Going to the dentist makes me anxious, but this was the a great experience. This is based on my first visit as a new patient. I was met promptly for my appointment at check-in. The hygienist was thorough, but very gentle. I got in a little trouble for not flossing daily, but that's on me. I was welcomed by the dentist as a new patient and she spent a reasonable amount of time with me for my exam. I didn't have insurance, but my total invoice for a cleaning, X-rays and exam was very reasonable. Sounds silly, but I am looking forward to my next scheduled appointment . read more

HORRIBLE experience. The worst experience I've had with a receptionist, probably ever. I submitted paperwork weeks ago. They ask for it this way on purpose, I assume so they can check insurance and such. I walk in and they can't find my policy. I didn't have my policy number because the provider doesn't give out insurance cards. I was told it could be looked up when I called for the appt. I asked why I wasn't called ahead of time to resolve this, because I can't access any of my information from their office, it's on my work laptop. I had no apology from Laura, she just laughed then got defensive and said it's not usually an issue. Instead of just seeing me for my appointment and worrying about it later, she tells me I can go home to get it but I'll miss my appointment but maybe they can squeeze me in later. I tell her she should've called me and somewhat slam the door in disgust and was asked not to come back. I didn't do or say anything inappropriate to this woman other than acknowledge the fact that they could have called me and notified me of the need for more information. It's unfortunate that we live in a time where an employee cannot take responsibility for pre screening the information ahead of time or trouble shooting an issue more appropriately. I was a receptionist in a doctors office when I was 15 and never once ran into an issue and sure handled things more professionally. Why bother asking for information ahead of time if you're not going to do your job and address it so it's set up when the patient comes in. Why couldn't this have been dealt with afterward? I wouldn't have returned here anyway, it is a recipe for disaster in the future. I'm mainly disappointed because I waited a month to get in here and now I have to find a new dentist. read more

Dr. Downie has amazing teeth, which I appreciate because she practices what she does professionally. I prefer to go to dentists who have awesome teeth. Her personality is warming and friendly. I love having forms provided to me in advance to expedite the process. As an IT professional, I can also appreciate having online forms so I can complete them and have everything submitted. When I arrived, the receptionist acknowledges receiving them and all that I need to do is sign a few acknowledgement of some standard forms. The dental technician was pleasant, friendly and had a great sense of humor. You can tell the entire staff works well together and it felt like a family environment. I'm grateful that I found a great dental practice and surprisingly I look forward to my 6-month visit. You don't generally hear that too often especially when it comes to dental visits. read more

Went to my first appointment with Dr. Downie ! Walked in was greeted by Laura who had been communicating with me on a Sunday about scheduling me for an appointment the day I was off from work. Fit me right in! Expressed all of my concerns including being charged at another dental office for a oral cancer screening and being pushed to implants. I was reassured they are different and feel I will love this office and with no effort at all, I really am! Posy's was my lovely hygienist who took me back immediately consulted me on what I was here for and got right now to business x-rays , and then a cleaning! All were great got nothing but information and how I can prevent future problems made me feel like a real person not a sale for cosmetic stuff like implants. After my cleaning my teeth feel wonderful then Dr. Downie comes in and in an instant I found my dentist! She was so friendly and really assured me that there was nothing wrong with my teeth other than a cracked tooth and a filling I never got fixed. She is very nice and to the point even said at our office " none of our clients come in with complaints or cavities " which assured me that she was tough and really wanted to have her patients the best teeth around! I've been to quite a few dentists due to my never ending teeth problems and to the move. Dr. Downie is my favorite! I love how I was able to schedule my first appointment online. That's so in with the times. I was pleasantly surprised when I came in and everyone was so friendly. Even the doctor had a sense of humor and is SUPER nice. In between complementing my teeth and gums, she's apologizing and trying to mitigate any pain. She's really awesome and I definitely miss this office now that I moved out of state! read more

So I move here last year and as seen from previous reviews I have written, I am into the old school doctors and dentists. But I must say that I Dr. Downie changes all of that! I initially went to her in March with my fiance to get a check up. Being nervous and hating needles and the like, I was not anxious at all! The staff was so kind and at the first greeting I was comfortable. I don't know what it was but I knew that this was going to be a great experience. In getting my check up I have two cavities and a crown needed. Well I was not happy but then again, my dentist in NY might have missed it. So after finding this out, I get the cleaning and set up my future appointments. Here comes the difficult part. I have a permanent retainer in the front of my teeth, so you guessed it, the cavities are in the front! So I would have to get the retainer removed, get teeth filled and have the retainer put back on. Without the two months of my research with my dentist in NY, I decided to take a leap of faith here and spare the expense of flying to NY to get it done. On Downie's suggestion, I called Perez Orthodontics. (You know that experience was positive and review was written about that too.). So the removal, time frame it took, with no stress or hassle, BONUS!!! (Especially the price, very reasonable!) Now back to Dr. Downie. Through the two filings and the crown, that was SO MUCH FUN! She is a hoot! Of course, I go in there all excited (I am NEVER happy to be at the dentist)! She is so sweet, friendly, and an A+ professional in my book! Sorry dentist in NY, but Downie has you BEAT! Didn't feel ANY needle, PAINLESS, lots of fun and laughter, and she pulls out all the "special" tricks for her patients to make it a piece of cake. Her staff is fantastic too! (Sorry ladies I forgot your names, but you know who you are). They know what they are doing, explain each step of the way, and are meticulous in details. Hey, nothing wrong with having a little OCD right? Especially when you want to look fabulous! The quality of work that she does is amazing. The cavities and crown she did was superb. They came out nice and doesn't look like I had any work done with NO PAIN!!! Remember that the next time you visit your dentist. NO PAIN and she is WAY more fun! ;o) I am so happy I am her patient. I can hardly wait for my check up in September! But I can do without any cavities, etc. for a while. Now if I can just get Dr. Perez and Dr. Downie together! I will have to work my magic! read more

