I had the most horrible experience. I went in for a cleaning only. The dental hygienist was cleaning my tooth and removed a filling. I was then told that they are unable to repair it because it was "going to happen anyway" and I was then advised to make another appointment and to leave out embarrassed needing a filling. I then advised them that I came in without needing a filling and it was removed without my consent nor was it my fault. Aspen Dental Monroeville the. proceeded to tell me that there is no one there to do the job and they are closed while I was still sitting in there, and I refused to leave. Finally, the dentist came in, the actual doctor, to give me a filling in which I rightfully deserved. Then the dentist has the audacity to tell me that they are deciding if they are going to charge me or not when it was completely, NOT my fault. This place is supposed to be "no judgment," so I finally mustered up all my courage and went there. The doctor who saw me was extremely nice. She was young and beautiful and the type of person I would stereotypically expect to be judgmental. But, she wasn't!. (If she was, she hid it EXTREMELY well.) She was very kind and actually listened to me. I felt good about her. She talked to me about different options available, and explained them thoroughly. Then, I went to the front desk period they talked about pricing. The chosen course of action was going to be expensive. I left. I mentally weighed and juggled and considered the expense and the expected outcome. A few months later, when my insurance would cover another visit, I finally decided, yes, it was worth it. I was going to get this done. So I went back to Aspen dental. I saw the same lovely dentist and told her I was ready to do this. She said okay. I went to the front desk. The price they quoted me this time was FIVE times as much as the first! It took me months and months to decide that the first number was actually doable. This new number was out of reach. I was heartbroken. I left and never returned. Overall, this place does keep the promise of not being judgemental. (I've been to several condescending and rude dentists.) But, it is very much a business first. It is about selling and profit. The dentists might be great, but the front desk is the bulk of this business. We drove 40 minutes to the Monroeville office just for them to tell us that they could not see her, during her scheduled visit, due to machines being down. A phone call before our journey would have been sufficent. Instead, we got an extremely unhelpful, unsympathetic receptionist with no alternative route for their mistake. upon going to this "reputable establishment" I thought I would receive 4star treatment, when I in fact would rate it a two and I'm being generous. The set up for the Monroeville office was very invasive. From the area where you take x-rays to the area where you figure out your Insurance and/or payment arrangements. Both of these areas were in a wide open space. Just feet away from the waiting room. there was 0 privacy Customers could easily over hear anything that was being said. Especially in the area where they figure out your Insurance, I literally looked at a customer as I discussed what my insurance would and would not cover. The actually exam itself was rushed through. I went in to have a cleaning, but also discuss issues I was having with a tooth. The cleaning was never done. The dentist glanced at my teeth, hit it a couple times with her dentist tool, referred me to another specialist and sent me to the front to discuss payment. This location in Monroeville on William Penn Highway is despicable! I prepaid for several cavities $500. They said I had to schedule the services and just the exam was completed. I requested at the very least a teeth cleaning. They allowed me to get a cleaning (covered 100% by Insurance) and every time I scheduled the services for cavities it was canceled. After 3 months I asked for a refund. They tried to say my teeth cleaning (which they never intended on doing until i made a stink about it) was $430 and Id only be refunded $70... shout out to my insurance who got my full refund! On May 6, 2022, I was scheduled for a dental cleaning at the Aspen Dental- Monroeville location. All was well until I expressed concern over my ability to pay for an antibiotic treatment that the dental hygienist, Carrie Simmons, stated I needed due to not being seen for one year even before doing an exam. Carrie became condescending, and argumentative after I made the decision only to receive the care that my insurance would fully cover and therefore not receive the antibiotic treatment. After polishing and flossing both upper and lower sets of teeth and scaling two of my right molars she refused to complete my cleaning. This is upsetting for a number of reasons but mostly because I was left without a complete treatment and no explanation of the standard of care regarding gingivitis. She repeatedly denied my request for a manager or a dentist. When I finally got the opportunity to sit down with Sarah, who identified herself as the manager, Carrie interjected and told Sarah to not apologize to me. Admittedly, I was extremely uncomfortable and felt violated and humiliated by the way that I was treated today. Nothing was done to deescalate the situation and no one took the time to educate me. I recognize that this is not how anyone should be treated when seeking dental care anywhere. Having to go to the dentist or medical doctor is an experience that so many people dread due to fear of the unknown. Situations like the one that occurred on May 6 exacerbate this culture. I am thankful that I have the know-how to advocate for myself but there are so many people that do not. As a fourth-year medical student, I understand the importance of providing care that is compassionate and respectful of a patient's autonomy. