This is the third time we are staying here and the setting is really wonderful. The rooms are spacious, and it's a nice trade-off to downtown. The views are beautiful and there are a lot of things to do, trail to go on, borrow a bike, etc However, the service is average to mediocre for the price. Staff is basically present but uninterested, it seems like this place is run by seasonal staff and not professional one. The gym is dirty, with towels and dirty stuff everywhere and even though the pool is in a superb setting, it lacks maintenance and cleanliness. read more

My wife and I stayed here for a night for our anniversary and everything about this resort hotel was great. We had a 2nd level suite with a nice view of the mountains and the amenities inside the room were updated and high quality. The suite had the bedroom and office areas separated which was nice. Also, it came with two HDTVs that had more channels than most hotels seem to do (with actual HD channels). The hotel was able to accomodate our early check-in and late check-out without any problems. Since we told them it was our anniversary, they sent a free bottle of wine to us ($38 value per the room service menu). Also, their current promotion included two free vouchers for their breakfast buffet, which is normally $20 per person. That sounds like alot, but wow...that breakfast was amazing. High quality items all around including a cook to make you omelets by request. The grounds are very well maintained and there are many sculptures and paths to walk on, which are lit up at night. The only complaint I have is that the parking garage is a little far from the buildings so you hopefully have some roller bags if you want to avoid tipping a bellhop. I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking for a nice place in Aspen to stay. I'm sure it is pricier in the tourist season, but $212 a night for what we received was excellent. read more

To start this review off fairly, I think I need to preface- depending on which room you get, your love for Aspen Meadows Resort will either be strong or waver a bit. The first night I was there, I got an upstairs corner room. I was in love. I loved the Bauhaus styled furniture, all the windows along the walls and the small kitchen and kitchen table. We had brought our dog with us, and it was nice that we could quarantine him off to the bedroom with the wall divider. The bathroom was clean and extremely functional. The resort itself was quiet, peaceful and serene. The second day, we had to switch rooms and that's when my love wavered a bit. This second room was not a corner room and was significantly smaller, darker, and also didn't seem as well kept. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There were mostly families and couples when I went there- so it's definitely not the most lively of places if you're single and looking for a hook up. If you want a quiet retreat that's not too far from the center of town, I'd suggest this place. It's definitely well priced and you leave feeling relaxed. read more

First the good: beautiful location, well executed Bauhaus style integrating architecture and art. The grounds are perfect for a short stroll or for longer exploration. Now the bad: It's summer. It's warm. There is no breeze and the rooms have no air conditioning. My room is stifling. There is no way I'm going to be able the sleep tonight, or the rest of the week. Even with all windows open and the fan on it's not getting any better. I stroll across to the only restaurant on property for dinner. It's closed for a private function. The bar area was packed (and hot). They offered to drive me into town - but I don't want to do that. I want to enjoy the resort. He's a strong message to the management team at Aspen Meadows: Yes I know you want to make revenue from your restaurant, but closing the **ONLY** restaurant is incredibly disappointing and disruptive to your guests. While I was figuring out what to do there were at least 4 other groups of people who were turned away. They were not happy. I'm not happy. I'll update my review as the week progresses - but thus far this is very much a "meh" experience. **Updated review: Well it turned out that with the windows open the room was sufficiently cool for sleep (and the bed was very comfortable!) The grounds are amazing; sculptures and earthen-works wherever you turn. Spent a fun afternoon just exploring. Shuttle rides to and from Apen were quick and run spot on time. Couldn't ask for better. I've upgraded my review to three stars - but can't go any higher due to more issues with the on-property restaurant that I visited for dinner on Wednesday 16 July. Issues: 1. I asked to be sated outside. "outside dining doesn't open until 8:00" was the curt reply from the rather dismissive lady at the front. (when I went into the restaurant it looked like the outside area was set for a private event (mobile bar set up - but who's to know? certainly the hostess wasn't going to explain...)) 2. I was seated. Water was promptly delivered and I sat, and sat, and sat. And I sat..... I could see two waitstaff working three tables (mine was the 4th). The waiters each made several trips to the other tables to take orders, drop off or engage in discussion. Both waiters breezed past me several times. But no one stopped. No one said "with you in a minute", no one offered me a drink beyond water, no one seemed interested in talking an order... After 10 minutes I got up and left. I told the hostess that I'd sat for 10 minutes with no greeting and no offer of drinks. She really didn't see very interested. So, overall: Beautiful property; great architecture, prompt and efficient shuttle service. On site restaurant is a disaster, Plan to eat in town if you stay at the Meadows. (After walking out of the Meadows restaurant I wound up eating at Rustique Bistro, which was a great choice it turned out. Excellent and attentive service and great food). A last minute reservation, with a special rate at a special place! If you are a classical music fan, yu can not stay any closer to the tent and Harris concert hall than Aspen Meadows. Gorgeous updated sleek Bauhaus rooms, smartly decorated. Gorgeous grounds. Small but perfectly adequate health club with a lap pool and hot tub outside. Top it off with an excellent breakfast--lots of hot and cold buffet items, and made-to-order omelets, high quality fruit and excellent hot Italian coffee, this was an awesome stay. The physical area is lovely. The room is lovely. Clean, comfortable. All you'd want. The staff is COLD! When we drove up the "Head of Customer Relations" was standing outside chatting. He made no move toward our car. In fact my husband interrupted him to ask if we were in the right place. I got out of the car and started toward the lobby. Larry looked me up and down as if I were meat on a hook that had been out for too many days. We went inside and were greeted coldly by the receptionist. In as few words as possible she showed where our rooms were. Guess what - you have to park your car in the garage and haul your bags to the room.... Oh, you need a bell hop to help? Good old Larry will help. The "concierge" who drives the shuttle to town is nice. Not one to start a conversation but will do his best to answer in a friendly way. Previous comments about the restaurant ring true. Who has a hotel and closes the restaurant all day Sunday and Monday? You can eat in the bar if you want one of maybe 5 choices, most of which are hamburgers. The grounds are lovely, just stay away from the staff! read more

