Dr. Hays was a faculty member at Barry University's School of National and Health Sciences for twenty-four years while working as a Ft. Lauderdale civic activist serving on many city advisory boards. Dr. Hays passed away in 2009. The 2.49 acre park is located off of Riverland Road in Ft. Lauderdale, It is open daily from 6 AM until 9 PM. Park amenities include a walking exercise path, open play area, pavilion with picnic tables, grills, benches, and a very nice shade covered playground. Since it is a civic park there is a grove of trees at the park entrance that have plaques commemorating the volunteer efforts of community members. Although small the park is very nicely maintained is perfect for taking the kids to play, a picnic, or just getting some fresh air and exercise.

The couple moved to Miramar in 1967. Joseph passed away in 1975 and upon his death Mary ran for and won the seat of her husband on Miramar's City Council. Mary passed away in 2019. Forzano Park feels like two parks. On one side is fields for soccer and football with a restroom and concession stands. The restroom was very clean and even had Dyson airblades to dry your hands which is a nice upgrade. On the other side is six sand volleyball courts, a playground, and shelter pavilion. The park isn't very exciting unless you come to play sports. The playground could really use an update but a new $400,000 multi purpose recreational facility is about to open in the park. Forza\no Park is best suited for the Miramar youth athletic leagues.

The park is located next to Silver Shores Elementary School. Silver Shores Park amenities include a basketball court, tennis court, football field, pavilions with picnic tables which can be reserved from the city, a shade covered playground, sand volleyball court, and restrooms. I personally enjoyed the exercise path that ran around the perimeter of the park. I was surprised to see how popular this small park is. While I was exercising I saw a festive birthday party in the pavilion, runners on the path, kids enjoying the playground, and a game on the volleyball court. This is a park that brings the community together for recreation. The well maintained and clean Silver Shores Park is ideal for sports, a family get together, or simply for a walk in the sunshine.

Memorial Park in Pembroke Pines is a park located near the Charles F. Dodge City Center. On one…read moreside of the park is a covered ADA accessible play ground with swings, slides, and climbing structures. The playground was very busy the night I visited. It was nice to see all of the kids having fun under the eyes of their watchful parents. The other side of the park has the Veterans Memorial, a fifteen foot black granite obelisk which bears the seals of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. It also features the flags of the City of Pembroke Pines, the State of Florida, and the United States. Across from the Veterans Memorial is the restrooms and a pavilion that houses a memorial to 9/11. A steel girder from one of the Twin Towers was obtained after Pembroke Pines Commissioner Angelo Castillo reached out to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who bequeathed the steel piece to Pembroke Pines in 2005. The memorial also has sculptures by local artists Benoit Menasche and Felix Gonzalez. Benoit Menasche Italian white marble sculpture is especially moving. It features four stages from the 9/11 event: shock, grieving, acceptance, and the rebuilding. It is a piece that evokes a lot of emotions, especially the shock side which features a skull and the bodies of people falling from the towers. Gonzalez is a retired firefighter who became a sculptor. He contributed a sculpture made from steel of a firefighter and child which is a memorial to the heroism of the first responders on that day. I love how this park is a place for children of Pembroke Pines to play but is also a powerful memorial to America's heroes. Never forget.

It seems that the city is also investing in various upgrades, memorials, as well as public arts project in the park. Overall positive experiences every time ive gone.

This park also has a public art work mural named Mecca by artist Charles E. Humes that represents the history, spirit, and cultural identity of the West Park community. Mary Saunders Park also offers programs that include tennis camp, summer camp, and an after school program. Fields, the tennis court, and the basketball court can be rented for private events. This park is a community focal point that is ideal for events, exercise, and outdoor recreation.

In 2021, the City of Miramar invested 2.4 million dollars into improvements in this neighborhood which included infrastructure and safety projects, along with overall beautification enhancements. This included upgrading Bernard Park with additional lighting. Today Bernard Park is an idyllic spot where people living in the surrounding neighborhood can find scenic views and outdoor recreation. There is a a small playground with climbing structures, several slides, and swings, a natural earth walking trail, bunches, and picnic table with shade umbrella. When you visit for play, exercise, or a picnic, expect to share the park with the local duck population.

Driftwoods Estates is a beautiful 5 acre park tucked in the back of the Driftwood Estates…read moreneighborhood. Driftwood Estates was built from 1960-1979 and consists of 2 to 4 bedroom single-story homes. In 2020 Driftwood Estates Park received $200,000 worth of improvements. Today it has a baseball/ softball field, basketball court, covered playground, restrooms, outdoor fitness stations, a large shelter which can be rented, and a tennis court. My favorite part of the park was the exercise path that runs along the perimeter of the park. As I was walking around I discovered an adorable burrowing owl checking me out. Burrowing owls are considered endangered, threatened or of special concern in nine U.S. states. Unlike other owls they are not strictly nocturnal and are active during the day. They make their nests in underground burrows, which are dug out by ground squirrels and they prefer open grasslands. Burrowing owls are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act so you have to leave them alone. It was a treat to see this owl and quickly leave him in peace.

This is an awesome place to jog and exercise. It's great for kids, including the usual amenities…read more(slides, swings, monkey bars). There are also multiple pavilions great for Sunday bbq. They have a tennis court, a paddle bar area and a huge field for soccer or football. Every thing is free so if you get to it first it's yours. A few downsides include the bathrooms never being open and the grass is rather tall.
