Great gym, but toxic and unprofessional management. I've enjoyed being a member at Jean Robert's, but I am appalled by the owner's wife's behavior tonight. A member slightly lowered the music volume in the back room (it was excessively loud), and the owner's wife immediately stormed out and began a loud, aggressive argument with him, yelling, "Do not touch that!" When he tried to explain that the volume was too high, she doubled down and screamed, "Then you can go someplace else!" I chimed in to agree with him, shocked at how she was speaking to him over such a trival matter, and she told me I could 'go someplace else too.' I am stunned that a business owner would treat paying customers with such blatant hostility and tell them to leave over a simple volume request. Unprofessional, unwelcoming, and completely unacceptable. Possibly I caught her on a bad night? Jean Robert is such a nice man, says hello to everyone and always has a smile. read more

This gym has every machine that no one will ever use and only one of each machine that everyone wants to use. Also, the owner insists on playing Fox News on the TVs, so you're forced to rot your brain as you work to enhance your body. read more

I'm shocked by how this gym speaks to its members. It's astonishing they are still in business. The cleanliness needs work, it's shabby and unkept. The worst part is their tone when you have a question. It's not the aspen spirit. Truly on edge for no reason whatsoever. Cancelling asap, never coning here again. For the past couple of weeks I've had the privilege of working out with Jean-Robert. He loves his work. He has dedicated his life to fitness and it shows 100% in his gym. I wish I could work out with him full time, but I am only in Aspen over the summers. My personal training workouts have been amazing, and I can feel the difference even in a short amount of time. The gym is beautiful, and most of the machines I have never used at other gyms. I wish other gyms had such well thought out machines that focus on the parts of your body that really need the work! If you live in Aspen you are lucky to have Jean-Robert's gym right in the center of town! I'm looking forward to working out at this gym next summer for sure! read more

Is this the BEST gym I have ever been to? No. That being said, I knew that going in. I have lived and traveled all over the world, so I was aware of what I was walking in to. This is a zero frills, very overpriced facility, but it's Aspen, so I wasn't shocked. This gym, absolutely, needs to update the upstairs locker rooms. They charge more for the upstairs, and I wouldn't shower there if my life depended on it. Take care of the people who are supporting the ridiculous prices. Take a cue form gyms like Equinox. That being said, JR and Bernadette are EXCELLENT trainers, kind, and attentive. There are not any good options, for gyms, in Aspen. That being said, if you need a trainer, or have your own routine dialed in, plus you have the $$$ to spend, this is your best option. I've heard they have classes, but yet to meet anyone who has taken any. read more

Was yelled/swore at by a one Edgar Orellana who works the front desk there apparently (from what the receptionist told me this is a regular thing with Edgar). Was taking a kettlebell upstairs when this short king started screaming at me about putting the kettlebell back downstairs and that I had left it out last time (my first time going to this gym), and F this and F that. Anyway no one from management seemed to care and it looks like he'll be there for a while given that this just apparently happens with him because he "thinks he owns the gym" as the receptionist explained. Not surprisingly, Aspen didn't have a Planet Fitness. Since my hotel didn't have a gym (what?!) I was forced to find alternate locations to work out. Of the 5 day passes I got, I was only able to use one. I got the flu shortly after I arrived and spent the rest of my trip sick and/or recovering. BUT my time here was awesome. This place has a deceivingly large footprint for the relatively small area it takes up. A good portion of the gym is underground, but don't let that deter you. Upstairs: A nonchalant mixture of cardio, machines, free weights, training, and one of the best views I've ever had while working out. Bright, sunny, and full of windows. Not quite Upstairs: More cardio, more machines, more everything. Downstairs: Amazing locker rooms, lap pool, rock climbing wall, class areas, and a full sized spin room. I only had an hour and a half to work out there, but I could have easily spent half a day using everything. The machines were the newest I've ever used - apparently redesigned, traditional chest, shoulder, etc. machines are much less stationary. Example: while doing the shoulder press, the seat and back actually moved back at an angle corresponding with how high I lifted the shoulder bar. This reduced the strain on the rest of my body and I was able to do more reps at a slightly higher weight than usual. Pricey membership I'm sure, but this is Aspen. Everything is $. If you ask really nicely, the Molly Gibson & Hotel Aspen have free day passes. They also offer a 20% discount on the week pass rate, which was $98 while I was there. Altitude Tip: Bring more water than I did, which was none (0) bottles. Water fountains were helpful, but only available after 30 minutes on the cross trainer. read more

My review is only based on the massage I got with Patrick. I came with painfull body after an intensive week of work, cross fit and pilates on a daily base. He is very nice person, calming & welcoming, the massage was great, I feel new. Easy to tell that he is passionate about what he does! Thank you and I will be back soon read more

I took the full circuit training class with Britny. She's knowledgeable, attentive and has the affection of her class. The upstairs facility is very nice. Due to what looks like the end of my rugby career I won't be back to Aspen, so neither this facility after two more weekend visits. But I've appreciated it, and also recommend Britny. read more

Just did my first circuit training class with Alex and while I probably won't be able to move tomorrow I definitely need it. Alex is tough but kind and won't let you quit on yourself. The class is fun too! Just be sure to bring a water bottle. I've done Buti yoga with Bernadette and been inspired to move faster and more gracefully with her. I'm not there yet but her yoga class is fun, energetic and definitely a workout! The facility is always clean and the equipment is in great shape for how many people use it daily. Haven't used the pool/sauna but I'm sure they're nice too. Great membership prices for all that you get!!! read more

