I really liked this because it wasn't too busy and I could still enjoy the other tasks I had to do throughout the day. It was great to start my Sunday at Asha and the start of my week! I experienced restoration of my well being through water and heat at Asha. The soak was nourishing and relaxing. This was my first cold plunge experience and I really enjoyed it. I felt awake after! The sauna was great. It was my first time doing that too. It was soothing and my skin felt so great after this whole experience. The customer service is great when you check in and out. A Modern American Take on Traditional Bathhouse Culture! Finally tried Asha Urban Baths and chose the $185 Retreat Yourself package, including a 50-minute massage, 45-minute salt therapy, DIY facial, 2 complimentary towels and 2-hour bathhouse access. Asha is an interesting concept: a modern fusion inspired by bathing traditions from Japan, Korea, Russia and Turkey, presented through a very American wellness/spa experience. Most areas are co-ed and swimsuits are required. SALT LOUNGE: Cozy and relaxing, with huge bean bags, heavy blankets and a disposable heated eye mask. The 45-minute session is strictly timed. Since I was late, I only got around 15 minutes. MASSAGE: This was mixed. My first therapist, Corinne, was very nice and professional, but her massage was much gentler than expected. I specifically requested firm/deep pressure with extra focus on my shoulders and lower back. She started fairly firm but became light despite asking twice for more pressure. She also didn't work on my lower back as requested. She explained afterward that she was concerned about hurting my "bones," which confused me because I meant the normal lumbar area. I also felt a fair amount of the 50 minutes went into managing three layers of blankets. Personally, I'd rather have more time spent working on the muscles. The front desk later explained that Asha's massage philosophy is primarily relaxation-focused. This explained the mismatch. The questionnaire came only about 10 minutes before my appointment; asking about pressure and preferences when booking would make more sense. Fortunately, my host recommended Billy, whom she described as their number-one massage therapist and an experienced chiropractor's-office therapist. He did NOT disappoint. He used the firm/deep pressure I wanted, worked on my lower back, spent much less time with blankets, repositioned my pillow when I turned over, and gave me helpful insight into tense areas and stretches to try at home. If you want firm/deep pressure, I'd definitely ask for Billy. BATHHOUSE: The facility is nice, clean, quiet and aesthetically pleasing, with hot pools, cold plunge, sauna, steam room, showers, another pool/sauna area, salt lounge and massage rooms. The biggest difference was what "bathing" means here. Asha asks guests to bring a bathing suit and rinse/wash with the provided body soap while wearing it before entering communal pools. I'm accustomed to a more thorough ritual: washing your entire body, shampooing your hair, washing your face, etc. Because you're normally undressed in the bathing area, you can fully wash before entering communal pools. At Asha, you're wearing a swimsuit and rinsing in a co-ed area, so some areas aren't thoroughly washed. I also noticed dead skin in a few communal pools, so I still wanted to shower properly when I got home. I suspect this is the practical compromise of a co-ed, swimsuit-required bathhouse in a compact American wellness setting. That's the key to understanding Asha: it isn't trying to recreate a Korean jjimjilbang, Japanese sentō/onsen, Russian banya or Turkish hammam. It takes selected elements: communal soaking, heat, cold, sauna, relaxation and body treatments, and simplifies them into a modern American wellness experience. AMENITIES & FACILITY: Another area where Asha felt surprisingly minimalist and somewhat cost-conscious for the price. There aren't basic toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, face wash or body lotion, or conveniences I'm accustomed to at bathhouses/nicer gyms, such as cotton buds, hair dryers or hair ties. Even a towel costs $5 if you don't purchase a retreat package. I understand towel rentals are common, but I found this surprising at a bathhouse. They also don't allow payment to be split. A small issue, but unnecessarily inflexible when attending with someone else. There are no pool jets, which seems intentional since the focus is quietness and relaxation rather than hydrotherapy. The main pool floor stays VERY wet, and staff frequently have to clear the water. Better drainage would help. The pool area is also quite HUMID. OVERALL: I enjoyed experiencing Asha because it really is something different in Sacramento. The key is having the right expectations. If your goal is to relax, soak, sauna, have a massage and disconnect from your phone for a few hours, you'll probably enjoy it. If you're looking for the full bathing/hygiene ritual of a regular bathhouse, extensive amenities, hydrotherapy features or strong therapeutic massage, you may find Asha somewhat bare-bones for the price. read more

