Great selection of local photographers post cards- definitely pick one up!

Overall, a lot of options, but don't seem to have what I need when I go in. Prices feel exorbitant to cover downtown rent. Staff are friendly when you get their attention, but don't seem to feisty to make a sale. I'm guessing no one is working on commission. Overall good quality items that are stylish with a wide variety of options for each thing but the prices are definitely on the higher end

Great old storefront & outdoor wear.

Right smack dab in the middle of the the Flagstaff historic district lies Babbit's Backcountry Outfitters. Location, location! This is very hard to miss and if you're heading out or planning to head out into the the "Great Wide" then you really should not miss this! Full selection of all your outdoorsy needs, from foot wear to headlamps, tents, research material, snowshoes, to pullovers and under gear. Though I do have to add their prices are be bit on the uppity end, but they only stock high quality items. Besides, you wouldn't want to find yourself wishing you had brought a sturdier tent or breathable, drip dry clothing. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Just don't let them fool you about finding the fearsome Jackalope!!!

Great store for outdoor gear and a decent selection of clothing, too. This is the only place I have seen that carries Mystery Ranch bags. Staff is friendly and the building infrastructure is rad.

Love the Girl w/pearl earring and Diego Rivera paintings altered with backpacks

Located on the corner in a prominent brick building Babitts competes with Peace Surplus for title of largest outdoor gear store in Flagstaff. There are a lot of outdoor stores in Flagstaff and they are all within walking distance of each other. Babbit's is housed in the most impressive building and it was the first shop we went to when we visited Flagstaff. They didn't have what we were looking for which was a guide book for climbing in Az so we ended up making the rounds to the other stores looking for our book. We did receive friendly service from a cute blond girl and although her co workers were huddled around the cash wrap socializing she pulled herself away to help us with our questions and when we couldn't find what we were looking for she recommended other places in town to continue our search, although she pointed us in the wrong direction when it came to the location of the climbing gym. We had a nice tour of Flagstaff because of it and saw parts of the city we probably wouldn't have otherwise, and considering it was a beautiful sunny fall day we didn't mind walking around lost in circles.

A view above Sedona, where we camped!

Even though none of them fit my husband's feet and we left without buying anything, the salesman was very gracious and beyond helpful.

My hubs has a condition that causes shakiness and instability. They were so cordial and acted like that was no big deal and were able to offer solutions for him to be able to do XC with me. Huge selection of everything you could possibly need or want for a day of snow fun. They do complete rentals and of course sales as well. Prices and policies were reasonable. I would definitely use them again. Thank you for helping us to have the perfect trip!

I'd been keeping an eye on the reviews on All Trails (one of the very few features I actually like on that app, but that's a story for another day) and knew several weeks in advance that snow on the mountain was a distinct possibility. When I made eye contact with Humphreys two days before summiting and literally saw tons of snow from about 60 miles away - along with very recent reviews warning about it - I knew I had to make a pit stop beforehand. It would PROBABLY be an exaggeration to say Peace Surplus saved my life, but without it (and its supplies), I don't think I get to the top of Humphreys Peak, or even close. I stopped by last Sunday, the day before my hike, knowing that I needed to get some type of traction on my hindpaws. I considered getting poles (which I've been mulling for years - we're getting close there), but the spikes for the hiking sneakers seemed paramount. I located them very easily right off to the side of the shoe section. I honestly don't know if $62 for these is insane or not, but they made the difference the following day so I can't sit here and say they aren't worth it. An absolute gamechanger, and something I can use going forward in less dramatic adventures if there's icy/snowy conditions afoot. Beyond my primary purchase, I was very intrigued by the little food/grocery store section off to the side by the entrance. It has a lot of hiking snacks that can usually be procured easily at a gas station (cough cough Clif Bar cough cough), but also the ones that are a bit harder to find without Amazon's help, like the Honey Stinger waffle, which for sure came in handy the following morning. There's a definite emphasis on overnight camping/thru-hiking, so there were quite a few freeze-dried dinners, etc. as well. It was an impressive selection. Everyone here was super friendly and nice. The people at the register immediately looked around for another potential customer to ring up the minute they were done with their prior patron, and several times I could overhear presumably managers spitballing how to allocate their staff based on where the immediate needs were. While I was in there, a few employees were outside handling a holiday sale, I believe, so I imagine it gets a little tougher to gameplan when literally some of your people aren't even in the store. No wasted energy at this place. I don't feel like I did more than skim the surface of what this store offered, but they had what I wanted and needed in the moment, and for sure they get some credit for my successful Humphreys ascent. Give Peace a chance.

Matt spent a ton of time with me, asked all the right questions about how I ski (trees, bumps, charging variable snow, & park), and straight-up put me onto the Salomon QST 100s. He nailed it - they're absolutely perfect for the way I ride here. Mount point, base grind, and edges were dialed on the spot. The Armada boot fitting was on point. Appreciated the fact Matt wasn't trying to upsell anything extra for the boots until I rode in them at least once. Have noticed at other shops they'll try to upsell you on the fitting only to realize you didn't need it, but easily the most comfortable boots I've ever owned, and it only took one session. No rush, no hard sell, just Matt and the crew genuinely geeking out on getting everything perfect. This place still feels like the classic local ski shop that actually lives on the mountain. Huge thanks to Matt and everyone at Ski Haus - you've got a customer for life. If you're anywhere in Arizona and need gear that's set up right for Snowbowl, do yourself a favor and go here.
