Whether you're looking to kick or toss a ball on the field, get some steps in on a trail, do some fishing, or let your kids run around on a sizable playground you can do it here. Most notably, it's free for everyone to visit! The main star of the show here are the 4 turf fields that offer hundreds of yards of space to play sports on. It's not hard to miss just how nicely done it is also. Being mainly for soccer, there's nets of all sizes to utilize. I'd think a complex like this would be only available to teams but it's awesome to see it's treated like the other sports complexes in the area. If running around on a field isn't your thing there's also a paved trail that gives you a nice view of the lake & wetlands area. While it isn't a big trail, I always appreciate things that promote exercising & being around nature. Want to hang outside without burning in the sun? There's also pavilions that offer plenty of shade with tables to sit at underneath. There's multiple water fountains, a concessions stand & vending machine at the center. Parking isn't an issue as there's a massive lot out front, they've done it all right here. I'm glad this complex is right down the road because I've made it a regular spot of mine. I have nothing but good things to say & suggest you stopping by if you're in the area.

Driftwoods Estates is a beautiful 5 acre park tucked in the back of the Driftwood Estates…read moreneighborhood. Driftwood Estates was built from 1960-1979 and consists of 2 to 4 bedroom single-story homes. In 2020 Driftwood Estates Park received $200,000 worth of improvements. Today it has a baseball/ softball field, basketball court, covered playground, restrooms, outdoor fitness stations, a large shelter which can be rented, and a tennis court. My favorite part of the park was the exercise path that runs along the perimeter of the park. As I was walking around I discovered an adorable burrowing owl checking me out. Burrowing owls are considered endangered, threatened or of special concern in nine U.S. states. Unlike other owls they are not strictly nocturnal and are active during the day. They make their nests in underground burrows, which are dug out by ground squirrels and they prefer open grasslands. Burrowing owls are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act so you have to leave them alone. It was a treat to see this owl and quickly leave him in peace.

They have a tennis court, a paddle bar area and a huge field for soccer or football. Every thing is free so if you get to it first it's yours. It's in an open field and hot as hell. We were there around 3:00 pm and some vendors were already packing up and breaking down their tents. They didn't have the orchid lady there that we always buy orchids from. I feel as this has lost the hometown festival feel now that it's no longer on Orange Drive.

This park has 6 pickleball courts located right next to the tennis courts in the far left area of the park. The times I've come were around noon, the hottest time of the day, where there aren't too many players. Overall a great park!

Yesterday was a busy day as I had the pleasure of attending two parties at this park!…read more At first glance, you'd think that what you see from University Drive is all the park has to offer. This is not the case at all! In the front of the park, there are 3 pavilions, a playground and splash pad. One of my parties was in this area. And it was great. You can enjoy the party while watching your kids play on the playground or the splash pad as everything is in close proximity. There is one pavilion that is a little further away but not too far away. The second party was in the nature center that is technically connected to the office. There is a closed in area and back patio. The back patio is where the second party was as it was a picnic theme. In addition to that the park offers a walking trail and someone mentioned that there is an area to see animals. I am not sure of the extent to that.

Another Saturday, another run in a new park!…read more Well, new to me. My friend and I have a pact to run every Saturday this month while exploring parks around Broward and this first Saturday of September we ventured to Miramar Pineland Park. I was not looking forward to this run since the first photos I saw were a trail with no shade but luckily, 3/4 of the trail were covered by shady trees! This park has the standar $1.50 per person entrance fee for weekends and holidays. Once you enter, the first part has a few pavilions for parties and a big playground with a splash pad (currently not in service.) If you keep driving, it leads you to the new Nature Center (I think) that isn't open yet and the beginning of one of their trails. This is the one we chose to take. It was very hot at 10am but we welcome the covered trail. Along the trail, there's a pathway that leads to a gazebo which overlooks nothing at the moment. If you run around the trail twice, it covers one mile. The nature center looks really nice and looks like it could be used for a wedding party or larger gatherings. The only thing is parking seems limited so I'm interested to see if they add any later. Driving out of the park, we noticed that there is also a "Wetland Trail" so you bet this is going to be one of our future runs. Hopefully we remember to bring sunblock as it looks like this one doesn't have any shade.

Unfortunately, with the rise in popularity of pickle ball, the reduced the number of tennis courts to add pickle ball courts. Now there are only two tennis courts. Pretty much every time I go up there both courts are taken, and I have to wait for one to open up.

This park in east Miramar was named in honor of former Miramar City Commissioner A. Joseph Forzano…read moreand his wife Mary Forzano who also served as City Commissioner. The couple moved to Miramar in 1967. Joseph passed away in 1975 and upon his death Mary ran for and won the seat of her husband on Miramar's City Council. Mary passed away in 2019. Forzano Park feels like two parks. On one side is fields for soccer and football with a restroom and concession stands. The restroom was very clean and even had Dyson airblades to dry your hands which is a nice upgrade. On the other side is six sand volleyball courts, a playground, and shelter pavilion. The park isn't very exciting unless you come to play sports. The playground could really use an update but a new $400,000 multi purpose recreational facility is about to open in the park. Forza\no Park is best suited for the Miramar youth athletic leagues.

Miramar is the southern most city in Broward County. The city was founded by A.L. Mailman as a…read morebedroom community for nearby Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Mailman built 56 inexpensive homes of concrete with flat roofs which sold quickly because of their low cost and which launched the city of Miramar. The city was incorporated on May 26, 1955, and was named for the Miramar area of Havana, Cuba where Mailman had a summer home. Miramar translates to look at the sea in Spanish. Miramar has a number of well appointed parks both large and small. On the small side is 19th Street Park. This quarter acre community recreational resource is considered a tot lot or pocket park. Pocket parks are generally less than a half acre in size and can have different amenities for the public. This type of mini park arose from a desire in communities to have places for kids to play instead of another building or wasted vacant land. The creation of this park arose out of the need to provide recreational amenities to a east part of Miramar that had none for miles and kids were playing in the street. Three private residential lots across from St. Stephen Catholic School were purchased to develop into this park. The fenced in 19th Street Park offers a pavilion with electricity that can be reserved, barbeques, picnic tables, a playground, swings, and very unusual for a pocket park, restrooms. There are a few parking spots in front of the park. The 19th Street Park has fulfilled the mission of providing a safe place for community kids to play and for people to gather for parties and events.
