best dentist ever had four cavities and had to have three teeth pulled never had a better experience in my life at a dentist office

In December, I called to confirm an upcoming appointment only to be told that I had been marked as a "no call/no show" and that the appointment was canceled. This was surprising, as I have always communicated with the office when rescheduling. In September, I proactively rescheduled my Motto aligner checkup because I was traveling to California for my father's 70th birthday celebration. That call was handled without issue. Unexpectedly, my trip resulted in my family and me contracting COVID-19. We were quarantined for over a week and unable to attend the scheduled celebration. Upon returning home, I notified the office that I was still ill and could not attend the appointment. Again, I was told there was no problem and that I could call later to reschedule. However, when I contacted the office in late November, I encountered extremely rude service, was informed that I had been added to a "do not schedule" list, and was accused of missing multiple appointments, including alleged "no call/no shows." This was incorrect, and despite my attempts to clarify the situation and explain that I rescheduled responsibly, I was dismissed and told I could only request same-day appointments. Today, January 13th, I called to confirm a 7:00 AM appointment, as I never received a reminder. I was informed that it had once again been canceled for the same inaccurate reason. When I asked what missed appointments were being counted against me, the responses were inconsistent and unprofessional. I was told first that I had missed five appointments, then "several," and then six -- in a condescending tone. When I pressed for clarification, the branch manager hung up on me. I want to be clear: * I have never missed or rescheduled any of my gum-treatment appointments, all of which were scheduled at 7:00 AM. * The only appointments ever rescheduled were Motto aligner checkups -- and I always called in advance. * It is impossible to have six no-call/no-show events when I have not even had six total Motto appointments at this location. * The office has canceled my appointments without notifying me and has now blocked me from continuing care due to inaccurate records. I am currently dealing with gum issues that require ongoing treatment, and I have completed my Motto aligners. I now need follow-up care and information regarding next steps, including retainers. It is unacceptable that my dental health has been jeopardized due to inaccurate scheduling records, improper documentation, and disrespectful treatment by office staff and management. read more

They called and said I would receive the refund balance now that the insurance paid out. I received $19 of the original $29 which was posted to my card. I can't say that this is the way that all others who are in network with my insurance handle payments at all. read more

3 years ago I gave a glowing review of Machesney Park Aspen Dental. That was before I really dealt with them. When I went there the first time, I had an infection in my mouth from a broke tooth. They got me in within hours! The dentist at the time told me that I needed all my teeth pulled and dentures. Immediately! 2 days later it happened. Since then I have had temporary dentures and then permanent dentures. None of them fit right. I go back at least once a month the get adjusted. A few months ago the new staff dentist said the teeth in the dentures were too big for my mouth. That's why I had never been able to close my lips. I got another new set. A few adjustments later, I started experiencing TMJ. I didn't get to see the new dentist, only the tech. Today I called in tears, I hurt so bad. They don't have any openings. Of course not, if I were a new patient, I'd get right in. They don't make any more money off of me anymore. Even though 3 years ago I paid them $10,000 for extraction and dentures. They promise you will be thrilled with your dentures, they promise same day appointments and walk ins. They lie! Makes me wonder if they lied about me needing my teeth pulled. read more

I went for a dental exam and was told that I my old crowns needed to be replaced. Since they had been done some 20 years earlier, that seemed reasonable, so I proceeded. The xrays were a concern because the girl repeatedly left the thyroid protecting heavy collar on the chair or not properly covering the thyroid. They did a cleaning and measured for the crowns, then removed the old crowns. As the dr began putting in the new crowns, it became more and more clear there was a problem with competency. Either he measured incorrectly or had no idea how to install crowns. In fact at two spots, the the final installation was so out of alignment that I pointed it out, and my concerns were dismissed, I was then given the name of another oral surgeon for gum cleaning, which I thought should have been done before crown replacement. That office waiting are had columns and walls of art. The estimate was for $18,000.00 with 50% down prior to the work. I saw my regular orthodontist the next day. He agreed the gum surgery should have been done before crown work. He also said it was the worst crown replacement he had ever seen and anticipated long time issues. That was a decade ago. I have been to his office twice a year and my dentist twice a year since then. I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and began treatment 4 years later. My teeth have shifted and the original crown misalignment has worsened substantially With considerable pain. This week I see my regular orthodontist and fully expect that the crowns will need to be removed. Hope they can be replaced with dentures, but since there is no normal mouth to make dental impressions, I await to hear his recommendations. I regret having ever walked into Aspen Dental for a dental cleaning and check up. They did nothing right from xrays to crown replacement, and only led to disfiguring my mouth. read more

