This was one of those unique hikes with various geysers and pools. The trails are located within walkable distances from the Old Faithful hotels and visitor center. Ideally, it would be best to start the hike early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Most of the trail consisted of flat boardwalks and paved asphalt. The boardwalks were icy in some spots during the morning. Observation Point part of the trail was somewhat pointless because there was no "wow factor" in terms of any view. It was still a nice stroll in the wooded areas, eventually reaching Solitary Geyser. Furthermore, this part of the trail had some inclines and declines. The steam from the geysers have an unpleasant sulfur smell. Carry bear spray; the chances of encountering a bear is lower at popular trails but you never know. I mighta been lucky. + Grateful they've the technology to predict the timing of the eruption with a ±12min precision. . For my visit, the prediction was 9:34am. It erupted at 9:35am. - Too bad this broadcast doesn't post in person outside of UGB, like in MGB so guests there know when to head over. Even better, if these predictions were posted around West Yellowstone so people know when to wake and drive out. Maybe that's extra wishful thinking. - I don't have reliable Internet service in Yellowstone to check NPS website. - At 7:18am for me, NPS' website was late to update the next eruption prediction. - Hard to get a spacious view near the eruption. Always crowded when it's about to erupt, whether on the viewing deck or on Old Faithful Inn's 2nd floor balcony. + Nice that the boardwalk is spread around Old Faithful for you to check out other hot springs and smaller geysers, so you're not coming to UGB for just one thing. + And thankfully plenty restrooms and ice water at Old Faithful Inn to help you recover on your long excursion.

It's like the Earth became a steaming hothead haha -- Even worse was the drive out. Tue ~8pm it's a looong slow line exiting Yellowstone's west side. Think I spent 40-60min sitting in that line. . In the morning, why not have 2-3 paid entrance lanes, and 2-3 exit lanes in the evening? Wanna go through here on a holiday or weekend? I don't even wanna imagine.

If you want to walk around, there is a route available. It can be anywhere from a 20 to 40 min walk depending on how much distance you want to travel. I recommend bringing a hat because you can feel the sun pretty quickly once the steams disappear. Clouds move pretty quickly, so you may get a bit of shade, but it doesn't last long. Oh, and hold onto your hats. If it gets blown off and onto the geyser, you can't pick it back up. You must stay on the wooden bridge. Personally, I was not a fan of the smell, but it's a natural side effect of the geysers. There are some pretty active geysers here as well - just not as large as Old Faithful.

The Visitor Center has plenty of viewing opportunities to see the show through huge glass windows, or you can do what we did and get as close as possible to the action for amazing photos and videos. The Old Faithful geyser has highly predictable geothermal features which allows the Park Service to post an approximate time to the next eruption. The time between eruptions has to do with a "bimodal distribution". Now if you majored in math, you MAY know what this is, but for me and the non-Math majors, it means that eruptions will be either 65 or 91 minutes away, depending on the length of the prior eruption. There is a ten-minute margin of error in the calculations, but on our visit the predicted time was right on target. And when it did erupt, it was quite a spectacle. The steam from underground boiling water can shoot up to a height between 106 and 185 feet and last from 1 1/2 to 5 minutes. Amazing.......

A lot of information about Yellowstone Park and an impressive hands-on children's laboratory. There were lots of park rangers and volunteers that were incredibly helpful. There were four huge bison around the visitor center and the Rangers kept us at a safe distance. Yesterday a man was gorged by a bison here.

It was a really cool experience and a must when visiting Yellowstone. I know when my family came this way when I was a child, while most others got to see it, I wasn't feeling well so my mom and I hadn't gotten a chance that trip to come to Old Faithful. I'm glad I was finally able to see it in its full glory. It is quite crowded, so when it comes to pictures just try to stay aware of your surroundings. Try to stay out of main pathways as well as being conscious of the fact it's practically impossible to get photos without others in the background and you'll probably end up in some photos too. If you're already here, don't skip past this well known spot, it's a fun experience for sure. The park is big so if you want to see it all I can see it taking days, especially since the fastest you can go is 40-45 miles an hour with a lot of areas actually being closer to 25. Both my husband and I were so glad we stopped by.

It's cool that the estimated eruption times are pretty accurate, but the actual eruption wasn't anything earth shattering. In my opinion, there are at least half a dozen or more other attractions at Yellowstone that I was more impressed by. The Old Faithful area does have a huge parking lot, plenty of bathrooms, and multiple gift shops & dining areas. So that's definitely a plus in helping with crowd control.

Once you reach the viewpoint, the spot can get a little crowded, but the view is absolutely stunning and unforgettable. One small request to fellow visitors: please respect others and let everyone take pictures peacefully so everyone can enjoy the experience. Definitely a must-do hike if you're visiting Yellowstone!

O give me a home Where the buffalo roam…read moreAnd the sky is not cloudy all day! Home! Home on the range! This is it. This is the place that they're singing about- so many buffalo! This valley is a total change in environment from the rest of the Yellowstone National Park. These lazily rolling hills seem like old floodplains of the Yellowstone River. Along this stretch of the river, fishing is limited, but it sure looks like there's good trout in all these waters. My favorite parts of Hayden Valley are the mud pits and mud pots, and the mud volcano. Here, they have a boardwalk that takes you on a short walk past violently gurgling and gushing mud pits, where the geothermal energy churns up mud violently, so it looks like a dragon is living in the muck under the surface. We saw so many buffalo here, just hanging out along the side of the road, in the fields, just chillin'. They cause traffic jams, so be prepared.

No wonder they call Lamar Valley, not Hayden Valley, America's Serengeti. There are a few bison…read moresitting beside the road, but not enough energetic ones for that road-crossing experience. Still a cool sighting nonetheless. They just lying there in the sun peacefully, watching drivers pass by. It's a pleasant drive between Mud Volcano and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
