Review for Aspen Dental - Chipman Road, Lee's Summit I had dentures made here in September 2025 and paid in full at that time. Last week, one of the front teeth fell out, and I was absolutely horrified. I contacted the office the next day to ask about the warranty or any type of coverage for the work, and was told they would not fix or help in any way unless I paid an additional $600 -- despite the fact that I have a receipt showing a zero balance and have never received a bill from them. I also have dental insurance, but the office informed me that this repair would not be covered. I was very disappointed with the lack of accountability and customer service. I believe a business should stand behind its work, especially when a product fails so soon after being completed. I'm sharing my experience to help others make an informed decision. Office experience is HORRIBLE! Very unprofessional, very rude. Office staff act like high school kids in a clique. Big turnover with the doctor, the assistants, and office staff. Every 3-6 months expect a totally new staff and the office manager, I believe her name is Karen(how ironic!) but I've never seen a more unprofessional, uneducated Manager, a warm body. Not sure about the other locations, I've heard some good things about Aspen Dental as a whole but this location in Lee's Summit should be closed down. Gives the company a bad name!! I'd give them one star for insurance and financials for sure, due to false charges and continuous software glitches. I've been getting random charges ranging from $100 - $500 - so be careful. As far as services, the technicians are amazing and provide great service. The dentist at this location is pretty arrogant and childish, and extremely persuasive. If there was genuinely a lower rating than 1 star, I would love to leave it. In terms of billing, management, policy, and overseeing dentists, this company is abysmal to put it nicely. If you choose Aspen, an exciting future of long wait times, overpriced services, surprise billing, and "modified" increased bills from services that occurred 2+ years ago await you. If you're lucky, they'll even attempt to send you to collections and give you the privilege of waiting on hold for 1+ hrs if you try to dispute it Only upside is their hygienist does a great job, hopefully she has found employment at a better company since the last time I visited. read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE THE WORST DO NOT GO HERE. They told my grandmother that she had 2 cavities and gum disease. They said it would be $5000 and were trying to force her on a payment plan. We took her to another dental office and got a second opinion. They said she had no cavities and absolutely no gum disease. They are lying horrible people that are taking advantage of the elderly. Scheduling an appt was easy, the facility was organized, but the suction tubes were not clean and they grossly overcharge for services.

I purchased Aspen Dental's Comfy Lite series of dentures for $3,000 in Aug. of 2020. Then dentures were a great fit; comfortable, secure, and warrantied for seven years. In Nov. 2023 I realized that I was having difficulty in chewing my food, and realized that the back teeth had worn so significantly that they needed to be replaced. Aspen Dental of Lee's Summit Missour, owned by Dr. Joseph Formanek, agreed to replace a total of eight teeth, four per row, on the dentures under the warranty. The process, beginning in December of 2023 took two weeks, and I was without dentures for that period of time. Upon picking up my dentures, I noted that they had been over polished to the point that they no longer appeared natural, and the base of the teeth, where they were fixed into the dentures, were visible. I tried to explain to the technician my concerns, but their solution was to polish (more like use a Dremel tool) to put grooves into the gum line of the dentures to make them once again appear more natural. This made the material even thinner. Two weeks later, a tooth snapped off from the lower denture due to the dentures now being fragile because they removed too much material. Once again, they made the repair under warranty, but once again, they did not listen to my concerns. So what they did was add more material around the teeth on the dentures, which then caused the dentures to really look bad, and to feel bulky. One of the dentists there finally took a look at my dentures, and agreed that the repairs had not been done correctly, and agreed to remake the dentures. After going through all of the appointments necessary for making a new set of dentures, the day arrived to pick up the new dentures. To say I was disappointed would be a huge understatement. The new dentures were the lowest grade of dentures available; they did not appear at all natural like the $3,000 Comfy Lite's I had originally purchased in 2020, they had fewer teeth per row (only 12 teeth rather than 14 teeth), and they didn't even fit properly. At this point, I was three months into trying to get what should have been a simple warranty repair/replacement done. Aspen Dental of Lee's Summit, Missouri, owned by Dr. Joseph Formanek, failed miserably at repairing my $3,000 dentures. And then, when given the opportunity to replace the dentures that they, by their own admission, ruined, they once again failed in spectacular fashion. At this point I asked that they simply refund half the amount I originally paid for the $3,000 dentures, which I felt was fair given I had gotten roughly half the seven year warranty worth of use from the dentures. Aspen Dental of Lee's Summit, Missour owned by Dr. Joseph Formanek refused to refund any money, asking instead that they be allowed to remake the dentures again! My time is worth something, yeah? At what point is Dr. Joseph Formanek's office required to refund my money, rather than continue to fail in meeting their obligations to honor Aspen Dental's warranty? Aspen Dental corporate actually has no real say over their own warranty because the offices are independentally owned and operated. It is the dentist who owns that Aspen Dental office who ultimately makes he decision. It took four months to get to the point of even offering to remake the substandard dentures that they made to replace the top of the line Comfy Lite dentures I paid $3,000 for, and I refused to allow them to waste any more of my time, and have since begun the process of new dentures elsewhere, which is what I would recommend anyone else considering dentures do. read more