I was told that I required a specific treatment, but something about their recommendation didn't sit right with me. Feeling uncertain, I decided to seek a second opinion, and to my relief, the second dentist confirmed that I didn't need the treatment at all. It quickly became apparent to me that this company was more focused on making money than on providing genuine care. They also pressured me into purchasing X-rays that I didn't need. After all, I had already had an X-ray done just last year. When I informed the receptionist about my decision to skip the X-ray, she proceeded to discuss me with her coworker in an unprofessional manner, as if I weren't even there. To make matters worse, the hygienist who attended to me had a notably poor attitude, which added to my overall disappointment with my experience. Anyway, don't go here!!! Horrible experience, horrible dentist!!!! My dentures have never fit right no matter how many adjustments they make. They visually are not made correctly. The dentist told me, "These are better than what you had" but I could eat with my old teeth and have NEVER been able to eat food with these dentures. Asked for my money back like they state they offer and they refused because I "purchased over 60 days ago" but they're guarantee states "money back refund must be requested within 90 days of final denture insert" which I do not even have my final dentures for another few weeks but just wanted out of this company BS because of the manners of the dentist and staff. The office person I talked to was laughing at me when I was telling her I hadn't been able to eat since I got these. Please go elsewhere for your dentures and dental needs!!!!!!! read more

Unfortunately there isn't a zero star option. As anyone can see, all my other reviews for businesses are positive ones so it takes a lot for me to post something unfavorable but I've had enough. After signing me up for a payment plan based on what my insurance "covered," I found out months later that Aspen never reached out to my insurance to see what was covered so the quoted number was totally made up.. my insurance covered next to nothing which of course I'm on the hook for. They've continued to send me new bills totaling thousands of dollars on top of the payment plan I had agreed to. When I called the office where I had service, they say the person who set me up isn't there anymore so they can't help. A year after my appointments, I'm continuing to get random bills even though I'm now on TWO payment plans. Aspen, please don't bother responding to this message with "we'll forward this to our team" to portray a desire to help.. I've talked ad nauseam to your office and the billing number you give out (the "dedicated" customer service gentleman hung up on me today when I politely asked to speak to his superior after he wouldn't give me any straight answers) but the bills for services I'm already paying for keep coming. I would recommend getting dental work done in hell before recommending this place. read more

My darling wife who is fighting Cancer , was asked to come in earlier @ 8am Wich she could not make and was rudely hung up on and then was called to come in @ 1 pm instead of 2pm Wich she agreed to. We arrived @ 12:55 pm with nobody in waiting room ,and as people proceed to enter they took 6 patient's before taking my darling wife after we complained, @1:30 pm . I went to Aspen because there was a special to get a dental exam for $19. I was horrified when they told me that I had periodontal disease amd needed a deep cleaning which they were going to charge me over $3000 for. They said that if I did not get this deep cleaning that my teeth would fall out. They said they would finance this for me. Terrified as I was, I decided to get a second opinion because my gums seemed fine and never bleed when I brush. I went to a clinic here in the Rockford area and was told my gums are great and I only had one small cavity. I was then contacted by Aspen wanting to resolve my BILLING ISSUES....as if. This was not due yo a billing issue rather than an outright lie in order to get money from me for a service which was NEVER needed!!! read more

Worst business model. Refused to perform work that was needed right away without first performing cleaning. Great way to eat up your insurance benefits, before slamming you for more money to actually treat what you went in there for. The Dr, and asst. business manager was kind and professional. I would like to say that I had very high hopes when I first went in to Aspen dental but making the appointment went flawlessly what they don't tell you is what you get there there's going to be a tablet handed you with all these questions on it I got no heads up nor did I get any kind of information regarding my medication that I'm taking and that's just the beginning we're talking or I'm talking about the one in machesney Park The office has a lot of great people working in it The two that are questionable are a dentist that looks like he should still be in high school and an office manager that if you're not careful she will not tell you everything Make sure you read the fine print and you ask questions like the shade of dentures that you're going to get she will not tell you that it's different for every package and once she charges your card trust me it's only a matter of time until you start getting charged regardless whether the work is completed or not I would not recommend this office to anyone and I am sad to say because there are a lot of good people working in it but the two major people should be gone from that office and if you have a problem good luck cuz I'm trying to get mind solved and I still haven't gotten anyone from corporate to call me read more

