He was way too young. One thing I found was how much he impacted so many people. The funeral home was packed w/friends & family attending the funeral. This funeral home operates in a very questionable manner. They have a link to buy a tree or a grove of trees in lieu of flowers. Naturally this is a very nice gesture as flowers die but when I asked & numerous other people asked who was providing the trees & where the trees were being planted the owner of Benson could not provide INFORMATION on who was providing the trees or where the groves were to be planted? Hmmmm soof fishy to me that the owner of the nursing home has no information on who or where the trees are coming from or where they're being planted? They were suppose to provide a live stream of the service for guests that were out of town or the country & couldn't make the service. The live stream stopped part way through the service so many of the people who couldn't attend the service missed it. No refund or partial refund was given. As soon as the service was over they were hustling people out of the funeral home. Uhhh nothing like letting a grieving family mourn their loss. My sister in law went into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat & they had everything wrapped up & she was told she couldn't take anymore food (WTF?). In their haste to get out of the funeral home they collected all the cards off of the flowers & brought them to the back. We had NO IDEA who gave the flowers or if any of the cards were missing or if there was any money or checks inside the envelopes so it made it difficult to properly thank the individuals. I'm not saying they did but it's very odd that they rushed the end of a somber event & took everything in the back, property that doesn't belong to them. Just a poorly run funeral home that really lacks compassion for a grieving family. We had many guests from out of state & a few friends from other countries that came to pay their respects for my nephew. I have never experienced the lack of compassion or been rushed to leave that this funeral home displayed or some of the practices that they have. This funeral home leaves a lot to be desired.

My wife received the call about her brother's demise at 3:00AM from the Chicago police department. We live out-of-state and following the direction of the police to call a funeral home was overwhelming not knowing of any funeral homes. I won't go into detail about my first attempt in complying with the police request. It was dreadful and useless. The next attempt was a call to Casey Rios and Brian Koskiewicz answered the phone, it was 3:30 AM now. Brian immediately relieved our concerns and gave guidance, explained the process and committed to working with the police, county coroner and our family. Thank you, Brian! Upon our arrival at Casey Rios Funeral Home in Chicago, Hilda Rios and Leandra Lee couldn't have been more understanding and helpful. They were available around-the-clock to provide answers to all our questions. Every detail facilitating the arrangements unfolded in compliance with the state rules, in agreeable, compassionate conversations. Leandra went out of her way to get the necessary documents ahead of the normal processing time, knowing we had limited days to complete the activity. Our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude is offered to all, during our time of grief.

The antiquated look is gone, and I was pleasantly surprised that it had been upgraded. I mean, come on, funeral homes can be dark and not the type of place you would consider beautiful, but I will say it has been upgraded all the way. From the entrance all the way to the backdrop of where your loved one will be resting for viewing purposes. Even the cafeteria is upgraded and bright. Something that was needed for many years. My coworker was waked here, and it was a beautiful service in so many ways. Although a sad occasion, the fact that they could make it so beautiful made it the right place for her family to bring her last days on earth to be seen in. I am highly impressed with what was done here. Although my workers and I came for a somber moment, we are grateful once again and for having so much parking in the yard and across the street.

My wife passed away recently and her Father, Mother and Brother passed away in the mid 1980's. Kornick did the original memorials. I needed a headstone that matched the other 3 and I also needed a family marker carved with a name and design added to it. I stressed to Eric everything needed to match. The granite was special order and Eric took personal charge of my orders. He worked with me personally and sent me drawings which we revised and sent back and forth. Finally he sent me a pix of the family marker and it was an identical match. He went to the cemetary and took pictures along the way. Finally the head stone was finished and laid and he sent me more pictures. I felt confident of completion with Eric working with me. He sent documents along the way double and triple checking everything. It still a terrible time for me but Kornick Monuments and Eric Sommerfield has made my life a little easier.
