I would give no stars if that was an option. I patronized this office for three years. For two of those years, they did not have a dental hygienist so I didn't have any appointments. I returned a few weeks ago after I was notified that they did finally hire one. I arrived at the office and was immediately told by the front desk to sit down and shut up (no, she didn't actually say that but the intent and the attitude were there) and she would get to me in her own good time. When I was finally called, she was much more concerned about how I was going to pay for my care than what care I actually needed. It became obvious very quickly that this place was all about the money, how to separate me, and everyone else who walks in their door, from their hard earned money. In January 2025, I had x-rays done, then returned for a cleaning in February. I never got my cleaning. Instead, the hygienist took a cursory look around my mouth, feigned as though she was doing the standard periodontal probing, calling out five and higher most of the time. I've had this done before and never anything more than three. I started smelling a rat. The hygienist then declared that I needed a "deep cleaning' and that it would cost $3,500 for two visits to complete it. Now I was very suspicious. While still sitting in their office, I found another local dentist (Gagnon Dentistry in Farmingdale, ME) online and made an appointment with them. They completed the same procedure a month later and found no serious issues. I also got my teeth cleaned, unlike Aspen. In addition, when I asked for my dental x-rays from Aspen, they printed the ones from 2021, not the most current ones I got this year, 2025. What they gve me was useless to my new dentist. Thanks Aspen! My guess is that they couldn't find a dental hygienist who would act as dishonestly as they wanted. I'm also guessing the hygienist is working on commission. Bottom line: Stay away, stay away, stay away!!!!! This place is all about the money...taking yours!! read more

I had a disappointing experience with Aspen dentist in Augusta. The front desk office policies seem designed to cost patients more money and the staff appears incompetent. They refuse to use electronic methods for communication or x-rays claiming this is how they got a computer virus which is not accurate. When I requested copies of my records x-rays and radiographs, they would only provide printed versions. This format is unusable for my new dentist and meaning I will have to pay for these services again. Overall I will never go back and I recommend that no one else goes there either, with their unhelpful staff and outdated practices. read more

Horrible front office staff!! It appears this office clearly targets patients who dare to question their invoices. I arrived for my appointment and was advised there was a charge where I expected none, as my insurance covers preventive. I knew it wasn't going to be good when I overheard her say "When they don't want to pay, I just sit them on the couch." I was called to the back and found that $50 of the $130 was for toothpaste that can be pruchased elsewhere for less than $20. I agreed to pay the remainder and paid for my visit. I was asked why I questioned the charges and treatment. When I explained, I was told "I'm this close to canceling your appointment." The office manager then persuaded Christine the hygienist into stating she was uncomfortable with treating me. The front desk then insisted on refunding the charge and canceled my appointment. read more

i don't know if they are mean to their hygienists or something. but for 3 years I've been trying to get a dental cleaning I've been scheduled for an appointment so many times. 3 times this year alone they call and reschedule the appointment about a week before cause all their hygenists quit. This is an ongoing problem the most recent delay is 5 months away. just learn to treat your staff better so you can offer a simple service any dental office does. But that seems impossible since this has been ongoing for at least 3 years read more

Complete extraction, all teeth, done in late December 2023, worst experience of my life. Dentist caused so much pain I ended up in the Maine General emergency room, heart attack, then sent to Portland, Maine Health. Had to have oral surgeon fix the mess left by so called dentist, 2 surgeries that day, heart stents due to heart attack from traumatic pain. Finally got dentures in June, 2024, ill fitting from the start and was told I could have only 1 adjustment per year at no charge, went in for no charge adjustment today, May 2025 and was told my dentures were worn out. Less than 1 year old dentures worn out?! Was told I purchased best quality dentures available, why are they worn out after less than one year? They want in excess of $500 to replace 4 "teeth" or over $2500 for one bottom row of denture. Terrible, terrible experience, start to finish. I'd like to rate as less than zero stars. I do not recommend Aspen Dental to anyone. read more

