I've framed several projects over the years with Matt and Andrea, though mostly by my own design of simple white matts and black frames. This project was different. I had two deeply meaningful pieces to me that I wanted framed. One is a large early foray into paint and paper by an artist who normally works in large metal sculptures, and another is a photograph of the Temple from my first year attending burning man. Matt was a very thoughtful partner in exploring the different framing options and supporting me in finding what felt truest to the art. For the first, we ended up picking a metal frame and floating the piece on top of the matt to showcase it best. And they even reached out to the frame maker to use the type of for the frame that we use on playa. For the second, we found a frame and matt combination that echoed the texture and spirit of the dust. It was really wonderful to feel supported in the exploration to really feel excited and aligned with how the framing and art were complementing each other. And I'm so happy seeing the art hanging in my home every day! And I'm so grateful that Matt came to hang the large piece for me! There's no way I could have done anywhere near as good a job and might have hurt myself if I had tried. I had an excellent experience working with Andrea and Matt, especially as a first-time professional framing customer. I wanted to frame a large, narrow, oversized print (over 50"). Andrea was extremely welcoming and patiently guided me through considerations I hadn't realized (like frame depth relative to my print's scale, the best frame type to ensure it wouldn't overload our thin walls, etc.). She and Matt were very knowledgeable about the tradeoffs between different acrylic and frame options and helped make suggestions that balanced budget and final quality. Andrea and Matthew have now framed 5 of my paintings, and I'm certain there isn't a better experience, service, and "product" than what they offer. Andrea has a great eye for color and style, and provides excellent advice. Since day 1 I've felt comfortable enough to go in a different direction than her suggestions, but for the most recent 3 I've used her suggestions and have loved the final product. Everything about the experience is 5 stars. Most recently I got this 6' x 4' painting framed at their studio (see attached image). Yes, 6 feet by 4 feet! It took some time but we walked through over 20 frame options, with different colors for each style. They were very patient, and of course it came out flawless, and for a small fee Matt even delivered it himself! I will continue traveling and buying paintings from wherever I go. In March of 2022, I made the decision to pull the trigger on having custom frames done for a series of limited edition prints I had been collecting from the same artist. After reading numerous yelp reviews for framing stores in the area, I decided visit Aspect, and once I walked into the store and met Andrea and Matt, I decided to give them a try. They were incredibly patient with me as we went through the process of picking out a single style of frame that would compliment my, at the time six, pieces of art by the same artist. They have an incredible variety of frames in all sorts of widths, finishes, materials, texture- if you can dream it- they just might have it. I appreciated that they were very upfront during the selection process about potential supply chain issues, as well as stock - given that I was having my art framed in waves, and I also ended up collecting an additional five prints so this was important because I really wanted the frames to be consistent by artist. Framing all of those pieces took about a year. Recently I purchased my first original artwork pieces, and I knew I was taking it to Andrea and Matt. Because it was a new artist we found ourselves revisiting the question of frames. They were just as patient again with me this time incorporating my feedback as they came up with additional suggestions. Picking up my artwork today, I was again impressed with the quality of the work as well as the way they accommodated my vague request to put a postcard the artist had sent me with the name of each piece on the back, they did this by putting a clear pocket on the back of each frame to hold the postcard. So if you are looking to frame some art, I cannot recommend them enough. They take such care with the handling of your art- I usually don't trust myself so I just bring over the mail tube as soon as its delivered to my house straight to the shop. My bf and I had a blanket knitted by his great-great-grandmother that had unfortunately been ruined by a dog. I took it around to several knitting specialists and they said there was nothing they could do. The first time I went to Aspect Custom Framing & Gallery, it was for music, wine, and brie--they had Powell St. John (the lyricist who wrote Bye, Bye Baby for Janis Joplin) playing a show and his artwork on display. I remembered the gallery to be very impressive--a lot of intense artwork, a lot of frames to choose from, and Lon was very nice, showing people around the art pieces. He treated everyone well who came to the show. No one was left out of the experience. I thought, what an ultra-cool place. Wow, rock poster artist signing books. Cool stuff on display everywhere. The best brie I've had in a long time. When I needed framing done for my two prized paintings -- "Kuan Yin and her Dragon" and "Sugar Babies" (done by Misty Benson), I remembered Aspect. I didn't think about another framing place because I had such a great first impression of Aspect. Why go anywhere else? The second time I went to Aspect, it was for framing (they didn't have brie). Lon took his time and was patient helping me pick the perfect frames for my pieces--frames that highlighted my art pieces -- I could imagine from the corner piece of the frame that it would bring the colors out and added something extra to the overall painting--Lon was the one who picked those pieces to show me. To top it off, Aspect was reasonable. Today I went to pick up my long awaited (if you could count 2 weeks as being a long time) paintings and they were stunning in their frames, more stunning than I had thought before. The frames brought out the color and texture of the paintings. I wouldn't have known that these would make the paintings "snap." Aspect added so much more beauty to already gorgeous paintings. Lon and his staff did such a great job that the paintings are hanging in the living room next to the oil painting of my husband's father (from World War II) and an old photograph of his grandmother. I bought a beautiful print from Goodwill and it sat in my apartment collecting dust for over a year before I finally made my way over to Aspect! I've never gotten anything