I needed 5 extractions, a new top denture and a bottom denture. Aspen Dental was recommended to me by a friend. After the initial visit, I was scheduled for oral surgery on the 9th of August. To say the least, I was a little nervous about the procedure. Dr. Mantinaos was to perform the procedure. He was excellent. He explained everything he was going to do and he made sure that I was not going to feel and pain. And, I did not experience any pain during the entire procedure. Millie was assisting Dr Manitinaos. She was wonderful. She eased my nervousness and reassured me that all was going well. I have named her Millie the Aspen Angel. I can't praise her enough. I would definitely recommend the Machesney Park Aspen Office to anyone and everyone. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and courteous. A 10-star establishment. read more

12/21 visit enticed by there $19 free xray and exam and went far beyond any technical dentistry exam & xray I have ever had. Professional service and courteous staff with a very clean and private facility. BUT.... my original visit was to have a oral surgeon and/or periodontist consult and estimate (which was noted to Aspen before my appt) on an implant and crown procedure recommended by my DDS. After about an half hour of several xrays, Dr Patel entered to let me know of his findings. Explained in detail the procedure and of exactly what was needed but has to wait and watch how it all heals after the tooth is removed. My extensive research before hand included the internet, my DDS and several other friends who all have had a similar operation. Dr Patel would not give me an estimate on this but was able to let me know that the 3 molars on the upper all needed crowns as they will crack soon. Now he's got my attention! " The final estimate from their finance manager for the 3 crowns was just under $8800. Will also remove the infected tooth for an additional $284. Still no mention of the implant estimate. Oh yea, I also have moderate periodontal disease but was never thoroughly discussed as the crown thing dominated the conversation. Also the reason for no estimate appears to be that the periodontist (not Dr Patel) would not be up this way again for a month due to he tours the other franchises moving from one to another to another. Really not worth the $19 trip but they were polite and timely. Its a franchise folks and they are in business to make money. Story ends with another local dental office with an "Affordable" estimate & procedure for my implant. read more

The dentist told me I needed two wisdom teeth out. I scheduled an appointment and thought everything was fine. When I called back for another reason, I was told that my appointment was made in error and the doctor isn't there on that day or any day I was available. In fact he's only there on one day a month! The office manager basically told me to go somewhere else. She didn't try to help or keep my business. I'm very busy and had to schedule that day to make it work and now I have to wait to get them out. The prices are crazy here and the customer service is terrible. I am going on my second year at Aspen Dental, Machesney Park, IL and this is my second review. Still happy. Dr. Patel just did a one year checkup on a partial I had done. He also filled a couple of cavities. He was worried that I was in pain while giving my the numbing shot before cavities. I told him, but I don't feel anything Dr. Patel. He is good. Kim, the hygienist, is working on helping me get my gums in better shape. She did such an awesome job cleaning my teeth. The coffee stains were gone! Also recommended a water pic and electric toothbrush. Wow! What a difference they make in my mouth. My gums are looking better and so are my teeth. So glad I made those purchases. Kim has also treated my gums and is keeping an eye on me. I am thankful. I would recommend Aspen Dental. Sorry there are some people out there that do not feel the same way. read more

This place is horrific. I was here 5 hours as a new patient waiting from room to room to get x-rays, etc. I actually took a nap in the chair waiting for the dentist. Billing is a nightmare. They swindle you in every way possible. I'm trying to recover some funds. I would NEVER go here again. They already were billing me for an exam by the time they told me they couldn't clean my teeth. Then wouldn't give me a detailed list for what insurance covered but billed everything possible Good God, unless you have dentures or tons of money to give to the corporate "ethical" procedures of Aspen Dental please find a family practice that will actually help you. By the way, the manager Jennifer is a horrible in handling situations, like a temperamental child. Terrible people skills, can't handle situations without being an agitated cray. read more

