I can't say enough good things about Damian and his team. I'd definitely work with them again and highly recommend them for anyone looking for a (as much as it's possible) hassle-free mortgage process. I first starting working with Damian about midway through my first attempt to buy a house, about a year and a half ago. My relationship with a different mortgage broker (at a different agency) had gone south, and I was looking for a new option on a pretty tight timeline. My realtor suggested I reach out to Damian, who she had worked with on prior deals. Probably an hour after I sent the introductory email, I was on the phone with Damian and talking through my options and how the process would work with Assurance. Within a couple days, I was preapproved and back on track. That particular deal eventually fell through due to (non-mortgage-related) issues uncovered during inspection. But after taking a break, I came back to Damian a couple months ago to close a deal on a condo in Old Fourth Ward. Damian was very responsive throughout the process and was able to answer all my dumb questions as a first-time buyer, walking through both the numbers and the procedural stuff until I was confident I understood. Once the underwriting got moving, his colleague Deborah became more involved and she was very responsive as well. I agree with what I think another reviewer said, which is that most first-time buyers probably underestimate the importance of finding a realtor-lender team that you're comfortable with and that will really be partners throughout the process. We are essentially retired, and the lack of income and the fact that it was a jumbo mortgage made it very difficult to get the loan.