Overall, a great experience. I was surprised at how busy it got during the middle of the week, and the space felt somewhat small for the number of people there. One thing I personally didn't love was that there wasn't a separate changing area/space for women and men, especially since the changing space itself felt a bit tight. AHHHHH....mazinnnngggg :) Idk how it has taken me so long to get here, but so glad I finally made it. It will definitely be rotated into my self-care routine. My friend treated me to a birthday bath experience. We got to experience 2+ hours of pure bliss. It is nice that there is free parking on-site. You go in and are greeted by the wonderful welcoming staff. They check you in and provide you a key for a locker to keep your things in. They have you sign a waiver and give you a brief intro of what to expect and house rules. They also provide complimentary non-slip slippers...but towels are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. You must have a towel to sit on in the steam room and saunas. It is important to note that this is a bathing suit required bathhouse and all spaces are communal and for men, women, non-binary, etc. There are private bathrooms and changing rooms though. This is also an unplugged experience so phones and app devices must stay in the locker. Once you exit the locker room, you enter into the first space with showers, salt water mini warm pool, steam room, sauna, and one of my favorites - the cold water plunge bath! There are some areas to just lounge as well. I love that they have signage reminding you about noise level (quiet voices only) and prompts to guide you through the experience. We started with rinsing off then went to the steam room. After the steam room/sauna, you are required to rinse off again before entering the baths. So after the steam room and the rinse, I went to the cold plunge bath which was cold but actually not too bad! You gotta just go for it and dip your whole head in- it just invigorates you! I think I did this 3 or 4 times and each time I was able to stay in a bit longer! We also went to the sauna and the warm salt water mini pool. The next area which is outside is known as the "Social Space" where you are allowed to converse at normal speaking voice and bask in the sun and lounge. There is also a back building which has another warm salt water mini pool, sauna, and Ice bucket showers and regular showers. At the time we went it was a complete silence area, but they seem to vary when talking is allowed in the space. This area also has the salt room, sound room, and massage rooms (but these are all separated in the back and cost extra and are by appointment only). It's so nice they have cold drinking water with cups available in both areas and they encourage you to stay hydrated... its also smart to have electrolytes (Gatorade/Pedialyte) before and after (although this is not allowed during the experience, you can keep in your locker and return there to drink as needed). Lastly, they do provide plastic bags for your wet clothes to take home. No blow dryers as this would interrupt the peaceful space. This was just what I needed after being on the go and burning the candle at both ends the past couple of weeks... I've been wanting to check this spot out for a year now but was hesitant. So now that I've tried it out, I'm going to be as detailed as possible since I was curious about these things. - Arrived for a morning reservation for just the $39 bathhouse experience. Was more crowded than expected. - They have: 2 warm pools(no jets), 1 cold plunge pool, 2 cold buckets, 1 steam room, 2 dry saunas, & an outdoor seating/relaxing area. - There's a free small parking lot, fits about 12 or so cars. - Front desk people were nice during check in, they explained all the rules and everything well. - No need to bring your own lock, you get a key for a locker in exchange for your ID. - Towels and sandals are for rent. But I brought my own. But my flip-flops weren't grippy at all, so walking around was extremely slippery on the smooth concrete floors. - The locker/change area is co-ed but they have individual stalls you can change in. It was interesting but I didn't mind it. - They have water dispensers and paper cups for hydration. - The showers are for rinsing off, so they don't have private showers to do a full shower. They have Body Gel but no shampoo. - There were no hairdryers, but I asked the front desk and they brought one out for me to use. ------ Reasons for the 3 stars: I understand the lack of amenities is to keep the costs down, but I feel it's still on the pricier end for what there is and the overall experience. I started off in the first warm pool for a few mins but they had to close it down to treat the pool water, which I thought was strange why they had to suddenly do that