Parking was pretty far from my room. I'm young and fit but it was still an inconvenience. Staff was friendly and I did enjoy the Wecycle and free shuttle services to town. Not really walking distance to most restaurants and bars, so the transportation was a plus. Three stars because no AC and I stayed in summer. There was a sign on the wall that explained that you don't need AC because you can close the blinds and let the open the windows and let the mountain air cool the room. Good in theory but not so much in practice. Was a little uncomfortably hot during the day and then at night it would get too cold. Also a bunch of fruit flies got in which was kind of gross. Overall it was a nice room and view for the price, still probably wouldn't stay again because of the AC and parking situation. read more

We loved the secluded and expansive layout of this resort and we were delighted to watch several deer meander through the open space that the property backs to. The floor to ceiling windows allowed for a very airy feeling to the rooms and I loved the clean, neutral tones and the pop of colors on the exteriors. The reception was friendly but didn't seem overly willing to help get our bags from the parking garage to our rooms, which turned out to be a fairly long walk with heavy luggage, in the rain. No matter, we managed just fine. I would most likely stay here in the future, fingers crossed that the remodeling of the restaurants are complete. read more

Aspen Meadows Resort is the home of the Aspen Institute and the host of the Food and Wine Magazine festival. A great deal of thought clearly went into the design of the rooms and the open spaces - The complex is patterned in the Bauhaus architecture style and the recently-constructed, 22,000-square foot Doerr-Hosier Center was designed by architect Jeffery Berkus and British artist Andy Goldsworthy. Execution, however, is mixed. Minor glitches seemed to be the norm among a group of recent conference attendees, from smoke detectors going off unexpectedly to missing a wake-up call one morning. Also, there is no air conditioning, which wasn't a problem during this particular trip, as the temperature hovered around a very pleasant 80 degrees in the daytime. It could be uncomfortable if the temperature approaches 90 or 100, as it occasionally does during the peak summer months. This resort is a dream! Resonably priced with clean, updated and well decorated rooms and delightful staff. Everyone from the front desk staff to room service delivery, maintenance and a SUPERB kitchen staff. As someone with very specific dietary needs like myself, ordering at a restaurant - especially a fine dining one, can be very difficult. Mike, one of the cooks at The Meadows restaurant was hospitable, knowledgeable, and made my meal an absolute delight. He personally made sure all of my food was suited for my needs. It is great to be a guest in a hotel environment staffing young, bright and respectful employees. I LOVED this place! Came here for a weekend of snowboarding at Snowmass. As I used Hotwire to book the hotel, it was a coin toss between this or the Kimpton Sky hotel. Normally with Hotwire, I've ended up with Kimptons in other cities (Boston, and SF, both of which were good). I was looking forward to staying at the Kimpton, but ended up with this hotel. So glad I did! Even with the Hotwire deal, it wasn't really that cheap ($179/night, plus the $18 daily resort fee for various amenities). Didn't even have enough time to really use the other amenities (spa, jacuzzi, etc), but the experience overall was great, and I would definitely come back here again! Pros: - Big, clean rooms - Updated with a modern Euro feel - Great view (was on the first floor, facing the mountains and adjacent to the river) - Bright (due to the floor-to-ceiling windows, spans across both rooms) - Courteous service (front desk was very helpful, and allowed an extended check-out time for another hour or so) - Sliding glass window to the patio (which