Although, my intention is not to talk poorly of other funeral home, many left us feeling helpless due to pricing and limited option because they charged for EVERYTHING. From the moment our family walked in, Stuart made us feel comfortable and extended his condolences for our loss. We didn't feel as though we were just another opportunity to make a sale. Stuart and Laura took care of everything, and by I mean everything they did just that. They helped us save money by educating us with options and choices, and providing us with a beautiful funeral for our Father. The staff was friendly and compassionate to our loved ones. The funeral home was clean, offered privacy since it only handled one funeral at a time, and accommodated all of friends and family. I honestly do not write reviews, and felt Benson Family funeral home truly deserved 5 stars. Thank you Stuart and Laura.

He was way too young. One thing I found was how much he impacted so many people. The funeral home was packed w/friends & family attending the funeral. This funeral home operates in a very questionable manner. They have a link to buy a tree or a grove of trees in lieu of flowers. Naturally this is a very nice gesture as flowers die but when I asked & numerous other people asked who was providing the trees & where the trees were being planted the owner of Benson could not provide INFORMATION on who was providing the trees or where the groves were to be planted? Hmmmm soof fishy to me that the owner of the nursing home has no information on who or where the trees are coming from or where they're being planted? They were suppose to provide a live stream of the service for guests that were out of town or the country & couldn't make the service. The live stream stopped part way through the service so many of the people who couldn't attend the service missed it. No refund or partial refund was given. As soon as the service was over they were hustling people out of the funeral home. Uhhh nothing like letting a grieving family mourn their loss. My sister in law went into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat & they had everything wrapped up & she was told she couldn't take anymore food (WTF?). In their haste to get out of the funeral home they collected all the cards off of the flowers & brought them to the back. We had NO IDEA who gave the flowers or if any of the cards were missing or if there was any money or checks inside the envelopes so it made it difficult to properly thank the individuals. I'm not saying they did but it's very odd that they rushed the end of a somber event & took everything in the back, property that doesn't belong to them. Just a poorly run funeral home that really lacks compassion for a grieving family. We had many guests from out of state & a few friends from other countries that came to pay their respects for my nephew. I have never experienced the lack of compassion or been rushed to leave that this funeral home displayed or some of the practices that they have. This funeral home leaves a lot to be desired.

He asked if there was particular music my deceased wife enjoyed, to which I replied, the Bonnie Raitt & John Prine version of "Angel from Montgomery." The fact that they asked this question led me to believe that we had chosen wisely. We then had Brooke Benjamin serve as Memorial Celebrant for a Celebration of the Life of Kitty at Chicago Botanic Garden. She met with the family in one extensive 2-hour session that included the daughters, myself, the deceased's brother and sister, asking us questions about our beloved's childhood, family life, hobbies, education, political activism, etc. Even though Brooke had never met my wife, she really extracted her essence.... so much so that 10 people (of the 150 in attendance) asked me "Who was Kitty's friend who ran the ceremony?" Short of resurrecting the dead, the celebration simply could not have been better. Kitty is now in our niche in Graceland Cemetery. Brooke was also very accommodating in allowing us to design our own memorial cards--we fell behind a bit in planning the cards, but things came together at the last minute. If you are looking for funeral directors who present you with a set of options in understandable, plain-English, then Inclusive Funeral Care is for you. Brooke and Russ are really excellent people. They were never heavy handed, allowing us to choose the format of the program. When they offered suggestions we choose not to follow (e.g. having live musicians), there was never any sign of disappointment. I just can not find the words to express how grateful I am to Russ and Brooke at Inclusive Funeral Care.

That was when I first learned what a columbarium is (a place for cremains to be placed). Most often these are outdoor resting places, but this indoor one has a large chapel-like area inside. There are benches near the wall niches for one to visit their loved ones. Bohemian National Cemetery is a major graveyard in the city. Its origins lie in discrimination. After the Great Fire, a woman who was a member of Chicago's Bohemian community was refused burial at one of the Catholic cemeteries. Bohemian in the 19th century did not have the same meaning it has in 2022; the area once considered Bohemia is now Czechia. Thousands of members of this immigrant community worked to establish the cemetery, which saw its first burial in 1877. Bohemian National Cemetery is not affiliated with a specific religion. Upon arrival at this cemetery, you'll see one of its most unique features: The funeral bell that still hangs within the stone cemetery gate. Every other funeral bell in a Chicago cemetery has been removed and/or replaced. I'm not sure, however, if it still tolls when a funeral procession passes through the cemetery. There are several sculptures throughout the cemetery by the artist Albin Polasek. Amongst them is The Pilgrim, just in front of one of the family tombs, and Mother, which is directly in front of the columbarium. I was surprised to find the Beyond the Vines is really a wild monument. Made to replicate the outfield wall at Wrigley Field, major Cubs fans can be interred in this outdoor columbarium. Ivy covers the wall, and there are stadium seats on the west side of the monument for people when visiting. Lastly, this cemetery is home to a memorial for the victims of the Eastland disaster. In 1915, the Eastland was docked and ready to set off for the annual picnic of a local electric company. The ship never left the dock; rather, it capsized where it was docked near Clark Street. 844 people lost their life--and amongst those, 22 full families perished. On the 100th anniversary of this tragedy a memorial was unveiled to those who died that day. Bohemian cemetery is certainly historical and has some very interesting monuments and sculptures, and is a must-visit for any taphophile. However, it's a bit unkempt in some areas, and rumor has it they don't allow tours through here any longer because someone on a prior tour stepped into a dip and hurt themselves. So if you do visit, be careful.

The next attempt was a call to Casey Rios and Brian Koskiewicz answered the phone, it was 3:30 AM now. They were available around-the-clock to provide answers to all our questions. Every detail facilitating the arrangements unfolded in compliance with the state rules, in agreeable, compassionate conversations. Leandra went out of her way to get the necessary documents ahead of the normal processing time, knowing we had limited days to complete the activity. Our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude is offered to all, during our time of grief.

I have been coming here for many years, it used to go by "another" name but they have upgraded…read moresince then. The brightness and absolute cleanliness here is what was needed. The antiquated look is gone, and I was pleasantly surprised that it had been upgraded. I mean, come on, funeral homes can be dark and not the type of place you would consider beautiful, but I will say it has been upgraded all the way. From the entrance all the way to the backdrop of where your loved one will be resting for viewing purposes. Even the cafeteria is upgraded and bright. Something that was needed for many years. My coworker was waked here, and it was a beautiful service in so many ways. Although a sad occasion, the fact that they could make it so beautiful made it the right place for her family to bring her last days on earth to be seen in. I am highly impressed with what was done here. Although my workers and I came for a somber moment, we are grateful once again and for having so much parking in the yard and across the street.

A few forgotten stones covered in vines and some surrounded by bushes. The Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery was next door and very over grown. We weren't able to go inside.
