I'm a bit on the fence here it's a bit gimmicky for me and sales pitch. I went for a dental cleaning due to my dentist I've been going to lost their hygienist. I'm really on top of my 2 cleanings a year. Contacted my dental insurance and was told it was okay to go to this place for the cleaning and once my normal dentist got a hygienist I would return back to my dentist I've been going to for some time now and the hygienist there. I got here and immediately felt as if I was in a car lot. The experience was not pleasant to me and honestly I felt as if no was not an answer. Implants were all I sat and listened to when I just came for dental cleaning. My insurance received and denied a bit of it when I told them I'm not interested at the time. Needless to say I paid near 500.00 that day and I will be remaining with my normal dentist and his new hygienist. The hygienist there done a good job, however it's still gimmicky. WARNING: ASPEN DENTAL TRIED TO SCAM ME! I wish I could give them zero stars. Please read on. I have really good teeth (genetics) in addition to excellent oral hygiene. The dentist and hygienist in South Tampa that I went to for over 10 years and loved (Joshua Wyatt & Laura), were always complimentary of my teeth and oral home care. No issues of decay were ever presented to me by them. Unfortunately, my insurance changed last year so I had to go to a new dentist. I chose Aspen Dental since it's very close to me. The office aesthetic is very nice and all of the staff, the hygienist and the dentist were very kind and professional. But they told me something that was shocking to me. They said I had significant bone loss and that I need a scaling and root planing periodontic procedure. They explained that bone loss is judged on a 1-9 mm point scale measuring the depth of the pockets between your tooth and the gum. Every tooth is checked and given a number rating. One through three mm is good, four is a warning, five and six need treatment and seven through nine indicate risk of tooth loss. They told me I was in the three to five range and that I needed treatment. This was the very first time I've ever been told by any dentist that I had a problem. Being suspicious and knowing insurance likely wouldn't pay for a second opinion, I went to Concorde Career Institute that educates dental hygienists and is overseen by licensed hygienists and dentists. They provide free dental X-rays, exams and cleanings so their students can get their practice hours. I went to them once before, about six months ago, while I was between insurance coverage and I had a great experience. No issues were identified by them six months ago. Fast forward six months later to now, Concorde again told me my teeth look great and that I was in the one to three mm range which is exactly what I expected. This was one week after Aspen Dental told me I was in the three to five mm range and I needed treatment. Naturally, the periodontic scaling and planing treatment Aspen Dental recommended for me is not covered by insurance. It costs $649. These people tried to scam me telling me I needed an expensive procedure that I absolutely do not need. I've searched for Aspen Dental on Facebook, NextDoor and Google and I found thousands of negative comments about them including several reports eerily similar to mine. In addition I found several television news stories from around the country about their many scams. There was even a documentary done by Frontline for PBS in 2012 about their deceptive practices and a class-action lawsuit. Aspin Dental Management sucks big time. I had an appointment that United Healthcare made for me on the 20th at 2 pm. They took several xrays, and I had an evaluation with a dentist and hygienist. Afterwords the assistant manager Shanon Nevin said she would talk to me shortly about the treatment plan and to wait. After 20 minutes or so, she calls me into the hall and tells me their is nothing she can do for me that United will not cover me at Aspin and suggested that I change companies. I don't drive, so I had to take a Lift there and back. Why and the hell didn't they tell United they didn't take their insurance. Total unprofessional actions. Great quality of care and affordable. Treatments and the medical staff are very professional. Patient coordinators are also very pleasant. But the front office and billing is a nightmare. Beware to always review the numbers before you sign. Many times they had incorrect billing or care plans that were not consented. Scheduling has also been very difficult. You call and you get 4 different automated recordings and you can never get direct to the office. If they fixed operations/scheduling/billing, this place would be awesome. Aren't you embarrassed? Aren't you ashamed to be scamming people like this? I went in as a new patient for a cleaning and was taken for x-rays. Then the hygienist examined my teeth, and explained what she would *recommend* for "deep cleaning" and asked if I wanted a toothbrush and a prescription rinse. She told me how dense my bones were, and answered my questions. And then she left and I heard her give the same spiel to another patient. I didn't realize it at the time but it was a sales pitch, not an explanation of what she was going to do. At no time did I receive a cleaning from the hygienist. After another wait, the doctor came in and took a look at my X-ray and a crown. She told me my wisdom tooth or the tooth next to it might need to come out. I asked if it would really pose a problem at my age. Would it somehow erupt, or? Well, no, but