The Astanga Yoga Centre is probably the ultimate Auckland yoga centre. I think there are a few elements which come in to play when establishing a place as a kind of yoga centre.
1. Needs to have very nice polished wooden floors. Preferably with the planks going in parallel with the street outside so as to act as a subtle reminder that the world is all one thing.
2. At least one teacher named "Andre".
3. Metal cups and a little water tap thing. Metal cups should look bronze. They should taste kind of metallic too. But I think that's okay because it's so damn nice to hold a metal cup.
4. You should definitely have to walk up some stairs to get into the yoga studio.
5. There should definitely definitely definitely be a bunch of old, yellowing photographs on the walls from the initial days of the yoga studio. And in those photos there should definitely definitely definitely definitely be some old ass swami type dude with a beard or a mustache and he should be extraordinarily flexible. read more