This is hands down the worst dental office I have ever been to. They will push a multitude of extra procedures that you will be required to pay out of pocket. They refused my annual cleaning because I wouldn't pay $86 for their additional deep cleaning. On my first visit their x-ray machine broke down so I was required to schedule a second appointment. As I arrived for my second visit they attempted to charge me for the second half of my x-rays because they already billed my insurance after the first appointment. They also double charged my girlfriend for the same procedure and when the insurance refused the pay for the double charge they sent us a bill. Their office rarely answered the phone and when they did they were rude and unhelpful. After they threatened to send it to collections the insurance company helped us out and contacted Aspen directly on our behalf. Aspen now owes us a credit. Do not waste your time or money with Aspen, they do not care about you, they just want your money. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if i could. I have amazing dental insurance that covers a majority of all cost if the work being done is necessary. This place not only picked my pocket book every time i went in but also had no reaaon why . When they said i was being charged 203.00 more dollars after already paying 1155.00 , when i asked why, i was answered with an "i dont know" .. ha ok im not giving you more money if you dont know! Long story short this place does not care about you , or your teeth . You can not expect me to feel comfortable when you want to pull 12 teeth out of a 17 year olds mouth just to put implants in . Went in to get a cavity filled and was told I had periodontal disease and a few other major problems; the staff was absolutely horrible at presenting these 'issues' and made me feel like I was the worst case they've seen even though I know I take good care of my teeth. Something didn't seem right so I went for two different second opinions and it's safe to say Aspen Dental is extremely sub par. Both of the other dentists said they have no clue where they would have seen such severe issues they claimed to see. Either they need to go back to school or wanted to make a lot of money. Definitely won't be going back here again ! read more

I went in on Christmas Eve because my molar broke. My dentist of 15 years was closed . After a bunch of xrays and an exam by hygienist I was told my tooth and roots were dead and they had to pull the tooth. He also went on to tell me I had 10 cavities and periodontal disease. I couldn't leave fast enough! Today I went to my dentist and all I need was a filling. Thank God I trust my gut. No gum disease and no other cavities. STAY AWAY! read more

Do not go here! I made an appointment to go here as my insurance really only gave me this option and got in within a couple days....great! My first visit they took 20+ xrays and then told me I had 10 cavities and gingivitis. With insurance this was going to cost me nearly $1000 for everything out of my pocket. After thinking about it some more and reading reviews of this happening to other people here, I got a second opinion and found out I indeed DO NOT have gingivitis or cavities. I could have just gone with their opinion and had unnecessary work done that would have costed a small fortune for absolutely no reason. They also pad their reviews online by asking you to give them a 5 star review in exchange for a chance to be entered in a drawing. I would avoid this place if at all possible. read more

Actually had to go to the ER as Dr. Patel would not give me anything stronger than ibuprofen. The ER doctor saw the pain and inflammation I had, gave me an IV antibiotic as well as draining some of the abscess area. Felt instant relief. Its unreal that an ER doctor did more for me than the actual dentist. And after reading about others awful experiences, I am definitely NOT returning to Aspen Dental. My mouth and my wallet are too important to me. read more

Dr Patel robbed me of my molar. I came in because I have changed locations from Chicago and he informed me that it would take $11,000 to fix my teeth, including a $1400 cleaning. He recommended taking out two of my upper left molars, and doing implants, AND THEY ONLY HAVE AN ORAL SURGEON THERE ONCE A MONTH!! So in a few weeks my molar started to hurt, and I was in Chicago, I could not see my regular dentist( a very fine dentist) so I took my referral over to the oral surgeon who informed me that I should try and save the other molar. So $900 later and a bone graft for the implant, I thought I was set. UNTIL, I went to my regular dentist where he told me he could have saved my molar with a root canal, AND that the other molar only HAD A ONE SURFACE CAVITY IN IT. NO WAY did the second molar have to come out! Why would they do that, I asked and my dentist said, because it is EASIER for them, and also they get more money that way! Then I got a cleaning from the hygienist who has done cleaning for 30 years, she informed me I did not need the planning of four quadrants (for $1400), all I needed was two cleanings which cost $150 each, one with a machine, the other by hand. Now I am going to get a bridge, much cheaper than the implants, and fix the one surface cavity on my molar. Get my other cleaning and fix some more one and two surface cavities, for approx $150 a cavity. THIS SAME DOCTOR, PATEL WANTED TO TAKE OUT SEVEN OF MY GIRL FRIENDS TEETH!! My regular dentist took out two of hers last week!! HE SAID IN NO WAY POSSIBLE SHOULD THE OTHERS COME OUT!! No way, very slight one surface cavities. Now I do not have my own tooth and I will gladly make the drive to Chicago to see my regular dentist to get my bridge. Do not go to Dr Patel, he will steal your real teeth. read more

I was introduced to this staff and office through a Veterans Care Day. I was able to get an appointment to get a desperately needed cleaning. My hygienist was wonderful. I entered a drawing for a door prize and I won a WaterPik, something I've wanted and needed for a long time. I came back for a full exam and all of the people who worked with me were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all my questions and concerns. They also helped me explore several options for my future dental care needs. I would fully recommend this office to anyone looking for caring staff and quality dental work! read more