if it does, come back. Hmm. Then she poked at my crown and it was tender. She said I might need a root canal, and likely a new crown and a filling. She would have me talk to the people at the front desk for pricing and left. I sit the with the drool bib, waiting for the hygienist to return for the customary cleaning one expects at the dentist. Instead, the doctor returns with office manager. She leaves, and the manager asks me to follow her. Will I be getting a cleaning? That's what I'm here for? Oh, she says, did you want to schedule that? You can take off the bib now. She takes me to a desk and tells me how much everything will cost. She might even be able to squeeze me in for a cleaning today. (!!!) By that time, I had already been there for almost and hour and a half. I have excellent insurance. Does it cover it? She says all insurance covers about the same amount. I tell her I've never had this experience of being taken to a desk to discuss prices. She offers to show me how the prices break down. As soon ask I see the line for a $135 toothbrush she offers to take it off, then I decline the $25 toothpaste, as well. She runs down the whole summary and tells me with a straight face my out of pocket expenses would be upwards of $1600! I say twice that I decline everything until I can run it by my insurance. This is only to be polite. I want to say, "because I will not be returning, ever." She asks me to schedule the procedures anyway in case I change my mind. I say I will be on my way. She asks if I want the summary, and I take it, if only for evidence. Now I have to find somewhere else to get my teeth cleaned. What a colossal waste of my morning. I booked my father a same day appointment with Aspen Dental. Because he was a new patient it was a free consultation. I didn't attend the visit with him but when he returned he had nothing but good things to say about them. He mentioned that they were a little expensive being that he doesn't have dental insurance but that if he had the funds he would definitely go back to them. Should be zero stars due to Aspen's Terrible business practices. They quote you a price that you will have to pay based on your insurance coverage. Then they botch the report to the insurance company, for instance charging for work on more surfaces than a tooth has. Then they refused to correct their obvious error and charge you the difference when the insurance company denies it. How can they do this so blatantly? Went in to have a cavity seen about. Absolutely no pain in any of my teeth. I experienced a 2 hour assessment, where I had numerous X-rays, the dentist put frozen cotton balls against my gums on my back teeth and tapped all those teeth with a metal instrument till I jumped in pain. Sent to billing where I was told I needed $12,000 of work. Then they got it down to $7,000. I left, overwhelmed and in pain. 24 hrs later I am still hurting from this dental "assessment". They only gave me a cover sheet of charges, no breakdown of what I supposedly needed. Worst dental experience of my life- find a local honest dentist- this business is unethical and clearly has sales goals to be met. read more

I went in a couple of weeks ago to get a filling done - it was my first time in two years going to the Dentist. After booking my appointment I received a text message to confirm- I actually forgot to respond and confirm (that was my bad). Still, the staff had some flexibility that day and they were able to reschedule me and see me that same day. Staff were very friendly, accommodating and mindful about COVID. The Doctor did a good job with my filling and after care recommendations. I appreciate she made me feel at ease. Also appreciate that there was bilingual staff! Stay away from Aspen Dental Lafayette, CO. Had a consultation on a Thursday for extraction of 2 teeth. I let them know my pain was a 10/10. Doc would not extract teeth until Monday afternoon. Left office w antibiotic prescription. No pain presc. Called them Friday morning to tell them my cheek looked like a golf ball was in my cheek. Doc didyeant to see me to check. Pain was a 15/10. Finally got him to call in a pain med. Later, Friday afternoon, I called back to tell him the pain was over the top extreme. I felt like it was an abscess. Again did not want to see me. I ended up having to call an emergency dentist and having a teeth extracted early Friday evening. This dentist was appalled at the interest of the Aspen doctor. The other annoying heart and dealing with Aspen Dental is since they are a chain. All they only want to do is upsell you every time I call back they said is there anybody else in your family you'd like to schedule an appointment for? That's not the way to run a business. They definitely don't care about their patients. I ended up leaving them a voicemail with my concerns and issues and they called back to sale but that's not who we are Trying to upsell me when I was in a horrid amount of pain. Completely scammed me. I have always had nice teeth. At last visit six months ago I received glowing reviews at another office. At Aspen, they said I had very serious bone loss and needed a $900 procedure immediately. Office manager came in to try to get me to do financing when I never said ONE WORD about the cost. I have an insane schedule and was scared about what they were telling me and did it on the spot. Incredibly painful. I got home and couldn't stop thinking about how it didn't add up and I didn't have any of the symptoms of bone loss. Started looking at reviews and saw the same scam from them