But, we visited yesterday (July 19th) and the horseflies were so bad that we had to leave. They were swarming on everyone, even with DEET bug repellent, we were still getting bitten. It was horrible. We have never seen it like this, and have been to this beach many times, at different times of the year. Everyone was leaving. I saw a man with so many bites that blood was running down his legs. Just want everyone to be informed in case you decide to visit. :(

Beaches in New York are definitely not all that so we decided to hit up the Rhode. It did not disappoint! Let's start by saying it was only $14 to park for the whole day! There are restrooms/changing rooms on premises. Everything is compostable so no flushing but the restrooms sure were pretty clean. No running water so you're kinda stuck with just hand sanitizer. I would recommend staying away from yellow, just let it mellow. The area is pretty isolated, it doesn't get too too packed. There's a limit of how much parking is available so it can only get "packed" up to a certain point. Bottom line: come to this beach. This is all I know but don't tell everyone about it. When things become popular they quickly get ruined. I know, I should've not reviewed it but I couldn't stay greedy. You're welcome, LOL, enjoy!

We figured that people would have had to have left by then so we took a chance and drive down anyhow. When we got to the girl, we asked if they had spots and she said yes! It was $7 and we found a spot right away. Parking can be limited but they have bathrooms and the walk to the beach is only a few steps away. The beach is long and narrow with plenty of room for everyone with space in between. We headed to the right and settled just past the area that they monitor. We set ourselves up with our chairs, umbrella and Italian grinders! The beach is clean and well taken care of! I was surprised that the bathrooms had already been locked for the evening and it was only 6:30. I mean, we did pay to use the facilities... closing them before 7 on a peak summer weekend is a bit excessive. Check out the spot closest to where you park. The water is completely still and would make the perfect place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I'm just extremely confused on why we still have these stigmas in 2025 and think it needs to be changed. Dogs attitudes are a product of the owners training. Just because a specific dog breed needs more stimulation, enrichment and training to behave correctly does not mean all dogs that belong to that breed are aggressive. Unless you have a golden retriever, i'd steer clear of this place.

We had such a good time over 2024 Memorial Day weekend, we extended our trip an extra week - totaling 14 days. We stayed in the 600 loop of Legiontown between two different sites- one for our original 1 week stay, and another for our added 1 week stay. The Reserve America website was very easy to navigate and pre check in. We could have also gone to the ranger station at the entrance to the park to book our additional week. As some other reviews have mentioned, some of the sites are very close together and/or in the middle of a field with little to no shade or privacy. Thankfully, most (if not all) of the hundreds of sites at this campground are well documented on YouTube so you can check it out before you go. That, and there's a picture of the site on the Reserve America website. The bathhouse facilities are indeed rustic! Four stalls and three showers on the ladies' side with septic tissue and plastic shower curtains. The facilities were always clean and well stocked - albeit sometimes had wet floors. Other reviews have mentioned long lines to use the facilities, but that was not my experience. I'm sure 4th of July weekend and other peak times would have a wait for a shower. I also feel the need to defend the campground from some of the negative reviews on here: this is a STATE PARK campground. Complete with ants, mosquitos, and ticks. This campground is funded by the STATE OF RHODE ISLAND and not privately held/ for profit like a KOA. There are no RV hookups at the individual sites! You can't run your generator after 8pm and you can't party well into the night either! If you are looking for a sterile campground smelling like DEET and bleach, may I recommend one of the many trailer parks that can be found in the area. Any complaints about the lack of facilities should be brought to your state rep and/or senator so that they can advocate on your behalf to increase funding for the parks. Duh. As for those who complained that they couldn't "commune with nature:" this is a STATE PARK! People will come here with their loud dogs and even louder kids. You want peace and quiet? I can recommend many backwoods camping spots in Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. A lot of the sites aren't very quiet or private, so I would recommend doing your research before booking. The 600 loop of Legiontown (the sites that back up to the wildlife preserve especially) are private, shaded, and each have their own little hidden trail that connects to the larger Burlingame Park Trail that goes all through the state park. My only complaint is that the top screen of the woman's bathhouse door was missing last summer and again this summer. Not a huge deal, but should be an easy fix, no? Also, the camp store had the strangest hours (that were not posted anywhere). We found ourselves having to go into Westerly for ice and firewood multiple times. I cannot wait to come back later this summer, and every summer after that.

