This is the only sitdown restaurant with regular hours I've ever seen that has Navajo flea market classics: they have foods like ach'ii, steamcorn, and blue mush that you usually have to get by hoping for good luck at a once-a-week market on unpaved roads! That said, I found the food a bit soggy compared to some of the open-air grills I've been to. The fry bread wasn't quite crispy enough, the mutton rib seemed to be boiled rather than grilled, and the ach'ii was undersalted (but did have a really intense gamey taste). We were visiting our hometown with family and wanted to give them the chance to experience Navajo food. Five of us went for lunch and the bill was over sixty dollars. That is fine. Things are expensive. What was not fine was the fact that our Navajo tacos came out cold and the beans were undercooked. Think a little bit crunchy. The owner got there when it opened and there was only one person there and it was him and he said that he was short staffed today because his family slept in and it was just him and his wife and kids weren't there helping but the guy was a one man army. He did the dough and made the fried bread and serve me. I just felt bad for him because there was a lot of people coming in ordering and he was falling behind and he was saying that his wife and his kids were still sleeping so I don't know how they run the store, but they should at least hire somebody if they don't want to work .Felt bad for the guy but he was good and friendly. Just got my order and I ate and left. The parking in front of the building on the side of the road on Broadway so if you're lucky, you can get a good spot but other than that, some people park in the back or across the street parking. I didn't see anybody cleaning tables so I'm glad the place was clean once opened but once I was leaving, there was some tables that were dirty, but I know he was by himself so good luck sir. read more

We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our food: dumpling stew, corn stew (both with mutton), blue corn mush and amazing fry bread. These menu choices are good if you prefer non-spicy. The radio station was broadcasting in the Navajo language (I'm assuming) which I've never heard before and found interesting. Definitely stop here if you want to try something local. read more

I came to this establishment with my sister a couple hours before we headed to the Bisti Wilderness. I ordered the roast beef sandwich on fry bread and she ordered the stew and lamb ribs. This was our first time tasting anything with fry bread and it was amazing. The roast beef was delicious along with the lamb ribs. Staff was really friendly. And for dessert we tried the blue corn mush which was pretty good as well. I recommend anyone to give this place a visit. read more

I was in town passing by to Shiprock and wanted something local. Ordered the Mutton and Green Chili with the side of blue corn mush. The service was really friendly and informative of the food which is a good plus. When I received the mutton, it tasted good but it was offset by the meat being so chewy and filled with gristle. The blue corn mush tasted pretty good by the service counters recommendation of adding honey and sugar but I don't think the price justifies getting something that tastes basically like cream of wheat. read more

We hated this place, go anywhere else! The food was overpriced for what we were served. The steam corn had 20 or so kernels and large parts of the grilled lamb was like chewing on leather. When we were asked how everything was, we honestly answered saying there wasn't enough corn in the stew and it was too hard but we are just eating it. The waitress was apologetic but then a visibly mad woman stomped over from the back of the restaurant to our table, said she'd take off the stew from the tab, told my spouse to put the meat down that was about to be taken a bite of, and rudely yanked the entire dish away in an angry manner without even asking for clarification or asking if we wanted anything else. We have never been so surprised, appalled, or disgusted with a restaurant here in Farmington; who knew giving an honest answer would have a rigid response? Next time, we'll just go to Chambers Steakhouse; they serve Navajo cuisine too people :) They are friendly, don't overcharge, and are open outside this distasteful place's hours of operation. Incredibly kind service here- patient with all of our questions and gave us helpful suggestions which we really appreciated since most items on the menu were unfamiliar to us. The food had good flavor and I really enjoyed the dumplings although the mutton broth was a bit heavy for me- my husband loved it and drank it down though. Fry bread was huge too - we took some with us and I was pleasantly surprised that it was still good the next day as a morning roadtrip snack. I went here for lunch and was happy with this place. The food is great. You order at the back counter, which is good because then the waitperson can help you decide what you might like. It's not all spelled out, well, it is, but in Navajo. Large portions, fantastic flat/fry bread, and great corn stew. I didn't think I liked mutton much but I'd just never had good mutton. It was the vegetables that came most as a surprise. Thin sliced potatoes along with three kinds of sliced squash were most excellent. Good to great service, and a clean place. Great place to experience traditional Navajo food. The fry bread was yummie. My wife said the hamburger with the fry bread bun was the best hamburger she's had in a long time and she eats a lot of hamburgers. The Navajo Steam Corn Stew was very good it came with mutton which was tasty both needed a little salt which I added. The veggie taco was great as well and could be spit by 2 people. Check it out. You won't be disappointed. We're stopping there for sure the next time we are in Farmington. read more