over and over. I had three different dentists and a hygienist look at my X-rays and they said absolutely unnecessary and they couldn't believe it. Except they could believe it because they hear it about them all the time. Also, they said it is uncommon to treat all four quadrants at once and they would NEVER put a patient through that. I guess they wanted to ensure every single penny before I had a chance to research what a SCAM they are. Incredibly traumatic and horrible experience. Do NOT set foot in this place. This is an important step to get a comfort level as a new patient AND let's me know what 'contactable' Aspen is when I really need them! In fact, they push 100% touchless online. Facebook or twitter is seemingly the preferred method of contact - really????? I'm going to ask and/or learn personal information via social media. Have not enough studies shown this is a useless way to attract new customers. If I cannot contact you just to ask a few questions and sign up ... why in the world would I come as a new patient. You might be the greatest dental practise in the world, but I will never know. And, based on other reviews, you do little to improve customer service. But as I walk into my appointments I am welcomed with more charges... I thought everything had to be paid in advance? Sketch. Then they tried charging me $27 for a toothpaste they said I wanted, I told them that no I did not want it and they said I had to take it because it was prescribed to me "it doesn't matter if you want it, you need it" was what was told to me. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. This place is such a scam. I scheduled my first visit and gave my insurance information which was accepted. I asked to schedule a cleaning and they said "a check up?" And I said "Whatever it is called I just need a cleaning." I was asked to arrive early (appt at 8) to fill out new patient paperwork. I get there early but no one comes out to help me until after 8am. At 8:30 I am told my insurance was deleted from the system and may not be accepted. So they call to find out that I am accepted. At 8:50 I am taken back to get x-rays completed. I am then taken into a room where a dentist comes in to look at my teeth, someone tells me where I need to floss, and the dentist tries very hard to sell me Invisalign. Then I asked if I am getting a cleaning like I scheduled and they tell me I have to come back for that and take me into a separate room. Then someone from the front brought me to a desk to discuss payment that included 5 fillings, a cleaning that I never received, and my Invisalign. I was shocked to hear about needing fillings considering all the dentist talked about was Invisalign and tried to get me to buy it. He had no concern about me or my actual teeth, just about selling me Invisalign. When I asked what the insurance covered, she said the insurance had deleted from the system again and they would need to try to get through to them. At this point I was about to hit 2 hours without any progress and left. After years of getting care at a small dentist's office, I was appalled at the experience I received at Aspen dental. They tried so hard to sell me on everything that I ended up having no idea what was really going on with my teeth. I strongly recommend waiting the couple extra weeks to get into a good, small dentist's office rather than settling for this place just because they can get you in next day. read more

Make sure you go in KNOWING for yourself what your insurance pays for. Do NOT rely on them to contact your insurance company and tell you accurately what's covered and what's not. I took my two kids in for a cleaning and checkup. They wanted to do sealants. I asked specifically how much it would cost. I was told, "nothing, it's covered by your insurance." Well, two weeks later I get a bill for approximately $340 for sealants not covered by my insurance. I protested, so they offered to write off one of my child's bill of $150, leaving me still owing $190. I had to go back to get a tooth pulled expecting to be asked to pay the $190. Instead, they then asked for $240 saying that the original balance was $500 and they were writing off half. So the story changed. I have no idea where $500 came from. So I let them listen to the voicemail I had from them stating the above write-off offer. So then my balance went back to $190. I have never had any "surprise" bills from a dental visit. They normally contact the insurance company and ACCURATELY inform of out-of-pocket costs. I am giving them 2 stars because the hygienist staff and dentists are pleasant. I've been twice; first time in May 2017& last week. Their billing screwed up twice and cost are very high. Recommend not to use this franchise. 1. They overcharge first of all. Quoted nearly $5k (I have pretty good insurance) for work that literalIy cost me so far $1200 from a dentist a few blocks away. On the day I was quoted this, I politely decline and even told the office manager that the seemed extremely high. Then left. Called a new dentist who saw the next day. To top it off I have received bills twice for work not performed. About a month ago received one for supposed work done last May. Problem is; I never it done in the first. At last, appointment, office manager said," oh it was a mistake and removed". Then today received nearly $700 bill for work that was done last week! Again, the work was never done. Funny thing is- before they start they sit you down and go over the cost of the work, which I declined. Not a 100% sure these are errors.
