I have been trying to get in to Aspen Dental as a new patient since around the beginning of May. I also told them when I was scheduling the appointment one of my teeth had cracked and was hurting. My husband uses them so I was confident that they took our dental insurance. The first 3 appointments were rescheduled the morning of the appointment for the following week, with the reason being they were short staffed. The last appointment they called to reschedule yet again, the morning of the appointment, with the reason, again, they were short staffed. By now the tooth had broken and I related this information to the receptionist. She rescheduled me for 2 weeks out which was this morning. (I have been trying to find another dentist by now, but the insurance we have makes it difficult.) I got a call from Aspen Dental Friday to confirm my appointment, that there were no issues, I would be seen as scheduled, they just needed to go over details to make sure we were all on the same page. I get there this morning only to be told that unfortunately, they don't take our insurance after all, sorry. I have extreme dental anxiety, so just getting myself to the dentist is a difficult experience. They promised the moon and stars when I was making the appointment, but that was as far as it all went. I will tell everyone that if you are looking for a new dentist to look everywhere else instead of Aspen Dental on Kickapoo in Shawnee. read more

So mad I could spit. (Dental joke.) I'm 65 and lost faith in my old dentist 3-4 years ago. Had no problems with the teeth but figured I could use a checkup and cleaning. Aspen Shawnee was convenient and I could get in quickly. Now I know why. After 12+ x-rays, thank God for insurance, a hygienist interviewed me and examined my teeth, told me I had bad gum disease and needed a "deep cleaning," which was a surprise. Dentist exam led to diagnosis of 3 cavities we couldn't see on x-ray (red flag) and I needed 2 crowns and a referral to a specialist "just in case." Having had no pain, bad taste, or bleeding, I was now on full alert. Then I got to meet the office manager, who explained financing options for the thousands of dollars insurance wouldn't cover. They had told me about this meeting on the phone when I made the appointment, so I was wary of that red flag. Having had a similarly aggressive approach to my teeth many years ago, resulting in financing another dentist's JetSki, I walked out. I suggest you don't walk in unless you really NEED extensive dental treatment and can afford it. Good luck to you. read more

I put off seeing a dentist for several years because of the pain I'd experienced during dental services, but finally had to bite the bullet and see a dentist. Aspen evaluated my needs and gave me a reasonable, itemized quote for all the procedures I need, which was much appreciated. Then, despite being hit by the April '23 tornado, they were able to get me in to do multiple extractions AND they provided me with an amazing upper denture that looks completely natural. Hardly any pain during the procedure at all, which leads me to believe that past dentists who told me that I was one of those people who just don't numb up well were full of baloney. Aspen's dentist and tech were amazing. I wish I'd gone to them years ago, I could've possibly avoided a lot of issues. read more

Went to Aspen Dental and they did a test to see if I had gum disease. They said most of my teeth were "4s" and a several "5s" they told me that I had periodontal disease and I needed to have scaling and root planing done and I needed antibiotics, mouth wash and special toothbrush. The cost to do this was going to be $1200. I felt very pressured to get it done. I kept telling them no, that I wasn't going to make a really expensive decision like that with 5 minutes notice. They kept telling me about how dangerous it was and I could eventually lose all my teeth to gum disease if I didn't get this treatment. Then they refused to clean my teeth because it was "unethical" since cleaning my teeth wouldn't fix my periodontal disease. Then the dentist comes in and tells me that I needed one of my front teeth extracted and I'd have to get a crown. She didn't thoroughly examine the tooth, I think she based it off an xray. The total bill to get all this done was around $3k. I was absolutely devastated - especially about needing the tooth pulled. All of that took over 2 hours and I never felt like anyone was listening to me. I was just another cog in the assembly line they were churning out on a daily basis. Also during that visit I had them temporarily cement on a crown that had come off my implant - and that fell off 6 days later. Which is why today I went and saw another dentist in town. He did the gum disease exam with me and he's called out all 2s and 3s on my teeth. He said I absolutely did not need any scaling and root planing and that getting it done unnecessarily was actual harmful. Then he actually examined the tooth that I was told needed to be extracted. He tapped and poked and pulled on it - none of it hurt. He said he didn't see any reason why it would need to be pulled out. I was nearly in tears because I was so angry about what Aspen Dental had tried to do to me a week ago. That's $3,000 worth of work they tried to pressure and scare me into getting that I didn't need. Can you imagine??? the dentist told me I needed a tooth pulled and I don't. I'm furious. Think of all the people that won't go and get a 2nd opinion or have a hard time saying "no" when they try to pressure you into treatments you don't really need. How many people just get rolled over because they think there is no other choice or they get scared? Don't go to Apsen Dental. Please listen to my story and go somewhere else - at the very least, if you do go here and they try to upsell you on periodontal treatments or tell you something unexpected, go get a 2nd opinion. PS - oh and because the dentist didn't really do a thorough exam of my mouth and just went off the xrays, she missed a tiny cavity that I had in one of my back teeth that the dentist today found because he took the time to spend more than 3 minutes with me. read more