Wish i could give less than 1 star. I made an appointment for a cleaning, I get there, they take a bunch of xrays, the dentist poked my teeth a bit (he seemed nice). Then finally after all the photos, they tell me that NOW i can make an appointment for cleaning. I was confused, i thought this was the cleaning appointment. I have never in my life gone to the dentist twice for imaging and cleaning. Then when i sat down with finance, they wanted to charge me $564 for a cleaning! I had an initial consultation in January 2020. They told me I needed a special cleaning and tried to sell me a $200 toothbrush. They had no cleaning appointments until March. My first cleaning appointment was rescheduled, then when I show up for the appointment, they tell me they had been trying to contact me because the hygienist was not there. I had no emails, text messages or voicemails from them. Pandemic hits so I decide to reschedule at the Independence location once things opened back up. First appointment was 7/29, was rescheduled until 8/12 because they didn't have a hygienist, rescheduled again for 8/28 because the hygienist had a family emergency. I found a neighborhood dentist who was honest, reasonable and didn't try to sell me anything. I will never ever patronize Aspen Dental again. Terrible service! read more

Went on July 2022, Lee's Summit, MO. Got in quick. X-rays were quick. WAITED FOR DENTIST IN A CHAIR FOR AN HOUR. Dentist spent 5 minutes w/me explanning his recommendations. Dentist left. Sat in chair another 15 minutes. Then, Walked to Office Managers Office. 2 Women in office. 1 woman in corner in a chair staring at me. Never was explained to me who she was. The other I assume an office manager. Office manager stated to me she was giving me a coupon today for my new treatment plan. "The Cost will be $4000". Never got an explanation or even a Printed Copy of The Treatment Plan. As a Retired citizen & Veteran, (without dental insurance) I Ran, NOT Walked, out of there. NOT Recommending. read more

I went there for a simple cleaning and they took all of these x-rays and told me I needed this extensive below the gum cleaning that would cost me $600 dollars AFTER insurance. I then attempted to retrieve my x-rays to forward to a real dentist and they were a pain to deal with. NEVER go to this scam of dentistry. I went to the Lee's summit location approx 5 months ago. I had an extraction and was fitted for an upper and lower partial. I paid 1300 for both, the top one was fine but the bottom was horrible ! It didn't fit and at one point it twisted and jabbed into my gum, I bit down an it snapped. I spoke with the office manager and explained what happened. she said she would refund my money and use my previous scan to make another partial that would clip around another tooth for stability. that was 3 months ago and I have yet to be credited for the partial, picked up a new partial or even received a call back. worst service ever. I did call the customer service number the person I talked to was very helpful and was able to look at my records and let me know when my partials will be in. To be honest I was shocked on the date it will be over two months I've been waiting. But at least he was more helpful then forever changing office staff. read more

Office and dental staff was initially friendly. Came in for initial visit, was told I needed a filling replaced and SRP. The dentist suggested replacing the filling that day and SRP (~$1200 after insurance) to be conducted in the coming weeks. I had plans for a zoo trip and the weather was extremely nice so asked to be scheduled for the filling replacement the next day. I stated I would consult with the wife/think about the SRP. I showed up the next day at my scheduled appointment time; was pulled into a sales room asked what my decision was on the SRP and when I stated I was going to forgo it I was immediately told the dentist was not comfortable fixing my filling. At which time I was asked again whether I was going to opt for the SRP, I declined and asked for a refund. Fleecing/pressure sales seem to be what this practice is about. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been in tooth pain for 2 days. He got an emergency appt. with Aspen. When he arrived they did not treat his appointment as an emergency. They were unable to do a route canal even though their page clear says they can. My husband was given some Tylenol 3, a referral and 300 bill and we have insurance. We are extremely disappointed. He is still in pain and we have to find another dentist. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