during business hours, and also wonder what was wrong with the water. Everyone ended up moving to the second warm pool so it was pretty crowded for a while. The second pool was a bit cleaner. Also, they don't turn on the jets for the pools because they want to keep the place quiet. For early morning, the water was cloudy and kind of dirty already.. After they treated the pool, I was assuming it would've been cleaned but it wasn't, it was still dirty. The cold plunge pool was cold, but the cold buckets weren't as cold. The cold pool's water smelled like bleach or something. The first dry sauna was on the cooler end, about 150F. But the 2nd sauna was warmer, at about 190F, and this one is supposed to have the eucalyptus scent but it doesn't always. They come by once in a while to put the scented mixture in. Since the place is kind of small, I found two hours being enough for me. I did at about 5 rounds of the hot and cold cycle. Overall the place was clean, only the first warm pool was dirty. Finally got to check out Asha for the first time for a sisters spa day. There were 4 of us and we came for a massage and got to enjoy the amenities afterwards. The massage and amenities were great. As for the massage, I believe only 2 or 3 can go at a time so we split up our appointments to go 2 at a time. It's nice that you don't have to book a service and can come just for the use of their amenities (hot/cool soaks, steam rooms, sauna rooms/relaxing indoor and outdoor areas). This option is $40. The massages are $140 (50 minute massage) and $185 (80 minute massage) and include the 2 hour amenities use after. Some things to note, this isn't a huge spa and it gets pretty busy on the weekends. They have 2 hot soak pools (1 that fits about 8 people & the other that can fit about 15ish people comfortably), 1 cold plunge pool that fits 2-3 people at a time, and the saunas and steam room that fit about 10 people or so. Reservations are recommended and I did see a sign on the door that they allow walk-ins but if they're at capacity then they'll only allow those with reservations made prior. It was a great experience and I'd come back every month or even week for a massage and relaxing spa day experience if I could, but the prices are quite steep. The price is reasonable and I have been able to book within the same day. Staff are friendly and professional at check in. The baths are well taken care of and like that there are two to choose from. When there are more people, it is harder to relax and it can take away from the experience. The entire place seems to be capped at a good number of people where it doesn't feel like you're too close and personal with other parties. At Asha, electronic devices aren't allowed, so no pictures... My wife and I enjoyed a short getaway, kid-free. What better time to enjoy some relaxation? Asha seemed like the perfect place for that. For $35 per person, you can enjoy two hours of sauna, cold plunge, hot baths, and chill vibes here at Asha. Unfortunately, the steam room was out of order. I do wish that had been advertised ahead of time, or a small discount had been offered, since that service was unavailable. After borrowing some towels for a small fee ($5 for two) and getting changed in the co-ed locker room, we made some rounds, enjoying the sauna, cold plunge/bucket shower, and hot baths. Some finer details: 1. The hot baths are like hot tubs without jets. 2. There is one sauna with essential oils and one without. 3. When we visited, one of the bathhouses was quiet, but whispering was allowed, and the other was totally silent. Depending on when you visit, these quiet hours may change. 4. Since no electronic devices are allowed, be ready to zen out, or bring a book! 5. They have an outdoor courtyard space if you don't want to be inside the whole time. 6. You are supposed to shower between sauna and pool time, as well as before and after your visit. They do offer body wash, but no hair products. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Asha. There are a lot of rules here, but I get that they try to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. Treat yo self! Great place to unwind after a long week, month, or day. Kid free zone is the whole complex, and it's kept pretty quiet. The main pool there is minimal talking, and if that is too much for you, go to the back side indoor pool where there should be zero talking. There you'll find a sauna and a cold dunk too. I've been here several times and have tried most of their treatments. They have massages available by appointment. We had a couples' massage and it was professional. But it's very pricey. We also went to their salt room where you sit or lay in a room that utilizes the pink rock salt. I can't say I felt any different after using that room. For the most part, we go there to soak in the hot baths, sauna, or if the sun is out, sunbath in the outdoor private patio. I've been searching for a Korean sauna in the Sacramento area that was