My sister called this place for pricing and info as our mom is very sick. Left a voicemail too. No response at all.

I never imagined the day would come that I would need to write a review for a funeral home due to…read morethe passing of my Father. Living in the far North side of Chicago you are left with many options, and big name choices. Although, my intention is not to talk poorly of other funeral home, many left us feeling helpless due to pricing and limited option because they charged for EVERYTHING. From the moment our family walked in, Stuart made us feel comfortable and extended his condolences for our loss. We didn't feel as though we were just another opportunity to make a sale. Stuart and Laura took care of everything, and by I mean everything they did just that. They helped us save money by educating us with options and choices, and providing us with a beautiful funeral for our Father. The staff was friendly and compassionate to our loved ones. The funeral home was clean, offered privacy since it only handled one funeral at a time, and accommodated all of friends and family. I honestly do not write reviews, and felt Benson Family funeral home truly deserved 5 stars. Thank you Stuart and Laura.

We were rushed to start the service and basically kicked out at the end. The director seemed she had something better to get to on a Saturday night than helping the family mourn the sudden loss of a loved one. Not to mention they upsold us on a live stream video service. When we asked about how good their internet was, they ignored us saying it was the best, yet the live stream buffered then stopped minutes in to the service, so over seas and out of town family who could not make it couldn't even watch. They refused to take it off the bill as they "still performed the service of videoing the funeral," but the video quality would have been better on an iPhone. ALSO they had an option on their obituary page to donate a tree in memory of the deceased, but could not tell us where the money was going, to what group, where the trees would be planted, NOTHING. We highly suspect they pocketed the money. Many people donated money to the trees, when they couldn't provide documentation of where the money was going, we asked them to take that option down and they said they didn't know how, then days later "figured it out." Seems like they are highly mismanaged and care more about the money they make and doing the bare minimum than actually being shepherds and partners to the family going through an unbelievably and unimaginably hard time. Please choose somewhere else for your loved ones.

This was just before smart phones were out so I used a phone book and Theis Gorski was the one place that answered and said they'd send someone over. If I remember right a guy named Steve (with loads of dandruff on his dark suit) showed up. I remember it being a father/son business and my dealing were with the father, again I think his name was Shawn. He was very nice and knew nothing about how to go about things. He was patient and calm which help me with my grief. My mom was to sent outta state to be buried by her mother out East. They made all arrangements. They made my look wonderful. If I'm still in Cho when I die I hope to go this place. Couldn't have asked for nicer ppl. All places like this I'm assuming are nice but possibly not...I just don't know. It might be petty but I took out 1 star bc when I saw my mom there was a visible hole in the side of her neck and that memory has always stayed with me Overall I WOULD recommend this place....hope the same ppl are still working here.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, and during our visit, workers were actively planting new greenery. It was wonderful to see so much care being given to the landscape. This is far more than a cemetery. It is also an arboretum filled with mature trees, winding paths, impressive monuments, and extraordinary architecture. Pick up a map and give yourself plenty of time to explore. There is a great deal of Chicago history resting here, and nearly every turn reveals another beautiful memorial or quiet place for reflection. As always, remember that this is an active cemetery and treat the grounds and their residents with respect. I arrived carrying my finest crystal ball, intending to conduct a discreet communion with the departed. Unfortunately, before I could summon even the faintest apparition, a large crow descended from an oak tree, seized the crystal ball, and vanished into the canopy. I waited beneath the tree for nearly an hour, demanding the immediate return of my enchanted property. The crow eventually came back--not with the crystal ball, but with a Chicago-style hot dog. It contained sport peppers and not a drop of ketchup, confirming that the bird was unquestionably a local. Although the offering was delicious, it was not a fair exchange. My crystal ball remains somewhere among the branches, presumably being used by a council of crows to predict where tourists will drop their lunches. Graceland Cemetery is serene, historic, beautifully maintained, and absolutely worth visiting. I will return to continue my paranormal investigation--this time carrying a bird-proof crystal ball and perhaps a small bag of french fries for negotiation. Five stars for the cemetery. One star for the thieving crow.