I do not recommend going here, the dental hygienist rushed through my cleaning and she seemed very stressed. It is impossible to schedule an appointment over the phone or ask any questions because they don't answer the phones. I have left 4 voice messages that have never been returned. DO NOT GO HERE! Their main advertising point is that the first visit/ consultation thing is free, absolutely free. I chipped my tooth and don't have insurance so I went there since it was free, to get it checked out and see how much they would charge to fix it. They didnt ask me if I wanted any extra treatments that would cost extra, and didnt weven tell me what they were doing at all, they just kinda started shoving stuff in my mouth without telling me anything. They take you into this office, after highly marketing you for very expensive bi monthly gum treatments, and tell you they wont do anything you need done to your teeth without the gum treatment, so they told me fixing 1 chipped tooth would be about $3000, so I wasnt interested and left, waste of my time but it was free right? No big harm. But then I got a bill for everything they did without even telling me what they were doing, so I called, and asked about how the first visit was supposed to be free, and she said that it got sent out by accident that mistake happens all the time, don't worry about it. So I was fine, cool. Then I got the bill like 3 more times, and every time I called, they said the same thing, not to worry about it, the visit was free I wasn't supposed to get the bill. And the last time I called the guy said he took me off the mailing list, so I thought I was done with this, and now i have a final notice bill, for the same amount and this one says that if I dont pay I will get debt collectors and lawyers sent my way. I am changing jobs and needed to get me and the kids into a dentist before my insurance changed. I could not get into my regular dentist so I made me and both kids' appointments here. My daughters' bill was over $1,050 for 4 fillings and a cleaning. I wanted to get my routine cleaning done and they refused to clean my teeth unless I had X-rays. I told them I had X-rays within the last year and I only wanted a cleaning. They told me the dentist would not know what kind of cleaning to do without x-rays. ( Rediculous) Of course, he wouldn't make as much money. Since when did it become acceptable for dentist to force you to get X-rays. My son has an appointment tomorrow. Curious how they treat him. I left and on my way out the office staff said " I hope you have a good day" Really--- just poor service all the way around. I had lost a filling in one tooth so I looked for a dentist who could get me in on my day off. After a internet search I found Aspen Dental in Lee's Summit they had a morning spot open so I went to get it fixed. After checking my tooth I was told to wait in a waiting room they callled the "Green Room" where I sat for another 30 min then they took me to a office that resembled a car dealerships finance office. A employee came in and said for cleaning, gum treatment and fillings it would be $5000+ I laughed and left with no repair to the tooth I came in for. read more

This place is a SCAM!! The first appt we meet with the financial person, Sean, I paid in full for a crown and a special deep cleaning, that included a follow-up visit for the crown. All appts were scheduled at that time, in advance, including the follow-up. The appt when they were supposed to put in the crown had to be re-scheduled because they broke the crown. EVERY TIME I go they try to charge more money, I have to tell them that it was all paid for with Sean, then all the sudden I don't owe anything. Today at the follow-up appt they tried to charge me $150, Sean wasn't in yet, so I had to just leave. I will never do business with them again. read more

I wish I would have read the reviews before visiting this location. I was treated 30 days ago for an infection in my gums. Dr. Brianna Wiepen was the dentist I saw. She gave me antibiotics and 12 tramadol for the pain. She referred me to get a root canal on a tooth that had a root years ago. I did not go to the appointment due to my interest in dentures as a long term plan, and it didn't make sense to repair the tooth to later pull it. 30 days later I got another infection in my gums. I went in to see Dr. Wiepen again. I explained to her why I did not get the root canal and she said great then we can come up with another plan. We agreed. She put me on antibiotics again but refused to give me anything to relieve the pain. Her comment was that she was not going to keep giving me pain meds since I did not get the root canal. This lady spoke to me like I was some junkie trying to get pain meds out of her. She had no consideration for my pain. I paid $43.00 for her to look at my gums and order antibiotics. She actually suggested that I reschedule with her for additional work. I have excellent insurance and the ability to pay. But I will never give Dr. Wiepen another penny of it and I suggest you do the same. She is the kind of person that is so busy thinking about what she is going to say next that she is not listening. It's sad that we go to these people for help and leave feeling like my issue is not important or resolved. They get one star due to the assistant that helps you prior to seeing the dentist. Dr, Wiepen could learn alot from her but she is pretty set in her jerkish ways. read more