I have been trying to cancel this membership for two months but have not had any luck with their 'billing office'. The employees are not very helpful with trying to assist with this issue either besides being able to offer you a number to call. Had three memberships at this gym, my son's, my wife's and my own- cancelled all of them. Jean and his wife are co owners of this gym and live in a bubble and think the world of themselves because they live in a small town. Since there are not many gym options in the area, they will gauge you in membership dues for a mediocre facility and provide very little value for what you're paying. Jean most of all just rubs me the wrong way. Just a pompous terd who needs to be sent home. Do yourself a favor and buy a peloton if you're a local. Or go for a bike ride. You'll avoid having to deal with these business owners who are just awful people. read more

Was accused of going into the aspen location when I only had a basalt membership. They left a nasty voicemail without confirming it was me. When I called back and told them I've never once been to the aspen location they proceeded to tell me I was lying and they have me on camera. Come to find out it was a female not me on camera a male and told me they would give me a free month to my gym in basalt and the aspen location. This month I was charged and when I called the aspen location to understand why? They proceeded to tell me it was only for the aspen location even though I've never been and would've canceled if that was the original form of compensation for they're rudeness and lack of customer service. $90 a month for this gym is laughable especially adding to the level of service they give. read more

I went only as a guest for a few days as I was in Aspen for vacation. The gym is great - the people however are certainly not welcoming to visitors. read more

Jean Robert is an idiot. He gives horrible customer service to his clients. He has a pompous demeanor which is infuriating knowing I pay so much for such limited facilities. Used to be a great gym. Now has multiple broken pieces of equipment that no one seems to care about fixing and have been in disrepair for months. Very little attention is paid to serving the members at JR's Gym. If one belongs to Jean Robert's Gym on the upper level, treatment is entirely different as membership cost is double. Employees are Super not helpful here and are happy to sell 35 dollar day passes but don't Mention they have a week pass for 98 dollars until day 3 after I have already spent That in day passes . If these options would have been presented to me or if they would of honored the other two days at least I wouldn't say costumer service sucks. But The fact is they have a bunch of front desk employees with no autonomy to Make a decision and try and satisfy their costumer instead it's a simple "I just work here and don't make the rules". I went in this morning at 7:45am and 10 minutes later I was accosted by a very rude employee named Kathy who shamed me for not knowing the weekend hours. It was the rudest customer service I have ever experienced and I wish I had joined another gym. The upstairs fitness area is top of the line equipment. Downstairs is more traditional. Entire gym fulfills any fitness needs.

If you're looking to get a massage - GO ELSEWHERE. "Kayla" at the front desk is a true nightmare to even have a conversation with. My mother in law purchased me a massage for my 30th birthday. When I called to make an appt, Kayla told me someone already came to pick up my gift card (funny considering my MIL lives all the way across the country in Connecticut). When I said they must have mistakenly given my gift card away to someone else, I was called a liar and accused of coming in to get it myself. I decided to go get the massage and deal with it after. I found they charged my card and my mother in laws card for one massage. When I called to rectify this, Kayla picked up the phone and accused me again of coming in to pick up the gift card. I was then told "it's really busy right now and I can't deal with this", I was promptly hung up on. It is truly the worst customer service I've ever experienced in Aspen. Sadly, I used to frequent JR's on a monthly basis for a massage with Patrick, but I will never step foot in that business again. Jean-Robert himself came down to try and fix the situation, and I was barely met with an apology. Simply justifications on behalf of his incompetent employee's attitude. It was supposed to be my 30th birthday gift, it was supposed to be relaxing. Instead, I received a headache and was publicly accused of lying, stealing and calling names (for the record over the phone I said this entire situation was bulls**t, which we all can agree -it is). JR should hire employees without resentment contempt and update his gift card system. It isn't my problem that his system is flawed and his employees are impudent and disrespectful. read more

A little pricey for the age of the equipment and the size of the gym, HOWEVER, it is the only real gym in Aspen and does the job. I joined for the summer to JR's Gym, the downstairs portion with the older equipment to save $70ish per month, as opposed to the full membership. The whole gym needs updating, from the locker rooms to the equipment. But as I said, it does the trick. As a member of Equinox in New York, I am used to paying a lot for a gym! I've learned out here that Aspen and New York prices are on par with each other! read more

The pool is only 16 yds long and painted black so you can't see the ends and with a short pool that's a big problem, might want to wear a helmet. Kept spin bikes parked in front of the climbing wall making it unusable, just got attitude when I asked them to be moved to the other side of the room. Got nicked for a CC bounce fee when my # got stolen before I even knew it was stolen. When I called to ask about getting it removed and give them my new # they said they don't deal with the company that processes all their payments (!) and I had to deal with it. After I said I would prefer to deal directly with them they suggested I look elsewhere for a place to swim, climb, workout! Very petty behavior but I did what they said and am much happier at the Aspen Rec Center, cheaper and much better facilities. So I would give this place a major fail, go the the Rec center, 11$ vs 20$ for a day pass,and a bright, clean real pool and a climbing wall you can actually use. read more

I went for a massage with, an "experienced" masseuse for a very bad back, but instead got talked to the entire time and in all honesty he didn't do much. It was $145, for honestly, the worst massage I have ever gotten. If I wanted to get to get my muscles relaxed because of chronic pain, but instead had to talk to Patrick about what his "diagnosis" was. I have PT for that. It was the worst massage I have ever had.
