This is a review of Associated Retina Consultants' scheduler/scheduling protocol. This is not a review of a specific location or the physicians of the practice. My mother recently had some sudden changes in one of her eyes. I asked my friend, an ophthalmologist with retinal training, for some advice. My friend suggested I see a retinal consultant. I called this practice to make an appointment. They picked up right away and after few initial questions, I tell them the reason for her visit is vision changes. Without any additional information, the lady I spoke to over the phone said that "this is a specialty practice" and my mother should go see her normal eye doctor for vision changes. I asked her to double check with another person and further elaborated my mother's symptoms to her, hoping to communicate that it was not normal vision change. She asked few more questions, one of which I did not know. After clarifying with my mom, I called this practice back to provide them with the information they sought. I spoke with a lady again, not sure if it was the same person. I re-explained everything and when I got to the question I was unsure of earlier, the lady stopped me right away and told me that my mother needed to go see a normal eye doctor first. I verbalized some slight frustration and asked if this was normal protocol. I explained to her that my mother has insurance, that the doctors can examine her and after all is said and done, essentially bill her/make money off her even if there is no intervention needed. The lady responded that this was normal protocol everywhere and refused to give me an appointment. There were few issues with this situation: 1. The lady on the phone essentially advised me to seek care elsewhere. I do not know her credentials but usually people who ARE qualified to make medical decisions are not the initial point-of-contact for phone calls. I believe she made a medical decision without appropriate credentials. If this is simply a "protocol" for the employees to follow, then I do not agree with it and it's probably better I took my business elsewhere. 2. The person(s) I spoke with was extremely rude. Hopefully, she is not a reflection of the rest of their staff. 3. I was able to make a same-day appointment with a competitor's office down the street. Another retinal specialist. Exact. Same. Day. No questions asked. No hassle. My mother got in and out and received the answers she sought. Clearly, this office's employee's claim that "this is protocol everywhere" is ill-advised and false. read more

Was referred by another ophthalmologist for additional review of a condition. After receiving the exact same examination as was performed 2days prior, I was ushered into a meat locker masquerading as a waiting room. After waiting for an hour and 10 minutes and finally getting the attention of support personnel I wastold I e Was "next in line". I was then ushered into an exam room and the door firmly closed. After waiting an additional 10 minutes I finally walked out. This place is horrible! read more

This place (Mesa office) is ridiculously slow. The only reason I'm here is because a year ago this August, my eye doctor told me that my retina was detaching and I needed surgery ASAP. This is where he sent me. No issues with the surgery or the doctor who did the surgery. My issues are with the office when you come in for an appointment. I got here today at 3:30 for a 3:40 appointment. It's now 4:08 and I still haven't even been called. And (as I know from past experiences) once I am called, that's only the first part of the appointment. I go back for the whole "look at the letters and tell me what's blurry" deal and get countless drops in my eyes. They send me back to the waiting room. Then I get called back again to have a laser scan my eyes. Then send me back to the waiting room. Then I get called back a third time to go sit in a room and wait for the doctor to come shine a bright ass light in my eyes and then send me home. Honestly? This is a giant PITA. Why not do everything all at once? Don't make me sit here for two freaking hours every time I come in! Oh, and get a front desk staff that is actually civil to people. The older lady that works there will completely ignore you when you go to check out. She doesn't even acknowledge you if she's busy. It's rude and it's frustrating. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. What is the point of having an "appointment" if you have to wait 2-3 hours once you get there anyways?? We brought our 17 month old daughter in to get her Eye checked for some retna issues. Our appointment was at noon. We didn't get called back until After 1pm our daughter had a diaper blowout and they do not have any sort of Changing table in their whole office. My wife had to change her on a cabinet in the woman's bathroom. They left me wife and I back for the eye dilation and then We were sent back to the waiting room of about 45 more min and when we called back a 2nd time they said "only 1 parent" this place is an absolute joke. While we were waiting MULTIPLE people went and complained or just walked out. We will never bring our daughter back to this place ever again. read more

I bring my mother here every few weeks; the waiting room is nice, with a large television in the front of the room that's always on, & chairs that really aren't too uncomfortable for a waiting room lol! Most waiting are nice, with the once in a while person who wont turn the volume off on their game or who will have a loud conversation on the phone. My mother likes the doctor, who will tell her if her eyes are improving or talks w/her on other options she has. Lastly, most visits can last hours, so bring a snack! Lol! read more

This is the worst Dr's office I have ever been to. The wait time to finally see the doctor can be up to six hours. I wonder if these people would like to wait that long to be seen. If they weren't trying to fill their pockets with money and buy those expensive cars they drive, maybe the wait times would be shorter. read more

Dr. Kwong, in my book is the best. He has been my MD specialist for the past 5 years. I know that under his care I have been able to maintain my eyesight We in Flagstaff are fortunate to have Dr. Kwong and his team come to us rather than all of us having to drive elsewhere for our care. Sometimes the waiting time is long but there are many patients to see and he and his team do a great job. I don't mind the wait. read more