Long story short. Pretty competitive pricing structure, Staff nice, Busy place set up for volume. Had some pretty extensive bridge work done. Front tooth enamel broke off within first year. Was told not much can do... #9 incisor. As front as you can get. This place would probably be good as an emergency backup place. Not really getting the vibe as a family dentist place. read more

I've been a patient for several years now, and honestly I have no complaint to make. The persons at the office are nice are courteous. The place is clean and modern. My hygienist is so gentle and efficient while cleaning my teeth. I love it! As for Dr. Patel, he does is job fine. Today, I had to deal with the office manager for future payments I have to make for a crown replacement and a night guard. I was a little apprehensive about the cost, but it turned out not to bad actually (I'm not talking about my insurance coverage). The office manager was friendly and explained things to me pretty well. I would definitely recommend this dental office if you are looking for painless (physical and financial) dental visits! read more

DO NOT GO HERE (Machesney Park, IL) They do not tell their patients anything, and one of the women at the front desk is the rudest person I've ever met in my life!!! I already paid them in full for all my treatments and I will be calling tomorrow morning for a refund of all work I haven't had yet and never stepping foot in there again! I hadn't been to a dentist in 10 years (hadn't had insurance) so I needed quite a bit of work done, the dentist verbally told me several things I needed done at my initial appointment and I then sat down with a (very nice) woman (I believe Rachel was her name) who showed me a print out of all needed work and the cost ($17,000 before insurance, $3,500 after) and I had to pay in full before I could schedule any work. First thing I had done were 3 wisdom teeth removed, the oral surgeon is only there once a month and I will say he and his assistants were extremely nice and took great care of me, he was frustrated because there was an issue with myself being heavily sedated and no one from Aspen had ever told me (it sounded like it wasn't the first time he'd had an issue with a patient not being communicatied with over an important issue by anyone from Aspen themselves). They apparently also contract out their endontist because she is there one day per month. They never called me with the ONE day they would be there in august like they said they would, so when I called them I of course got the rude woman from the front desk who said "can you come in tomorrow?" and like most employed people with a child I couldn't just come in the next day, so (since it was only 2 weeks away) I asked for the September date and she said they didn't know it yet that far out (only 2 weeks away) or when they'd know. They suggested scheduling some of my other appointments at that time like my hygiene appointment and I said I'd rather do that later and they said I couldn't get my root canals until I had that done and that it wasn't a cleaning (which I was under the impression it was just a cleaning) I don't know how they expected me to come in the next day then since they knew I hadn't had what was actually something called root scaling done which NO ONE HAD EVER TOLD ME I needed done. I then scheduled that and got off the phone as I was annoyed because the woman is beyond rude. I called back at a later day to ask what that was and why I needed it done and the rude lady at the front desk again just read off a definition from a medical dictionary or something and I wanted to know which teeth needed it, making sure it was the teeth that needed the root canals so she got the hygienist on the phone and I was told by her it was in fact the teeth that needed the root canals that needed it done which was understandable and totally fine with me then. When I came in for the root scaling appointment it was NOT those teeth!! I just got the 2 root canals done on Wednesday, the endontist (who along with her assistant were also very nice and took great care of me) asked when I was coming in next, I said Monday for 5 fillings and she said "good, the dentist can get a look at how everything is then". I just got home from my appointment for my fillings and not only did they only do 3 and I need another appointment for the other 2 (which again, they never told me), but the dentist told me to schedule my bridge work before I left. I went to schedule my bridge work and was asked when I could come in again this week, when I said I am not available anymore the rest of the week (which is true) the rude woman from the desk who I wasn't even dealing with at the time, walked over, gave me a dirty look with her hand on her hip and said (with the biggest attitude I've got from anyone) "you can't come in AT ALL this week" when I said no, because I have things like a job, a toddler, and school she said I HAD to have the bridge work the same week as the root canals and none of the multiple people I've delt with there had EVER told me. She was the person who scheduled my root canals for me and never once said one word about needing to schedule the bridge work the same week so it was 100% her fault. She was in such disbelief I couldn't come back tomorrow, Wednesday, or Thursday as if she had never heard of people having to work, care for a child, or go to school ever in her life. The dentist then came up and told me I needed to have the bridge work ASAP after the root canals even though he had also never told me before AND could have just done that instead of giving me 3 fillings. He told me I may need both of those teeth extracted now if I don't get in soon enough, which once again isn't my fault because NO ONE EVER TOLD ME!!! read more

Hygenist is congenial and polite. Doctor is always conserned about how you are feeling during the procedure. Very nice to have them as my dentist. read more
