Amazing for PPO insurance. Not so much for HMO. I was in the market for a new dentist and called around to see if I could make sure a dental office was right for me. I'm looking for appts past 3pm, accepts my HMO, and you know, fair. After finding out that offices don't tell you much over the phone, I bit the bullet and transferred my insurance to Asta. Dr. Ben told me I needed to replace my 2 crowns, get a filling, and a deep cleaning. My HMO covered all of these things. For the filling, there was a charge for a desensitizer, that of course wasn't covered. For the deep cleaning, they added medicated irrigation (again, not covered). But what made up my mind was the charge on the crowns. Interestingly, they had a $496 fee on the same day delivery of each crown. It was explained to me it's because they make them in house. I asked if there was an option to forego the same day delivery and maybe get a temp crown while waiting the 2 weeks for the actual (similar to how a traditional dental office works) and I was told that there's no alternative and I should just get my cleanings done with them then call my insurance and switch to a dentist who offers that crown service afterwards. I work in health insurance (mainly medical, dental, and vision) and uh, yeah .. unfortunately this is typical. I'll have PPO insurance as well in Feb so I think I'll get my services done then but I'm certain it will be with another office. There's something that just doesn't sit right with me on how I was told to change offices. I don't go where I'm not wanted. Not fully worth just a one star. After my first visit the office reached back out to address the problems I had which I was very appreciative of. I finally went back again for a cleaning and to go over the pay discrepancies regarding my insurance. I had my cleaning done by Carlos this time and he did a really great job, super thorough and took into consideration of my teeth sensitivity. After, the staff came to help clarify the confusion I had regarding how I was being charged for my upcoming fillings. They were able to clarify my confusion and explain the differences between my insurance and what was covered and not. The communication this time was a lot better and I was reminded to always voice my concerns so that they can address it in a timely manner. Dr. Udas came and checked my teeth and helped with my teeth sensitivity. I'm glad I gave the office another chance and they really did take into consideration of what happened at my last office visit. I will be continuing to come to this practice as they have shown that they truly do care for their patients! It was just a lot of lack of communication the first time. He apologized on behalf of the inconvenience and made sure that my appointment was being honored for the time I originally scheduled it for. Moved down to Torrance last year and have been on the look out for a dentist. I tried calling a few months ago but no one answered. I gave it another go last month or so and was able to make an appointment. It did take a little while to be seen as there was no receptionist at the time. I wasn't really counting the time but they did apologize for the wait and took me in by my scheduled appointment time. I forgot the name of the girl who took care of me but she was very sweet and answered any questions I had. I believe the dentist's name was Ben? He saw me pretty quick before they did the X-rays. He later confirmed any findings he previously told me with the X-rays and any additional findings. Surprisingly, my teeth cleaning wasn't as painful as I'm used to so that was nice . Before proceeding to any further work that needed to be done they gave me an estimate which I thought was nice so I knew before continuing. Never been to a dentist with a TV on the ceiling so that was a first! Also, the complementary coffee/water was a nice touch. Overall, Ive enjoyed my experience so far at Asta Dental and am hoping I'll continue enjoying my experience especially since it's down the street! My husband and I wanted to find a dental clinic that is closer to us and we came across Asta. We went in separately for our first checkup and we both had a great experience there! The environment is modern and clean, staffs were also really polite and friendly. For me, I was initially scheduled for a first-visit examination that covered X-rays and a consultation with the doctor to discuss discomforts and concerns I have. Dr. Ben was very knowledgeable and friendly, gave me good insight and recommendations on how to improve my abrasions from grinding and clenching in my sleep. The hygienist was also able to get my teeth cleaned right after so I didn't need to schedule for another appointment! I was pleasantly surprised by how detailed yet gentle and efficient he was with the process ;) There was no added charge or any additional paperwork to sign after the service (the only form I completed was pre-examination and for consent that can be filled out online/via mobile) which was nice. Finding Dr Ben was a complete Godsend. Husband had a serious jaw infection and needed immediate attention and treatment. Dr Ben and his staff made a difficult, frightening, unpleasant time so much easier to bear. They are very caring and know what they are doing. After teeth extractions and bone grafting... two bridges and a deep cleaning.. things are definitely looking up for hubby!
