When traveling,and looking for yoga you never really know if it's the class and/or studio for you. I always love the journey and am super happy we found Shakti. It's our 2nd year in Aspen around the same time- January, and we decided to sign up for their 10 pack which graciously allows you to share it with your crew. This worked so good for us since we are not here often, and never know who and how many will be up for a class. I attended 3 classes this week during my short trip and had 3 different instructors. We enjoyed them all. The space itself is very inviting, clean and accessible to any area you decided to stay in. We had super nice welcoming staff. The mat and towel was included. Glad we found our studio. read more

January 1st Yoga @movespacemagic ( Jamie ) led such beautiful (L2/3) flow @aspenshakti Jamie centered the class w/ inspiring words to begin the new year. Her adjustment in pigeon was sensational. After savasana, she sang to the class with such an angelic voice that filled my heart so full. I loved how she played music during vinyasa also! A little yoga, a little dance, a little kickboxing, A LOT OF FUN. I haven't taken a class at Shakti that I haven't loved. Five Stars, Five Stars , FIVE STARS!!!! I love this yoga studio! As a long time local it is so nice to have a yoga studio that embodies what yoga is truly about. Shakti has such a well rounded staff that teaches all sorts of classes for every level. They have everything from restorative yoga, Hatha yoga, Pilates, dance classes and flow classes that are going to make you sweat! The staff actually cares about you and remembers you when you go in. Jamie, the office manager knew my name from day one! Jayne the owner is an amazing soul who pours her heart into her studio and her classes. Her classes are so fun and an amazing workout! The studio space is so beautiful that I love going there and always get to class early so I can enjoy the atmosphere. They also have an amazing gift shop full of all sorts of goodies and great yoga clothes. If you are visiting town or if you live in Aspen and are looking for a new studio go to Shakti. Their love and energy will be better than anything you could expect. Also they are no longer at the location next to the bar. So no cigarette smoke! It smells amazing in there! They are in a new location and the whole studio is downstairs for a very private and intimate experience. read more

I am so happy that I went through Shakti to organize a private yoga class for my bachelorette party. The instructor Courtney was so fun and thoughtful. The class was taught outside in a meadow in Aspen overlooking the beautiful fall colors. Courtney also brought us champagne and little notecards for all my girls to write me a thoughtful note for my wedding. She completely went with the vibe of our group and modified for people that had never done yoga. I would highly recommend this for any group trip and looking forward to taking a real class at this studio next time I'm in Aspen! read more

Yoga is rarely a true fit in materially wealthy communities and Shakti, located in Aspen and charging $28 for a drop-in class compared to a national average of $15-18, doesn't escape the rule. Whereas the owner was friendly, the reception staff displayed all the attributes of entitlement - material and spiritual, - from her fake, passive aggressive welcome (eyes racing up and down my body for information that I fit into this exclusive "community" where your wallet, not your smile, gives you semi-entry) to her inability to use a bit of kindness or basic customer service skills to explain the various packages. When enquiring about a special rate I had heard of, she answered "oh, that's like (pause) for normal people. People who are working class." The class itself was ok, but as a yoga teacher, I'm looking to learn from other teachers. The cues I heard where mostly about "doing something" rather than HOW to do it. So pretty average class for me. If you're in Aspen, I recommend a self practice, or just a nice hike outdoors. Better an authentic connection with nature than a fake experience in an overpriced studio where everything is about how your appearance will be perceived. read more

I've spent a lot of time in yoga studios around the world and this is by far my favorite. Beginning with the teachers who are all gifted in their craft of spreading love and light and knowledgeable lessons in the many aspects of yoga. Jayne- with her creative and inspirational dance Buddhist moves and powerful messages has shaped the community by sharing her love of yoga in all forms. I especially love when she shares her kundalini practice. You will know for sure this studio is unique when taking one of her classes as her devotion to the practice is seen in all she does. Jaime has the voice of an angel and inspiration of a goddess, she has moved me to tears in every sivasana with her beautiful gift. Roger continues to challenge my abilities to chattaranga with his powerful moves and abiIity to evoke meaning in every asana. And Ashlyn who has brought yoga sculpt to this town and is helping to mold bodies and minds to the incredible empowerment of yoga. Im so grateful for these teachers who continue to inspire me in finding connection and growth in the experience of life. The yoga challenge provides an opportunity for the community to unite in the darkest times of the year when we all need it the most. I love everything about this studio from the ambiance to the beautiful lighting and inspirational messages to the alters of devotion. Oh I almost forgot- Jayne's class on Monday nights include a live DJ - Bhakti or Kevin - who add rhythmic dynamic to vinyasa with their musical beats. I Love you all read more

Namaskar Shakti Society! I'm very glad I let my heart and soul guide me to this authentic, warm and serene yoga den. As a guest from out of town, it can be hard to select a spot with integrity for the classical forms, as well as an inviting, inclusive staff. Both were present as I entered the space - beautiful dim lighting, wood interior decor, and an amazing Quan Yin statue, avatar of compassion allowed me to breathe in the present moment with joy. Jen, my instructor was real, kind and understanding with each of us. We all left our Yin restorative class feeling more alive less sore, relaxed and happy. What a great practice last night. I used to do yoga with Shakti this past summer on top of AJAX. Never had a chance to check out this beautiful studio in downtown Aspen. Yesterday was a practice full of love and peace. Jayne(the owner) makes sure you stay focused on breathing a lot that helps you to complete a difficult pose. Beautiful studio. Very relaxing atmosphere and my yogi instructor was great, and very friendly! Was surprised there weren't more people in the class on a Saturday, but then again coming from Denver to Aspen the people are probably skiing during the weekend. New studio incredible floor space unfortunately it is right next door to a bar and there is a heavy cigarette smoke smell in the studio from the bar patrons smoking outside . Studio door is always open heavy smoke drifts in and it ruins the yoga practice have left the studio three times now with a headache .. Asked girl at desk two days in a row to please shut front door she did third class door was open smoke was heavy had headache left class early will never go back No way around the bad cigarette smoke it will always drift into that studio from the bar next door very unhealthy ! read more
