the flavorful drinks and be reminded of the little joys we have in our lives. Asha uses only high-quality whole leaf tea in crafting their specialty tea beverages. In addition to their tea beverages, patrons can also purchase a variety of whole tea leaves to take home and enjoy. In partnering with local artists as well, one can find plenty of Asha-branded and tea-themed merchandise as well as pottery. Asha Tea House has two locations - one in Berkeley and one in San Francisco. The San Francisco location is near Union Square, which makes it a perfect pit stop for those already exploring the Union Square area. The store itself is on the smaller side, but does have a seating area for individuals looking to enjoy their tea treats in store. There's also a tea bar of sorts at the back where one can reserve time slots for tea tasting sessions in-house. I was in the Union Square area and decided to pick up a couple drinks to enjoy. I went with their hojicha latte (hot), a classic Hong Kong milk tea with boba, and a Hong Kong coffee milk tea. The hojicha latte was not to sweet and well balanced with the earthy roasted hojicha working seamlessly with the smooth creamy dairy in the beverage. The Hong Kong milk tea was easily my favorite as a fan of the good ol classics, and you can really taste the difference in the quality of tea that Asha uses. Last but not least, the Hong Kong coffee milk tea. Personally I didn't sample this one as I'm not a huge coffee fan (sacrilegious I know, but what can you do); however, my friend who did try (and finish it) said it was a good blend of coffee and tea for those of you looking for a drink with a bit of an extra caffeine kick to it. If you're a fan of high-quality tea, then Asha Tea House is definitely worth the visit (at either of their locations, whichever is more convenient for you)! read more

At Asha, we strive to feed your love for tea by serving high-quality whole leaf tea and hand-crafted tea drinks made with fresh, pure and real ingredients. We travel extensively to source teas directly from growers and make almost everything from scratch so that we know exactly what we're serving. We also purposely limit our drink and tea selections to showcase a small but comprehensive representation of what the tea world has to offer, and we make a big effort to share everything we're learning as we help build America's tea culture. But we also know that drinking tea isn't just about the drink. It's also about where you drink it and who you drink it with--which is why we designed every element of our tea house to maximize your tea-drinking enjoyment.

Established in 2012.

Since 2012, Asha has been serving responsibly-sourced artisan whole-leaf tea & globally-inspired hand-crafted tea beverages from house-made ingredients. As a pioneer of the now ubiquitous drinks such as the layered Matcha Latte and Strawberry Matcha Latte, Asha has always first and foremost been focused on serving the highest quality tea. We came in and enjoyed a complimentary tea tasting along with groups of tourists that appeared to be on a tour. Luckily, no dues paid to enjoy the same experience as a walk-in customer! The tea tasting was offered bar-style, and the woman behind the counter was an exceptional host! She poured several tastings including Green, Blue, and Oolong teas and I learned so much about the tea varietals, their benefits, and even how to properly prepare loose leaf tea. I bought my own loose leaf tea set up to take home and a quarter pound of Cocoa Oolong tea, which I got to sample before buying! Excellent and educational experience.

You could actually taste and chew on little bits of torched caramelized sugar throughout the drink. The boba itself was perfectly cooked, soft and chewy. And then there was pudding in there too! Every sip had me going "ooh" and "ahh" as I discovered another delicious texture. The only downside was that the drink only comes in one size, and it was a bit too much for me. I was genuinely sad that I couldn't finish it. That's one of the reasons I don't order boba very often. I can eat way more food than I can drink liquid for some reason. But I'd happily return to Urban Ritual to work my way through more of their milk tea menu the next time I'm in San Francisco.

Parking nearby is horrendous, super busy even on the weekdays before the rush hour so I can't imagine weekends when people are out or other high traffic times. Get ready to make some rounds and pay for parking and be careful since there's very specific signage and times. The cafe itself is cute and cozy. Front area is a gift shop with lots of cat themed gifts and goodies like keychains, stickers, and such, and also some items from local and small artists too, which is neat. The cafe also has community events like movie showings ("The Cat Returns" was one of them which is a great choice) and cat yoga. If you're local, you can also get a time stamp if you are a frequent visitor. Definitely follow their socials for more information. There's reservations online and you can also do walk ins if it's not super busy. You can book for a 55 minute visit or a 30 minute visit. PRO-TIP: There's a discount for students, so if you want to be surrounded by some feline friends while you study or relax, great place to do so. You can hang your coat on the rack and there's a mini shelf area for your shoes. So you gotta walk in with socks! With each visit you can either get a hot cup of tea or a cold can or box drink from their fridge (sparking water, juices, etc.). Very refreshing and you can enjoy it in the cat area too. Sanitize your hands before and after visiting. There's lots of cats hiding around, sleeping, walking around, and some are super friendly and will go into your lap. There's toys you can play with the cats with and there's a wall of adoptable cats. Lots of seats or you can opt to sit on the floor with the cats too. There's relaxing lo-fi music throughout too. Pretty cool that they rescued 2 cats from Qatar and neat that we got to see them. As with all cats, some can be a bit spicy but it's usually just a warning teeth rub. I own cats so there's nothing new. I'm horribly allergic to the cat that specifically lives in my house, but I didn't get an allergy here, meaning that the cats are clean and well taken for. My favorite was a large sleepy orange boy, Ron (permanent non-adoptable resident) that was hanging out next to me the entire time.

I thought this place was pretty solid. I've been to the location in Berkeley, and while this one is noticeably smaller with less seating, it still has a certain charm. The wooden accents throughout give it a cozy, inviting feel. The staff was friendly when I picked up my order and happy to answer any questions I had. I tried the matcha drink with a black sesame cookie, and they paired really well. The matcha had a nice bitterness that balanced out the sweetness of the cookie. One thing to note is the surrounding area. As we were walking in, my partner was approached by someone who tried to start a confrontation. It was an uncomfortable moment, so I'd recommend staying aware of your surroundings.
