I had the best dental experience with Dr. Davies and her assistant, Naria. I had two wisdom teeth extracted during the same visit, and the entire procedure was completely pain-free. I chose to have local anesthesia and nitrous oxide, but honestly, Dr. Davies did such an excellent job with the local anesthetic that I probably could have done it with local alone. Dr. Davies communicated well throughout the procedure, which helped ease my anxiety and kept me comfortable the entire time. I was in and out of the office within 30 minutes. The overall experience was outstanding. I had to take the time to leave a review because exceptional care deserves recognition. I highly recommend Dr. Davies and her team. I have never encountered a front desk person with the rudeness, overbearing, self righteous attitude as I did with LINDA this morning! My granddaughter was to have some teeth extracted this morning. Well, this is Monday 1-6-25 the day of our beautiful snow. My granddaughter has Broad Spectrum Autism, and her anxiety level goes thru the roof. Before she would get in the car I had to call the office and ask them if her retainer should fit after and how many teeth were going to be taken out. I had already explained that it is impossible to know, but wanted to hear from their office. She was right beside me in our kitchen...after I explained why I was calling before we left, I ask if she could please tell my granddaughter what she told me, I was trying to put the call on speaker so that I could hear what was being said... the call disconnected. (Number of extractions was wrong, said 3, was to be 5). Thinking I disconnected call somehow, we left for said appt. Today is our wonderful snow storm day with all of the snow advisories. We get maybe little less than a quarter mile away from home.. roads around our home and main road we need to travel on (RT 30-West), were covered in snow...I will be 79 in about 3 months. The Monroeville office is approx 40 miles away. Some cars were sliding, so I decided to call and reschedule, as weather called for continued snow pretty much rest of the day, and it made me very nervous! Linda was very nice at this time, seemed very understanding and said "no problem under the circumstances), and rescheduled appointment later this week, of which I was surprised being no waiting. We get home I have a voice mail, plus a text asking me to call them. I did so and Linda answered the phone... oh boy... she started. Said Dr. Ichner said we will not see your granddaughter any longer. Said she told Dr Ichner that there was a question regarding a retainer and number of extractions and cancelled today's appt. (It is now 3:46 and still snowing), mainly due to questions and we had to reschedule 2 appointments prior... one she had the flu, other she was called into work during Christmas break. I said we were disconnected from our call this morning, her response was "I disconnected the call being I did not hear anything". I told her I was putting her on speaker, of which she knew. Said she told Dr Ichner about the call and questions, his decision was to cancel the appt just made and that we had to "find another oral surgeon", also said referring Doctor has been "Made Aware". We were on our way, my granddaughter had done all prep requirements, however you cannot control the snow!! DID NOT CARE. She's beyond RUDE!! After reading the reviews before I wrote this, I am convinced we are so much better off not being involved with this office and practice!! GOOD LUCK. I have never left a negative review in my life..this is a first!! I do not file law suits, however, their response makes me question maybe how many there have been?? read more

This is not a review of the doctors, but of the waiting room experience. Given the requirement that someone accompany and wait in the office while a patient has wisdom teeth removed, the waiting room experience needs some attention. Why on earth do medical practices think people in waiting rooms prefer mindless tv over silence? In this particular waiting room, we are subjected to both music and a tv playing AT THE SAME TIME! Are they trying to make people crazy? Is there a "waiting room guide book" that instructs medical office managers to avoid silence at all costs? I can't believe I'm the only person who would like to read in a waiting room. Do you ever see anyone actually watching the TV? What is the point? It would be wonderful if this mindless and annoying practice disappeared in favor of silence. PS: even the recovery room, part 2 of the waiting room experience, has "soft country" music piped through the speakers. Argh! read more

Pretty rude receptionist. If you need to reschedule, don't expect to be spoken to respectfully; don't expect any human sympathy. Maybe the doctors are great, if you ever get to see one. First appointment was five weeks out and this person just shrugged her shoulders and wouldn't look at me when I said I didn't think I could wait any other six weeks, which is the earliest she said she had. I guess she was punishing me for getting the time wrong today. read more