I'm not someone who posts about bad service, but people need to know. For the past couple of years I've been going to Aspen Dental in Augusta, which hasn't been awful until recently. 1. They were over an hour late to my appointment, told me they couldn't see me and still asked for a co-pay that day. 2. I've been calling Aspen dental to get seen for a small cavity for the past few months or so and no one has returned my calls. I finally reached someone in the office today and they said they were unable to pull up any of my client files, because there was a cyber attack. A CYBER ATTACK on all data! They should be calling their patients to warn them that their private information has been taken. This is a huge privacy concern and I will not be going back. read more

I would give a 0 if I could. 3 times in a row our cleaning apts have been canceled because they can not keep a hygienist. 1.5 years of them canceling. Now we have to start over at a different Aspen office. They couldn't even find our last records. And they can never remember that I am the legal guardian of my son who is autistic and epileptic. Sometimes refusing to speak with me. And they have the guardianship paperwork on file. I've never been so disapointed in a dentists office. read more

I went in for a "new patient exam" and was greeted just fine by the women at the front desk. There was some discussion about me doing the x-rays and after some clarification we went back to the room for the dentist to see me. He (the dentist) walked right past me in the room without looking at me, never said a word, no greeting and gave off a general vibe that he hated his job, his life and me. It was the most uncomfortable dental visit of my life. When he spoke he wouldn't look at me and would not answer my questions. I seriously could not understand this visit. It was like a twilight zone episode with this guy. I left with more questions than I had before. I am more than happy to take my business elsewhere and I would not recommend this dental office at all to anyone for any reason unless you wish to be treated like a total piece of crap. read more

Outstanding customer service from entire staff. I recently moved to the area, and was concerned when looking for a new dentist. I am very pleased with the dentist and the hygienist. My family has been going here for many years now and had fairly good experience until my daughter had fillings with Dr. Elwell. He was absolutely horrible to her. He gave her way too much Novicane and was physically rough with her head and nose. So bad that she came out crying. I didn't realize that i needed to go into the room to keep my 17 yo safe from the dentist! And the management just chuckled at me when i went to them and to my husband on the phone. Called to find out if I could get panorex images to take with me to Costa Rica for implants. Was honest up front the purpose of the appointment but was told it would be free. Got to appt. and again discussed reason for visit. Now they say no, I cannot have free xrays. It will cost $215 despite what I was told on the phone. I asked what's to stop someone from doing the free new patient visit and asking for the xrays. I was told I would not be allowed to have them as I hadn't paid for them and they owned them. I'm sure this is not true and that I would be allowed to pay for copying them. Crooks. read more

This dental office has been a very pleasant surprise! I hate going to the dentist- went to another one in Augusta (Evergreen Dental)- they were awful. So I chose to go to Aspen Dental- my first visit (consultation) and xrays were free, as I have no dental insurance, they went over all of the fees up front with me to form a plan. I had one visit since to get a big cavity filled- Dr. Banda is wonderful- very patient- it takes alot more novacaine to numb me up- he did a superior job! I was even 15 minutes early for my appointment and they took me right in! All the staff there are very welcoming and pleasant. I have been to another dental franchise in the past and had a terrible experience so I was hesitant to go to Aspen- but they proved me wrong! I am so glad I chose Aspen Dental. They are professional, yet very warm and pleasant. I highly recommend them! read more

Staff was not professional and had absolutely no empathy. I was under the impression(based on info they gave) that I was there for a cleaning. They only did X-rays and told me to come back another day for a cleaning, they never clean teeth on first visit. Information is have liked to have known prior to arriving. First woman was very rude(I'm being nice) and I was happy to be paired with someone else for my cleaning. They have been late every time so far as well, by more than 15 min. read more

Rude staff, ignorant dentists, what else can I say. Oh, how about the fact that they charged me twice for my sons anesthesia for his tooth removal. I have dual dental insurance and the cost for anesthesia was out of pocket, so they decide to double the fee and lied that they had to give him another dose after 15 minutes. The entire visit was less than 15 minutes from the time we got there to the time I was called into the room to watch him wake up. There is no way he had two doses and I had to pay for it myself. How about them informing me my daughter needed 7 fillings when she has perfect teeth. I waited a year before getting the fillings because she had braces. I chose a new private practice and wow, zero cavities...a year after Aspen said she has 7! Do not trust this place. ANY ASPEN! They only want money and will ruin your teeth filling them for no reason. read more
