    Tent site

Great place for tent camping! The pool is great and many things for kids to do whether basketball, swimming, the arcade, soccer in the field

I don't understand all of the bad reviews.....yes, it is a smaller sized campground - but everyone that worked there was polite and the guests were super respectful. There was one camper flare up after dark, (I assume being a holiday weekend that drinking alcohol played a part) while we were there, but staff ended it quickly (they drive sweet little golf carts!) and even went around, site to site to apologize and make sure everyone was okay / knew it was handled. This place has a very small store / check in office but still managed to offer plenty of often forgot items as well as games for borrowing. They sold some food staples (marshmellows, graham crackers, etc.) as well as ice cream and included very reasonably priced firewood and ice! We ended up in C-8 (a fellow camping family had wanted to move, since, they were staying for a full week and wanted a more level / spacious site - so we got lucky and snatched it up as soon as we were offered it! (The site we were supposed to be on was pretty wide open / didn't have trees for our hammock / so this option was a huge upgrade!!) We ended up with a site that was wooded on 2 sides and had 2 levels (giving the pups somewhat of a buffer from noise / headlights) so we were thrilled! The pool was large and looked clean (we did not go swimming since we were only here for 1 night). There were a few families with children enjoying this amenity during our stay but the pool was by no means overcrowded. (A huge bonus due to the overall small size of this campground). They welcome well behaved dogs and just ask that you keep them leashed and pick up after them (completely reasonable in my mind). I want to thank Cheryl (manager on duty) for going above and beyond to bring us firewood and ice even after the camp store was technically closed! She is very nice and very easy to talk to / deal with. The ladies room single stall was tight but cleaner than I had expected based on other reviews. I did not use the showers since we left early to get to Burlingame, so I cannot elaborate on them further. This seems like a great place for many of the seasonal campers we saw but was also enjoyable for our short stay. The bathroom was much cleaner than those at the State Park (no toilet paper laying everywhere, no huge bugs or spider nests, etc.) although, it was a single stall for each gender. Consider this campground if you want to just relax but still have the luxury of well water and electricity! P.S. If you own horses - Stepping Stone Ranch is literally across the street and there is also a horseman's campground right next door! Yes, be careful - gorgeous horses may be crossing!! I would definitely return to this campground in the future!

The store- watch out for the golf carts they fly through the campground!

Fun campground overall. However the bathrooms here are exceptionally disgusting. They definitely need to be keeping a closer eye on them.

Very friendly and the management is great. Check in was easy, they brought wood to our site, plus kindling. We are weekend campers.

I was just here this past weekend for a music festival, and this was the perfect venue for it…read more The grounds are gorgeous, with plenty of space for camping. Lots of waterfront camping space, but if you actually want to be able to sleep in on those hot summer mornings there's also lots of space in the wooded areas to camp. Everything was really clean upon arrival (as clean as it can be for being a camping area) and was kept as such throughout the weekend. Not an easy task when you have 500+ people traipsing around. There's two sets of restrooms (with running water) and the ones at the front also have 2 showers in each bathroom (mens and womens). The showers were much great, hot and good water pressure. There's also a concession area right as you arrive at the campground which carries smaller items (sunglasses, waters, etc) and are super reasonably priced. The only downfall is that you can't swim in the lake (at least not when I was there), but it's a bit murky so I'm not sure if one would want to. They do rent out paddleboats and canoes though for $50 a day with a $50 refundable deposit. There's also some pretty good fishing in the lake. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact that the owner, John, was always on hand. Interacting with patrons, making sure things were running smoothly. He really did a great job of making us feel welcomed. I'll definitely be returning next year :D

***UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT within the last week***…read more I read previous reviews and saw some negative ones. The new management seems to have stepped things up. I could not put into words how GREAT Wawaloam campground. Sometimes when you visit a campground it feels like you are staying in a parking lot. This is AMAZING. The sites are spacious and incredibly maintained. It is beautiful. Trees and grassy area everywhere. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. There are things for the kids to do. There is a pool, water slide, splashpad, minigolf, big playground and plenty of room for the bike riding. The property is well layed out. For those not traveling with children there is an area that was by us that was 55 and older. The location is not that far from Newport (which is where we were visiting) and Providence. We were only there for 3 days would highly recommend this location. We will be back again and for a much longer time.

When we arrived there was dog poop everywhere in the site my kids kept stepping in it as well as…read moresome paper trash, people were being loud all night, day 2 there was well/ water issues which caused bathrooms to be closed and no on site water for a day. The pool seemed to be leaking as it was only half full in the am my 3yo could stand and it wasn't even up to his chest, they had a hose in filling it all day to keep it from going empty I guess. Leaky shower flooded woman's room overall kind of a mess as far as maintenance but all of those things aren't anything I would normally complain about. Things happen the worlds an imperfect place no big deal. The one thing that really upset me and ruined our stay was the aggressive rude seasonal campers screaming at me and at my children multiple times through the week. The staff was very unhelpful and told me well they are seasonal and you are a visitor ‍ we were not visitors to a site we booked and paid for a site for our family for a week stay Sunday to Sunday. I don't think it's to anyone's benefit to allow seasonal campers to terrorize families just for using the amenities mid week. We arrived to swim at 10am and were berated by a man screaming that it wasn't 10am yet asking me if I knew how to read to go look at the sign etc I showed the time on my phone as did several other patrons including the man's own wife. Despite this he reported us to staff for arriving at 10 minutes to 10 I pushed back and ensured the staff that we did in fact arrive at ten and she became rude and hostile I looked right at the man and reminded him that it was 10am per everyone's clock including his wife's. The staff yelled at me for speaking to him. She ended up apologizing and saying that if she didn't reprimand me in front of him he would tell her boss and she would get in trouble like what? I don't think it's to anyone's benefit for management to encourage or support seasonal campers to harass shorter term campers. This only emboldens them to continue or escalate their behavior. One of them yelled at my autistic son on the playground making him extremely emotionally distressed my husband was there watching him and told the guy if he had a problem to let him know and he would address it with our son and not to speak to our son again especially being aggressive. Shortly after the playground incident a group of them got together and came and stood at the end of my site scowling at me and grumbling I ignored them but it was very strange and aggressive behavior. This campground is advertised as a family friendly place if the owners want it to be a seasonal only location they should run it as such and change their business model, they could also consider making it a 55+ retirement community. Worst camping experience of my life to date.
