The little on-site store has all kinds of cool things including little vials of bentonite clay, which is amazing for mosquito bites. There were no bugs of any kind during my visit- but now I am prepared! I spent more money in the store than I did for my camping spot/soak. Highly recommend!!

We often stay at The Playa Art and Science residency compound located to the south on the edge of Summer Lake but had never before dined at The Lodge. Won't be the last time, I think. - Cozy dining room with a small attached gift shop. No loud music. - Smallish menu with nevertheless a good range of 'comfort food' choices. Steak, chicken, chicken-fried steak, burgers, salmon, fish & chips, salads, etc. - Beer and wine are available. The four of us had: - chicken breast with white sauce - fish & chips - chicken-fried steak - salmon. All were quite good except for the fish & chips which was a bit off and was replaced with a burger (local beef). Side salads, mashed potato sides were ok too. The side vegetables were a bit bland but not bad. They have a few desserts too. Brownie sundae (or sundae brownie, I forget) is delicious and decadent. Brownies, ice cream, whipped cream. I could have this as the main course. I thought the peach pie was solid too but that style pie isn't my favorite. Service is very friendly, efficient. They were quite reasonable about replacing the fish & chips with a burger (it happens - I don't subtract marks for the fish not being the freshest this one time). Reasonable prices too. Recommended, even were it not one of very few options nearby.

We stayed two nights in a partial RV site. (Water and electricity.). The park was not busy at all…read more It was June 11 & 12. Cute little resort. Had all the amenities we needed. However, I was surprised there was no central sanitary dump as I assumed and most reputable camp grounds that offer RV sites always have a dump station regardless of individual site connections. You should know that if you need to dump your RV tanks and reserve a partial hookup site, they will charge you $20 to use one of the full hookup sites sanitary dump. If those full hookup sites are full you are shit out of luck. Also know the laundry facility is $10 for the room key. Machines are no cost (if they work). So do as many loads as you can. Bathrooms are relatively clean. Expect to wait a while if the park is full as there is only one shower. Opps! Beware of charges to your credit card. There are many review comments abroad about this facility potentially scamming customers with faulty or dishonest charges without their permission. Check and double check your current and pending charges on your card (before and after) leaving the resort. Websites can be deceiving: Resort website says Crater Lake is 7 -8 miles (not correct) from resort as well as 30 minutes. It's actually approx. 22 miles. Not a big deal but that should really be reflected honestly. Note to business owner Matthew: Lots of negative or oddly worded back comments from him to those customers with less than positive reviews. Thats definately not a good look. And yes, people do read them and make decisions based on those negative reviews. The ladies at the front desk: Wow, I had to walk on egg shells. One was complaining about another customer when I entered the door. Again, not a good look. It seemed as though they both were bothered by check-ins. Love the community pizza oven and gas grill. Did not get a chance to use them. This is a great place for your dog to romp in the grass Nearest grocery store is 8-9 miles away. The Resort Store has some dry goods; canned junk and frozen things. So be sure to come prepared. Especially if you want to eat healthy nutritional.

The on-site store had very limited essentials and only accepted cash. We were told the card machine was down, but another family checking out after a multi-day stay said it had been broken the entire time. There was no prior notice about the cash-only setup, not even an email, and that made things unnecessarily difficult for travelers just passing through. The mosquitoes were relentless. My sister, who is allergic, got bitten all over within minutes. There was no warning or signage about the bug situation and no repellents or advice offered during check-in. We ended up buying Benadryl and bug spray from the store, which thankfully helped, but it was expensive and wiped out all the cash we had. The man working at the store was incredibly kind and tried his best to help us, which we really appreciated. Inside the cabin, the space was cute and cozy but basic. There weren't many toiletries provided, so definitely bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. That said, we were really happy to have an oven and a sink, which gave us the option to cook and clean on our own. After days of road trip meals and takeout, that felt like a luxury. We also saw birds foraging near the cabin and got to canoe on the creek for free. That ended up being one of the most peaceful and memorable parts of our trip. My mom and I shared a quiet moment on the water that made the visit feel special in spite of the rough patches. This place has a lot of potential and could be great for people who arrive fully stocked and prepared. With better communication about the cash policy, mosquitoes, and what amenities are or aren't included, it could be much more welcoming for short-term visitors.

That host cost you money. I hope you at least talk to the person. She has a bad attitude and we did not. I guess she was freaked out because it was busy? To be fair, this was one of the busiest weekends I've ever seen there. As a business owner myself, I understand that on extremely busy days things don't always go as planned, and because of that I was willing to overlook quite a bit. We stayed in Chipmunk Condo Cabin #3. The cabin had a musty smell and a very small bathroom. The beach area was great for families, and my daughter absolutely loved it. The biggest issue was the food and customer service. Around 2 PM on our first day, we stopped to get pizza for lunch while waiting for our cabin and found out they were already sold out. Since there aren't many nearby dining options, I stopped by the lodge around 6:45 PM to specifically ask when they stopped seating guests. The two younger employees seemed annoyed and unsure but eventually told me the last seating would be at 7:45 PM. I explained that I was traveling with my wife, a 2-year-old, and a 3-month-old, and that driving an hour to Ashland or Klamath Falls for dinner wasn't ideal. We hurried back to the cabin, got ready, and returned around 7:35 PM, only to be immediately told they couldn't seat us because they were too busy and had a large party. My question was simple: Why wasn't I told that when I specifically came in earlier to ask? Had they explained the situation, I would have gladly come sooner. After asking to speak with a manager, who never actually came out, we were suddenly able to be seated. Once inside, there were several empty tables available, which made the whole situation even more confusing. Our server seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down. We decided to order our food to go instead of dining in, and even that seemed to bother him. When I politely provided feedback about the miscommunication, his response was essentially, "Well, we got you seated, didn't we?" That completely missed the point. The issue wasn't whether we eventually got a table. The issue was being given incorrect information and then nearly being turned away despite arriving before the stated seating cutoff. The next morning, we discovered mice had chewed through snacks we had left on the kitchen counter overnight. There are no cabinets available to store food. When I reported it, the manager apologized and explained that even the cabin she lives in on-site has mice because they're in the forest. While that explanation makes sense, it didn't make my wife feel any better with a 3-month-old baby sleeping in the cabin. The second day, pizza was available for lunch and was actually very good. The older gentleman working there was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, when we returned around 6 PM for dinner, pizza was sold out again. My wife then tried ordering dinner to go from the lodge and was given a completely different takeout menu that excluded many of the better dinner options, including items we had ordered to go the night before. When she asked if she could order from the regular dinner menu, she was told absolutely not. The inconsistency made no sense. At that point, we'd had enough. Between the restaurant issues, the mice, and the overall lack of customer service, we decided to cut our trip short and leave a day early. The lake and beach are beautiful and have the potential to make this a great family destination. Unfortunately, poor communication, inconsistent service, restaurant issues, and mice in the cabins overshadowed what could have been a wonderful stay. Mice may be part of being in the woods, but regular preventative pest control inside the cabins would go a long way toward making guests feel more comfortable.

This turned out to be the perfect resting point to enjoy a day driving through the Oregon Outback and then a day at Lava Beds exploring the lava tubes, with easy access to Klamath Falls museums. It was incredible from the grandkids on down, everyone said that this was the best family holiday we ever went on. You feel like they are including you into their family.
