Fortunately there have been only rare occasions to be a patient, but when your life is in someone else's hands, this is my first choice. The Good!!! ER Doc is amazing!!! He was so thurough, and helpful. Dr. Ayer's his nurse was awesome! They worked really hard to help me. I really had a tricky thing going on with my arm for tendonitis, or that is what i believe it is. Only because it flares at night still constantly. My battle wasnt the ER. It was having to jump through hoops with insurance. And never getting an MRI because of insurance. Even though i still believe the imaging is still desperately needed. ER did all they could for me. X rays were taken. But no, mri so sadly thanks to insurances being slow. I had to wait in pain for months after the ER. Im still in pain nightly as im writing this even just to say it isnt the Doctors. Its not your nurses. Sometimes insurance keeps people from having don what is urgently needed. Im 3 months in and still waiting to find an MRI imaging in network!!! I also have a very physical job. I do sports recovery work im stretching people constanly and doing dt and soft tissue work manually. Everytime i would work it would flare up more depending on my work load that day. I had to back off of it.( Left arm) bicep. Was referred to Steadman. Doc said elbow sprain reframe from hard overuse til inflammation goes down. Makes sense. Unless you have a career and have to work to pay bills. But they still believe i may have torn it. Slightly. Which means it could possibly rupture if i overload that tendon. Ive been dealing with it constantly. Im just really annoyed with insurance companies. The hospital was great though and steadman clinic. So dont give up hope. Stay on it. Call your insurance. Thats insurances Job! Not the Doc's. So if they are able to help you at all. Just be thankful. read more

This hospital is amazing. I broke the neck of my femur. The doctor was there immediately and explained the whole procedure. My follow up doctor was very impressed with the surgeon work. I received the best service, they took really good care of me. The nurses were very attentive. I highly recommend this hospital. read more

The level of incompetency in this place is mind blowing. There is apparently no one trained in the basics of just checking people in or answering general questions, so don't expect any form of customer service. You can't even get an answer on whether or not the hospital can help you before you have to come all the way down there just to be told oh well they won't do your bloodwork without an appointment or something that can legally be answered over the phone. It's pure laziness. I called and spoke to someone in the ER and then called back and spoke to an administrator because of how rudely I was treated. The administrator herself then proceeded to interrupt me just as the ER nurse had done and before understanding what it was I was really looking for. After she interrupted me she even said "well I don't know what it is you're really looking for..." Well maybe if you knew how to talk to the people or treat them decently, I wouldn't be writing this review. Just better cross your fingers and hope you don't need saving because it's doubtful AVH would actually be able to do the job or want to. Here are the facts: -I am from out of town, and was visiting my sister who lives in Aspen. -I had a VERY painful affliction in my mouth. -I went to the Snowmass Clinic. -The doctor saw me for less than 5 minutes, enough time for me to tell him about my injury and how I had been treating it. -He parroted the treatment I had been giving myself back to me. -He prescribed me a medicine he knew I would likely be allergic to (and was). -I paid $100 for the visit up front because I didn't have my insurance card with me at the time. -The entire visit cost $331 of which I paid $160. -$110 were "adjusted", meaning they were negotiated away by the insurance company who paid the remaining balance. I paid $160 for a doctor to barely look at me, tell me my own advice, and prescribe a medicine I was allergic to. That's not counting what I pay for insurance. I had to take the medicine I was allergic to and hope that I didn't have a severe reaction because I couldn't afford to go back to the doctor. A friend of mine just got back from Taiwan where she underwent testing for MS. The entire bill for her was $700, including all diagnostic treatment. If you are facing astronomical medical bills, please take the time to read Time Magazine's special report entitled, "Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us", and voice your opinion every time you suffer under the weight of outrageous charges such as these. Everyone is very nice but the amount of mistakes they make are scary. MVFP send them an order for a Covid test. I spoke to Bridget and set up the appointment, she was putting it under the wrong doctor and I corrected her while on the phone making the appointment. When I get to the appointment I noticed they have the wrong doctor written on my lab test and my specimen container. I informed the lab technician and she changed the name on the specimen bottle and the lab order as I sat there. They have done this various times. This is a doctor I no longer use and haven't in six months. I was surprised. For me to be tested they must send an order over, The doctors name is right on the order sheet. They still sent it to the wrong doctor. It was an uncomfortable conversation with the doctor since they did not send over the order and I stopped using her because I was overcharged. If a hospital cannot keep track of what doctor you use when you tell them over and over again who your doctor is, how can I possibly trust them to keep track of my labs and test results. Everyone I have dealt with at the hospital is very nice but I question their aptitude for doing their job. If you have another choice I would recommend going to a different hospital. This review is for the Basalt After Hours Clinic, an Aspen Valley Hospital affiliate. I found myself on a Sunday morning at the Basalt Clinic. I had gone to a different medical facility the previous Thurs. But my condition was worsening. Dr. Seymour, Nurse Paula and x-ray tech Paul were working that Sunday. They were all very friendly, helpful, efficient and professional. My wait time was minimal. Dr. Seymour correctly diagnosed my condition. He asked me lots of questions, did a thorough exam and listened to me. He made me feel very cared for. I left the office knowing I had received excellent care and would be on the mend. In addition to the initial exam, I had a follow up appointment with Dr. Seymour a couple of days later. He asked me to call several times, after the follow up visit, to give him updates. I can emphatically say that I received exceptional care at the Basalt After Hours Clinic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or go back again. read more