similar to one I often visited in Atlanta. Asha was the closest thing I could find that remotely resembled one. I visited on a weekday and bought the single bathhouse visit for $39 which included a soak, sauna, cold plunge and lounge for up to 2 hours. The bathhouse was clean and looked pretty nice albeit pretty small. This is a great place to relax if you enjoy the quiet. I ended up getting bored really fast. Contrast to Korean saunas/bathhouses with a cafe and snack area, there's no food here or air conditioned areas to just hang out. You also can't take your phone with you since photos aren't allowed...but that also made the experience kind of boring for me. I would prefer ability to responsibly splash water on rocks for löyly but public saunas in the US seem to make a big deal out of this. It is a very nice thing done correctly but can also be inconsiderate if done incorrectly. A wood burning sauna would be amazing, if a restaurant can have 3 wood fired pizza ovens a sauna spot should be allowed a wood sauna. As my wife and I advance in our respective careers and grapple with life-work (this is the order that it should be sequenced in) balance , we are intentional about scheduling time for some form of self-care. Therefore, I was ecstatic when my wife informed me that she had booked a morning appointment for 45 minutes of salt therapy and 45 minutes of Sound Immersion (the "Deep Rest" package). With a backpack containing a paperback book (e-readers are not allowed), towel, and a change of clothes - I was ready for some R&R! Upon entry, we were greeted by a friendly employee who check us in and provided us with lockers (don't forget to exchange your locker key for your ID at the end of your experience). At the salt therapy room, we were warmly greeted by an employee who instructed everyone in the room to utilize the provided ear plugs and eye mask. For 45 minutes, we relaxed on the super comfortable Fatboy (I'm surprised the company is able to get away with that name in 2024) beanbags and inhaled the calming dry salt into our airways and lungs. Like clockwork, we were awakened by a gentle bong signaling that the session was over. Following the salt therapy, the same employee escorted us into a treatment space with two well-padded relaxation tables. Using the noise cancelling headphones provided, we were immersed in a combination of tranquil sounds and vibrations (we need a set up like this in our home). The conclusion of the sound immersion session ended our guided activities for the day; however, the R&R experience was not over yet! We still had two hours to experience the bathhouse's common areas. Joining for this portion of the experience, one of our favorite couples accompanied us to the sauna (they have two), steam room, soaking pools, and the infamous cold plunge (this is not for the faint of heart). One of the most difficult things was keeping our voices down to a whisper in these areas and I will admit that there were a few times where our group (in collaboration with other groups), were recipients of the gong indicating that you need to shut the ___ up! This was our second visit to Asha and similar to the first time, we left with that euphoric feeling of being drunk on relaxation. During a time where anxiety is at an all-time high and folks are looking for healthy methods to cope with stress, I HIGHLY recommend visiting Asha for a dose of serenity! read more

3 stars for the helpful and friendly staff... Maybe bathhouses aren't my thing. This place was an overcrowded people soup. Also, my 50 minute massage was really 45 minutes. I couldn't bring myself even soak in the baths afterwards because it was crowded and the water was cloudy. So basically paid $140 for a mediocre massage. I'll stick to the Korean spa in the city. Make sure you visit the website and read so you know what to expect when you get there. It is not a day spa with all the amenities. The positive reviews made me consider booking here. If I had a better massage experience and the baths weren't crowded, this would have been a solid alternative to a day spa. read more

I have been here a number of times over the years, though this is the first time I have gotten a massage. I am sure there are good descriptions of the baths and I really enjoy them, particularly the steam room! It's clean and well put together and I love going there. As for the massage, I had a 50 minute massage from Sean. I have had a lot of massages over the years and he is clearly very experienced and knew where to massage better than most therapists! He asked what I wanted and what spots were sore. Sean was pleasant and professional and had a lot of great releases. He checked in about pressure and I tend to like more of a sports massage style and turns out he could do that too! I sit a lot and he managed to release a bunch of my sore spots and help with my sciatica! He was freaking fantastic! I really enjoy this place and would highly recommend Sean for a massage. read more