if you love greasy & huge portions then this is your place!!! we walked into the restaurant and didn't know if we should seat ourselves or wait. as we kept walking forward we realized that we need to place our order in the back of the restaurant. i ordered the navajo burger and my wife ordered a mutton sandwhich. i rate my burger a 4 star. the portion was huge! the frybread was great. my wife said her mutton sandwich was too greasy. the service was okay. if you needed something you need to walk up to the order window and ask for something. oh and we had to wipe our own table because it was really greasy. we don't eat greasy food often. we will definitely be back but we need to allow the grease to pass through before we make another visit. read more

The hours are posted on the door 11-4 M-F the hours online are posted wrong. I ate the RM and my friends ate the dumpling stew. The food and staff were excellent. Oh boy, where do I begin? From the outside? This place looks promising...but that's when reality sets in. My first impressions weren't that great, I was hesitant when I walked through the front doors. The smell hit me like a haymaker from Iron Mike Tyson! I asked what's the smell, they replied...it's mutton. I haven't smelled mutton like that, and I've sampled a few in my lifetime. The place is decorated "humbly"....I'm at loss for words to describe the dining area. The chairs are uncomfortable and I don't want to focus on the negatives, let's just say that cleanliness isn't high on their priorities. Okay.... You gotta order in the back and wait for your meal to be delivered to your table. You need to remember that "Navajo Cuisine" isn't the healthiest of food, it's just plain greasy. Their portions are large and they over the gambit of navajo cuisine. The service needs to be improved and friendliness is below par...the cook was creeping me out, he kept spying on me and looking around the corner. I don't what he wanted but it started to get annoying. So, if you just had to try navajo cuisine and you didn't want to travel out of town, give this place a try.....otherwise go to Doc's in Kirtland. read more

I had the mutton sandwich. The fry bread is amazing! Unhealthy, but huge and delicious. It came with a good portion of mutton and a green chili. Each individual ingredient was delicious. I was expecting something more on it, perhaps a sauce or something. My son had the green chile burger- it was two parties side by side on on fry bread with green chilies and tomato and lettuce in a piece of fry bread. Delicious. I'll try to food again- the taco sounds good. The place is clean and the service was friendly and quick. Decor is basic, but I wasn't there for a fancy dinner. Clean and comfortable is all I was looking for a do got plenty of that. read more

Am so happy to have a Navajo restaurant in Farmington!!! Order at the counter and sit in the clean and cute dining area. I had the roast mutton on tortilla with Navajo tea. It was good but greasy (which I didn't mind). Slightly higher prices than the Shiprock flea market, but you are paying for very large portions and the fact that you don't have to drive all the way to Shiprock to get your mutton fix. I read the reviews and came to satisfy my quest for the top fry bread. The menu was posted over the counter and were not extensive. We ordered the grilled goat and I added a side order of intestines. Not knowing what to expect, we were exceedingly impressed. I've been on the trail to seek out good fry bread from Wisconsin to South Dakota to Arizona. This place has one, if not the best fry bread I've had. Those babies were fried fresh, incredibly fluffy and they were the size of hub caps. Gianormous! The fry bread and the meat combo packed enough calories to run a V8 engine. The intestines doubles the mileage exponentially! The intestines were tough but that's their natural texture. If you have never had native american food, you will find that it lacks the salt laden entrees we commonly get from most restaurants. This is a refreshing change and will satisfy any adventurous palate. I complimented the friendly owner for the wonderful meal. He shared that many people requested for his fry bread recipe but he is wise enough to keep it safely guarded as his Navajo heritage. Awesome, interesting food. A definitely must stop if you happen to visit Farmington. The town does not have much to offer and we are glad that this is a hidden treasure that offers a piece of what is otherwise a disappearing culture. read more
