I have loved this cider for many years, I am not local so this was my first stop in at the new location. Pulling up to the building is deceiving as the area is mixed industrial/residential. The tap room is so cozy and welcoming. Many different options for cider. We started with a flight and the bar tender was really helpful in describing options for our selections. Our favorite was the shady grove. I also loved the bird and bee which was bourbon barrel aged cider. Awesome selection! Of note - this bar has cheese plate options and pizza. They welcome dogs and you are able to bring in food delivery if you'd like. Lots of games and cozy seating areas for groups! read more

My daughter wanted to come here for her birthday and we had a great time. Very chill and relaxing environment. But more importantly the cider was phenomenal. They had different styles for each of us and the flights were a great way to explore them, plus we bought a couple of stemless glasses for $2 (with tasting) that have their very cute logo on it!!! :) read more

I love the new location. I used to love going to Blue Bee Cider downtown but I always hated the parking. The new location has some good parking spots and the owners are very sweet. The tasting room had a bunch of seating and great open space. It was great to meet people around you and have good conversations with people you went there with. Blue Bee is back and better than ever in their new spot on Bethlehelm Rd by Libbie Mill. I am so happy for the new owners Mackenzie and Taylor and love what they have done with the space! You must check them out! The tasting room is so cozy with plenty of bar seating and comfy couches. The cider menu has all the old favorites with a new spin of a "song pairing" and I am anxiously awaiting new flavors once harvest happens and Taylor starts experimenting with new vintages! Cute new location, a little off the beaten path. Does not have the biggest parking lot lots of yummy drinks to choose from alcoholic and non-alcoholic. WOW. This place is just so cool. First off, find me another dog-friendly (inside) cidery. Oh yeah, that's right, you can't! This place is one of a kind truly. We were welcomed by the owners firsthand upon walking in and they took so much time explaining their concept and favorite flavors/recommendations. Turns out their flights are super affordable so we got to try a bit of everything and it was all SO GOOD. Unique flavors that I'd come back for any day of the week - outdid almost every other cidery I've been to in the states to be quite honest. We have been here several times and it's always good. They have a wide variety of ciders mainly on the dry side but some sweeter varieties of that's your preference. The staff are always great and more than willing to discuss the ciders with you. The food menu is limited but works well with cider tasting. There are a wide variety of seating options from the outdoor deck (kinda small) to tables to a lounge area. If you like cider and especially artisanal cider then this is a must when in Richmond. read more

Okay I came here with my boyfriend and my dad since we love cider, and YUM! I loved all the options here. The staff were super knowledgeable about the product which helped me pick a cider, and it wasn't too pricy either. We loved everything we picked, my boyfriend got a tangy / slightly sour one, and mine was lighter and sweet. My dad loved his as well; everything was great. My favorite spot in Richmond. Somehow I always end up here! I've loved coming throughout the years. Always a wonderful spot and atmosphere. I like all the ciders and enjoy getting flights to try them. My current favorite is the flowery Hops Addition. I am not a cider fan at all but was here being a team player. I'm not sure where we were in Richmond, but it seemed like it was a quiet, maybe artsy area. The venue had seating set up outside with picnic style tables and, in a garage area, additional smaller tables where the tastings took place. We were provided hand warmers and shown a table in the garage area while we awaited time for our tour and tasting. It was a decent size with 4 tables set up. This would have been a hands down fun experience if there was at least one or two heaters to make the space more comfortable. The tour guide was amazing. Fun, personable and gave us a ton of info about the process of making cider from picking the apples to how they label the bottles. The tour went much quicker than I expected and was grateful. Once back in the garage, we were brought out our tastings. There were two trays of around 5 ciders each. We went through each one and I was impressed with how different each one was and just surprised in general that there were so many different types. Who knew?! I would recommend definitely going in the spring or summer - not in the winter when its like 20 degrees. read more

Blue bee is great to visit in the summer! They have a nice, spacious outdoor patio. The actual tasting room is pretty small. Last time I visited they had an in house company that does lots of cheese platters and sandwiches. My favorite drink is charred ordinary -- it's tart and sour. Try it! Otherwise, the rest of the drinks are not bad and I usually end up tasting various flavors. I've never visiting when something wasn't happening (bar crawl, festival) so not sure how crowded it gets on a regular day. read more