I have been bringing my mother since 2014 and every single time we are here their always great. The lobby has a kids section with a tv as well as a tv for adults. Every waiting room they have inside has a tv as well. It's quiet and clean. The Dr's are great and so are the nurses. read more

I was referred to Dr. Rahul Reddy by my eye doctor for a problem with my retina. From the initial visit, surgery, and the follow up visits, I received excellent care. The staff are friendly and calm which was good because I was a bit nervous. Dr. Reddy was excellent at explaining my condition, the surgery and what I needed to do at the follow up visit. I like Dr Reddy, but if hes responsible for telling his staff to schedule way to many patients at one time then shame on him! My appt was for 12:45. I overheard the staff say there was 7 to 8 waiting for Dr Reddy. He was to be at another office at 1:30 to see more patients yet according to the staff they are telling everyone its a "2 to 3 hour wait" or its "3 to 4 Hour wait". NO. I told them that was unacceptable, refund my co pay. They asked if I wanted to reschedule. Are you serious? There are other retina specialists in the Phoenix area that Im sure I wont have to wait 2 to 4 hours to see. read more

I was referred here by my eye doctor and the main reason they are getting one star is because of the wait! If you have all the time in the world to wait and wait and wait! This is the place for you.. my appointment was 8:45am this morning and I showed up at 8:30a since I was a new patient and it is 11:05a and I'm still waiting on one last test. This is insane, they don't come and check in on you.. they just take you from one room to the next and leave you wondering if you were forgotten. The staff is in no hurry.. walk slow.. disappear when the Dr needs them. Just seems so disorganized. I've never had to wait so long at an eye doctor before. Only plus, the Dr was nice. read more

This is the second time my wife has come to this office. The first time she had to wait an hour and a half past her appointment time to be seen. This time the specialist that insisted on today's date and time, isn't even here. Their office manager took the day off. Meantime, my wife losses real wages and is still expected to pay for services. The specific doctor that my 38 year wife, who is losing her vision, is seeing came highly recommended. Unfortunately the past two experiences tells me their office management needs help. The review is NOT FOR THE DOCTOR but for the staff (the office on Glendale ave). My 6 year old son had an accident and required immediate surgery after which we were referred to Dr Reddy for further observation and second surgery. We really like the doctor, the office, however, is a different story. To compare the incompetence of the staff to the social security office would be a disservice to the SS office because the staff at ARC is ten times worse. NOTHING, not one single thing, since we started seeing Dr Reddy, has been done right. The scheduling is horrible. Half the time they don't even know what the doctor ordered so you have to argue with them. They blame everything on emergencies but it's a load of bs. We went there this morning, there were no emergencies and it still took us an hour and a half to see the doctor, 2 hours total. The wait is beyond ridiculous. Your time means absolutely nothing at this place. When we were scheduling our next appointment I asked the scheduling lady (who looked like she couldn't be bothered with anything) to schedule an appointment so that we didn't have to spend 45 minutes staring at walls and she informed me that that was how long it usually took to see a doctor. Are you serious?! So they know it's normal, they just don't care. Since I have plenty of time to observe the techs when I go there I can attest to the fact that about 90% of their time is spent congregating in halls, talking and laughing. We will be sending a letter to the office manager because if it was any other business it would be out of business by now. We are forced to go back to see the doctor but I wouldn't deal with service like that if I had a choice. To sum things up, the doctors are experienced and competent the entire staff needs to be fired. read more

If you have a full day to sit and wait then maybe you go there. There is know sense of urgency. They get you in quickly for a quick eye test and dilate your eyes and send you back out to the waiting room. The doctor finally sees you and they once again dilate your eyes because you sat for two hours. I will never go back there. read more

I came here with my mom for her 2:00 appointment. We were finally seen at 3:00, and didn't leave until 4:30. I really wasn't happy when the doctor gave my mom a shot in her un-numbed eye. He felt badly that he made a mistake, but my mom was in pain! read more

This doctors office has no clue how to be respectful of other people's time. It is not uncommon to have to sit and wait (in the waiting room of course with every other poor soul trapped there) for two plus hours for a simple retina checkup. When you ask the front desk for an estimated time they are rude, impatient, and woefully inaccurate. When you ask them why it's taking so long their answer was, and I quote, "Honestly, the doctor (Dr. Gordon) just takes a really long time." If at all possible avoid this office and Dr. Gordon. They have no respect for your time and you will get average medical care at best. read more

I took my mom in for a retina exam a couple of months ago. There was a tech that helped my mom before seeing the dr I believe her name was Justine. I actually found her to be very rational and short with me. I experienced to be rushed and she was not informative. She answered none of my questions. I didn't feel she cared about what was going on with my mom, and that she was trying to hurry me out of her room. The wait times can be improved as well as customer service. I refuse to return to the practice and I hope this will come to the attention of others in regards to Justine. read more