you just directly walk outside from) - Complimentary airport and Aspen town shuttle (both of which run pretty often) - Complimentary WiFi - USB charging plugs - 2 TVs (bedroom and common room) - Smores in the lobby during daytime hours (during the winter months, I believe) Cons (minor, yeah, I'm being nit-picky): - Heated floors: typically, this sort of amenity is rather extravagant. They are sectioned into two separate grids with their own thermostats; one for the bedroom, one for the common area. They weren't functioning correctly; the common room side didn't seem to work at all, and the bedroom side was on full blast. Ended up just opening the windows, and slept ok. Told the hotel about it when checking out, and supposedly they were going to have the engineers fix it. Not sure if they ended up doing it, but hopefully so... - Light fixtures were oddly placed (just above bed level). Not really good for reading at night. - First floor: any room in a decent 4-star hotel should be noise-treated, regardless of which floor you're on. I suppose the apartment-like architecture makes it more like... well, an apartment. Luckily, the upstairs neighbors weren't the rowdy type, only some brief stomping. read more

I love love love this hotel! The Ideeli deal for this hotel was the impetus for our last minute trip to Aspen. We got a half off deal for their Junior suite. Thanks to other reviewers on trip advisor, we asked for a 2nd floor corner suite as close to the pool as possible. To our great surprise at check in, they honored all our requests...which resulted in a free upgrade to the deluxe one bedroom suite (428 in Wexner building). The suite is huge, something like 700 sqft, spotless, with modern furnishing, very comfortable bed and down comforter and pillows. The kitchenette area is between the living room and bedroom and is quite spacious with a dining table, microwave, refrigerator and plates and silverware. The bathroom is also spacious with the nicest fluffiest towels (rivaling those of the Ritz!) and very nice toiletries. And the highlight of every night of our stay is a dip in the hot tub after a long day on the slopes. They also have steam rooms in both the female and male locker rooms in the health center (which is open 24hrs/day to hotel guests). Of note, (this has not been a problem for us) but the heater is in the floor (radiant heating system I think) and does take a little while to heat up. Might be an issue if the outside gets much colder than 20s-40s when we were here. Also they don't have A/C...I don't know if it gets hot here in the summer.... Everyone from the front desk, bellman, and health center staff are very courteous and helpful. We would definitely come back here for our next trip to aspen! Room Tip: Wexner building is closest to the health center/poo/hot tub but farthest from lobby and parking lot. Room 428 is amazing corner room with almost panoramic views with the floor to ceiling windows. Room 408 is the suite below that with all the same views and layout but more accessible for those who can't make it up stairs. read more

I was told there is no such a thing as "down to earth" in Aspen. They are wrong! This is a "down to earth" beautiful, serene, simple complex of modern architecture in a park like setting with some hiking trails and a river in the back. The staff was all super friendly, knowledgable and helpful. United airline cancelled our flight the night. The hotel gave us full refund for that night. The room is so spacious with a separate area of living room and a small kitchen. Very nice room layout. It even has a walk-in closet! This place makes me feel like home. Love this hotel. Whoa,,,, this place is very boring! I had one decent drink here, but cannot comment on the food. The crickets were too loud, so I had to leave. The facility looks like a mental hospital, so I could not possible recommend it as a place to meet and greet. However, if you want solitude and peace and quiet, then this place is GREAT! read more