We heard about Blue Bee Cider on our first day in Richmond from a local distillery- we were getting the low down on various breweries, meaderies and cideries around town. The space is gorgeous, large, bright and then there's the lounge space with comfy sofas and plush seating. Very nice. We opted for flights and I don't think there was a cider I didn't like, but I really loved the Firecracker- we bought a bottle to take home! It's ginger infused and is just lovely in the cider. I also enjoyed the Mill Race Bramble- a blackberry and raspberry infused cider. John loved the Rocky Ridge Reserve- a barrel aged cider had a little spice on it! Hewe's Crab was bright and fruity- very fresh, perfect for a hot day. The owners were fabulous too! They gave us tips for food and things to do on a rainy day- since out plans for Saturday were rained out! If I land in Richmond again, I will be sure to stop in again! read more

A wonderful place to relax on a Saturday afternoon, they had plenty of outdoor seating (not sure if they have an inside area) and live music which was a nice touch. There's an inside area where you go to order and you can either get a glass or a flight of ciders; I opted for the flight as it gave me a chance to try a variety of flavors. I give 3 stars for the cider but 5 for Blue Bee as a venue. I'm not a huge fan of cider in general, so maybe that's why I think most of them taste the same and just a bit boring. A six ounce pour starts at about $6 and they have flights for around $15. Personally I'd rather have wine or beer, but many of my cider loving friends enjoy Blue Bee. The tasting room is small and simple, located inside an adorable stone building that reminds me of a cottage. Indoor/covered searing is available in converted garages with roll up doors that let in sunlight and a breeze on a nice day. The outdoor courtyard has picnic tables and cornhole, and is occasionally home to food trucks or events like the Bizarre Market, an arts and crafts pop up with wares from local artists. My favorite thing about Blue Bee is that they also regularly host workshops to get your creative juices flowing, ranging from cookie and cupcake decorating to macrame and candle making. Blue Bee's outdoor space is absolutely gorgeous. It was a little chilly when we went and each table had their own tabletop firepit. Even though it was busy, we didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table. The cider was delicious - most of them are not too sweet so you can truly taste the apple. We also love that Truckle Cheesemongers is located in the space as well. Highly recommend enjoying a grilled cheese with your cider! My only advice would be to be prepared to search for street parking. They are located in the heart of Scott's Addition and they have closed off their parking lot to add outdoor seating. The good news is there is always street parking available nearby! read more

We weren't sure what we wanted but didn't want to do a tasting, so we decided to try their Essential and Experimental flights - they come with 5 different ciders with descriptions of the flavor and are priced at $15 per flight. We so enjoy having cider on the patio at Blue Bee Cider! I never thought I'd be into ciders as I'm not much of a beer drinker but the ciders here have made me a fan. I mean, why not? We also purchased a squealer (32oz) of their delicious Crab Franc, which is on the pricey side at $30 for the refill ( the squealer is $11), but it's nice to have on occasion and delicious! I totally think Blue Bee is the best cider around. I love their flavors and experiments with recipes. They ferment most ciders down to 0% residual sugar (great) and offer a higher ABV than most (even better). The location is a totally unique feature in Richmond's Scott's Addition neighborhood. A picturesque stone barn and square with a small stone searing room, all surrounded by a stone wall. They make guests comfortable all seasons of the year and do fun events. They offer a cider membership club that's well worth the $40 or $100 per quarter (whichever best fits your budget snd level of enjoyment). Aside from the cider being very good the staff is friendly and pleasant which is a must for any business. This was my third visit to Blue Bee if I recall correctly. I've tried the two flight combinations they offer several times and highly recommend starting with one of those if it's your first time visiting. To date, I've liked every cider I've tried ranging from the sweet to the semi-dry and dry. Keep up the great job read more