I have been coming to this practice for 2 years now and I really like Dr. Downie and her practice! I have always dreaded going to the dentist until I started coming here, which says a lot. The location is great and parking is easy right out front. Front desk receptionist is friendly and polite and it's easy to schedule appointments. They have a convenient system to send reminders via email and text and also to let you know if there's a cancellation and you would like to come earlier which I thought was nice. The practice is a clean and modern space. Comfortable chairs with television screens to entertain you while you have your exam or cleaning performed. Kelly the hygienist performed my cleaning today, and Dr Downie did my exam efficiently and thoroughly and seemed to know exactly what was going on. Last time I was there Dr. Downie herself did my cleaning which I thought was cool. They are both super friendly and professional. I particularly appreciate their straight forward nature and that they didn't try to sell me a bunch of services I didn't need (that has happened to me in the past and I really hate when dentists and their staff pull that kind of stuff - pretty unethical!) so I really appreciated an honest and friendly visit!!! The process for a new client was easy and painless. Had a little hiccup with my insurance but the receptionist got it solved quickly. Communication was great. Had a small time, family vibe about the place but the service was better than a large dentistry. The hygentist I had was gentle and easy going. I was very comfortable which is a lot to say because I typically hate the dentist. But not this dentist. They were kind to my sensitive teeth, through with their inspection and the cleaning I recieved was great! A recent transplant to the Tampa Bay area, there were a myriad of dentists from which to choose, over 60 offices were returned in my search, most of which were four stars and higher. I narrowed my search to the following criteria: 1) A great Yelp rating with supporting reviews 2) Minutes from work 3) Convenient hours. Setting up the appointment could not have been easier. Betty is a great communicator and Pearl Dental Center's website couldn't be easier to navigate. I got a convenient appointment for the following week. Betty is as nice in person as she is via email. Kelly, the hygienist, is very capable, personable, and funny. She took my x-rays, inventoried my chompers, and performed my cleaning - a very thorough and detailed one - awesome. My interaction with Dr. Downie was limited because I had ZERO cavities. She is very nice and personable as well and also has great sense of humor. She did get me with the fluoride treatment up-sale. (Which I needed). I was going to take off a star because Dr. Downie & Kelly are from Indiana, but then Kelly hit me up with a patient gift bag - so we're even. The best dentist ever! My family moved to S. Tampa 2 years ago and after asking around among my neighbors, I found that none of them could give a ringing endorsement of a dentist. To a one, all felt they were either "upsold" products and treatments and/or the work performed was shoddy. But we needed a dentist, so when Dr. Downie's postcard arrived in the mail, I decided to be the family guinea pig and give her a try. I am so happy I did... Her office is conveniently located on Swann and from the moment I entered the clean, pretty waiting room, I knew I had happened on a find. After an expert, pain free cleaning and a thorough examination of my teeth, gums and mouth, it was determined that I needed needed a couple of fillings and a crown. Follow up appointments -- all on Fridays and Saturdays which works perfectly with my schedule -- were easy to arrange and the work that ensued was painless and perfect. Since my experience was so positive, I made appointments for all 3 (young adult sons) and my husband. All have left after their visits raving about how wonderful Dr. Downie and her whole team were. She has 5 new loyal patients. I can't recommend her or her friendly, upbeat staff more highly. read more

Visiting Dr. Downie's office was spectacular. The entire team was friendly and outgoing. I feel like they did everything possible to make me feel comfortable. I quite literally have not had a more pleasant experience at a dental office.. EVER! I went in for a standard cleaning and x-rays and the process was smooth. The inside of the front office is very modern (looks like a room from a west elm magazine) and cozy. In addition to the office looking good, it is also very clean. I'm impressed with how much detail went into everything. In addition to the great service you receive in the office, they make it super easy to get in contact with them via E-mail. They are extremely quick in responding to an e-mail and answering questions. Filling out patient forms can be done securely online as well saving you waiting time at the office. I was seen as soon as I got to the office because I filled out my forms through a secure online portal. The most underrated part of a dentist's practice is their staff. The appointment process was easy and quick (all digital) with plenty of appt reminders. When I showed up I spent 5 min inputting my details into a tablet, and was off to the chair. Dr Downie has all state of the art equipment and after a couple xrays, Dr D sat down looked me over and made a few suggestions without the hard sales that you get from some of the bigger dental conglomerates. I went directly over to her Hygienist who quickly and painlessly cleaned my teeth (she did great because it was better then when my mom who was in hygiene for 20 years did my teeth). I recommend the good Doctor any day of the week and well not on Sunday because she is closed......;) read more

I'm always apprehensive about going to the dentist, especially a new dentist. What fresh hell is in store for me? When I lived in DC I had the same dentist for 25 years and try as I might to replicate that care in Florida, I wasn't able to - until today. All of the paperwork can be done online ahead of time. Dr. Downie's office verifies insurance coverage. The office feels so comfortable without that "corporate" feel to it. Jaima took the first set of x-rays and then Usha did the second set, before cleaning my teeth. She was so gentle, thorough and reassuring. Dr. Downie did a thorough exam and did not try to sell anything! After several dentists in St. Petersburg came up with unnecessary "treatment plans" it was so refreshing to find an honest and competent dentist. I drove from St. Petersburg and it was so worth it.