I really enjoyed my stay here. It is very inexpensive (for Aspen) during the "low season" and it is situated just outside of town. However, during that time of year the town can be pretty quiet but still beautiful with some good options for hiking, biking, etc. You can hike a trail along the river to get into town. The suites are great with a living room and a sliding door between the bedroom and the living room. It is very scenic and the restaurant facilities are especially good for hotels. They have a decent health facility with a pool and hot tub. read more

Loved staying here with my girlfriend three falls ago. The golden Aspens are absolutely gorgeous the third and fourth weeks of September and Aspen Meadows is really surrounded by them on all sides. There is a great romantic creek side trail that runs behind the resort all the way to a larger trail that has connections in different parts of Aspen. The room we stayed in was very nice and we enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. A convenient shuttle service will take you to and from downtown. read more

Stayed here last fall and loved it. The resort is gorgeous and car free. We took advantage of the shuttle service and went to dinner downtown and the shuttle picked us up on our timeline. Quick, fast and very convenient. We stayed in a junior suite with 2 queen beds with our two kids and it was fantastic. The beds were comfortable and the linens were soft. The kids loved it too and the tv rotated from the living area to the beds in the middle wall partition. Robes and slippers in the room for our use when we checked in and we loved the balcony. Didn't have the time to use the facilities, but on our next stay are making sure to stay long enough to really be able to indulge. read more

Nicely manicured landscaping. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were awful. Inside and out, the buildings/rooms look and feel like a dorm room. Turns out they were built for a similar use in the 1950's. The windows in the room are unlike any other hotel. Very large and clear. And some of them open. Which is great that it rained because the rooms are NOT air conditioned. The overall decor in the room, minus the bed linens, have a 1990's IKEA furniture feel. They had a shuttle every 30 mins to town. And umbrellas EVERYWHERE for use to move about the property. read more

I just got back form a 3 day stay at the Meadows and it was pretty amazing. The room was spacious and well appointed, the staff was friendly, and the grounds were awesome. I felt like I was living in the Mad Men set. We took full advantage of the basketball court, free bikes, and shuttle service into town. My only knock is that it is pet friendly, and there was a yipper staying in the room upstairs that didn't shut up for hours. I will definitely be back next year. read more

Fantastic resort with wonderful amenities. The rooms are nice and spacious with plenty of green to look at every direction. We enjoyed the tennis courts and art gallery. Although the pool has three lanes, the front desk said kids can play in the first lane, so it's still a family friendly pool. Our girls enjoyed swimming, and the surrounding is stunning. The breakfast buffet was good, and it was a nice touch that kids 12 and under are free. Will definitely be visiting again! read more

It was my husbands and my first time to stay at Aspen Meadows & we were in a king room in the Cato building- great view! We unfortunately had REALLY LOUD people above us- it sounded like they were coming through our ceiling and they kept screaming. We told the front desk and they immediately offered to switch our rooms. Travis & Todd helped us out and we really appreciated their customer service. They relocated us to the second floor, helped us move our bags, and was done very quickly. I wish every hotel had service this good. It was the best night sleep we had the entire week as we had to transfer from another hotel for a night. It was super secluded & quiet. We will be back in the future. read more

Stayed here during mud season on an astonishing Hotwire deal. It's a very unique place attached to the Aspen Institute on land probably worth upwards of $10M to a developer. The rooms are very large, in a dispersed campus-style environment. The views are amazing from either side of the buildings - we looked out directly over the river. The staff was welcoming, the room very well designed, clean as can be, quiet, and relaxing. The health club/pool warrants special mention - I was doing laps outdoors at sunset in a heated salt-water pool, on a bluff directly over the river, and with views of Aspen mountain, Highlands, and Snowmass. A memorable experience for me. The only downside I can think of is that you can't park close to your room - there's a parking area under the tennis courts, and you need to walk maybe 5 minutes or get a golf cart ride. I can picture this being annoying in the dead of winter. read more

