It ended up costing a bit more than the estimate, but the reasons why were explained and I walked away feeling like I got a good price. Cracks appeared, weeds grow through the pavement, a hole appeared, the top layer is peeling when driving on it on a sunny day. We have contacted GMI to express our concerns and the experience has been terrible: blaming everything on us, that they only work with professionals and not "home owners", though really happy to get our $$$. Cracks are "normal" and we should have known that by landscaping they meant adding ledge pack (so obvious...). The hole... again not their fault, as we should have known if the road was prepared properly for them (as if this was my expertise, not theirs). And obviously don't drive and turn on the driveway by a sunny day. They have been super rude, unprofessional. So if you have twelve grand to lose, use GMI!

Being impatient, I almost had a larger paving company do the job. This company was absolutely worth the wait! I truly didn't think it was possible to produce such a perfectly flat and slightly pitched surface. It was interesting to watch his skilled crew gently sweep and walk the smallest imperfection from the surface before rolling it. I watched a young man very carefully scraping with what looked like a 1.5 inch putty knife ,cleaning any asphalt that stuck to my 110 foot long Allen Block wall. WOW! The site was completely clean when they left, not a crum of asphalt in the street or anywhere else it didn't belong. I spoke to the owner and found out there focus is not on the amount of driveways they can pump out in a season, but taking time to produce high quality workmanship.