We went to Blue Bee on a Saturday! Loveed our tour! Our tour guide was amazing, she answered our questions and was very knowledgeable, the tour lasted about an hour. We sampled about 8 different ciders. The tour had a lot of information on how the business owner started. Maybe would have liked a tad more on the history of Cider itself. My Blue Bee Cider visit was a serious highlight last weekend in Richmond. A friend and I were eating brunch at Lunch. Supper! when our server asked about our plans for the rest of the day. We told her we were apprehensive about visiting this spot after a meh experience at the other cidery. She assured us it was worth the walk down the block...and I'm glad we listened! The open and welcoming grounds are gorgeous, well-kept, and historic. It's easy to immediately feel comfortable upon walking in. We stepped into the tasting room and were greeted by Emily, who told us about our options. You can either do a guided session or one of their two tasting flights for $15. We went with the small batch cider flight. Each selection was well-labeled with a description under the sample, which I really liked...it's no fun guessing which one is which! Additionally, since I mentioned I like sours, Emily let me try a small pour of the Charred Chardonnay...which was seriously GOOD. Of course I bought a bottle to go! Otherwise, my flight included: - Orchard Potluck: Saison - Firecracker - Harvest Ration - Hierophant - Mill Race Bramble I felt like the harvest and firecracker were a bit too strong for my tastes but still nice to try. Mill Race Bramble was, hands down, my favorite. I bought two bottles of it and was so happy my friend didn't care for it. She finished off the strong ones, and that bramble was all mine! One of the bottles I brought home has already been split with my mom, and she also enjoyed it. That's saying a lot considering she doesn't really like anything boozy other than super sweet wine every now and again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blue Bee to anyone visiting Richmond. Cideries are all the hype these days, and for good reason. This one is a great example as to why. read more