I'l start by saying that I booked this hotel through Hotwire since it was a last minute trip. I'm not sure what I expected with this so called 4 star hotel, but this definitely wasn't it. With the expectation that I was getting a suite, I assumed that meant it wouldn't be one big room with the exception of the bathroom area. Some have discussed a divider, also in the pictures on the Aspen Meadows website, which there were none. When I got there the chair and footrest were had stains on them, two windows were missing screens, and neither the chairs (one was metal with no padding) nor the couch were very comfortable. I really don't feel that the room was in the best of condition either. Scratch marks on things, bad paint jobs in a couple areas, and along with the stains I've stayed in much better hotels. Positives - Quiet and peaceful, nice views depending on the room, and a nice workout room. Friendly staff. I don't know if it's because I got a good rate on the room through Hotwire that they stuck me with a less then impressive room (Jill l mentions differences in rooms), but I will certainly not be staying there again and won't recommend it to anyone. read more

I was lucky enough to get a chance to stay here for work related reasons in Aspen. Wow my mind was blown. Every staff member I ran into was very nice and courteous. The food and drinks were very good and not over priced(the hamburgers are amazing). The rooms are very nice, clean, and comfortable. I'm a health nut and the gym was amazing! I am someone who values customer service more than anything and who is not easily satisfied or impressed by it. I can definitely say that throughout the week I spent there, the resort met every standard of excellence. The manager's desire to help and make sure everything was ok and that my request was immediately and perfectly answered, was definitely impressive (can't remember his name). I had nothing to complain about from the minute I walked in to the minute I walked out. It is clear that the management is extremely efficient and that the employees are rigorously trained to provide top notch service. All requests are answered with unbelievable speed and efficiency. i didn't find the rooms to be that far from the front desk, it's just a delightful 3-4 minute walk. If you have a dog, he will have the time of his life. The rooms are so large that i could play fetch with my dog inside ! Mine had 2 XL HD TVs back to back. TONS of storage. The resort is clean, and the scenery is very beautiful. Then again, that is why we all go to Aspen...its beautiful everywhere. It looks more like dormitory buildings than a resort. The room was nice in a Ikea kind of way. The furniture was Ikea-type....all made out of particle board. Kitchen is a 4 foot Ikea cabinet with a dorm-room sized microwave and refrigerator. The sink is tiny. It's great for cereal and milk, but please take your own bowl. The place is filled with staff, but they are uninterested in their clients. no help. NOT A GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! If you're use to resort experiences you will be VERY disappointed with this place. From the moment we arrived we were like ummmmm... 800 for two nights for this?? THEY CHARGE 18 dollars a day to use facilities (even if you don't use them) and the first day the JACUZZI WASNT WORKING WELL!!! The whole place looks like a compound. We went earlier this month (Feb 2014). We requested a room near the pool and they did NOT give it to us. Everything is walking and they didn't offer rides to the fitness center/pool area and there was LOTS of ice and snow on the sidewalks. My boyfriend slipped once. We ordered room service one night and it was SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!! 13 dollars for 6 VERY SMALL wings??? (and they messed up my order!!) the portions were bite size. It was like buying bite size candy from a store but paying the king size prices. The WORST was they are so UNORGANIZED. We stayed in a mountain view JR. suite and paid for the complimentary breakfast in advance and when we got to breakfast they said we had to pay 22 dollars for the buffet. I had to speak to a manager and explain to him that we already paid when we booked the room and he was so confused but finally figured it out. That conversation was had with 3 different people!!!!! So frustrating. All in all.. i wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone. Not sure why the word RESORT is next to the name of this place. NOTHING about it felt resort like. Have low expectations if you do decide to book here. The staff was nice. And the rooms were a little IKEA looking but it was set up cute. read more

Aspen Meadows Restaurant was our favorite restaurant experience in Aspen. Beautiful scenery, great food and friendly service. The menu was a little limited, but everything we had was excellent - we had the scallop and gnocchi appetizers and duck and burger entrees. The cocktails were quite inventive and delicious. Also, unlike other Aspen restaurants, the prices were on par with other parts of the US (no huge Aspen surcharge). I would try to go early evening to try to make the most of the beautiful setting. read more

In particular, you would do well to avoid the laundry service - I have stayed there six years running and my laundry has failed to make its way back to my room on time in five of those years. One time I received someone else's.... The Wi-fi is also spotty and when it's not working, they will treat your report with considerable skepticism. But overall, it's not bad. read more