Arrogant, inaccurate, and dangerous doctors! Took my dad there after symptoms of bronchitis set in. He tried to explain to the doctor that he's had this many times, knows his system, and knows he needs antibiotics. The doctor disregarded all of his feedback and insisted that it was viral, and that nothing could be administered except inhalers. We knew from Dad's symptoms that the doctor was totally wrong. Sure enough, Dad deteriorated rapidly throughout the week, spiking fevers 6 days in a row which is obviously NOT viral. We then took him to a competent doctor here in Denver who confirmed that he'd been completely misdiagnosed, that he needed antibiotics ASAP, and that he's lucky it didn't turn into pneumonia! Thanks, AVH. Your pompous doctor's terrible diagnosis ruined my dad's trip out here. Next time I want to turn someone from bad to worse, I'll send them your way. read more

Aspen Valley Hospital is great if you have a ski accident or an orthopedic issue. However, if something more serious is going on, do yourself a favor and have somebody drive you down to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. A few years ago my father was run to the ER. He was doubled over in abdominal pain. They didn't want to admit him because after trying to diagnose him for an hour they could find no apparent reason for his pain so felt he should suck it up and go home. I told them I wasn't taking him home and they needed to admit him. They did so reluctantly. He spent a week in the hospital undergoing tests, CT scans and observation. His pain seemed to go away so they sent him home. 2 months later the same thing happened and he was taken to Valley View. Immediately they located a tumor the size of a grapefruit and did emergency surgery. He died a few years later in his mid 50's. Had Aspen Valley Hospital done their job, his cancer most likely would have never progressed. He chose not to sue because that's not how he wanted to spend his last years. A couple of years after this happened their radiologist was fired and several mammograms were reviewed. Several problems were found that the radiologist missed and patients were not told about until almost a year later. read more

Like you, I was very apprehensive to visit the ER at a hospital 90% smaller than my big-city hospital back home. But after spending a truly "delightful" (if you can call a hospital stay that) 4 days at Aspen Valley Hospital, I can tell you that its care is top-notch. Quit hesitating, go there now. See those private jets parked at Aspen Airport? See those property values in Aspen? Who do you think goes to Aspen Valley Hospital? Yeah, those people! They demand the best in care. So guess what, you'll get the best in care. I won't go into specifics of my visit, but my wife is an RN at a big-city hospital and she was dually impressed with AVH, also. Here are just a few of the highlights as we got to experience them personally: - 64-slice brand-new CT scanner? Check. - ER staff who have worked in big city, crazy ER's where they see a lot more than skier's knee - Pain control that meets or exceeds standards including PCA pumps - General surgeon who KNOWS his stuff -- even has hundreds of highly specialized GI surgeries on his resume - Top radiologists who read films remotely - Nursing staff and techs who really take time to TALK with patients, understand needs, and CARE for them - Full-service in-room dining menu with concierge ordering - A patient concierge who can coordinate local housing for your spouse and assist with transportation - Billing manager who explained charges easily and was familiar with our insurance and co-pay (Going to the ER - and being admitted - isn't going to be cheap, and the price is based on your insurance, not what the hospital wants to charge) - A hospital CEO who actually stopped to talk with us in the hall AND checked in on me in my room! (Never had that anywhere!) - Surgery suites... well, I can't really comment, I was in La-la land before ever leaving the ER. Looking back on it, if I had to be in the hospital away from home, Aspen was THE place to do it. Beautiful scenery out the window, awesome hospital staff, and really really great medicine. When I'm back in Aspen (and I will be), I'll rest easily -- and snowboard hard -- knowing that there's not some back-water Podunk urgent care... but a real high-end private hospital if I ever need it again. read more

You simply will not find better care and attention to detail anywhere in the U.S.A than this fantastic hospital. My son had two emergency visits in one week here and the staff, nurses and doctors could not have been more kind, patient, and professional. What an incredible experience to meet these fine people! This hospital may be fine if you are mostly healthy and young and suffering from a simple trauma. If you have any kind of complex issues going on, consider a fast drive to Grand Junction or Denver. At all cost avoid Valley View in Glenwood which is where they will send you from Aspen after they decide they can't help. Both AVH and VV are responsible for bungling two minor surgeries and infecting my dad to the point he nearly died twice. They left him permanently handicapped and chronically ill. read more

So disappointed with this hospital. My son came in with testicular pain and the nurse, Chris, asked the first, most important question. "so do you do cocaine"?. the doctor, Balko, was no better. they proceeded to take an ultrasound and stand outside his room laughing about how much pain he must be in loud enough so he could hear, then sent him home. Very, very unprofessional. Actually, bordering on malpractice. 4 days later we were back in the ER with the same issue, the nurse, Mary, was exceptional and wonderful. But the doctor, Bernard, got quite irritated and snippy because he was questioning the diagnosis. Proceeded to tell us that they cant fix anything at the hospital, that is not what they do. And when he mentioned that he felt pulling in his testicles, instead of professionally saying "I am not sure I understand what you mean by that, could you explain to me something else that would feel that way", she instead got really snarky and said "I dont even know what pulling means". I will not return. After being here for 26 years, I had hoped things had changed at this hospital. it hasnt. Go to Valley View, it is worth the drive. read more