I recently read horror stories of families with small kids being thrown out in the middle of the night. Honestly I didn't believe those people were telling everything. I had only witnessed people being thrown out for obvious reasons...noise and alcohol. We don't drink or stay up late. Our noise level is average to low for an average family. I ignored those stories...Now I hope someone reads this and saves themselves and their kids the trauma we experienced. As soon as we got to the site and began unloading the car (around 2pm) the kids kept coming up to us and saying the woman next to us was making comments to them...of course we said ignore her. Well it progressed all night. By 8pm as we're trying to feed the kids and celebrate my nephews birthday this woman started flashing a spot light on us and screaming about quiet hours (which start at 9pm). Despite all of this nobody responded. Until around 11pm when I took the dog out to use the bathroom.I whispered to him to get in the tent and she flipped out again with her strobe light..i finally responded by telling her to knock it off and leave us alone.She's been harassing us since we got here and we're doing nothing... so she called the rangers. The rangers were awesome.They told us we were allowed to talk and move around the campsite. We were trying so hard to be quiet and whisper, and he told us that's not necessary, but we can't be arguing with this woman... We agreed and went to bed. The next morning it was just me and my son at the site. The rest of my family that were registered to the site next to us were at a soccer tournament. A woman kept making complaints about random things like the stick in the fire pit being too long.. I went to the main office to ask to move our site, because I knew she was going to keep doing this until everybody was thrown out... while I was at the main office, the woman made some complaint, saying we threatened her which absolutely never happened. The campground guaranteed me that they understood the situation and we would not be thrown out but to go back and wait for rangers at my site...the ranger came and said he decided to kick us out....the decision was "over the head of the office staff." All the children had to leave the soccer tournament and come pack up the camp. They werent even at the campground during this supposed incident (that never happened) and had to leave. How could that make sense. After speaking for awhile the ranger eventually understood what was happening and believed us. He could tell that we weren't the people this woman claimed we were...but the decision was already made before speaking to us. He told us we could re-book the site if we wanted despite that not being the policy. There was no violation of the rules...just a crazy woman camping alone because she is a miserable human. They don't refund the hundreds of dollars they stole from us... my sister in law was forced to drive back and forth to Rhode island all weekend for this soccer tournament that we were supposed to be staying nearby for... then again Monday for a family event. Of course we request a refund from the park services because we did nothing wrong. I wouldn't waste time if there was so ething that warranted being kicked out. I requested all documentation and they created a new doc with incorrect facts. The complaints I made against the other camper are stated against me.there are no signatures or dates... it was created when we asked to review our case for a refund. The only accurate info in it is where everyone says we were cordial and not rude to anyone....still no refund..basically said too bad. So we got harrassed then thrown out....upsetting the kids causing us extreme stress and financial expenses. Im getting the body camera footage from the rangers to prove what i am saying. For now, the only thing I can do is warn as many people as I can to avoid going there because there was nothing we could have done differently... nothing. RHODE ISLAND SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF TREATING PEOPLE THIS WAY. I didn't listen when I read a similar account. Burlingame never refunds even with proof that you've done nothing to deserve this...

There is a septic service that comes every 2 weeks. We genuinely loved our stay with our beloved dog. Neighbors were quiet and friendly. There is a beautiful beach with gorgeous views of the lake. The campground itself is secluded and quiet. There are spots for RV and tent camping. Bathrooms are extremely clean and well kept. The lady that runs it is super nice, but don't speed on her grounds or she will destroy you. The lake is home to all kinds of wildlife and teeming with fish. Whether you have a ski boat or a canoe it is accommodating! Overall a great place to get away and enjoy nature!! Just don't tell anyone I told you about the secret spot.

I was just here this past weekend for a music festival, and this was the perfect venue for it…read more The grounds are gorgeous, with plenty of space for camping. Lots of waterfront camping space, but if you actually want to be able to sleep in on those hot summer mornings there's also lots of space in the wooded areas to camp. Everything was really clean upon arrival (as clean as it can be for being a camping area) and was kept as such throughout the weekend. Not an easy task when you have 500+ people traipsing around. There's two sets of restrooms (with running water) and the ones at the front also have 2 showers in each bathroom (mens and womens). The showers were much great, hot and good water pressure. There's also a concession area right as you arrive at the campground which carries smaller items (sunglasses, waters, etc) and are super reasonably priced. The only downfall is that you can't swim in the lake (at least not when I was there), but it's a bit murky so I'm not sure if one would want to. They do rent out paddleboats and canoes though for $50 a day with a $50 refundable deposit. There's also some pretty good fishing in the lake. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact that the owner, John, was always on hand. Interacting with patrons, making sure things were running smoothly. He really did a great job of making us feel welcomed. I'll definitely be returning next year :D

Did I lock the doors and roll the windows up? Yes. There's a cul-de-sac right below the tower with these "fake structures" that apparently were used to disguise the buildings during WWII. There were info plaques but I was too scared to get out lol. After googling quickly it says The "Town": The buildings included a gymnasium (disguised as church), commissary, barracks, exchange store, and residential homes. They were all boarded up with signs to stay out and falling objects, yikes! No thank you!

Tip: While this place is an interesting destination, it's dangerous enough that you should probably think twice before bringing young children along for a visit. The day we visited was clear and lovely, but we unfortunately couldn't stay long because our footgear wasn't appropriate for hiking around inside the park. I look forward to returning with more appropriate shoes. Note that some of the cliffs here are both high and steep, so you should mind the signs which warn people to avoid getting to close to the cliff edges.