I have been putting off going to the dentist for a little over a year due to the fact that I am petrified of Dentists and unnecessary procedure, unnecessary pain, long wait times, only to be told "you need this and this and 14 more procedures." I went in this morning with my anxiety through the roof. I was called right back. I was shaking while they took xrays. After the hygienist left the room I seriously considered bolting. Before I could this very YOUNG woman walks in and starts talking to me like weve been friends for 10 years. I even had to ask if she was the Doctor. Being in the medical field I know how confusing some physicians can be with the way they speak to their patients. Sometimes they forget the average person has no idea the verbiage they are using. Dr Drew was not this way at all. She sat down so that we could have a conversation face to face and didnt stand over me to intimidate me. She explained what was absolutely critical to address immediately and then gave me the option of a few other ''problem areas''.............SHE GAVE ME OPTIONS. By no means did she TELL me what I had to do. She respected patient rights and made me feel like a real person that didnt want to be there anyway. After all that I sat down with the financial advisor (who was just as great) and we scheduled a follow up. I will never go in search of a different dentist again. I will follow her (one step away from stalking) to any practice she decides to go. She and her entire staff were amazing and I have an all new perspective on Dentistry. Dr. Drew and her staff, at the Lee's Summit, MO location are phenomenal! Dr. Drew is extremely skilled, patient, knowledgeable and kind. I recently had many extractions and I had minimal bleeding/swelling, which attests to her great skills/work! She truly is the best and I have high anxiety and did(past tense, now) have a fear of dentist. Traci the hygienist, is a gem, so knowledgeable and always goes the extra mile to ensure my comfort and explains things. Renee is a doll, she is so caring and a pleasure! Shawn was so helpful when I initially called in. He was so kind and explained options; very detailed. I really cannot say enough great things about this amazing team. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They have poor communication among the staff and like to give you the run around and a lot of excuses. I met with them on 11/1. They told me it'd be done by the next Friday. On Wed 11/6, we didn't like the way the dentures looked, it was too gummy and we wanted them whiter. So we understood it'd be another week or so for the changes. On 11/13, 15 minutes before our previously scheduled time, we received a call from someone (still don't know who) saying that the appt was cancelled because the dentures weren't ready. Made an appt for Mon 11/18 instead. I was very patient with them. Sat 11/16, we spoke with Sean who gave us the run around, admitted he didn't know what was wrong or what happened but that he'd get to the bottom of this. He told us that we'd be compensated for the delay and the mistake. We went in on 11/18, Sean apologized, gave us bullshit lines and told us that we'd be charged 1955.10 instead of the original amount that I had already paid in full of 2478. He told us it'd take 5-10 business days to get the refund. He told us that a tech had made the gums darker, and that we'd have to start of the process all over again. The impressions, wax try, everything. It didn't make any sense to me because they should've still had all of that, even if the messed up pair of dentures were just darker gums. Something didn't seem right. Sean was trying (hard) to not give us the real answers and continued to just sugarcoat everything. He told us he'd have everything expedited. We went in for the wax tray 11/20. We liked it and picked up the dentures on 11/22. On 11/22, the original dentist made some comments about why we hadn't received the dentures yet and how she was surprised it wasn't done yet. I'm guessing the dental assistant, made a stupid comment saying that our schedule is why it was taking so long. Just an ignorant comment. I had to quickly correct her and said it was because they messed it up. She didn't apologize. I called into the office 12/6 and spoke to someone in financials about the situation, and how I hadn't received the refund yet. She didn't know what I was talking about and I asked to speak with Sean, who wasn't in the office. She actually even told me that I have a balance on my account of 455.10. She told me I OWED them 455.10. I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. I had to quickly correct her and explain the situation again. Why wasn't there a record of any of these conversations??? I called back 12/9 and finally able to speak with Sean. He apologized, gave me bullshit lines again, tried to give a lot of excuses. And then he told me the amount I'd be charged was 2240. I had to quickly correct him and say that that wasn't the amount we agreed upon. I never asked for a discount, I never asked for a certain amount. This was all Sean. He pushed back a little initially until I told him I have a printed receipt of the total amount being 1955.10. That's when he backtracked. He told me it'd be 5 to 10 business days. I told him I was told this before and it hasn't happened yet. He kept saying "its the system, it's the system." I asked how he can guarantee the system will work this time around and he kept giving excuses. I continued to be patient. I waited the full 5 to 10 days. By 12/23, I still hadn't gotten my refund. I spoke to Bethany, who transferred me to Sean who told me that he moved it out of his hands and transferred me back to Bethany. Bethany told me that her manager was diligently working on it. What exactly are they working on for 1 whole month? How hard is it to give someone money back after their mistake? I was rushed off the phone by Bethany, who really didn't want to hear anything I was saying. She was rude. I went into the Lee's Summit office on Nov 1. Was told I'd get a refund Nov 18. Picked up the dentures on Nov 22. Didn't get a refund until Dec 28! I wanted to take my dad to get his dentures done because the actual product was good, but all this headache and run around is just not worth it. read more