Blue Bee is a cute cidery in the Scott's Addition neighborhood of Richmond. The vibe is awesome- it's busy without being overwhelming. The cider is good and the service is equally as good. My friend and I decided to share their two signature flights- the standard flight and the experimental flight. The standard flight included their year round ciders. Made a quick stop at Blue Bee to see what all the fuss was about. A few friends previously made a cider pilgrimage to Richmond and insisted I try it. I was glad I did. The set up is kinda odd, but the ciders are good. The serving room is small, but there is a separate room next door that is larger & quieter (might get cold, though). They also serve breads and various spreads. My server was happy to take time to explain Blue Bee's 'style' of cider. Suffice to say, they emphasize the 'craft' side over the 'hard' ciders. They had two serving option; a 'standard' fight and a smaller more experimental flight. A friend & I combined forces to try both, although I only have partial tasting notes (sorry - was in a rush). Mill Race: Wine drinkers might say this tastes like a Rose. Advertised as tart, but I only detected a hint of tartness. I have not been to the new location since they moved from downtown. My hubby and I came here after we ran the Monument 10k. I would say 5 stars for the cider, 3 stars for the amount of space/seats availability, and 5 star for the Foodtruck they had serving (Dank Eats). The cinder there is just simply great on their own. We went with our (regular goer) friends and went ahead and bought 2 bottles to share. One was a sour cider (sorry, can't remember the name - but it's one of their original ones), and the other was Ardent - which was REALLY delish! I highly recommend the Ardent***! The spacing was not too bad. Our friends were already sitting down at a table so we didn't really need to seek it out. Luckily it was also a gorgeous day because a lot of people ended up sitting on the curb or on the ground. It was an overall gorgeous day to have experience this place and I would recommend it. ESPECIALLY if they also have the foodtruck Dank Eats there. Dank Eats Food review (since they do not have a Yelp account here): The guys on that truck were very awesome and helpful on helping me. I'm going to write a review on their facebook page (not because they told me to) to express how delish their food was/is. I am shocked this location has not yet been on the Food Network. It seems like such a slam dunk. It is just a matter of time and if you have connections you should hook them up and if you are very interested in food and wines genuinely you MUST try this spot. It is very interesting and unique. This is a woman owned cidery (is that a word) of top quality and immeasurable local success. It is NOT what we expected. It is not a picturesque vineyard location, although she plans to expand to something along those lines - currently this is a hidden gem in an urban jungle in a slightly questionable location. However, it really is a treat. First of all the ciders are truly delicious, all unique in flavor, light, interesting and complex. I have never had ciders like these. Secondly, it is just a neat experience. Courtney quit her day job 3 years ago to educate herself at cornell in ciders and between herself and her clever engineer Liam and staff they have concocted some very curious brews. The talent and thought is really evident when you taste these ciders, the location immaculate and all of the apples are from Virginia. They engage in sustainable practices like trading local mulberries for cider and etc. She is completely sold out - every item they manufacture is sold locally, if they could produce more, undoubtedly they would take the States by storm. So these unique treats are really only found locally and very worth the trip. I am not even a fan of apples or of cider - but this was different - a really special experience and I think they will go far and should definitely be on the Food Network! Go check them out! My sister joined their Cider Club a few weeks ago, so she thought it'd be a great place to check out while I was in town. They had two different flights of cider, so we got one of each. So, in all I tried 10 of their ciders - which was super fun! I'd tell you my favorite, but honestly the point of these places is that you taste and go through them yourself. Besides, even someone that follows me regularly and loves everything that I suggest will never agree on something so specific like cider, beer, or wine. Let's about the facility and staff. The place is adorable (I believe it's an old carriage house?) and the staff was uber friendly and helpful. Outdoor seating sucks when it's humid (especially when you're from Arizona and humidity isn't really in your vocabulary), but they have shaded it as well as they can. They have quite a menu, and it seems to hit all taste levels (whether you like sweet, sour, hops, or . . . . ). This place is an absolute gem, and a must see if you are touring the breweries/wineries of VA. Most of us are familiar with sweet store ciders such as Woodchuck or Strongbow, and this is not that cider. If John Adams were to walk into a tavern back in the day and order a cider, this is the cider he'd be sipping on. Think of it more like a dry sparkling apple wine. We came in here on a Sunday where it was basically empty. We had missed a tour time (for tour times see here: http://www.bluebeecider.com/about-us/) but the amazing staff here gave us an impromptu tour anyway. We learned about the cider making process and how the owner Courtney had gone to cider school (a two week program at Cornell, which you can bet is now something I want to do). We learned that cider making is just like wine making but replace apples with grapes. Each apple that is fermented expresses itself differently, just like each grape you ferment would be a different flavor. Thus the ciders here have a range of different flavors. After the tasting we had a tasting, and here's my impression of each of the ciders: Charred Ordinary, the old fashion tavern style, absolutely mouth watering. After the first few sips you'll be wishing for the Mr. Thirsty saliva sucking machines (by the way is my dentist the only one who calls it this?) that the dentist has cause it's total overproduction. Great cider to pair with charcuterie. By far my favorite, although at first I did not know what to think of it, and then ended up with three bottles. Mill Race Bramble, which is a raspberry blackberry infusion and smells like flowers Hopsap Shandy, a dry hopped cider that is citrus-like Fanfare, a wild mulberry infused cider Aragon 1904, which is similar to champagne, but has the sweetness of the store ciders Harvest Ration, our dessert cider. Comparable to brandy or an ice wine.Great sweet flavor and a bottle will last awhile. As a price point most bottles run about $10 for 500 ml bottle to $15 for a 750 ml bottle. The harvest ration is the priciest at $33 for a 375ml bottle. I could have spent all afternoon in this cutely decorated cidery with the friendly staff, but alas there were more breweries to visit in a short period of time. Don't judge a book by it's cover, especially when it comes to this cidery. They only have a couple tables set up outside in their parking lot and I wouldn't even know they were there if I was just driving by. However, when you step inside, you are greeted by their friendly staff and invited into the cozy little tasting room. The tasting room has their main bar area which has a shelf displaying all of their cider selections. They also have a cute little bookshelf with framed pictures of apples which makes the otherwise stark space feel homey. As for their ciders, they offer a $15 tasting of 5 ciders which together was about 3.5 glasses worth according to our server. They serve the ciders in a small metal tray with a coaster under each glass containing a description of the cider and food pairings. My personal favorites included the Charred Ordinary and the Aragon 1904. A huge plus about this place is that they're dog friendly! They allow dogs into the tasting room and it was great to have our dogs socializing while their mommies enjoyed some delicious cider. read more