I had all four wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Smiga and was extremely happy with the procedure. On my initial visit, I was seen right away by the doctor who took a look at me, discussed the procedure, went through the risks involved and discussed the sedation options. Since I get a lot of the dental anxiety; I went for the option of "going to sleep" aka general anesthesia. On the day of the procedure, I was pretty nervous. I was taken back right away again and was first introduced to the nurse anesthetist, who was tremendous. He made me feel so at ease; explained what would happen with my anesthesia in detail and that I would be given intravenous sedatives right away to "take the edge off." He was right. I felt relaxed and don't remember falling asleep or any of the procedure. I woke up next to my mom with a blanket feeling I had just had the best sleep of my life. When I got home; I started noticing that my lips, tongue and chin were all completely numb. While it felt weird and made drinking difficult, it was expertly administered and did a really good job of Eliminating post op pain for almost 10 hours. I felt almost not pain whatsoever. All and all it was a great experience in which I felt I was in terrific hands the whole way. read more

I came to this practice for wisdom teeth surgery. They did a fine job with the surgery itself, but they do not respect patients' time. Appointment times mean nothing to this practice. I always schedule appointments for as early in the morning as I can so I do not have to wait. At my first appointment I was finally seen over one hour after my 9 am appointment time. I listened to my doctor talk to someone for 20 minutes outside my door about his weekend and recent vacation before he finally came in, and I did not receive any apology or explanation for the wait. I requested a different doctor to perform my surgery. The surgery was fine. I never got a confirmation or reminder call, so I called them two days before surgery to confirm. My follow up appointment was an 8:15 am appointment. I finally saw my doctor at 9:05 am. The dental assistant said they were running behind because there were only two doctors seeing patients that day. If that's the case, they shouldn't take a full slate of patients. I only scheduled this appointment the Thursday before, so they should not have taken my appointment if they were going to be short staffed. If they're an hour behind 15 minutes after opening (first appointments are at 8 I believe), I can't imagine how behind they are by afternoon. If you have unlimited time and do not work, this practice is fine. If you have life obligations that would preclude you from waiting an hour past your appointment time to even see a doctor, I would suggest you find another practice for your oral surgery needs. read more

Unfortunately Dr. Smiga is incredible rude, condescending, and seems to be in the wrong field. Doesn't care about patients and refuses to waste his time on helping anyone or being kind. Pretty sad. Wouldn't recommend based on how they treat their patients! read more

Two of my children had their wisdom teeth out at Pittsburgh Oral Surgery this month. I have to say this office is incredible! The front office is friendly and very helpful, they have this process down to a great system. Dr Robertson is excellent, he treated my kids as adults and explained everything directly to them. The surgeries went very smoothly and both kids did very well. With four impacted wisdom teeth each, I was surprised that neither of them had any bruising. They were sore for a day or two with a small amount of swelling...I credit Dr Robertson's skills...my oldest daughter, who went to a different practice, had massive swelling and bruising. I would highly recommend this practice! read more

One visit. An emergency fit in for a dental problem on a referral. Handled without fuss. Did the paperwork (very thorough), oral surgeon friendly, and helpful. Parking is simple on the street or in the dedicated adjoining garage. The bathroom is not made for disabled patients, it was different getting Into the building. Staff was caring. Was very overwhelmed from the Visit. I wonder if I can get an associate, member from the office other Than who I saw. I have never came out of general surgery in my life, and I was chatting with this person, stated we give patients shots, that scared me , it was a difficult day, I went to far from home. Pittsburgh Looked liked New York. The traffic. The people on bikes. Not permitted My front teeth. Due to biohazard reasons. #gold. That's not fair, I will Be asking my insurance about this .. I have neuropathy, I was in so much pain, from the driving threw the city, my husband drove, my Lymph nodes are inflamed from my teeth.cannot doctors be a little bit Empathic to their patients. I felt so bad upon reading a recent review in which the improper insurance filing and rude staff were mentioned. I unfortunately shared the same terrible experience. The wisdom teeth extraction went painlessly and I had a smooth recovery. I asked for a post-doc appointment and requested oral syringes for the extraction spots although according to my friends and family dentist's experiences, it was usually initiated and proactively scheduled by the surgeons/staff. However, to correct the wrong billing was so time consuming and painful with the staff's inattentiveness and unapologetic attitude. It is not only unfortunate to see patients going through the same things, but also to think about the possibility of jeopardizing the surgeons' reputation due to the service. I sincerely hope the service would improve in the future. read more