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be something that Aspen Dental emphasizes during training or the day-to-day operation of their facilities. I did request that my insurance not be billed for my partial treatment today so as to not prohibit me from actually receiving care elsewhere. I hope that the situation is fully investigated and that this never happens to another person receiving care in an Aspen Dental facility again. I had a very bad experience with this company and this office in particular. I will start off by saying the majority of staff and manager Nicole were very nice and seemed concerned. I made an appt for a filling replacement. I was told by office and company's phone line that I would be seen for filling replacement that day and was also told pricing over phone. I took my whole day off work for this. I arrived 15 mins early for check in and was then x rayed etc. when I was finally seen by a blonde woman "whom didn't give me her name" She was rude, rough, and invasive. I felt completely "man handled" when she finished digging in my mouth she then says front will check me out. I asked her when would they start my filling replacement, she told me sometime next week, and that they never do same day appts even tho I was told they could. She also told me they wouldn't start any work until I did a cleaning. I am beyond horrified. I called corporate office and they were very nice, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get seen. I am so upset and this is such bad business. UPDATE' I spoke to Rebecca at corporate and she was very nice and understanding. She resolved this issue to the best of her ability. Started my dental work in April 2019, the plan was to remove 3 teeth make a lower partial and a full denture for the top. After being miss led about a temporary and completed denture a new upper was made. I have had it for about a month and it doesn't fit well and causes pain and discomfort in my mouth. My last visit which was August 25th a adjustment was made which didn't really do anything to takeaway the discomfort and pain. I told the dentist that I have had dentures since 1992 and these are the worst ones I've had. She left the room without saying a word. I got up and left with the same problem that I went in for. If you care about the health of your teeth avoid this Aspen Dental Monroeville location. I have gone to the Homestead location for my cleanings prior to this and the experience is 100% different. The Assistant Manager Carie and the dental hygienist Carie are both working together and running a scam. The hygienist does not introduce herself and knows nothing about billing and what is expected for your appointment. Yet she is able to immediately diagnose gingivitis after cleaning four of your teeth and being very aggressive with the brush. I use an electric brush at home and never bleed but she presses down so hard and causes trauma to your gums then turns to the computer and tells you she has to stop your cleaning and you now have gingivitis that's needs to be paid for and covered before continuing treatment. So I repeat if you are looking for a simple cleaning with an appropriate oral assessment this is not the place to go. Do NOT waste your time, energy or money on this unprofessional dentistry. Their only concern is money - even if it means your credit will end up effected. (1) They don't explain the dental line of credit they're referring to is actual credit that WILL effect your credit score by making an inquiry. (2) When you open said dental credit line they automatically charge the account (even if your appt is weeks away) & don't tell you. I ended up cancelling my appt and a few wks later received a bill from the dental credit company. I called the credit company who was very nice & said to call Aspen Dental to have them reverse the charge. (3) I did that & they said they would reverse the charge. A month later I get another bill from the dental credit company saying I owe them money & on top of that I have a $27 LATE FEE! (4) I've called Aspen Dental FOUR TIMES since last Friday (it's been 3 business days) & the office manager has still NOT bothered to return my call! Every time I call she's "in a consult". This last time I called she was "at lunch". Why she didn't call back after lunch can only be explained by this company's pure ignorance & unprofessionalism. I should NOT have to take this much time out of my day to get a charge reversed & well as the late fee paid! Scheduled an initial appointment 3 weeks ago, got there and was told by the receptionist that their computers were not working properly and the x-ray machine was down as well, so I would have to reschedule. No one bothered to call to inform me prior to my appointment time. I rescheduled with the same receptionist for an appointment that was scheduled for yesterday. My appointment time was 11:15 and I signed in at 11:23 and sat in the waiting area with 1 other person. While I sat there I heard the staff discussing details of another patient's care and their personal opinions, I guess no one educated them on HIPAA privacy regulations. After sitting for 10 minutes and listening to the receptionist complain about "tearing something in her knee while walking" she called me up to tell me that since I was late, I would have to wait. REALLY...there was only 1 person ahead of me who was called back when she called me up to "reschedule" my appointment or ask me to wait without telling me how long I would have to. I was literally 8 minutes late. I told her that I was not interested in waiting or rescheduling. Especially since clearly no patients were being seen while the dentist, hygienist and staff were all in the front reception area chitchatting and talking loud enough for other guests to hear their discussion about a particular patient and his care. My husband has been going to this office since last year for treatment (which I paid for in advance) and he has had his appointments rescheduled 3-4 times in 6 months. If it wasn't for that pre-payment and them being in the middle of his dental care plan, he would not return either. I needed an appointment for a tooth that was really hurting me. I called here because they advertised emergency services. The appointment was scheduled for four days after I called (so much for emergencies being seen right away) but I figured I could stand the toothache until then. I get to the office 25 minutes before my scheduled appointment time since I knew I would have to do new patient paperwork. 40 minutes after my scheduled time (which was 9:00AM, the first of the day)somebody finally took me back. They started with xrays, as she was doing my xrays she told me after the xrays the dr would look at them and then I would meet with the office manager to discuss the course of my treatment. I asked if they could just fix the tooth that has been bothering me and do all the rest of this at a later appointment. She told me the dr was busy and they could maybe schedule me for something later in the day to fix my tooth. I said I specifically scheduled this appointment to get this tooth fixed. She just kept telling me this is how we do it here, you have to do this first and then we can schedule something to fix the tooth that is bothering you. This is a business for profit not a caring dentist's office. Stay away. Do not expect warmth, compassion, or understanding if you go here.