I had an eye emergency late in the day....my doctor referred me to Dr Bryan for immediate care. I was seen first thing the next morning to have laser treatment for the repair needed. The office staff, nurses and Dr are all amazing, the location is very convenient for me and the office is beautiful, comfortable, clean, very stylish...all plus in my book! My rating of A-OK is due to the time you have to spend WAITING....I get it it , there are times where there maybe emergencies (such as mine) and you have to squeeze people in to be seen but it should not take 1.5 to 2 hours for a 20-25 minute appt (15 with nursing staff and about 5-7 mins with dr) and by the looks of the other reviews....seems everyone is experience is the same. My follow up appointment was for 9:00 am...I arrived at 8:40, was taken back by 8:50 (I said yay, winner winner chicken dinner) the nurse that did all my drops, tests, pictures was very nice, professional, informative, etc...a 5 star for her, she was done with me at 9:05 am...I'm on a roll I'll be done quick I thought.......YEAH, ok back out to the lobby for me to wait to see the dr.......finally called back at 10:05 (60 min wait, ugh) in a room for another 20 minute wait...... finally dr comes in 10:25 or so....10 minutes later I'm done (Dr is great, very thorough and informative, was really happy with his care, nothing but praises for this man) - see you next time, pack a lunch! ARC come on, figure it out...you can cut down all of our waiting times.... and be the 5 stars we know you can be! read more

Dr Rahul Reddy has been my eye doctor for the last five years and is a wonderful surgeon and I would highly recommend him.

The doctors are fine but the wait time is awful. Allow 3+ hours out of your work day, most of which is literally spent waiting. The staff takes you from room to room to perform all the pretests and then you finally wait for the doctor. Wait, wait and more wait. read more

This review is for the Mesa office. If you don't mind waiting well over an hour to be seen, then this is the place for you. They lie about the anticipated wait time, they make you wait further once you are in an exam room. Expect any fifteen minute appointment to take two hours. This is not an isolated incident. Dr. Bakall is one of the best doctors out there! He has helped save my daughter not once, but twice. She has complex medical conditions that most 6 year old children don't have to deal with. We were refereed to Dr. Bakall by a specialist with Phoenix Children's Hospital. Dr. Bakall was amazing with my daughter, took the time to not only look into her condition thoroughly but he also treated myself and my child with compassion. At his urging we rushed my daughter to the ER and found out that had we waited, she might have lost part of her vision. We are still trying to figure out her medical situation and at a follow up visit he identified yet again, another very dangerous drug interaction she was experiencing that three other doctors, including an emergency physician, had dismissed. We are patients for Dr. Bakall for life. His staff are well trained and always kind to my daughter and myself. Yes, going to the eye doctor can be long (Usually 2-3 hour visit) and annoying. ( I have yet to find anyone that enjoys dilatation of the eyes, lights and all the imaging that goes along with eye care.) If you are looking for a turn and burn eye doctor I would not recommend Associated Retina Consultants. If you want doctors who truly care about your health and vision and will take the time to care correctly for you, then they are without a doubt the place to go. My experience with the Scottsdale office was one of complete frustration and humiliation. After booking a 4:00 appt time (not my choice, what they had open) I came to the office early, checked in, gave my insurance info and sat down for about a 40 minute wait past my appt time. I was finally ushered in, started the eye exam, had dilation drops inserted in my eyes when the office manager came running down the hallway shouting to the assistant that I didn't have insurance and could not be seen unless I wanted to proceed as a cash patient. I do in fact have medicare, but due to their sheer incompetence they did not call medicare to confirm my eligibility. I asked the front desk if we could recheck the insurance id numbers but they refused, stating that their staff wanted to get home (it was now 4:45) and that they would not help me. I asked if I could pay myself and be reimbursed by them when Medicare made payment but was told, 'absolutely not!' I am actually a patient of record and have had eye surgery performed by one of the doctors a few years ago and paid in full for all services rendered. Despite the fact treatment was started on me with eye dilation and that I complained of dangerous eye symptoms the staff informed me that I had to leave the office and that I could not proceed with the appt and see the doctor. I'm pretty sure it is considered unethical and unprofessional to refuse treatment for a patient once that treatment has been started. If in fact I hadn't had insurance (which I did) couldn't that have been verified while I cooled my heels in the waiting room for 40 minutes and before treatment was begun? I was embarassed by the front desk's handling of the situation with everyone looking at me like I was trying to pull off insurance fraud. No idea what the doctors are like but the staff is certainly angry and anxious to vent their anger on the patients. The next day when I tried to figure out what was going on, despite repeated promises to be called back, no one did. If you want to be treated really poorly and with a total lack of courtesy this is the office for you. read more

Had two vitectomies done, one in each eye, each time the dr's left some of the membrane in my eye and some scarrring, the second vitrectomy was worse, he removed the anchored membrane but created a prominent floater in my eye that's very mobile and flies all around in my eye, I had to go to California to get Dr. James Johnson to treat the floater with the "YAG" laser, no need for any incision with him just a laser that goes right through the eye and disintegrates the floater, no threat of retina detachment either, He has treated hundreds of people from around the world, also dr. reddy used me as a guinea pig and brought in a trainee to practice on me and didn't even ask me, I realized this when I woke up from the anesthesia, patients have rights and we have the right to not be used as a trainee tool unless we give our approval, they can be very sneaky as well as arrogant as if they're a god, so be careful, before any procedure tell the dr's that you do not want a trainee to practice on you, you have that right. read more
