I had called the office Monday, twice, and was told each time Dr McCabe is not in today, however, another Veterinarian on call would call me back, regarding a very important issue. I did not receive a call back, so on my way home I decided to stop by the office. I was met with the front desk staff, who was very rude, and told me the Veterinarian that is on call couldn't "speak" to me because my dog is not "her patient". I then asked if that was the case, which sounds ridiculous and a complete excuse of the Drs. negligence, why wasn't I told that when I called twice. Staff then assured me that I would receive a call the following morning from my Vet. I waited for 1.5 hours following morning for the call that never came. I called the office and was told she was seeing patients. I am beyond shocked that this is how the staff operates, Vets included. it is now 5 hours after I called, 3 times within 24 hours, and not one Vet has got back to me. Mind you my call was very important regarding my dog's active heart failure and cardiac cachexia. DR McCabe is heartless, ignorant, and downright rude. She has zero empathy, and her staff is the same. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. I have another dog who is 3 and after this experience I am looking for a new Vet ASAP.

My vet was not cooperative and I seemed to have to justify the decision to put my cat down to her when she could not give me options for treatment or even a diagnosis. Frustrated, I called Lap of Love. They were such a relief. The first time I called the woman who answered was very kind and compassionate. But I chickened out and didn't actually make an appointment. My cat then had a scary incident that made me convinced that I had to do this and I called back. The man who answered was great and got me an appointment within 3 days. I didn't have to justify the decision. I didn't have to get records and PROVE I had a basis for the decision. They did ask for the cat's vet but I am unsure if they called them. I am a little different and I did not want to be around during the procedure. My cat is not the type to be comforted by me. I worried that might be a problem. But it wasn't. The doctor called me before the appointment and told me she was coming and she was on time (very important when you have spent three days just trying to keep your nerve) and kind. I was allowed to step out of my home (I had worried she might tell me I couldn't do that due to liability issues of leaving her alone in the house) and she came and got me when done. She left me a paw print cast of my cat and a locke of hair. Thank god for this service. No one wants to do this but it was a relief not to have to fight for the service when you are using all your strength and backbone to make the decision in the first place.

Money grab--or at minimum, a system that made it feel that way…read more Our first visit was professional. We discussed my dog's condition and agreed on a medically reasonable plan: supportive outpatient care while we waited for an ultrasound to become available. The next day, my dog initially improved but then declined enough that I brought her back. The lobby was busy, and she was triaged quickly. After that, however, we sat in an exam room for more than four hours waiting for a veterinarian. My dog was already known to be dehydrated, yet no water was offered during that wait. When the veterinary team eventually entered, there were comments about having missed lunch. I understand that emergency hospitals get overwhelmed, but from a client's perspective, that suggested an understaffed service struggling to manage its caseload. The veterinarian then recommended hospitalization almost immediately. The physical examination was extremely limited because my dog had moved under the bench and the veterinarian was unable to get her out. I saw very little effort from the technician to assist with handling or positioning her so that a more complete examination could occur. My dog was muzzled as a precaution and has never bitten anyone. Nevertheless, the technician appeared fearful of handling her and referenced having recently experienced an incident with another animal. I certainly do not want anyone placed at risk, but that prior experience should not determine the quality of care provided to the next patient. What troubled me most was the shift from the treatment plan we had discussed the previous day to an insistence on hospitalization. I was not refusing diagnostic imaging. I specifically wanted the ultrasound. What I would not agree to was hospitalizing my dog--and paying an estimate approaching $5,000--while still waiting for the ultrasound to actually become available. Pet owners should be able to ask questions, understand the clinical reasoning, and participate in decisions about their animals. Instead, I felt that once I questioned hospitalization, collaboration essentially stopped. Then came the final frustration. Because this occurred over a holiday weekend, we had not yet been able to obtain a urinalysis. Once we finally collected a urine sample, I called Tufts to ask whether they could evaluate it. The response was essentially no because Tufts had not ordered the test. After two recent visits for the same illness, that answer was difficult to understand. I recognize that emergency veterinary medicine is demanding and that staffing, triage, and patient safety are real issues. But there is a significant difference between recommending hospitalization because it is medically necessary and making hospitalization feel like the only pathway to diagnostics. Based on our second visit, I left feeling that the system prioritized an expensive hospitalization model over the outpatient diagnostic plan we had already discussed.