This nearby new dental store provides no nonsense service at a no nonsense price. The office staff was helpful in ascertaining my needs and setting up the best time for me. The dentist was very calm, and steady handed. I left without pain after an extraction and will undoubtedly visit this office in the future for my dental needs. read more

I highly recommend them for dentures. I have had dentures about 10 years. I was miserable, they didn't fit and they hurt. I got a set about a month ago and still had problems. They worked with me until they fit like a glove. They are great! read more

Dr. Cooley treated my sister in law with disrespect today. If someone comes in needing help you should help them, but because there were issues with insurance out of her control you decided she wasn't worth helping. Of course I'm sure you still billed the insurance though after it all got resolved. You should be ashamed and do not deserve the Dr. in front of your name. read more

Aspen dental of Shawnee is the worst dental care.Please save yourself from the pain and ignorant dentist whom only thinks patients are for profit. My sister needed emergent care and was in a lot of pain. Dr. Cooley treated her like she wasn't up to his standard of patient because her insurance carrier had made an error in her coverage. They decided to proceed with less than efficient assessment and send her out the door with a referral to an oral surgeon without treating her pain or even an oral assessment. She immediately found another dentist whom is not tallying insurance cards like a black jack dealer and was soon out of pain and did not even need an oral surgeon. Her insurance was promptly fixed which I'm sure Dr Cooley has already charged even though he did nothing to help her. He only caused her more pain and anxiety. As for aspen dental your staff is rude and unhelpful and can't even use your tiny brains to help give patients the most effective and efficient care! I called to schedule an appointment late at night because I was in agonizing pain to the point I am barely able to open my mouth. The gentlemen on the phone was very nice stated he was getting me an emergency appointment with their head dentist Dr. Cooley who would make sure I was taken care of. My appointment was for 9:15am so I got up took my kids to school went to work where I work as a nurse, left and arrived at the Shawnee office for my appointment. The door was unlocked at 9 am, I entered and I was asked if I was a new patient and handed a clip board, filled out paperwork and returned it, a few minutes later the lady behind the desk says "you haven't had coverage since June of 2019" I explained there has to be a mistake and contacted my employer. Another girl comes and ask me what I would like to do I explain my employer is working on the issue. A few minutes later the girl behind the desk says she would like to get x-rays just in case so I go to the back, I am in significant pain and can barely open my mouth. The girl attempting to get the xrays is trying to open my mouth but I literally am physically unable due to the swelling so I am now in more pain. She then sticks her finger in my mouth trying to obtain X-rays and then seats me in a room and says the doctor would be in. As I am waiting I am in contact with my employer working on the insurance issue, after 30 minutes or so a man appears in the doorway doesn't introduce himself, I see his shirt says Dr. Cooley. He proceeds to tell me I need to see an oral surgeon and some antibiotics. He never attempted to examine my mouth, never attempted to explain why I was in so much pain, why I can't open my mouth, etc. He acted like he couldn't come further than the doorway. I get there was an issue with the insurance, but my god I am a nurse and I would never treat a patient with such disregard. I was assured when I scheduled the appointment I would be taken care of and that was the furthest thing from the truth. I left in tears, pulling out of the parking lot my insurance was corrected, I was able to see another dentist today and had such a better experience. Aspen Dental you need to educate your dentist on empathy, general kindness, and it's not always about making a dollar. You will never make one from me or anyone I know! read more

Traumatizing an awful experience for my 8 year old child. We will not be back and I would advice others with children to not visit Aspen Dental in Shawnee, Ok. At one point the dentist gave my 8 year old child the tool and a mirror so my daughter could attempt to extract her own tooth. The dentist and hygienist would administer the calming and numbing medicine and then leave and would not return for close to 30 mins. I felt as though the Dentist and staff were to busy to give my child the attention and care that she needed and deserved. By the time the dentist decided to work on my childs tooth the medicine was already starting to wear off and she attempted a 3rd shot. Which by 3 hours of this, my child was scared to death. After being at the office from 1:00-4:15, we left with nothing being done except my child being traumatized. This office needs to be looked into by the Dental board and for sure the Aspen Dental corporation. read more

I had a great visit at the Aspen in Shawnee. I was very scared to go in but I was helped by Crystal, she had an amazing personality and really eased my mind. She talked me through the whole appointment and assured me that I was in great hands. The doctor was really funny, all the ladies were great. I will be coming back and recommending everyone. I know!