professionally framed before so I was totally clueless. It's definitely not a cheap thing to do but I thought that the folks at Aspect really took time with me and helped me pick out a frame and a matte that I liked while being aware that I was price sensitive (again, the print was less than 5 bucks from goodwill and I was paying $150 to frame it!). The end product was beautiful and took a little over two weeks to frame. It's hanging in my office and I've gotten several compliments already. I will definitely be bringing in my degrees for framing next! Only suggestion would be changing the hours to staying open later at least one weekday. They close at 5 during the week so it's hard to come in if you're working. They are also closed Sunday's which leaves Saturday as really the only time to drop off or pick up items. When my parents escaped Laos, my mother trekked through the jungle for 25 days with me in her belly. My grandma never got the opportunity to meet me and so she made it a point to make me an authentic Khmu shirt. It's a lovely story. Andrea and Matt have just made the most amazing gallery wall for us! We had a pretty complicated, eclectic wall to put together and decided we needed help. Their frame selections are amazing, the wall turned out so much better than I could have conceived on my own. Andrea chose frames for us that I never would have chosen on my own, and I truly love every one of them. She has an amazing eye! They both took a full 90 minutes with our consult which was also a huge luxury. As a right brain person, I am fascinated watching Andrea's mind work with color and texture, she takes it all in and explains the 'why' of her recommendations which I also found super helpful and very reassuring. Finally, she has an hourly fee but we were so glad to pay her to not only bring our artwork over, but to spend another hour on arrangement and where we might hang other artwork as well. I think this service is a MUST and probably most people don't understand the importance of having a professional actually see your space. Excellent work; kind people Andrea and Matt just framed several pieces for me. They were very patient with me as we picked out the matting, frame, and glass, even though I kept them past closing! I needed the work done by a certain date that was a bit sooner than they usually give, and they accommodated me. One of the pieces was fairly tricky, too, because it's a piece of silk. The finished pieces are gorgeous! They look very classy and expensive, and I'm glad I went to the trouble and expense of having this professionally done. I can add the Andrea and Matt are also very nice people. A traffic accident happened outside the building while I was picking up my pieces, and the car that did it drove off. Matt and Andrea were very supportive of the driver. To top it off, they have a friendly dog who will keep a respectful distance until you show you like dogs, at which point he will lap up the attention and ask for more :) I'll definitely come back here the next time I need something framed. read more

Lon @ Aspect Framing is absolutely teriffic! I had a cracked mirror needing replacement, for my new baby's nursery. I brought the mirror to Aspect initally b/c of the excellent Yelp reviews and because he had the best pricing. When I dropped the mirror off, Lon asked me when I was due (in 2 weeks), and he told me it normally takes a couple of weeks, but he'd do his best to get it turned around within a week, so I wouldn't have to worry about labor and getting the mirror back. The very next day, Lon called to tell me the mirror was done and I could pick it up. Now that is what I call amazing customer service. And his pricing was half the price of the competitive quotes I got from Cheap Pete's and another spot on Valencia St! I definitely am planning to bring all of my future framing needs to Lon. Aspect custom framing handled an extraordinarily big job for me in a very short time frame. We're talking about 4 custom canvas stretches in over 6 foot sizes and 9 more stretches at about 4 foot sizes. All had mirrored edges and Lon got the stuff absolutely NAILED for my show in very short order. Let me also say that it's damn refreshing to work with a calm, no-nonsense kind of person who is a true craftsman. Down to earth, knows his biz and does his job elegantly and beautifully. I was thrilled and everyone who saw my show was shocked at the quality of the framing. I can't recommend his work highly enough and will be seeking his services again whenever I need quality framing done. Earlier today I even took my self-portrait there to be framed for a birthday for my father (he just turned 60!). I trust these guys -- they're not as expensive as other framers and they have a startling selection of frames to choose from. You can get antique and flowery to sleek and sci-fi -- the choice is yours. The owner, Lon, himself helped me out today, and he had some great ideas as far as the matting and framing went. A really nice guy, and a great place for your framing needs. It is also a gallery representing local artists, and the work that I've seen there is well above your average "little gallery" shows that I usually see here and there. The french woman who helped me had some great advice for me on what my options were. She helped me stay in my price range, yet was also able to make me happy in keeping the style I was going for. First of all, let me give a little background about myself. I am not an artist, photographer, or anything professional that has to do with this particular field. Thus, I have no clue what is going on when it comes to custom framing whatsoever. I did however, need an autograph picture framed professionally because I figured that it would not do it any justice without one. After looking around, I noticed that Aspect Framing is around my old neighborhood, and went to check it out. Lon (the owner/framing professional), is a super nice guy, and very professional. I told him what I wanted framed, and he gave me a few suggestions on what might work really well with the picture. He definitely has an eye for these things. I just picked up my picture today, and I am being totally honest when I say that with the frame, it looks 100 times better than it did before. When I gave it to Lon, it was in a page sleeve, and now with the frame, it looks just spectacular. We had a painting my wife's brother gave us to frame and had gone to a few other stores but had trouble finding someone to take some time to help us and pick the best design for the painting. We kind of randomly ended up at Aspect because it was on the way to somewhere else but were extremely happy with the attention and time that the owner gave us to help us work out what the right frame for the painting should be.
