Any place that sells Kühl gear is a place worth supporting. It's not as big as the other outdoor shop in town but they hold their own. They have a rather large skateboard section so I guess that's a think in Flag. Men's and women's gear, hiking boots, some tents and sleeping bags. Worth a stop in my opinion. read more

Yes, I am overweight and yes, I was looking for hiking gear, because why can't an overweight person start hiking/working out without the proper equipment? We swung in here to check out their selection during our stay in Flagstaff yesterday; I was looking for a new water bladder and even though I didn't find one that I could use for the pack I was using at the time, I really loved how they have a hand washing rig set up at the front of their store & they asked us to wash our hands before fully entering. Of course we took delight in this (simple, yet effective!) system since it was (just) a bucket, with an attached pump that you step on which pumps water out through a copper spigot. The only thing that was a lil hard to do was getting the soap dispenser to pump out soap since it's one you stick on a bathroom wall, and this was on a grid so you kinda had to squeeze the grid and the soap dispenser to make it work - but it worked! The selection of camping/hiking accessories and necessities were great - they have many different kinds of water bladders, clips, sleeping bags, light pullovers, some sling bags, sandals, backpacks, etc. The upstairs was a skateboard area which also made this shop more unique as it catered to more than just the camping & hiking public! The selection of boards, trucks, and also the colorful wall of frisbees really made it great to include these kinds of sports inside a mostly-geared-towards-camping/hiker shop! read more

Love Aspen sports. Always a good selection of Kuhl brand clothes. Definitely one of the better sports gear/hiking gear places in town. No offense REI, but I do like shopping local first. As for those complaining about not getting help- never had a problem, employees there are always cheerful and eager to help. read more

My husband, daughter and I walked in here to get a carabiner . There was a young man and young woman standing at the door chatting. I asked if they had any large ones and the young man said, "Huh? Oh yeah, they're in the back" and then proceeded to go back to talking. So, I asked him, "Where in the back?" and he pointed. At that point, I'm thinking, crap, I'll just go to the back and hunt them down. The young woman with him said, I'll help you because they're in a case. So, I'm wondering. If I walked all the way to the back and found them and found one that I wanted, would I then have to drag my 4 year old back to the front to find that guy and then ask him to walk back with us to get the carabiner out of the glass case to buy it? Thank goodness the young lady understood we needed help and assisted us and showed us where it was and got it out of the glass case. My husband didn't even want to spend money in this place after the way we were treated, but we were there and I needed it. Hoping it was just an off day for the store. read more

This is THE place to get Jack's Plastics, for your river adventures. Aspen is a bit more dialed in to rafting issues than at other shops. A couple employees give solid, non pushy, customer service. I like that I can browse with out pressure, but am volunteered more information when I am handling something specific. The other employees seem to be less invested in the world of customer service, and at times, are too cool. It should be noted that the "cool kids" phenomenon is not just limited to this shop. Aspen has the best disc-golf disc selection, but at a slightly higher price point. I get my specialty discs here, but run of the mill ones elsewhere. I bought some sweet "blue blocker" style turquoise Spy sunglasses here for a decent price. I think they have the best selection for hiking/camping/climbing books. They have good end of season sales. read more

Love Aspen Sports. This is one of those places that we need to keep him business as locals so that these super cool places can survive. I love its location, it is conveniently located in downtown Flagstaff and it seriously has everything that the big box stores have. If you are a true Outdoors person this is your One-Stop to get your goods before you go on any of the amazing hikes that Flagstaff has to offer. They have the top brands at what I would consider to be a decent price. If it is a little pricier then some of the big box stores it is because they have a crazy high rent and a smaller inventory. This is also an awesome place to shop for the person who has everything on your Christmas list. They have tons of doodads and gadgets and it makes for some really creative shopping. The only reason they do not get five stars for me is that the customer service is almost non-existent. You will walk in and not get greeted and you will have to search for someone to help you if you do run across a question. This is the only downside to this place but certainly this could be rectified if the manager on duty would step it up a bit in realize that customer service is an intrical part of the retail experience and it will need to be improved on if they are to continue to compete with the big dogs in town. I love this place cuz it's local and it's been here forever and I hope that we as a group can keep them in business for years to come. read more

I came here because the wind has been horribly gusty and . . . horrible from Hesperia along I-40. Like dry eyes and unbearable to be out windy. I was looking for some wind goggles and found some here for $11. Shut the front door. They had a lot of sunglasses and some really cute bags and bathing suits, and, you know, sports things. The cashier girl was really cool and friendly. I can dig this place. read more

Selection seems to be good but getting anyone to help you is a feat. I don't know if I've turned invisible since I don't look like everyone else in the store but yes! overweight people buy hiking clothes. Only good thing is we were able to try on a pair new chacos to make sure we like them BUT we will buy them elsewhere. read more

Complete lack of customer service. Entering the store the girl working didn't even take the time to lift her eyes from her phone. The other woman working in the back also never engaged at any point or even asked if we needed assistance. After finally settling on a purchase my 2 year old son, who is in the process of potty training, told us he needed to use the bathroom. We asked the woman working in the back if we could please use the bathroom for our son who we are potty training. She proceeded to tell us we could walk down the street to Heritage square to use their public restrooms. My wife reiterated it wasn't for us and we just needed to urgently use a bathroom for our toddler. The employee then decided to tell my wife "honey we don't have public restrooms". Total lack of customer service for guests who have frequented your store for well over 20 years and the reasoning for why this will be our last visit. Unfortunately, as much as I attempt to frequent local businesses in our community, this interaction sure makes an option like REI seem more appealing. read more

Place is a joke! Bought a pair of pants and when I tried them on they were a size too small. Went to return them not for a refund but just to get a size larger and because I ripped off the tag they wouldn't do the exchange. Unbelievable! And the guy at the register couldn't have been more disrespectful about the situation... Never again! read more

Great place to get all your gear, selling just about anything you need to stay in the outdoors. Staff are super friendly and know a lot, but if they don't know what you're looking for, they take the time to research and will want to learn more. They are super patient and are very fun to converse with. They have an entire wall decorated like a rainbow to disc golf and carry many different brands, all decently priced. There is always a variety of clothes to get lost in, especially representing so many brands! Wishing they had Arc'teryx though. Climbing gear is a little slim but they carry what a beginner should need. The thing that struck me odd was their skateboard selections, an outdoor retailer having skateboards? Definitely worth checking out this store! read more

I asked for a full snowboard tune, which costs $25 and is supposed to include a filing of the edges, stone edge finishing and a complete wax. When I picked up the board the edges still had burs and scratches and the base still had minor gouges. read more
