Probably some of the worst Chinese food I've had. Although I am comparing it to real Chinese food and not whatever this is supposed to be. Think sweetened catsup. We had a raw tuna appetizer, which was bland, small, no sesame oil...jalapeno poppers which was under cooked and soft and mushy with no real flavor. It was spicy. We had the sweet and sour eggplant which was mushy and not sour. The pad thai which was pink. I've had a lot of Pad Thai in my time, and it wasn't pink. And it had no flavor. The only good thing about it was there was a lot of chicken and the chicken was very tender. We spent 50 bucks for a lunch that was just bad. After coming here a couple more times after the first, I've ordered some different dishes that actually all turned out to be quite similar. The vegetables are the same in a lot of the dishes (carrots, green stuff, mini corn) so the variety in flavors really depends on the sauce of the plate and nothing more. I made a huge mistake of ordering steamed "dim sum" and potstickers and they were absolutely horrible. Mushy and flavorless, you're better off buying frozen from the grocery store and making them yourself! The only reason why I didn't give it a lower rating is because it's dirt cheap and there are huge portions. But... quality over quantity, right? I probably won't come back here. read more

Heavy on meat, extremely light on vegetables. It was sad seeing the quality on this restaurant plummet. They kept cutting the cost by eliminating vegetables. As they reduced the amount of vegetables in all of their dishes, the quality of their food reduced along with it. But they didn't lower the price as they lowered their own food costs. Where to start. Well, we've been here several times now and while there are things I like overall the more I visit the lower my opinion gets despite my hopes for the opposite. Service has been poor every time we've visited. This last visit was by far the worst. Upon our arrival the two servers at the cash register looked at us but didn't acknowledge us in any way - then ran off to the back of the restaurant leaving us waiting with no greeting. Eventually one came back and seated us. Once we were seated our drink order was taken quickly...but that was the last thing done quickly by the wait staff. Despite there only being two of us our food arrived several minutes apart and at the end of the meal it was a long wait for the waiter to bring our bill and then even longer for him to bring back my card. He walked past our table no less than 3 times with our receipt before finally tossing it on the table without even slowing as he headed back to the kitchen area. The interior is very contemporary and nice, it's a new building so that's no big surprise. It does seem well maintained inside but some of the design elements are starting to show wear already despite the restaurant not even being a year old yet - so I'm not expecting it to stay very nice very long. Now as for what really matters. The food. The bento box for lunch is a pretty good deal but the entree portion is very small except for the sushi option. The california roll is very small you get 4 pieces and they're usuall no more than 3/4" around. I finally ordered a roll by itself (Alaskan roll) to see if they were any more impressive when served by themselves - but even by itself the roll was fairly disappointing in size for it's price. The Chinese food seems pretty good. Not quite fast food quality but also not quite up to the quality of a good sit down Chinese restaurant. But for the price it seems fair. The Sushi on the other hand has completely failed to impress me on every visit. The rice has almost no flavor and seems more like plain long grain white rice than real sushi rice. The fish seems fresh but no where near as good as at other sushi places even here in Yuma. For a cheap lunch the bento box gives quite a bit of food and variety for the money and the Chinese offerings aren't bad. But I think I'm done giving their sushi a chance as it's underwhelmed me each visit and failed to improve on repeat visits. read more

Every time we come in they are quick to seat us. So far everything I've tried here was really great. I love their orange chicken it isn't your run of the mill sauce. My wife and I just ordered take out from Asian Star. I also just threw away $24.85 cents worth of take out. We are so disappointed, So much that I just did 2 Jagr shots to make sure the alcohol kills any bacteria that may have been on our plates and in our mouths. I sit here typing as my wife is eating a bowl of Special K with chocolate chunks for dinner. It is quite unfortunate since we have had some great food from there before. I had even taken my wife there for her Birthday as requested. Today was not a good day for me to start reviewing all the places we frequent. Here's how it went down! I call and order Pork Lo Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Boneless Pork Spare Ribs. They told me 10 minutes and I was shocked and should have know that it wasn't going to be fresh or made to order. Well, I arrive 15 minutes later paid my $24.85 and headed back to the house. I was shocked to see the bottom of the bag soaked with grease. I had not seen that anytime we ordered takeout before. After examining all our containers to see if something has spilled we figured there's no way that amount of grease came from something we ordered. After opening our food containers we found the Spare Ribs hard as rock and almost black like Beef Jerky, Lo Mein soaked in grease and Sweet and Sour Chicken was water logged with grease. Then we strained approximately a 1/4 cup of grease off the boneless ribs. I guess since they were closing up we just got the old food in the bottoms of the containers. I now have regrets for sending so many people there. I was hoping to have a nice meal and watch a movie and it ended before it even began. If you go to Asian Star eat during busy hours and eat at the restaurant so you can send back items that could make you sick. I will be going back to have a word with the manager to try to salvage the relationship that has been soaked in grease. God Speed if you get takeout on a holiday at end of shift. Visited during the lunch hour, food wasnt great. I ordered the pad thai plate that comes with rice and soup. The pad thai I was just sweet no peanuts crushed on top, not served with lime, there was no depth to flavors in my opinion. I wish I would've taken pictures if the food. I had the pho soup. I'm from San Diego and they have so many great places for pho. I decided to try it in Yuma and show my family what it's about. This is the only place that sold it. I liked it. I was hankering for some Asian food for long so decided to give this place a try. Ordered two lunch specials because was not sure of size and who doesn't like leftovers right? Anyways I ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce and the Thai chicken curry, this came with veg fried rice and a serving each of wanton and hot and sour soup. Now the food was ready when j got there and the lady was very nice. Food was well packaged and the serving size was good too. Upon trying the food the quality of food was also ok to good. So why the two stars, the food had no taste or at least it was nothing true to the Asian food it was trying to be. And I am Asian having lived all over the world and have a pretty good idea what each of that dish should be like. Which also got me thinking that maybe they do this to appease the local clientele or maybe they are not very good cooks. Which is a shame because the quality size and price is good enough to warrant a return and I would like to but that taste leaves sooooo much to be desired. This restaurant has the best Chinese food! It's been a long time since our Family has had food this good. We are staying at an RV park in Yuma, waiting for our truck to get fixed. I am happy to say that I found this restaurant while traveling in Yuma. The sushi and wonton soup was delicious. Due to the review on Yelp about the Tom Ka Soup, I asked if I could try a taste of it. The server said no. I chose not to order a $6.95 bowl of soup if I couldn't get a taste it (it had a bad review a year ago.) I chose to get the fried bananas to go and they were delicious, not pretty, but really yummy. I would go back tomorrow if I could, it was that good. read more