Unfortunately, I have a lot of dental problems, despite regular appointments. I've had several extractions at Pittsburgh Oral Surgery, and none of my experiences were bad. In the last six months, I've had two extractions with Dr. Neil Robertson, and he is both competent and compassionate. He is kind about my general dental anxiety and his work is excellent. He also runs reasonably on time, which is great. However, it's important to remember that specialty dentists often run late because they handle emergencies in addition to their scheduled patients. I'd also like to say that all of the staff at the Shadyside and Tarentum offices are unfailingly pleasant and kind. Finally, the offices I've visited have free, convenient parking - including the Shadyside office! I do recommend Pittsburgh Oral Surgery. read more

I went in for a wisdom tooth extraction and saw Dr. Robertson. Terrible experience. He gave me the numbing gel before the shot, but literally waited no time at all to let it work. In one fluid motion he set down the qtip and picked up the syringe. I could get past that. Mildly negligent tho. But then when the procedure starts I tell him I can still feel the metal when he touches my gum. He says that this is fine. I'm skeptical that it is fine I feel anything for an extraction but I accept it. He cuts into my gum and lord I feel it. I kept trying to stop him or the nurse or get their attention. They literally ignored me. It was not pressure. It was sharp deep pain. I had tears rolling down my cheeks and I was whimpering trying to pat the nurses arm to get her attention, and they ignored it. Then he did not pack it, so I developed a dry socket requiring further treatment. The dry socket treatment wasn't good either since they took out the packing and I started having the same pain as before the packing was put in. Also he is very bad at stitching. He allows the stitching threads to just drag all over your face and mouth which is very discomforting and distressing, both in sensation, seeing blood on the thread, and knowing your face may have bacteria on it. Avoid this place. It is deceiving because reception is so sweet and kind. But Dr. Robertson, is awful. No matter how much your wisdom teeth may hurt you, it is not worth him. Trust me. read more

I had a very similar experience to N.P.'s review, only I had a different doctor at the practice (Dr. Eichner.) Absolutely rude, insensitive, churlish, arrogant, mean, nasty, angry, and mocking. I tried to tell him the novocaine had not taken effect, and not only was I feeling all the pain of the extraction, but there was also a tiny piece of wire or something sticking out on the side of his pliers and it was poking and scratching the inside of my cheek. He completely ignored me, angrily mocked me, yanked the tooth out, and left. What a first-class jerk. And according to the other review, he's not the only callous doctor there! Would never return nor recommend this practice. Oh, and they were unapologetic about running very late for my appointment. read more

Had an appointment with Dr. Friend to get a tooth pulled. He was extremely rude with horrible bedside manner. If you are at all wary or nervous about having work done, DO NOT go to him. He knew how nervous I felt and was very rude and insensitive about it, declaring that I should just leave if I was going to act afraid. I will never go back and will never recommend anyone to this practice. read more

They are friendly and polite and I wouldn't mind going back but they did bill my insurance company wrong and I had to correct them.Also the day of my surgery for my wisdom teeth my dentist was confused as to what teeth she was pulling. Worst dental experience. I gave then 1 star only because there was not an option for zero. My daughter had 4 wisdom teeth removed. Five days later, she's still in pain, and these people could not care less. She has been sitting in pain for days just watching the clock, in tears, until she can take more Tylenol/Motrin, and they will not give her anything stronger to help. They told me to bring her in to see if she had a dry socket, and when I got her there, they told me they couldn't tell if she a dry socket by looking at. What?? They said they could pack it with a medicated pack anyway. Again, what?? but she would need to come back every 2 days to have the packing changed. Or they could give her better meds for the pain. At this point she wasn't up to seeing these clowns again, so she opted not to have the packing and go for stronger pain meds, but when we were leaving, they wouldn't give her any new. So now she's back to Tylenol which is now starting to make her sick to her stomach. Great job, guys! We saw two different doctors in two offices, and both were awful with a terribly rude staff. Do not go unless you enjoyed being abused by your dentist. read more
